Do’s & Don’ts of Skincare 🔆
On average it takes anywhere between 1-3 months to see progress (not always perfection) towards our skin goals 🦥 So while trying to find our perfect routine, keep in mind that each new product you introduce resets your timeline. Be patient. It’s okay to try new things, in fact you won’t find what works best for you if you’re not willing to explore and try new things. Another thing to keep in mind is that your skin is a barrier that should be treated with respect, love and gentle care 💙 ❌ Don’t introduce too many new products at once, you risk damaging your barrier, upping your skin sensitivity and the possibility of having to spend more time trying to figure out which product to cut out. ❌ Don’t give up. Your skin takes about 28 days to ‘recycle’ its cells and shed a new light. You won’t see instant progress, but understand you’re in it for the long term results, not the short term. ❌ Don’t keep using a bad product. If it isn’t working, it isn’t working. Accept it and move on to find what does work. ❌ Don’t stress about it. All you have is time, don’t spend it stressing over what to use. You WILL find what works best for you. You need time to see results and find your dream routine. Stressing will only make it worse. ❗️❌ DIY does not equal safe. There are plenty of DIY “miracle cures” out there. But putting lemon juice, baking soda, walnut shells, egg whites, etc. on your face WILL damage your skin or cause bacterial spread. Remember, you’re in it for long term results, don’t try short term (damaging) “fixes” that will set you further back. ✅ Choose products that match what you need / your skin type. ✅ Do your research, there’s plenty of information available online, take advantage of that to help you achieve what you want. (Especially for DIY. Please do research on the effect of the things you put on your face BEFORE putting it on your face) ✅ Ask a dermatologist. I can’t stress this enough, ask a dermatologist for advice if you’re stuck or unsure of what to do / where to go. Their job is to help make your skin look / feel its best for you. Understand that and work with that. Your skin should have two best friends; you and your dermatologist. ✅ Try new things! It’s okay if something doesn’t work, it’s not your only option available. ✅ Listen to your skin. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and its the most exposed to the world. Listen to how your skin feels. Are you feeling greasy? Tight? Dry? Crepey? ✅ Protect and restore your skin barrier. That skin barrier of yours is your best shield 🛡 against the world and its elements. Don’t destroy or weaken your shield. Protect and restore it. 🛡 ✅ Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Ceramides, Peptides, SPF, these are ingredients you should look for to protect and restore your barrier. ✅ ALWAYS WEAR SPF (during the day). SPF 30+ and reapply it every 2 hours! ✅ Take ya damn vitamins
🐌 I Dream a Slimy Dream of Hydration 🐌
At first reading the words “slimy”, “snail” and “mucin” may not sound too appealing when thinking of products to add to your skincare routine. However, have you researched the benefits of snail mucin for the skin? Here’s a few: ✨ Allantoin - a skin conditioning and protecting agent that is reported to have keratolytic, hydrating, epithelializing, and anti-irritant activities ✨ Glycolic Acid - an AHA that acts as a chemical exfoliant to remove dead skin cells, boost collagen production and reduce premature aging ✨ Hyaluronic Acid - used to bind water to the skin and prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL) ✨ Naturally Antibacterial - to prevent and destroy the growth of bacteria It doesn’t sound as gross now, right? 🌚 With 96% snail mucin in this 100ml essence, it certainly packs a delicate punch of skin benefits. Price? The price overall isn’t too bad considering you really only need two little pumps of this essence to cover your entire face. I got it off of Amazon for about $19 USD. Recommended For? I would recommend this for all skin types. I have dehydrated, sensitive, acne-prone / oily skin and my husband has dry acne-prone skin and we both absolutely adore this essence. It leaves our faces feeling SO hydrated and calm. ✨✨🐌 Texture? 😂 it is SLIMY, as expected, however it glides effortlessly on the skin and absorbs pretty quickly. It doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky or slimy either, just hydrated and nice ✨ How to use it? I like to use this after my toner, to give my skin a boost of hydration and prep for serums. I use only two small pumps and it covers my face entirely. ✨ Do I Like it? To say that I like it would be an understatement 💙 I love how it makes my skin feel, my skin feels hydrated, plump and soft after using it and it hasn’t caused any breakouts, in fact it helps keep my skin calm ✨ Overall Thoughts? Overall I think this essence is a fantastic addition to a routine, AM and PM. Its hydrating, calming and provides many benefits for the skin. The price point isn’t cheap, at least to me, but considering how long it will last with only two pumps per use, I think the price is fair. COSRX is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands and may even take over my routine 🌝 What do you think? Are you willing to put snail slime on your face? 🌚🐌🌝
COSRX-Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
Ability: SPF Veil - Base Defense: 35
I have been on the hunt for an SPF lip balm lately since I’ve been spending more time trying out different SPF’s for my face (reviews later, I promise) and while trying out different face screens, I thought “what about my lips?” 🤔 We all know it, the golden rule of skincare: USE SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY. 🌞 But have you ever thought of the fact that your lip balm should also have SPF? 🌝 Along with the risk of skin cancer, extended sun exposure gradually breaks down your collagen and results in thinning lips. So wearing SPF on your lips will help protect them from both skin cancer and signs of aging. 😲 Anyway, I have been trying out a few different SPF lip balms, all drugstore so far, with everything from Sun Bum (mango) which was awful because of the overpowering flavor to Aquaphor which wasn’t really my thing either. 🤮 But then, while grabbing vitamins in Target and someone without their mask 😷 came tumbling down my aisle, I fled over to the next aisle and suddenly a wild SPF O’Keeffe’s balm appeared! 😲 Being as I love their lotions for my eczema, I had to give their lip balm a try, plus it was only maybe $4? 🤔 Let’s just say I think I have found my holy grail SPF lip balm. 🙌🏻 ✨ it’s moisturizing as hell, I don’t feel I need to apply it as often as other balms ✨ my lips are sooo soft after using it and for so long too, I’m talking hours upon hours ✨ it’s SPF 35 compared to most other balms at SPF 15 ✨ it has shea butter in it ✨ it’s cheap 🌝 ✨ It doesn’t have a taste, which for me is perfect. I don’t taste it at all ✨ it’s water resistant up to 80 minutes 🙌🏻 Honestly, with that being said, I plan to buy one for my best friend and see how she likes it under lipstick / lip tint because it lasts such a long time and it feels so smooth and soft on the lips. Overall thoughts? I love this lip balm, its super moisturizing, has an amazing amount of SPF in it to protect the lips, it’s tasteless, it’s cheap, it feels amazing and I’m willing to bet it would be perfect for long wear under lip makeup 💄 OH, it also doesn’t take several swipes to use, only maybe two or three swipes and you’re good, so it will last a long time. This is THE lip balm SPF 🧴 for me and I am going to stockpile and order about 13 of them so I never run out. 🌚🙌🏻✨

Lets Talk Cleansers 🧼🌚🌝
[Maybe I’ll take a nicer picture later, but its 7:00 AM right now] Back in the day of my first dermatologist experience, my dermatologist told me two things that really stuck out to me: - “How can your skin be oily but also feel dry?” 🙃 - “Your cleansers don’t need to be fancy, stick to the basics that work to protect your skin barrier” Of course after hearing her first comment I was skeptical about if I had visited the wrong dermatologist 🙃 Nevertheless, she did recommend two products that I have stuck with through time and seen benefits from for both my acne and my dehydrated (oily) skin. ACNE FREE - Oil Free Acne Cleanser The first product she recommended was the Acne Free Oil-Free Cleanser, which has 2.5% micronized Benzoyl Peroxide. This helps to unclog pores and treat / prevent acne. ✨ This formula also includes ✨ ceramides ✨ which are important for maintaining your skins natural moisture barrier and strength. Overall, this product has helped me in the past and I have recently started using it again in the evenings to keep my acne at bay, in just a few days I have already noticed a difference and I keep asking myself why I strayed away from this cleanser 🌝 How to use? It depends on your skin type, but I have found that this works best for me in the evening, I have dehydrated, oily, acne-prone skin. But, I also don’t use this every night, only when I feel that I need to, because it can be drying if over used. CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin The second product she recommended was a gentle cleanser such as CeraVe or Cetaphil, I don’t remember exactly what led to me choosing this cleanser, but I’m glad that I did. It’s helped to keep my skin hydrated without feeling as though my skin is dry or stripped of moisture ✨ It’s also non-comedogenic, which I know some say is a marketing gimmick, but it matters to me. It hasn’t caused me any breakouts and it leaves my skin feeling comfortable 🌝 This cleanser has: ✨ 3 essential ceramides ✨ hyaluronic acid ✨ no fragrance ✨ glycerin How to use? I use this in the morning, since my skin can be exposed to a harsher environment during the day and I want my skin to feel hydrated. I don’t double cleanse in the morning, because there is no need to and I could risk stripping my skin if I did. —————————————————————————————— Overall thoughts? I do love these cleansers and they are my go to combo for my routine, they help keep my skin hydrated and clean. However, with that being said, I am certainly not opposed to trying new products to see if they work better for me. You never know what’s best for your skin until you try it. 🙌🏻 Have you used these products? What are your thoughts? 🌚🌝

A Powder That Combatted Quetzalcoatl’s Pyramid ⭐
If you’ve read my post about innisfree - Pore blur primer then you should already know that this is the powder I used alongside the Innisfree primer whenever I was in Mexico visiting my husband. ❤️ You should also know then that I trekked 8 miles up and down the pyramids of Teotihuacán 🇲🇽 and got super hot and sweaty 🥵 BUT, my face stayed nearly flawless thanks to this innisfree - No Sebum Moisture Powder and the innisfree - Pore blur primer 🙌🏻 Do I like it? YES! You tell me what powders keep your face nice while hiking up and down pyramids for 8 miles in the Mexican sun! This one did! Recommended for? I have dehydrated, oily, sensitive acne-prone skin and this didn’t make my face feel dry, didn’t make me oily and also didn’t cause any irritation or breakouts! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 So I would say it’s worth trying for any skin type! Overall thoughts? I can’t say that I’ve ever found a powder that doesn’t make my face feel tight / dry, but this seriously keeps my oil in check without dehydrating my skin and I love that. Plus, how could I not love a face powder that keeps my pale moonlit skin nice in the Mexican heat? Now granted, I DID have to reapply it at least once towards the end of the night on my first date with my now husband. Of course it was AFTER we took a picture together of me trying pulque for the first time and I looked a bit oily but that was around 11:00 PM. So I’d say for a face powder that lasted all the way from 8:00 AM, that’s pretty damn good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You can bet your sweet cheeks that I’m going to be stocking up on this stuff (just in case) when my husband and I move back to Mexico 🇲🇽🙌🏻❤️

Huitzilopochtli’s Sun Can’t Touch This 🌞
When my husband and I first started dating, I wore only two pieces of makeup while visiting him in Mexico: this primer and a face powder that I’ll also do a post on in a minute. 🌝 Let’s start with this; Mexico is hot. When you’re climbing up and down the pyramids of Teotihuacán and you finally reach the top of the sun pyramid you feel three things: 1. A sense of accomplishment 2. That workout burn in your legs 3. HOT & SWEATY Now, seeing as I am as pale as the moonlight, this means my face got super red and super sweaty AND I’m an oily girl with sensitive acne-prone skin 🙋🏻♀️ This primer not only blurred my pores, it also stayed during 8 miles of hiking up and down the pyramids in the sun, being in Veracruz 🇲🇽 during 100+ degrees of heat AND driving around without A/C and the windows closed during the Mexican summer. If that doesn’t say something about this primer, I don’t know what the hell will 🤷🏻♀️ Do I like it? F*ck yes I do! This is my go to primer! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Texture? It does have a bit of a waxy feeling texture, but that goes away after rubbing it in and it helps blur the pores and feels soft. It also has a slight tint, but that goes away when you rub it in. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recommended for? Honestly, I’d say all types. I have dehydrated, oily, sensitive acne-prone skin and this didn’t make me feel dry, oily or break me out 🙌🏻 It kept my skin feeling and looking good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall thoughts? If you’re looking for a primer to get the job done that won’t bother your skin, this is it. I do love this primer and even though I gave up makeup, I STILL keep one of these babies on hand. Its that good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ innisfree - Pore blur primer

Fight Acne with Retinoids and Retinol to GLOW ✨
🚨If you suffer from stubborn acne (like I have) you may want to consider adding OTC retinoids to your routine! 🔑Retinoids, a vitamin A derivative, are a key player in the skincare industry. Many studies have proven retinoids fight acne, promote collagen, reduce wrinkles and hyperpigmentation to give skin a healthy glow. The good news is now there are plenty of options for Rx strength one now available OTC! 💁🏻♀️I only mentioned products I’ve use and that work! Best OTC Rx Strength Adapalene 0.1% proactiv - Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment DIFFERIN - Acne Treatment Gel LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Adapalene Gel .01% Topical Retinoid Acne Treatment This former prescription-only retinoid works to unclog pores by slowing pore lining growth and reduces the skin’s sensitivity to inflammation! This is a great introductory retinoid if you’ve never used any before. ✨Prevents pimple formation ✨Speeds blemish healing time ✨Reduces inflammation and redness ✨Evens skin tone and texture ✨Anti-aging benefits Best OTC Retinol Serums Why do I like OTC retinoids better than retinol? Retinol actually takes much longer to work. In fact, because retinol must convert at the cellular level of the skin, it can take 6 months to a year before seeing results. Retinol can be 20x less effective than a Rx strength retinoids. Murad - Retinol Youth Renewal Serum dermalogica - Retinol Acne Clearing Oil SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum The Ordinary - Retinol 0.2% in Squalane The Ordinary - Retinol 0.2% in Squalane DRUNK ELEPHANT - A-Passioni Retinol Cream ✨Gentle formulas - good for sensitive skin ✨Decrease fine lines over time ✨Serums contain other skin hydrating ingredients Myths True and False: ⚡️Retinoids thin your skin - FALSE They actually strengthen your skin by promoting collagen production. ⚡️Retinoids have drying side effects - TRUE and FALSE When you start using retinoids, skin may go through a process of Retinization, the adjustment period in which dryness, flaking and redness can occur. Symptoms subside in about 4 weeks and are almost eliminated my using a great moisturizer. ⚡️You should wait till your older to use retinoids - FALSE Retinoids and retinol are safe to use ages 12 and up! 💁🏻♀️Right now, I personally use Proactive adapalene 0.1% for acne fighting and anti-aging at the same time! How save retinoids improved your skin?

NEW Topicals Duo! First Impression 🌟 Clear Skin
The new Topicals duo products promises to clear bright and hydrated skin ahead! The first from the brand, they sold out quite quickly and I’m excited I managed to get my hands on them. With an amazing ingredients list for both products, each which contain a great array of anti-inflammatories and other soothing topical ingredientsBoth products are fragrance- free, dye-free, vegan, and cruelty-free TOPICALS - Faded Brightening & Clearing Gel claims and ingredients taken from site: For spottie hotties - great for sun-damaged and scarred skin, this gel serum fades your most stubborn marks, scars, and spots so that you can kick back and let your worries fade away. Faded is gentle enough for those experiencing hyperpigmentation and erythema that can’t tolerate more aggressive acids, and is never bleaching! TOPICALS - Like Butter Hydrating Maskclaims and ingredients taken from site: For itchy gurls - great for dry, sensitive and/or eczema-prone skin, this thick, whipped mask is packed with powerful botanicals for skin so smooth it’s like butter. Like Butter helps to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier, soothe irritation and inflammation, and smooth dry, textured skin. It’s creamy without feeling greasy or heavy, and works great for flare-ups on other areas of the body. First impressions, I am impressed! Both textures are gel-like and set beautifully. Faded doesn’t pull when layered either! The chosen ingredients stack up and are some of my favorite for fading hyperpigmentation and soothing skin. I use them all separately, and am excited to finally have formulations that include them all together. Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, niacinamide, green tea, and licorice root are all star players! An added bonus of colloidal oatmeal in Like Butter makes it just that much better, and it really does have the texture of butter but it sinks into skin beautifully. After my first use I did wake up with smoother and brighter skin with less irritation, but only time will tell! One con I will say is will Faded, and it’s the smell. It’s a bit like a mix of chlorine and sulfur. I’m hoping I can get use to it because I can’t wait to incorporate these products into my routine and it fades quickly. I’m very excited for Like Butter, which I plan to use on eczema patches and as lip and nail care also. Not to mention buying the TOPICALS - Faded and Like Butter Duosaves $$ and they compliment each other perfectly!
