A Gentle AM Skincare Routine for Sensitive Skin
💁🏻♀️Four mild skincare products that soothe my sensitive skin 👉🏻Beginning in middle school, my skin produced constant breakouts that lasted well through my first two years of college---so, yes, I endured about seven years of incurable acne, and tried just about every product and prescription under the sun to no avail. 👉🏻Because of my acne, I became extremely wary of the products I put on my skin for fear that any foreign product would worsen my breakouts. 👉🏻But now that I’ve grown up and my skin has calmed down, I feel blessed (I never thought I’d say that) to have struggled with my skin for two reasons: a) it makes me appreciate clear, healthy skin SO MUCH MORE than I would if I hadn’t suffered through so many years of skin issues, and b) it taught me to take care of my skin properly and be conscious of the products I put onto it. 💁🏻♀️My Current Skincare Routine 👉🏻When it comes to caring for my skin, I generally take a “natural and simple is better” approach, and I think my current morning skincare routine reflects that. I try to avoid products with too many ingredients that may upset my skin or cause me to breakout. 👉🏻I use four products with minimal ingredients to clean, moisturize, protect, and refresh my skin when I wake up in the morning. I’ve stuck to this routine for about a year---the only new product is the facewash, which I’ve been using for only about three months. 💁🏻♀️Here’s a breakdown of each step I take in the morning: 👇🏻 Step 1: Cleanse I start by cleansing my face with an essential-oil packed face wash from Trader Joe’s, which is actually a grocery store! I stumbled upon this product on accident and I absolutely LOVE it. The formula is very concentrated, so I only use about a dime-size amount to cleanse my whole face---it’s pretty strong, and I’ve found that if I use too much, it dries out my face. So when it comes to this product, a little goes a long way! Then, I pat my face dry with a clean towel. *Please note that this face wash is made primarily of essential oils, so it might irritate some people’s skin. Before you wash your entire face with this product, do a patch test to ensure it doesn’t create an adverse reaction on your skin. Here is the list of ingredients: 👇🏻 Step 2: Moisturize After I wash my face, I apply almond oil all over my face and neck. I’ve found that almond oil evens out my skin tone and nourishes any dry patches I may have---it works wonders as a makeup primer too! I bought this almond oil on Amazon, and this bottle has lasted me a year. I love this product because it’s affordable, and the almond oil is cold-pressed (extracted without heat), which means that it retains more of its nutrients. More nutrients=more skin benefits! I let the oil absorb into my skin a bit before I proceed to the next step. 👇🏻 Step 3: Protect After I moisturize, I apply sunscreen, which is arguably one of the most important steps in any morning skincare routine! The sunscreen I use is by the brand All Good, and its active ingredient is zinc oxide. I adore this sunscreen because it doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin, which is typical of most mineral sunscreens. Once my sunscreen is dry, I apply my makeup (if I’m going to wear any that day). If I’m not wearing makeup, I’ll proceed directly to step 4 of my skincare routine. 👇🏻 Step 4: Refresh The last step in my morning skincare routine is my favorite! Ever since I discovered this Heritage Store Rosewater and Glycerin spray, I can’t stop using it. Once my sunscreen is dry, I spray the Rosewater and Glycerin spray all over my face (about 3 pumps). It’s the cherry on top of my skincare routine--- it really wakes my skin up and gives it a healthy glow. I don’t only use it in the morning either---sometimes I spray it on my face and hair throughout the day to refresh my skin and give it a bit of a glow. It makes me smell like roses too! After years of taking care of my skin, my acne has finally cleared up---but I still struggle with mini breakouts and red spots, so that’s why I still stick to a sensitive-skin-friendly routine! *The last pic is what my natural skin looks like after this routine.

I found this gem in T.J.Maxx. I love facial sprays and this one gives my skin a glow and has a scent of roseHERITAGE STORE - Rosewater & Glycerin Atomizer
Hello, so I been struggling with my skin for years. I’m 29 now & it hasn’t seemed to get any better. I use to think the tiniest pimples or marks were a problem but my skin kept getting worse. These pix are a week apart & the top is today. Last October my skin hit a low & I decided to cut dairy. It helped, then my skin got bad again & I cut out meat. It helped for a little again. I tried so much products. I was on Zo skincare & helped but it’s too expensive to continue so I’m in the process of devolving my own affordable skin routine. A month ago I started the pill (birth control) & right before that my skin was going crazy, I think because I was trying new products. I think my skin is purging from products and the pill? I’ll post my now routine any suggestions will help but I think I’m on the right path finally 🤞🏼 The app has helped me a lot. PanOxyl - Acne Foaming Wash Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Maximum Strength for wash OLE HENRIKSEN - Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner I use this toner HERITAGE STORE - Rosewater & Glycerin Atomizerthen spray this & I’m about to start sugergoop everyday spf 50 lotion. At night use DERMA•E - Vitamin C Intense Night Cream & I’m slowly using DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel
My cleansers So for me, I have four cleansers. The Laroche Posay 3 step acne kit cleanser with 2% salicylic acids and .05% micro-exfoliating LHA, which works well for acne and acne scars, the CeraVe Hydrating cleanser with hyaluronic acid, the Trader Joe’s face wash with tea tree oil, and the Clinique liquid facial soap.I have collected these over about three years, so no need to get 4 cleansers at the store right away. When do I use them? For my “cleansing” schedule, I definitely don’t use all of them at once. I use them depending on my skin’s needs. I have combo skin, so sometimes my skin is somewhat oily around my t-zone, and sometimes my whole face is dry. Sometimes when I have been picking at my acne, I like to use the Laroche Posay cleanser, because it helps with acne scabs/scars and acne. Or when my face just has a lot of acne, but I haven’t picked in a little while, I use the Trader Joe’s cleanser because tea tree oil helps with acne. When my face is dry I would use the hydrating cleanser, and when my skin is normal and I just want to get the dirt out, I would use the Clinique one, because it’s gentle and just gets all the dirt out. hey everyone 🥰 What are your thoughts on this face wash? Did it work for your skin? In my previous post I mentioned that I use Differin products to help clear my skin! Differin works so well and is my safety but it has been making skin very dry lately because of the benzoyl peroxide. So, for the past week I’ve been washing my face with water only and just moisturizing to prep for a new product. I’ve been wanting to try this face wash for so long so I’m trying it starting today! I’m sure my skin will be fine! But I will post and update in 1-2 weeks to see if my skin is okay! :) ✨✨
Rate and review my routine.
For a bit of context, I have dry diabetic skin. My skin concerns include acne and acne post scars, fungal acne, redness, dark circles and severe dryness. I am also 30 years old and have previously been on Accutane in my teens. I typically do not use every product shown everyday as my skin concerns vary very broadly. The ones I do use on a regular basis, include Cerve Hydrating Cleanser, Aveeno Positively Mineral Sensitive Skin Suncreen SPF 50 and Cerave AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion. Every other will marked with * and given days when I do use. AM Routine: I typically keep my routine in the morning very simple and quick. I first wash my face with Cerve Hydrating Cleanser, then use The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGEC*, The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA*, then finally using a mixed solution of Aveeno Postivitely Mineral Sunscreen and Cerve AM Facial Lotion. *I am currently using these products two to three times a week. For night, I am a bit more extensive. I first double cleanse with Gariner Micellar Cleansing Water** then proceed with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Typically after I do some sort of treatment depending on my skin. These include The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution*, Dermal Aloe Based Face Mask*, The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%*, Neutrogena Rapid Spot Treatment*. After any treatment, I follow up with Cerave PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion then with Cerave Diabetics' Dry Skin Relief. ** Only used when wearing makeup. * BHA/AHA Peeling Solution is used once every two weeks. *Dermal Face Mask used once a week. *Only used when breakouts occur. *Spot treatment used when breakout occurs.

P.M. Routine ✨
After seeing a dermatologist, I have started using clindamycin gel in the AM and tretinoin cream in the PM for my persistent acne. I also have dry, sensitive skin so I am taking things slow. For two weeks I’ll be using the tretinoin cream every three days, then every other day for two more weeks, and then I will start using it every night as prescribed. Here is my P.M. routine! GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Makeup Remover This is the first component of double cleansing. I use this to remove my sunscreen. I gently wipe the product on using a fabric/reusable “cotton” pad. CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser This completes my double cleansing! It’s a gentle, creamy cleanser perfect for dry & sensitive skin. My derm highly recommended CeraVe products! I will keep repurchasing this product because I love it so much. PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner This is a new addition to my routine, and I am already in love with it! I apply it using a reusable fabric pad. It leaves my skin feeling soft and less irritated. It’s a milky texture. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum This is also a new addition to my routine. I like it, but I do not love it. I will be trying the Krave Great Barrier Relief serum when I’m out of this. CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream I absolutely love this stuff. It’s thick and perfect for dry, sensitive skin at the end of the day. It moisturizes and protects my skin. OBAGI - Tretinoin 0.025% Cream This was prescribed by my dermatologist. I apply it after my night cream to help provide a barrier to decrease sensitivity. I use a pea-size amount and dot it onto my cheeks, chin, nose, and forehead before blending it in.

two empties: one hated, one beloved
Today I’ll be featuring two products from Drunk Elephant, Protini and Slaai. One of these didn’t work for me, and one did! I don’t personally like this brand, since they bully creators and customers on Instagram and refuse to take ownership that some products don’t work for everyone. But tons of people like them, so I thought I would review these two minis I used, both gifted by a friend. I have combo skin type, with acne prone, sensitive skin. I also have rosacea, so my skin is red much of the time. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser Honest to god, I hated this cleanser. I used it as a first cleanse in my pm routine to remove makeup (some waterproof), and spf (water/sweat resistant). Claims: “innovative cleansing balm that melts all traces of dirt, makeup, sunscreen, and even water-resistant formulas” Key ingredients: fruit blend of blueberry, kiwi, strawberry (moisturize), “African” oil blend of Marula, baobab, kalahari (protect and nurture) Not only did this not remove all my makeup, but it stung my eyes so badly and blurred my vision. My waterproof eyeliner and mascara was streaking all down my face, and I couldn’t remove it completely with Slaai without tugging or pulling my skin, which I was not about to do. It emulsified fairly well, but failed to do its job. The butter-like consistency could only be warmed up so much in my hand, because it formed clumps and wouldn’t break apart. After cleansing, it left a gross film behind on my skin like oil, and I didn’t not like how it felt. I cannot recommend this to y’all 💀 and if I could give it 0/5 stars I totally would! $34 for something not good haha! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream Ahh, a wonderful moisturizer. I use this in both my AM and PM routine, but I like it most in the AM. Claims: “a protein moisturizer that combines signal peptides, growth factors, amino acids, and Pygmy water lily to improve the look of skins tone, texture, and firmness” Key Ingredients: peptide complex (binds moisture to skin, plumps, firms), pigmy water lily (antioxidants, moisturizer, soothing), soybean folic acid (helps with elasticity, good for after sun) Overall, this is one of my top moisturizers. The price is ehh ($68) and I don’t want to spend it ever, so I don’t see myself repurchasing my full size when I empty it — it’s just not worth nearly $70. The texture is so pretty, lightweight but packs a punch of hydration and moisture retention. My skin always looks great when I use this — it’s a tall drink of water for my skin for sure. It somehow plumps my skin AND helps with my loss of elasticity. Gentle on my skin, and definitely enough hydration for my combo skin type. 4/5 (-1 for price). I had no side effects using this product! #CherieCreator

Tips for Retinoid-Induced Dryness! 💦
Disclaimer: Two studies have shown that this Purito sunscreen only contains 19 SPF. They have stopped selling them and are offering refunds to those that have bought the product in the past 6 months. I no longer use or recommend this product. Check out Krave - The Beet Shield if you are looking for an alternative! I recently began using prescribed Clindamycin gel and Tretinoin cream for my acne. I already had dry, sensitive skin so adding these products has amped up those issues. So how am I dealing with my dry, irritated skin? Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant This ointment is designed for dry, cracked, or irritated skin. It’s clinically proven to restore smooth, healthy skin. It contains petrolatum, which acts as a skin protectant. Other ingredients include: mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol. I mainly use this ointment on my lips, but I occasionally use it under my eyes and inside my nose if they are extra dry. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration This cream aims to help hydrated, parched skin, as well as temporarily relieve minor irritation and itching due to eczema and other conditions. It is safe for sensitive skin, and does not contain parabens, harsh chemicals, or colorants. Its star ingredients include: colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, ceramides, and squalane. Unfortunately it does contain eucalyptus oil, but the small amount doesn’t irritate my skin. I use this cream as my AM moisturizer. It is deeply hydrating and absorbs into the skin easily. My skin feels so soft and smooth thanks to this cream. It soothes my skin after applying the clindamycin gel and reduces irritation. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ This sunscreen is perfect for dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and centella asiatica extract. With its 70% moisture base and 4 different types of essences, it works like a moisturizing cream. It provides SPF50+, PA++++ protection. I use this after the Ultra Repair Cream in the AM and then reapply 1-2 times throughout the day. It provides my skin with much-needed hydration and UV protection. It’s the perfect consistency and rubs onto my skin so easily, all without being sticky. It soothes and smoothes my skin! These are just some of the products that I use. My whole routine is aimed at hydrating my skin and reducing irritation. My AM routine includes: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser , PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner , PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum , Clindamycin gel, FAB Ultra Relief Cream, and Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen. My PM routine includes the same products listed above minus the SPF and CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream for my moisturizer.

Simplify your AM routine!!
I loooove skin care and find new products but when I sat down with a dermatologist in October and she asked I close my medicine cabinet full of (expensive) products and majorly simplify my routine. I reluctantly said I would try this and it’s been great for my skin, my wallet and getting out the door in the AM. The cleanser: LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Purifying Foaming Face Wash for Oily Skin is gentle on skin and leaves you feeling squeaky clean. Next I use 2 prescribed topical creams to help with acne and hyperpigmentation. Highly recommend working with a derm and being sure to have regular follow ups. TRUST the process! Then I use LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30 which is hydrating and lightweight! It provides so much moisture and top with a sunscreen. I was recommended LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 60 Face Sunscreen for Combination Skin SPF 60 This sunscreen goes on invisible and blends in well leaving no white cast but it is a chemical sunscreen. I found at times that this sunscreen would pill. Sunscreen is very important especially with one of my main skin concerns being hyperpigmentation/ dark spots.

Accutane skin care suggestions?
Hello community! I’m currently in my 2nd week of my second cycle of Accutane. My skin got pretty bad with all this mask wearing (thanks covid). Since staring Accutane my skin has gotten SUUUUUUPER sensitive and dry. I don’t remember having this bad of a skin sensitivity during my first cycle 5 years ago. I am a nurse so at the end of my 12 hours shift my pimples get dry and irritated, especially in the jaw/chin where my mask rubs against. My current skincare routine products are DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios Body and Face Gentle-Lotion Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 And I reincorporated The Ordinary - "B" Oil to try and lock in more moisture. The skin sensitivity is what’s seriously bothering my. My skin constantly feels itchy and burns. I would GREATLY appreciate product recommendations to help make this more tolerable. Much appreciated!
