What is skin fasting? 🤔
Do you sometimes find yourself busy with other things going on? Work, social life, even quarantine depression when you just don’t feel like going through your skincare routine? Don’t worry about it if so!
There is a trend going on called skin fasting, the idea is this: Minimizing your skin-care routine, or even forgoing it altogether, for a set amount of time will allow your skin to reset.
What are the possible benefits of skin fasting? 🤔
A skin fast allows the skin to return to its natural homeostasis," explains Deanne Robinson, a board-certified dermatologist based in Westport, Connecticut.
The theory is that when we use skin-care products, we are essentially coaching our skin on what to do, and thereby throwing off its natural, self-regulating cycle.
For example, applying moisturizer or facial oil could signal to our skin cells that it need not produce as much natural sebum because we've got it covered. Or, in using exfoliants like retinol, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), we're chemically inducing increased skin cell turnover, aka speeding up our skin's natural renewal rate.
By temporarily stripping away the use of products via a fast, the thought is that "when we take away the support system to our skin, it allows it to get back to what it naturally does, In other words, by eliminating all skin-care products, you are allowing your skin to 'reset,' and, in turn, improving the way your skin functions,
How? 🤔
After searching Google for a while you will find there are MANY ways to do a skin fast. You can go a week or so using ZERO products, not even soap 🧼 😳 or you can just omit certain products like retinol for a bit.
Experts tend to all disagree like they do on all issues to do with skincare 😂 Everyone’s skin is different and what works for one person may not work for another. One thing they do agree on is that limiting the use of some products from time to time can be beneficial. the overuse of active ingredients can cause dryness and/or general irritation over time. So you don’t have to get rid of everything but toning down your routine every now and then could be helpful. Especially if you have super sensitive skin. However you choose to interpret this it sounds to me like you can create your own version of skin fasting. Does this sound like something that you would try? I think I tend to do this throughout the year in a bunch of different ways!! ❤️❤️

JoeyGashI actually do this, and it’s like a reset for my skin. I do it like one weekend a month or on nights we’re all I wore that was sunscreen. I use a mush easy, less product filled cleansing routine and a light sleep mask! I personally recommend if you have normal/combo skin!

Sabbatical Beauty is an indie brand with some amazing products. I have tried many of there products because they are all natural, cruelty free, and most importantly very soothing on my skin. I suffer from extreme redness, and get very irritated to almost anything, even when I go in the shower I get irritated! These products have helped me with my redness tremendously, not only that, but they are so smooth on my skin and have never made me break out, or worse have a bad irritation The goat milk & rice foaming cleanser is very light on the skin, and smells very fresh and clean. I have combo skin that is super sensitive and acne-prone! Happy Pink Wednesday🎀 💕If you haven’t hopped on the Krave train I highly recommend it. Their cleanser and sunscreen are literally amazing for sensitive and acne-prone skin. I now want to try their moisturizer!! This sunscreen isn’t sticky at all and does not leave a white cast. It also has Vitamin C in it and is labeled as an antioxidant fluid. It feels smooth once applied and applied well over make-up too! Yay Beet Shield! 💕Leah Skin’s Rose + Glow oil is a great way to hydrate while also giving your skin some additional perks. This works wonders for me when it comes to acne PIH. I can’t say enough about this and the ingredient list is so clean. 💕Glossier Hand Cream- I like this but I’m not in love with it because I use the Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm and as that is holy grail status, it’s hard when other items aren’t at that level. I do like it and the smell isn’t bad if you’re looking for some quick hydration that sinks in fast. Just not the most amazing I’ve ever tried. 💕What are you reaching for today? Unique moisturizer for sensitive skin
Save Skincare is a new brand to me, and I got this moisturizer a few weeks ago because they were running a promotion where if you just paid shipping, you by it to try it free! I was looking for a good basic moisturizer that would mix well with oils and not break me out, and so far this has played well with my skin and other products. As the name states, this is a very light consistency—not quite a gel, but a very light lotion. It sinks into my skin quickly and leaves a velvety finish. This is marketed especially toward sensitive skin, and while mine isn’t particularly sensitive, I think it would be good for those who are—it doesn’t have any fragrance, essential oils, parabens, mineral oil, sulfates, SLS, alcohol, or colorants. It DOES have a unique ingredient—bamboo bioferment—which is a more natural alternative to silicone. I love the way silicones feel, but they’ve broken me out in the past, so if you’re in the same boat then I suggest trying this product. Overall, I would suggest this brand and product to anyone looking for a moisturizer for sensitive skin, especially if you’re looking for clean skincare. At $27 for 1oz, I think you get what you pay for. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
