Retinol use for beginners from an Esthetician!

If you’re ever wondering how to start using retinol, this is for you! I want to start off by saying that if you’re interested in using retinol you must wear sunscreen daily. If you know you’re never going to wear it PLEASE do not use retinol. With that being said, let’s start off by explaining what retinol is and what it does for you! Retinol is Vitamin A! There are many types of retinol, like retinoids, retinol esters, etc. These are all derivatives of Vitamin A, and are more gentle and less potent versions of pure retinol. Retinol helps speed up our cell turn over rate in our skin. What that means, is that it will help you shed your dead skin cells faster to reveal new skin that’s brighter, smoother and healthier! As we get older, our “cell turnover rate” (CTR) slows down. So we use products like retinol to keep speeding it up so we can stay younger longer! Most people know retinol for treating fine lines and wrinkles, but it’s actually incredible for treating acne and acne scars! This is what I personally use it for. Retinol is strong and acts as an exfoliant so you must be careful with what products you’re using along with it in your regimen. Don’t layer or mix Vit C and retinol as they don’t like each other! Retinol should ONLY be applied at nighttime never in the morning. It makes you photosensitive which is a term to describe sensitivity to the sun. Most people experience some purging in acne, peeling/dryness, redness/irritation, and burning sensations when using a high dose of retinol without buffering it properly. If you use my buffering method properly you will not experience that at all! Now that you understand what you’re putting on your skin, I will explain how to use it! You shouldn’t start retinol by just applying it straight onto your skin without ever using it before. Your skin has to adjust to this new product and should be incorporated gently and slowly. It takes a month for your skin to adjust. You want to buffer your retinol with a gentle moisturizer. Nothing with actives like exfoliants (AHAs or BHAs)! Retinol goes after serums and before moisturizer in your routine! Week 1: use your retinol maximum 2x weekly. Start with one pea size amount of retinol and buffer it with 3 parts of moisturizer! Mix & apply to your skin! Week 2: use your retinol maximum 3x weekly. You’re going to do equal parts retinol and moisturizer. 2 parts retinol and 2 parts moisturizer. Mix & apply to your skin! Week 3: use your retinol maximum 3x weekly. Use 3 parts retinol (equal to a pea size) and 1 part moisturizer. Mix & apply to your skin! Week 4: use your retinol maximum 4x weekly. Apply a pea size amount of retinol directly onto your skin! Then apply your moisturizer directly on top of the retinol! If your skin cant handle retinol alone then stick to the buffering method forever! It will be just as effective as applying it alone! This method will minimize purging and keep your barrier healthy! Hope this helped! ❤️COSRX - Propolis Light Cream

HannahDragomerFound you on Tik Tok!! What exactly do you mean by buffering? Does that mean put moisturizer on before the tretinoin or apply them at the same time?

JillSharkeyYay!! Welcome:)! Buffering is just a term for mixing or diluting the retinol🤍 always apply your moisturizer after! People like to apply retinol on top of moisturizer while mixing still because it’s a more gentle way to use it. Applying under moisturizer will give a stronger effect of the product!

New moisturizer alert!✨
So I took the advice of many on my last post and decided to drop the Murad - Nutrient-Charged Water Gel . I was disappointed to do so, considering I have had such great luck in the past with other Murad products, but sadly this wasn’t it for me! Although this stuff went on like BUTTER, I found out it had some pretty heavy duty sulfate properties in it, which is a big no-no for my pores and acne prone skin. The fragrance was also incredibly strong, which I didn’t quite mind as that stuff has never truly bothered me in the past, but after a weird breakout once incorporating that product, as well as the COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, and reading all the kind and helpful replies, I said goodbye to the moisturizer and returned it for.....🥁🥁🥁 COSRX - Propolis Light Cream !!! Now, finally an entire K-Beauty routine!! I have only been using the cream for about two days, however, it’s genuinely as soft as the Murad moisturizer , if not more. Plus, NO fragrance! and NO sulfates!!!! The last two days I’ve woken up, my skin has for once felt so hydrated in the morning, not too oily, and not too dry! I will keep tabs on this one for sure, before I give it too much credit, but I think she’s likely to stay safe and sound in my routine 😂 Have you ever tried this product? What did you think?!

Honey in your Skincare 🍯🧡
I recently got the Honey Glow Trial Kit from Cosrx to test out, and have been using for 2 weeks now. My thoughts: COSRX - Propolis Synergy Toner - can't wait to purchase this in full size. I really want to start using more hydrating toners, and I enjoyed how this sinks in my skin in the morning before the rest of my routine. COSRX - Full Fit Propolis Light Ampoule - this one was not my favorite. I didnt dislike how it felt, but I didn't notice a difference in my skin from using it. I applied this at night before moisturizer and it wasn't quite hefty enough to makes its way into my routine. COSRX - Propolis Light Cream - I lovedddd this cream. It was a thick cream, but it does absorb nicely. I used this in the morning and it worked perfectly for my dry skin! Overall, this kit was a great way to try the propolis line and figuring out what I want a full size of. I love trial kits and minis just for that reason! This Glow Kit is available for 20% off through January 4th on Yesstyle! You can also use my rewards code TARATHEESTIE for extra money off.

I just can’t believe that this
I just can’t believe that this Pyunkang Yul set is here with me now! I am actually looking forward to try more products from this brand after using and finishing their Essence Toner. The Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner has helped me throughout my bad episode last year when I had dry, sensitive, and flaky skin. I am so amazed by how gentle and hydrating it was for my skin. The texture is medium light and hydrating. It soothes my redness and calm my skin. I just try out the Moisture Serum, as you can see in the picture, the texture is milky white and quite thick but it doesn’t feel heavy at all on my skin. It doesn’t has any scent. The Moisture Cream is thick and very hydrating. It takes a little bit time to absorb, but then my skin feel so smooth and soft. Have you guys tried any of the Pyunkang Yul products? 💙Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner: moisture essence toner which is full of nourishment and rich hydrated. 💙Pyunkang Yul Moisture Serum: the moisture serum fully moisturize your skin and helps you nourish softer, smoother and silkier skin texture. 💙Pyunkang Yul Moisture Cream: a gentle yet effective cream that supplies an abundance of moisture to even the most sensitive and young skin.

🐌 Gary Had Secrets - Secrets to Hydration 🐌
🐌 Gary Had Secrets - Secrets to Hydration 🐌
When I think of skincare, I don’t think of snail mucin (slime - snail secretion filtrate) but lo and behold it exists and its a holy grail product 🐌🙌🏻🐌 The ancient Greeks knew Gary’s secret looong before I did. Then France, then Chile, then Korea. Basically everyone else way before me. 💁🏻‍♀️ Snail mucin is actually incredibly beneficial to skin thanks to some of the different components in it: glycolic acid glycoprotein enzymes copper peptides hyaluronic acid Its also...anti-microbial 🐌 All of these pieces make it great for repairing skin damage, evening skin tone, fading hyperpigmentation, firming and tightening the skill, boosting collagen production and hydrating the skin thanks to its hyaluronic acid. Do I like it? Absolutely I do! Its one of the only moisturizers I’ve ever found that soaks into my skin so nicely and leaves my skin feeling so plump and hydrated AND it hasn’t caused any acne flare-ups for me at all. Actually its been helping my skin stay hydrated and keeping my acne down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Price? The price is comparable to some other Ulta / Sephora beauty picks, but its also a fair price considering a little goes a long way ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recommend for? I’d recommend it for all skin types, even oily 🙋🏻‍♀️ It is on the lighter side though, so dry / dehydrated skin types might not benefit as much from it. But if you’re in the market for a lightweight moisturizer, give it a try 🙌🏻 Texture? Not gonna lie, its a little slimy / sticky and it took me about ten minutes of just playing with it between my fingers before I actually put it on my face. But, it spreads easily and absorbs quickly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall thoughts? Overall this product is amazing, its hydrating but light and it really is the only product that I’ve used that has really brought my dehydrated skin back to life and even moreso when combined with my other hydrating products. It makes me hesitant to even think of trying a different moisturizer because my skin feels sooo good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ingredients? Snail Secretion Filtrate, Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic acid, Arginine, Dimethicone, Carbomer, Panthenol, Allantoin, Sodium Polyacrylate, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol, Adenosine, Phenoxyethanol.

Klairs Midnight Blue Calming C
Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream⁣ ⁣ PRODUCT INFO: Midnight Blue Calming Cream effectively soothes, hydrates and comforts your complexion. Powered by nature, the quick-absorbing, blue-coloured formula combines soothing Centella Asiatica Extract and Guaiazulene to calm redness and irritation. Guaiazulene, which is the key ingredient of the Blue Cream, is a plant-based component extracted from camomile oil. It has a natural violet color, which gradually turns the cream into a gentle blue color after the blending process. The gentle spot treatment cream creates a thin protective layer over the face to moisturise and defend against environmental stresses.⁣ ⁣ MY THOUGHTS: I love this calming cream. It can be used as a spot treatment for irritations like pimples or all over to calm chronic redness which I have. And Klairs has a great reputation for skincare! Highly recommend!⁣

Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel
Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel
this is a hydrating gel that is supposed to soothe sensitive & problematic skin — it’s targeted for those with redness, acne & hyperpigmentation I purchased this because one of my favorite skincare bloggers raved about this so I bit the bullet & purchased this on Dermstore. I tried this for several weeks on my red blemishes, hoping this gel would help reduce inflammation & redness — if I’m being honest, I really didn’t see much of a difference 🙁 my pimples / acne looked the same before I applied and after I applied this I usually am a fan of Skinceuticals products but this one didn’t work for me. And for $67 for 1 fl oz, this product isn’t exactly cheap either. maybe this is better for people with rosacea or rashes?? but for the price and results, I don’t think this will be a repurchase for me rating: 1/5 - wanted this to work for me but didn’t see the results

It’s the first product I got to try from Wishtrend so I’m a lil disappointed. Used this in the morning after cleansing, followed by a thicker moisturizer. Merely ok. My skin felt a bit smoother after every application, though not necessarily moisturized. This did not irritate my skin and worked gentler than a BHA face wash. If you’re someone who regularly uses a salicylic acid cleanser in the morning, I think the cream can be a good substitute as a gentle exfoliator. I’m well aware Hibiscus is a good anti-aging ingredient, can increase moisture and improve elasticity. But i’m not entirely convinced that it can’t have any fragrant compound, the main reason why i’m really hesitating to continue using this.⁣⁣ Overall, I think it’ll be worth a try for anyone who wants a gentle exfoliating cream. ☺️ although these products are
☺️ although these products aren’t minis, they are still super cute and perfect for travelling! 🛫 I’ve been wanting to try their products since I first heard about🤩 if you’re not aware of who they are, they basically formulate simple, clean, cruelty-free, vegan, products. No fussy packaging and crazy markups — all of their products are super affordable! . 🌱 Dew Point is a simple gel-cream moisturizer that is surprisingly very hydrating! It’s like the perfect gel-cream texture. I’ve never tried anything like it! In fact, I was initially skeptical about it but I truly love and enjoy it now. It’s lightweight, non-greasy and never leaves a sticky residue like other gel-creams do. I think it’s perfect for those with dry/combo skin, but those with oily skin may also enjoy it as it is very lightweight and refreshing. 🌱 Found The Light is vitamin C in a powder form. This product is quite interesting and very unique. You guys know I’m super prone to PIH and acne scars so I’m a huge sucker for anything vitamin C. This stuff mixes SO WELL with anything and never clumps up. I love mixing it with Dew Point — it slightly thickens it up and provides a matte finish. People with oily skin might actually really enjoy this. I think it’s also important to note that I‘ve never experienced any tingling or irritations. In terms of significant changes in my skin, I haven’t used it enough to really notice a difference but I will certainly keep you guys updated. .
