The best sunscreen for dry skin☀️
Y’all… Let me tell you how dry my skin gets. My skin gets so dry that it looks like my skin is actually flaking. I have struggled with dry skin my entire life and I hardly find any products that truly help my skin. I reached out to a friend who gave me a skin care routine and she suggested this sunscreen PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+
shellyjI'm sure you haven't heard, this brand (and a few others) have had third party independent testing on their products and the results came out that their spf isn't what they said it was. They were very transparent about it when it came out and are offering refunds to anyone that purchased their spf. From what I've heard and read, they've handled it well and I wouldn't be discouraged from buying their other products while they are actively doing tests on their own to find the issue and correct it.

UPDATE: I Quit Differin
This is a long overdue skincare update but I have quit Differin because it started to strip my skin barrier, and I kept breaking out even after applying the gel. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel -I’m about to run out of this cleanser and I’m thinking about replacing it with a more moisturizing cleanser from the same brand. This cleanser is excellent but I wish it was a bit more effective PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator -This has been a little too gentle on my skin so I wasn’t able to experience a huge difference after using this product The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HA -This serum is gentle on my skin and I have noticed an improvement in my skin’s tone VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream -I came back to this moisturizer to give it a second chance and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is better for people with very oily skin and I have combination skin PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ -This product is a chef’s kiss. It is gentle, hydrating, and very effective at protecting your skin from the sun I am still breaking out but I’m not sure which route to take. I’ve been exfoliating quite a lot and I’m thinking about going the other path and restoring the hell out of my skin. Any recommendations to restore my skin’s barrier and to increase collagen as well as clearing out my pimples and acne scars would be much appreciated!
Battle of the sunscreens ☀️🧴
Ever since the purito ‘scandal’ I went into a sunscreen shopping spree and tried a few. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ - I loved this sunscreen, it was moisturizing, didn’t leave my face oily or with a white cast and offered supposedly SPF 50 protection. Some lab results tested it and it came back at around SPF 19 and another test came back at SPF 30ish. I obviously no longer count on this sunscreen as my primary sunscreen but when working from home and far from windows I wear it and try to reapply it, not throwing it away until it’s finished! It’s an affordable physical sunscreen. Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Sunscreen SPF 50 - this sunscreen is a chemical sunscreen. I learned after I bought it that one of the ingredients is not good for the coral reefs so never buying again. It burns, leaves my face oily and has a strong scent that I don’t like. As a chemical sunscreen it doesn’t leave a white cast. ETUDE - Sunprise Mild Airy Finish Sun Milk SPF 50+ PA+++ - I bought this off of a recommendation for a substitution for the purito one. It’s very light and absorbs easily but it does leave a white cast which lead me to buy the next one. Australian Gold - Botanical Tinted Face Sunscreen SPF 50 - this sunscreen is awesome. I never wear makeup so I was nervous I’d look weird/different with a tinted sunscreen but that’s not the case. The color is to offset the white cast that is hard to not have with a mineral sunscreen. It’s pretty affordable at $10 for 3oz. Though I’ve tried multiple sunscreens I’m not done experimenting and trying new ones, just waiting to use up these four first. I go through sunscreens pretty fast though, with using them everyday and having to reapply once or twice. Let me know what your experience with these sunscreens has been and if you have any recommendations for physical sunscreens that don’t leave a white cast and don’t leave your face oily!
Sunscreen is an important part of the skincare and it can be helpful in treating many skin conditions - it's helpful with pigmentation, acne and ageing. I've got combo sensitive skin and finding a product that'll match my skin is hard but I got myself some sunscreens lately. 🌿Make P 🌿Krave Beauty Beet the Sun - I always thought that cleanser or AHA Treatment will be my first purchase from this brand but nope, I needed a sunscreen ASAP that's why I got this one. 🌿The Saem Eco Earth Power Mild Sun Cushion (Over Action Little Rabbit), I literally got it only because of the packaging, I just love bunnies and I wanted to get this series so badly and sun cushion sounded so good.

SKIN GLOW 101: SPF ✨
Hey friends! Do you find yourself glowing immediately after you finish your AM routine, but feeling dull or too matte throughout the day? Oh boy, I have an exciting product for you 🤩 let’s talk about Biossance’s new SPF formula! BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++ To preface this, I want to say my skin tone is fair—so often times I don’t have to worry about white cast—I fully acknowledge my privilege in that aspect. The cool thing about this screen is that it is a mineral formula with NO WHITE CAST! I saw Jackie Aina applying it in a video and I was floored. I also want to add that my skin type is acne-prone and sensitive with rosacea so I typically prefer mineral sunscreens since they’re less irritating *to me* than chemical screens. Biossance’s “gimmick” is their plant-derived squalane—you can find it in every single product in their line. The spf is no different. Due to that, the texture is a bit heavier than other sunscreens I have used. Think traditional “sport” coppertone-esque levels of heaviness. Due to this, on days that I use this sunscreen, I use it in place of my moisturizer or else it feels incredibly heavy on my skin. That’s where this loses one star for me. Even though I have to rate this 4/5 stars, it gives me an INSANE dewiness throughout the day that doesn’t look oily. It’s amazing! It also hasn’t caused any breakouts in the time I’ve been using it (1 month). It runs on the pricy side—$30 for 1.7oz. I recommend getting a mini size or a sample before purchasing. I would recommend this for normal to dry skin types, not oily as it might make the situation worse. 4/5 What are your favorite sunscreens?

🌱𝐏𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐎 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐧 𝐒𝐏𝐅𝟓𝟎+ 𝐏𝐀++++🌱 Contains their 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Centella Asiatica extract, Hyaluronic Acid and Tocopherol. 𝐔𝐕 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Uvinul A Plus (diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate) Uvinul T 150 (octyl triazone) _________________________ I really liked Purito’s Comfy Water sunblock so I was really excited to try this one. Since it’s marketed as great for acne prone skin, I thought I wouldn’t have any issue with this sunscreen. Unfortunately, it caused my skin bad reaction. I have used it twice so far, and in both times it made my face soo red and irritated that I ended up removing it after few hours. It leaves me a tacky feeling and a very shiny finish too. I thought I might have mixed it with a wrong ingredient at first try so I wore it alone the following day and still had the same reaction. I still can’t figure it out - I feel really disappointed. Does anyone else have the same experience? Perhaps it’s just my skin being oversensitive these days? 🤔 I’d probably still give this another try after a while. _________________________

Do you use spf when you’re indoors as well, or only when you’re headed out? I never leave the bedroom without putting on spf because there’s actually still the risk of UV exposure that comes from lamps and other indoor light sources! These are the few I’ve been using lately: 〰️ krave The beet shield You guys already know how much I love this. It’s lightweight liquid texture, leaves no white cast and I’ve never experienced any breakouts or irritation from it. I already have a backup! 〰️ drunkelephant Umbra Tinte Honestly this really didn’t jive with my skin. I felt like it sat on top of my skin forever and it was also a little pore-clogging for me. Not a repurchase. 〰️ klairs Soft airy UV essence Another one of my favorites! This applies like a serum, no white cast and no greasiness. Will repurchase when I’m done. 〰️ getsundaily Sun protective dietary supplement Technically not a spf and are not a replacement but more of just an added protection. The gummies claim to protect the skin from within and while I can’t see an immediate difference yet, what I can tell you is that these are super yummy and also vegan and organic. I’ll be continuing to take one of these daily just to add another layer of protection and for peace of mind.

Face Sunscreen that Hydrates & Protects! ☀️
Disclaimer: Two studies have shown that this Purito sunscreen only contains 19 SPF. They have stopped selling them and are offering refunds to those that have bought the product in the past 6 months. I no longer use or recommend this product. Check out Krave - The Beet Shield if you are looking for an alternative! It can be hard finding the right face sunscreen. There are SO many out there! Well let me tell you about PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ What is it? - A water-based sunscreen formulated with Centella extracts that help protect your skin from UV rays and harmful environments without stickiness or white residue left on the skin. It does not contain any essential oils or artificial fragrance, making it suitable for sensitive skin types. It uses SPF50+ PA++++ and photo-stable UV filter to provide soft yet powerful protection from ultraviolet rays. Is it safe for sensitive skin? - Purito excludes all the components of most common chemical UV screens that aggravate acne and irritate sensitive skin, such as Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, 2-methylbenzylidene camphor, Oxybenzone, and Abobenzone. Instead, they exclusively use EWG Green Level Grades 1 and 2 ingredients, making sure the product is suitable for all skin types. How does it work? - Unlike other sunscreens that form a physical layer to ensure UV protection, this product is absorbed into the skin where it transforms UV rays into harmless heat, so you don’t feel it on your face. Moreover, with its 70% moisture base and 4 different types of essences, it works like a moisturizing cream, making it even easier to apply natural makeup. What’s in it? - This product contains Hyaluronic acid that helps retain over 1,000 times its weight in water within the skin cells, as well as Centella asiatica extract that restores the oil/moisture balance of the skin and helps the formation of collagen which gives the skin its elasticity. In other words, it has all the necessary ingredients to keep your skin healthy and well moisturized. My review- - I purchased this product after seeing Skincare by Hyram and Whatsonvisface recommend it! I had been using Rodan and Field’s Soothe Sunscreen, but wanted something that did not sit on the skin, yet still provided hydration. I am treating my acne with clindamycin and tretinoin so I needed a sunscreen that hydrates and soothes my skin, while not clogging my pores. This sunscreen does exactly that! It rubs onto my skin so easily. It’s the perfect consistency, not too thin but not too thick. It provides hydration and protection, without being sticky or sitting on the skin. The lack of essential oils/fragrances, plus the addition of centella, means it’s non-irritating. It also contains niacinamide, which is perfect for acne-prone skin! Since I have dry skin, I use it in addition to my moisturizer, but I think if you have oily skin you could just use the sunscreen since it’s so hydrating!

My Favorite Sunscreen ☀️
I have combination skin that is sensitive and acne-prone. I’m also someone who doesn’t like anything with a sticky feeling on my face! 🌱This is the Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen and it is gorgeous. ✨First of all, it passes the Not Sticky test and doesn’t leave a white cast at all. It’s basically another hydrating moisturizer for your face in the way it applies and interacts with the skin. For this reason, reapplying doesn’t feel gross or heavy and this is one of the few sunscreens I actually enjoy reapplying throughout the day which is so important! ✨This has Hyaluronic Acid in it as well as Centella to enhance the skin barrier which provides protection from ultraviolet rays and any external stressors. It also avoids things like fragrance and essential oils so it is good for sensitive skin. ✨This is $16 for 2 oz which in my opinion is great for what you’re getting. What’s your favorite sunscreen? 🌞

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.3 DAYS AGO
