Skincare for Time-Savers – My Lazy Day Skincare Routine for Acne!
As someone that is beauty product OBSESSED – I sometimes end up with a twelve-step routine before bed. Although this is fun, sometimes I have to step back and ask myself: · Do I really need this many products? · Could too many products be actually harming my skin instead of helping? · Could I achieve the same healthy skin with less product application and significantly less money spent? A few details about my type of skin include: · European heritage · Oily-skin that is dry with the wrong products · Acne-prone skin since I was fifteen/ subsequent scarring · Fighting anti-aging and fine lines, especially around my smile and forehead. (Curse my expressive face that cannot hide any emotions!) So I asked myself – Can I get this down to three products? And voila! I selected my favorite three that I could NOT live without. When I do not feel like bringing out the entire skincare brigade – I opt for these main trusted three: 1. Herbivore’s Blue Tansy Resurfacing Mask – A bit about this product includes: a. Great for a once-per-week mask b. Sometimes I use it twice per week if I’m suffering from bad acne c. The ingredients clarify using aloe (soothing) blue tansy (redness calmer), white willow bark (anti-inflammatory), all combining for a resurfacing-effect that fights bacteria. d. Contains BHAs and Salicin (an anti-microbial that kills bacteria) e. The scent is fruity and smells like herbs/aloe f. Blue tansy has a mildly-medicinal fragrance g. The texture is thick, almost like maple syrup h. A little goes a long way! i. One bottle can last me about 6-months if I use it properly j. Price: $48.00 k.Ratings: 4.5-stars out of 200+ reviews 2. Terre Mere’s Aloe and Tea Tree Toner – A bit about this product includes: a. I only recently discovered this in my Fab Fit Fun box, a subscription service that sends new beauty products to your door once per season. b. On days that I do not mask with the Blue Tansy – I only use this toner and the oil listed in #3. (If only using these bottom two products, I would use the toner first, and then follow-up with the oil on step #3, for an even more simplified routine). You should also cleanse/wash your face between toning and moisturizing, but we’re going for basics here! c. I tend to lean towards products with aloe, very calming for my skin’s redness d. The tea tree oil offers an anti-fungal property to fight harmful bacteria that clog pores e. Infused with a sulfur compound that they claim offers a collagen-boosting effect f. Vegan g. Willow bark (now that I’m researching, quite similar to the blue tansy mask indeed!) There is a reason these ingredients are used for fighting acne – they work! h. Fragrance-free - important unless the fragrances are naturally-occurring. You don’t want to clog your skin with dyes and perfumes. i. Price: $54.00 j. Ratings: None available 3. Herbivore’s Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil – A bit about this product includes: a. I love the brand Herbivore Botanicals! It is one of my all-time favorites. Not only do I trust them for clean, vegan, and highly-moisturizing products, but they also fight my breakouts like no other topical treatment ever has. b. The prices are slightly high – however, the formulas are so concentrated. I have been able to make a bottle of this last for 6-months. That is less than $8 per month. So there is no need to see your skincare as a major luxury! c. Fights redness and dullness d. Absorbs quickly e. Great for any skin type– even oily skin. That is what it’s for! If you have oily skin, stripping it of natural oils will only reinforce oil production, resulting in more breakouts. Do not fight your skin’s natural proclivity to produce oil! Okay, queens!? f. Even if you have dry or combination skin, this product will leave you feeling exceptionally moisturized without a greasy effect. g. Utilizes a blend of cannabis oil, hemp seed oil, omegas, and adaptogens h. $1 for each bottle sold is donated to help legalize cannabis for therapeutic-use and medicinal research i. The color is as the name suggests – emerald to light green j. I use about 2-3 drops per morning and night k. I gently massage it into the places that become the most inflamed (around mouth mostly) l. Price: $48.00 m. Rating: 4.5-stars out of 100+ reviews I have a few other favorites, but honestly, nothing compares to these OG three! These main three products are heavily responsible for my skin having: · Reduced redness · Less inflammation and acne · A smoother texture · A brightened glow See the before and after pictures for proof of my glow-up!

IS CLEAN BEAUTY WORTH IT?
for someone with oily, acne prone & sensitive skin, finding products that work is a tough game because the skin is so unpredictable. Clean beauty has been all the rage and I didn’t even realize how many products I have in my skincare stash that is considered “clean beauty” (Sephora standard) To me, clean beauty is not so important based on ingredients but if it’s sustainable for the environment and normally I don’t pay attention if I’m being honest but I truly need to be more of a conscious consumer now👍🏽😛 I think refillable packaging or even products that are biodegradable based on the package is a blessing. I really appreciate the glass packaging from herbivore products and same with farmacy ☺️ I also enjoy the fact that SF has a recycling program so after finishing their products, you can send back the packaging and they will properly recycle each part and send you a free mini jet lag mask 💕 I think a down from clean beauty is the idea of synthetic fragrance! Even though they may not have the synthetic versions, fragrance of any sort is highly irritating to us sensitive skin people and many people and to me, clean beauty should be keeping parabens as this a properly studied ingredients that allows the products to have a longer shelf life. Since removing parabens, a lot of people have issues where their products expire before being able to use the entire product. That’s not only a waste of someone’s money but a waste of the product as well🤦🏽♀️ and “clean” beauty is not cheap💸💸 so that’s a big loss a lot of times However the products in the picture are some favourites in my collection. My skin really doesn’t enjoy every product featured however I don’t over use ANY of these due to fragrance but they are really helpful for my oily and acne prone skin☺️🤗 OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Juice Daily Cleanser deep cleans my skin, has a gel line texture and has a beautiful orange scent. The PHAs in this really cleans out the skin well but gently and I really love this on any days I wear make to REALLY get the deep clean OLE HENRIKSEN - Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner helped clear my skin and keep it looking bright! My dark spots truly faded, my scaring came down and overall the top of my skin looked ans felt smoother! fresh - Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask another amazing mask to give your skin the SOFTEST and smoothest look ever. FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum amazing powerful chemical exfoliant, highly recommend!! + glass packaging HERBIVORE - Blue Tansy Mask works well, weird smell but gentle resurfacing mask SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask second tube, mg skin loves this even though I have sensitive skin, I just don’t over use it + it’s multipurpose FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask hydrating but too oily for my skin, dry skin would love! #cheriepartner
PRODUCTS THAT CLEAR ACNE
PEACE OUT - Acne Healing Dots for a quick overnight heal on a bigger pimple, i use these. they work heavenly! i buy the 40 pack because it’s a better value by a couple dollars and then i just use as i see fit. on occasion, i will cut the dots in half to use in multiple places which makes them last longer. i use these and wake up with all the gunk soaked up in the dot. it’s very satisfying to see it in the morning. they take at least 6 hours to work their magic and contain salicylic acid, vitamin a, and aloe vera. with the bigger pimples, it might take a couple nights of use, but after the first night the pimple is a lot flatter and less red and much easier to cover. RENÉE ROULEAU - Anti Bump Solution (formerly named Anti Cyst Treatment) i use this on my chin. this product mostly targets those little patches of bumps that create an unwelcome texture on your face, as well as cystic acne that hides deep within your skin and can stay hidden there for weeks if not months. this can be used morning or night and is a clear almost gel-like texture that dries onto the patch of pimples or cyst. it can also be used on infected ingrown hairs. it contains lactic acid and citric acid, as well as methyl gluceth 20 which helps with redness and inflammation of the cyst or patch of pimples. SUNDAY RILEY - Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask i have finished one of these full-sized tubes and i’ll just say it’s amazing. i usually use it on my t-zone once or twice a week to keep any fungal acne at bay and help with oil control, both of which sulfur-based masks are good at. this mask is a little drying so just be sure to follow with a moisturizer or an oil! apply this mask lightly onto your face and don’t overdo it with application. the mask is also suggested to use as an overnight acne treatment, but i prefer to use it as a 20-30 minute mask and then wash it off. this mask contains 10% sulfur which targets a bunch of different types of acne, 4% niacinamide which is the miracle ingredient targeting pores and acne, and 1% zinc pca which helps to absorb any excess oil on the skin. be warned, it smells very strong, but it’s not terrible. HERBIVORE - Blue Tansy Mask this is a mask that’s great for acne and redness on the skin. it contains willow bark (a natural bha which unclogs pores), fruit enzymes (natural ahas which eliminate dead skin cells), and blue tansy (for redness and irritation). this mask has a thick gel texture and is a dark blue/teal color. i would use it once a week if i remembered to, but i admit to using it once or twice a month instead. i apply a thin layer all over my face and let it dry onto my skin for 20 minutes. there’s a tightening and almost stinging sensation in the first 3-5 minutes for me (which my sister does not experience, everyone is different), but then it disappears as the mask hardens. i love this mask and recommend to everyone with acne!

SERUMS VS OILS ?! WHATS THE DIFFERENCE ?!
I’ve seen this mistake made in many routines, including my own! When first getting into skincare, and experimenting with all sorts of new goodies it can be tough sometimes to understand a products function and what order to apply each product. It took me forever to figure out how to incorporate oils into my routine without just making myself look like a greasy monster 🙄 So I wanted to bring it back to basics and talk about the difference between facial serums and facial oils ✨ SERUMS: ✨ These are a treatment step, serums contain up to 70% active ingredients making them highly potent and results oriented. ✨Serums are made up of small molecules that are able to penetrate and deposit powerful actives into the deeper layers of the skin. ✨Serums can have moisturizing ingredients, but aren’t considered moisturizers in the traditional sense. You need to follow a serum with a moisturizer to create a barrier on top and keep all the good stuff in. ✨You should always use serums before moisturizer and never as a replacement FACIAL OILS: ✨Are best suited as a hydration step, the molecules are much larger meaning they are only serving the outermost layers of the skin. ✨Oils provide a boost of nutrition and hydration, they help nourish and strengthen the skin barrier. ✨Oils should be applied after serums and moisturizer, and can actually be used to replace your moisturizer. ✨ You only need about 2-3 drops of oil to cover your face without leaving a greasy film. A couple of my favourite are: SERUMS: ONE LOVE ORGANICS - Botanical C Facial Serum The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% HERBIVORE - Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum OILS:HERBIVORE - Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil
ACNE FIGHTING OIL
HERBIVORE - Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil For Oily & Acne-Prone Skin Herbivore Lapis is my BABY!!! It’s one of the first ever large oils I’ve purchased from Herbivore. Lapis is a hydrating face oil to balance skin while improving visible redness and blemishes. It’s a solution for acne, blemishes, redness, and pores. I love love love using this if I have some breakouts and redness around the areas, and honestly use this a lot during the cold winter when my skin can get chapped by the winter winds. * * * I’ve had the large bottle for a little over a year now and it lasts you quite a while for $72 since it’s not something you NEED to always use every day. At least not for my skin, anyways. I decided to try it because I had gotten a sample from a Sephora purchase and fell in love with the results, I needed to get the full size. It’s easy to use and I find it very effective. * * * It’s so effective because of the amazing ingredients. Blue Tansy which helps reduce redness and clarifies the complexion WITHOUT drying your skin. It contains natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial prosperities. There is plant-based squalane, which I know some skin types don’t react well to, but I find no issue using squalane. It’s a natural protective barrier to keep moisture in the skin, while PROTECTING from hyperpigmentation and premature aging. Kukui Nut Oil balances the sebum layer and oil production for those who have oilier skin types. This oil provides a high layer of hydration, as well as Jojoba oil. * * * This definitely gets 5/5 stars because I find it very hard to drop $72 on a skincare product, but when you know it’s a staple, then you know, you know? * * * Second pic is 5 drops applied in palm! As you can see it’s very very light weight and the color obviously isn’t a strong once it’s actually applied!
HERBIVORE-Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil For Oily & Acne-Prone Skin
BEST OIL FOR ACNE-PRONE/OILY SKIN
First things first, FOLLOW ME!! It means the world 🥰 I’ve tried sooooo many face oils that are meant to be good for oily/acne-prone skin (rosehip, jojoba oil... you name it) and they’ve all caused breakouts. I don’t use oily on the daily, just on occasion where my skin gets dry patches. Squalene oil is amazing for my skin type! Squalene oil is naturally present in our sebum, so by adding it on my face, it reduces my oil production the next day. It’s sooooo hydrating and speeds up healing of any scabs and wounds I might have from popping pimples. If your skin is on the oily side you’ll be glad to know that squalene doesn’t leave a greasy residue, absorbs quickly and is has anti inflammatory properties! LOVE U SQUALENE 🥰🥰🥰 The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Squalane

Face oil for acne
HERBIVORE - Lapis Blue Tansy Face Oil For Oily & Acne-Prone Skin Claims to help with redness, acne and blemishes - Redness: Somewhat / Blemishes: Somewhat / Acne overall: Yes Texture - Thin and runny Scent - Strong Parabens - No ——— I gave into the hype! This Herbivore oil has been everywhere and I had to buy it because so many people were talking about it. I’ve used up two minis now and decided to share my thoughts. This a balancing oil so it’s target is blemish/acne prone skin, oily skin and redness issues. So this will balance out your skin and help with redness, blemishes and is even acne friendly! This oil did a good job in evening my skin out. Helped slightly with redness and somewhat with break outs. My breakouts are my worst enemy for my acne so I was glad it helped a bit! I experience break outs almost weekly, so this helped a little... but in short not my favorite product to use for this issue. It’s hydrating in my opinion and sinks well into the skin. Additionally has a beautiful blue color. The product is lightweight and I love that. Contains jojoba oil, one of my all time favorites and also blue tansy, jasmine oil, vitamin E and squalane. The ingredients list is not my issue, except the coconut oil maybe but it didn’t clog my pores or is heavy. My big issue with this is the smell. It’s fine for a while but it lingers. Since this is an oil, I don’t layer anything on top of it so it smells a lot. So all in all it’s a multitasking oil that smells really strong of blue tansy and jasmine oil. But it’s the blue tansy that’s supposed to help acne-prone skin. The smell might sound good but somehow it’s not. Wouldn’t repurchase this. $72 dollars is too much and I have other products that work better for me. But it’s one of the few acne friendly oils I’ve seen on the market that actually work! It does balance out the skin. So I would recommend this to try, at least the mini. Seemed to have helped many people so might work for you too!

BYEBYE Mario Badescu
🌊 I used to be on the Mario Badescu HYPE. I owned all of these products and more, from their MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion to their MARIO BADESCU - Buffering Lotion and every variety of spray and lotion. 🌊 As a teenager through sophomore in college, i used their products religiously, because the brand was so popular and cult favorite. I know better now, because i understand my skin more and have learned about ingredients. well I still like the rose water facial spray, I’ve stopped using everything else from this brand. Why? you shouldn’t put alcohol on your face, especially if you have sensitive skin and acne. A burning sensation is an assignment a product is working most of the products in their acne care line contain alcohol The brand is an all cruelty free and vegan. That’s just an ethical thing for me their products just didn’t work for me. That’s not entirely the brands fault, as every persons skin is different they chemicals inside of a product A lawsuit was love it against the company for putting steroids into two of their creams, and people had negative reactions over prolonged periods of time 🌊 i learned: just because it works for others doesnt mean it works for me

What happened after 10 days of a vitamin C line
Over the past 10 days I have been trying out Georgette Klinger’s Vitamin C line! For a bit of background, I have acne prone skin and some hyperpigmentation from previous pimples. I went into this hoping to see improvements. To get the negatives out of the way first, I really dislike that these products have fragrance. All 4 products in this line have fragrance listed as the last ingredient. I would prefer products with active ingredients such as vitamin C to have no fragrance at all as to reduce any chance of irritation. The Vitamin C complex in particular was irritating to my skin so I omitted it from my routine early in the 10 days. My favorite from his line is the Vitamin C mask. I’m a big fan of masks and wash off treatments. I also love thta this is a bentonite clay based mask because those tend to work well with my oily skin. I will definitely continue to use this mask and don’t mind the fragrance in this formula because it is a wash off. As for the toner and cleanser, I didn’t see much positive or negative effects on my skin. They were okay and got the job done but I’m not sure if they’re something I want to include in my everyday routine. At the end of this challenge I can definitely see an improvement in the brightness of my skin. I will say however that my skin took a while to recover from any irritation it faced and I’m not sure if including an active ingredient in every step of your routine is necessarily more effective.
GEORGETTE KLINGER-Vitamin C Cleansing Gel
Blume kindly gifted me this product to try! Meltdown has been super helpful with spot treating my acne. This oil claims to fight acne, prevent future scarring, tighten your pores and reduce inflammation. Here are all of the ingredients below: Black Cumin Seed Oil, Rosehip Oil, Tamanu Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Comfrey Root Extract, Olive Leaf Extract, Lavender Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Helichrysum Flower Oil, Blue Tansy, Chamomile Flower Oil, Rosemary Leaf Extract I have been using this for about 4 weeks now and I am happy to report it does reduce the duration of my pimples. It is quite fragrant from all of the ingredients so if you’re sensitive to strong scents, beware. Obviously, its pretty hydrating, opposed to many spot treatments I have tried. During my period, I like to mix this in my moisturizer. This oil runs for $45 for 1 oz, which is okay for the amount you actually use. It goes a long way. ☆☆☆☆☆
