Ash me out
Lauryn.Renee.Hairstyles
Have you really wanted to be a nice ash brown but it seems impossible to get to this color? Hereâs why:
Ash brown usually contains blues and purples to tone down yellow and orange pigments. The only way you can really get these tones to work and get extremely ashy is if you have a certain level of blonde, either prelightened or natural.
There are 10 levels of hair color:
⢠1- Black
⢠2-Darkest brown (the eye doesnât notice the difference between level 2 and level 1, so hairstylists just mix a level 1 and 3 together)
â˘3-Dark brown
â˘4- Medium Brown
â˘5-Light Brown
â˘6-Lightest brown
â˘7-Darkest Blonde
â˘8-Medium Blonde
â˘9-Light Blonde
â˘10- Lightest Blonde/Platinum
There are also underlying pigments ghat each level of color brings, so if you lighten your hair and wonder why you got red or orange, this is why. As well as 10 levels of color, the 10 undertones that come with them are:
â˘Black- has blue tones ALWAYS
â˘Darkest brown- Blue and Violet tones
â˘Dark Brown-Violet
â˘Medium brown-Red and Violet
â˘Light brown- Red and Orange
â˘Lightest brown- Orange and Red
â˘Darkest blonde-Orange
â˘Medium blonde- Yellow and Orange
â˘Light Blonde- Yellow
â˘Lightest blonde- Pale yellow
So now, knowing what colors turn certain tones when you lighten them to different levels, to get an ash brown you should probably be a level 8 and up! Levels with yellow tend to accept both blue and violet pigments and they turn to a beautiful âmushroom brownâ color! Itâs not easy to achieve but at least now you know the process in which us hairstylists should be working through with your haircolors(:
This client was just a simple toner over her platinum blonde hair because she wanted something to lighten up by the summer so she could lighten again with less damage!

đBlended Balayageâď¸
You know, not all balayages need to be low, I freehand painted this one up to her scalp! It gives her such a beautifully blended look. I kept lots of dark pieces in so when it grows out, itâd look natural! This client only comes in twice a year and she always tells me âall my friends this I get my hair done monthly because it grows out so beautifully and blendedâ. Thatâs a HUGE thing. Nowadays people donât want to spend hundreds of dollars every month to take care of their hair, so this is a more affordable way to add some dimension and not break the bank! (Even though I would love to see you more than twice a year, please get regular haircuts so we can grow your hair out)
I used a nice violet tone in her hair to give it extra light/icy pieces throughout! Toner doesnât last forever, but this one is my go to!!

đťSunflower hair?đť
Will sunflower hair be the next fall trend?!
This gorgeous color was achieved with a lot of lightening, but we got exactly where we wanted!
To achieve this color it took a few steps, we had to pre lighten her hair. Prelightening is used for vivid colors. You ever wondered why you put splat or manic panic on your dark hair and nothing happened? Your hair wasnt light enough for the color to deposit.
After we prelightened the ends and the midstrand I went ahead and added a beautiful mahogany color to her roots. This was a Demi-permanent haircolor which means it will fade as your hair grows out which is extremely useful for a haircolor thatâs darker than your own! Itâs really easy to remove over time.
I then added in the fantasy colors (yellow and orange) to the midstrand and ends! I mixed a few colors together to achieve the perfect shades of yellow and orange because at the time I had highlighted yellow and neon orangeđ hairstylists work with what they can sometimesđ these fantasy colors are semi-permanent so I had to blow dry the hair beforehand to make sure the color deposited, as well as leaving it on for 40 minutes to get the color to its maximum strength.
You know what they donât tell you before you get a fun vivid color like this? You have to wash with COLD waterđ like actually freezing water! I suggest to clients that they should wash their hair in the sink and then take a warm shower after because no one wants to take a frozen shower!

blonde upkeep on Asian hair â¨
I went from virgin black hair at the roots to a light ashy blonde in one session! For most this might be extremely damaging. Luckily, I have an amazing stylist that was able to lift my hair without causing any major damage. That being said here are the products Iâve been loving since going blonde:
amika: - Bust Your Brass Cool Blonde Shampoo
If you have blonde hair it is a MUST to use purple shampoo! It tones down any brass tones. I love this one by Amika and use just a little dime size amount mixed with my every day shampoo.
OLAPLEX - No. 3 Hair Perfector
This is an amazing product for smoothing hair follicles while strengthening too. I love this product! However, I feel that itâs pretty spendy for the amount you get in one bottle.
OLAPLEX - No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
OLAPLEX - No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
Love this shampoo and conditioner duo. I have naturally straight and frizzy hair, but this duo has helped smooth my hair entirely and help maintain the color.
OLAPLEX - No. 6 Bond Smoother Reparative Styling Creme
The smell of this product is to die for 𤊠I use this after I shower and towel dry. A little bit goes a long way with this!
BEACHWAVER Co. - Pro Rotating Curling Iron
Love the beach waver, but dislike the price. You can achieve the same style of waves with a regular curler. However, I can style all of my hair in less than 15 min with this. Itâs all about convenience in my opinion.

What you should know to fight hair tangles
I guess that probably no one hasn't experienced struggling with hair tangles, especially girls with long hair. Actually, a deep-rooted reason for hair knots is the lack of moisture in the hair.
We pay much attention to the condition of our skin everyday, but we often ignore that hair also loses moisture easily. Itâs moisture loss that leads to dry, frizzy and tangled hair. So hair moisturizing is very important to get rid of tangles.
Want to detangle your hair without damaging it? First and foremost, nourish and hydrate your hair. By what? By good shampoo and conditioner. Iâm a big fan of Olaplex OLAPLEX - No. 4 Bond Maintenance ShampooOLAPLEX - No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner, its core ingredient Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate can identify and repair disulfide bond, which plays an important role in the structure and stability of hair keratin. And keratin is the key to make your hair light, anti-detangle, bringing silky shine and texture. Maybe you can give this brand a shot.
Then, here are what require your attention in daily hair care:
Apply conditioner before washing it
If your hair easily get tangled before washing, apply hair conditioner on the ends and gently comb with your fingers for 3 minutes, to make hair smooth and soft, then follow your usual routine of shampooing and conditioner. This can reduce pulling your hair to detangle and actually achieve better cleaning effect.
Don't rub your hair in a towel
In order to let the hair dry more quickly, many girls wrap their hair with dry towel and rub vigorously. STOP! Rubbing hair is one of the reasons that causes a hair tangles and even damages your hair quality. Youâd better gently cover and let the dry towel âabsorbâ the moisture on your hair.
Make good use of hair oil
Some girls may be not patient enough to detangle hair and pull, comb their hair by force. As you pull your hair, your scalp gets pulled too, and the hair roots will become looser and looser, which automatically leads to hair loss.
If you hair get tangled in ordinary times, you can apply a small amount of hair oil to the knotted part and gently rub the tangles to help smooth the hair. If you really fail to detangle, use scissors to cut off it and just say goodbye.
Hair sunscreen
Exposed to the sun for too long, the moisture in the hair and protein will lose fast andeasily, then hair can become inelastic, tangle and break easily.

How to Fix Hair Static âď¸
I have thin, straight hair so when winter comes and I need my little hat, my hair goes wild! But why?
âď¸ What is hair static? âď¸
Hair static is when your hair gains an electric charge. This can happen from friction and a change in humidity. This makes the hair pieces separate from each other and of course adds challenges for styling. Generally this happens more in the winter due to the low humidity.
Here are some tips to prevent this!
â¨Use a hair oil
My favorite one is my Gisou. It is lightweight and made with honey so it is very hydrating and helps me with flyaways and general hair frizz even when it is summertime. This doesnât leave hair heavy or sticky and I feel like this always makes my hair look and feel better. Not to mention it smells amazing! This comes in a mini and full size and is now available at Sephora. Also itâs so luxurious and the glass packaging is gorgeous. This has three sizes now, the mini is $25 and 0.7 oz so thatâs probably a good place to start but I purchased the 1.7 oz for $46 and LOVE it. I will be purchasing the full size too.
â¨You can buy anti-frizz sheets
This is a new discovery for me and I havenât tried them yet but rather than dryer sheets which are not meant for your hair, these sheets have things like coconut oil in them and are meant to be used on flyaways and the hair line to help with static. These can be found on Amazon!
â¨Use hydrating hair products
This could be your shampoo, conditioner and even the occasional hair mask but these will also help a lot with static. Youâre going to want to avoid any drying products as well. I personally love Olaplex products because they repair hair from the inside out and smell so good đ This is 8.5 oz and $28. They also have a cute holiday set out for $60 which has the shampoo, conditioner, hair mask and bond smoother. Also, when styling your hair, make sure to use a heat-protector which will lock in the moisture!

Easy Waves, Without the Frizz!
#CheriePartner My thick yet fine hair naturally straddles the 2A/2B line, depending on a variety of factors: humidity level, days since last shampoo, products used, etc. But I love using the amika: - High Tide Deep Waver to make defined waves that have a bit of a retro feel, without the frizz from letting my hair naturally wave via air drying! I typically only heat-style on special occasions or when extending time between washes- hereâs my no-wash day wave routine!
1. Separate: I separate my hair into three sections with a wide-tooth comb: crown, middle, nape. Crown is pulled into a small ponytail, then middle joins it using a clip.
2. Protect: Apply *amika: - The Wizard Detangling Primer liberally to the current layer- I run my fingers through the layer to help it soak in, letting hair dry fully.
3. Style:Starting at the roots, I take a section of hair from the current layer and clamp it between the paddles of the styler. I hold for a full 5 seconds before releasing it, moving down that section of hair vertically. Repeat throughout the current layer, moving along vertically.
4. Re-Section: Iâm kind of Type A about things so I tie up the current layer of separated hair before letting down the next layer.
Repeat Steps 2-4 Until All Hair Has Been Waved
5. Focused Protection: Before my hair fully cools, I rub a pump of *amika: - Blockade Heat Protectant Serum between the tips of my fingers and focus on moisturizing/protecting the ends of my hair. Iâve noticed this helps my hair look more polished and extend the life of the hairstyle as far as frizz is concerned!
6. Smooth: Once my hair has cooled and the serum has soaked in, I finish everything off with a few sprays of amika: - Silken Up Dry Conditioner and a thorough fluffing with my hands! I love how shiny and soft my hair still is once itâs been waved, after utilizing so many protective products đ

đłWhy box dye is TERRIBLE for your hair
As some of you may know by now, I am a licensed cosmetologist. I see TONS of clients everyday and a large amount of my new clients are color corrections.
Whatâs a color correction? Wells color correction is usually a pricey service that a hairstylist does once your hair is compromised from box dye...or maybe you gave yourself a hOMBRĂ. Yeah I called you outđ
This service is so pricey because it can take HOURS to fix this situation. This haircolor, took FIVE hours. She had three layers of red box dye in her hair and about two inches of regrowth that was lighter than the red. Trust me I wanted to cry when I saw it. This is every hairstylists worst nightmare. A client wanting to be blonde but their red. Lol not gonna happen.
As you can see, thereâs still some red, thatâs where she really overlapped her box dyes. Box dyes are progressive dyes that really buildup on the hair. They have metallic salts that can build up and reeeaally dry out the hair....not fun. If I do a color correction over boxed hair I will seriously FORCE clients to get Olaplex added to the color and lightener. Itâs soo damaged just in general and itâll be worse after a huge chemical service like this one!
Use these to prevent any further damage

How to Care for Long, Thin and Bleached Hair âď¸
I have very long and thin bleached hair so it gets very dry easily and also can get extra oily at times with regular washing. I wash it in the morning, brush it through and let it air dry after adding in some products below!
1. Add Hydration
â¨Bleach dries out hair like no other so adding hydration back into your hair is going to be important. I use a variety of products for this. One thing I like is to use really nourishing shower products like the Olaplex conditioner. These products are gorgeous and make my hair feel better and softer. Their unique technology repairs hair from within.
â¨Another product I love is the Gisou hair oil which is good for hydration but also styling if youâre just leaving your hair down for the day. It smells amazing and the honey is great for hair. It tames flyaways, somehow just makes hair look better and hydrated.
â¨Hair masks can also be very useful and Olaplex has one too. I also like the Amika hair masks for extra hydration and try to use these at least once a week to repair and hydrate.
2. Detangle
â¨One product I love to use right after washing is the leave in conditioner spray by Itâs a 10! This has so many uses, hence the name, but I love the smell, nourishing and detangling properties of this the most. The detangler aspect is also useful so Iâm not causing unnecessary damage when brushing if I have knots.
3. Take a Hair Supplement
â¨After starting my first, Iâve found that my hair definitely grows faster and feels better than before! I use Hush & Hush supplements. They have them for hair, daily vitamins and one that is super amazing for nighttime if youâre struggling with relaxing and sleeping. You can use my name as a code to save money too if youâd like (âchelseaâ). This is important because youâre giving your body what it needs and more to care for your hair health and also your body.
4. Use Products with Extra Heat Protection
â¨I personally like Amikaâs The Wizard because it smells amazing and does the job. Generally, temperatures over 450 F wonât break or damage hair but I avoid lots of heat and styling just because my hair is already damaged and dry, but when I do I always use products with extra protection. Regular hair cuts help too to prevent additional breakage at the bottom!

Snip snip âď¸
This is one of my absolute favorite haircuts! Itâs a longer version of an A-Line bob! She was due for a new-doo so we decided to spice things up with this look!!
Love her color? I balayaged it! You can balayage to create a highlighted effect and itâs MUCH faster than foils. I typically spend HOURS ON END doing foils and this balayage was fast and simpleđ
This color has taken more than one process to get her this light and ALOT of OLAPLEX - No. 0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment Kit This stuff is LIQUID GOLD if I do say so myself. It saves the hair and repairs damage during chemical services by restoring the disulfide bonds in the hair. This leaves you with a sleek, shiny finish and the cuticle is sealed and smooth.
ALWAYS remember when blow drying you need to use your concentrator attachment. Why? You might ask, when blow drying wet hair, the cuticle of your hair strand is open, you want to smooth it down and not blow up the cuticle (causing TONS of damage and breakage). By using your concentrator and blow drying from root to ends, this will save your hair! It really helps to use a boar bristle brush while drying the achieve the smoothest hair possible so maybe you wonât have to flat iron or curl afterwards!

Refresher Time
The Photos say it all
It was time for a refresh on this grown out balayage.
Balayage means to freehand paint, so if you tell your hairstylist you want a balayage, they may ask you questions on how you want it! Here my client wanted some brighter money pieces in the front to frame her face, but she didnât want everything at the scalp because it tends to grow out in a harsh line! Balayage helps get rid of the harsh regrowth lines which helps your hair color last MUCH longer! 6months to a year longer!
Products used:
Kevin Murphy Blonde.Angel purple shampoo and condish to brighten and tone her blonde and add shine! These products smell like fruit loops! The natural extracts such as bergamot and Lavender
Amikaâs The Wizard- I swear this product smells so good and the packaging is adorable, it practically sells itself! This is a detangling primer thatâs oil based so itâs super hydrating as you comb out those tangles!
OYAâs Suede- This is a weightless styling cream that adds shine and softness. Itâs relaxing spa water scent really makes you enjoy blow dry time.
I then styled my client with some bouncy beach waves with a Babyliss Curling iron size 1 Âź, sprayed with some Kevin Murphy Bedroom.Hair texture spray and combed out for the finished look!
