The Benefits of Thermal Water for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
Thermal water is a magical ingredient that does wonders for my skin type. I have oily and sensitive skin, as well as inner dryness. My skin is also acne-prone. Ever since I discovered products containing thermal water, my skin has improved a lot. It has been calmer and has less redness and inflammation thanks to the healing properties of thermal water. I found out about this ingredient through the brand LA ROCHE-POSAY, which was introduced to me by my friend a few years back and the focus of this article. This brand is trusted and recommended by dermatologists worldwide, and my personal experience is that it truly lives up to its reputation thanks to the thermal water ingredient. Currently, my favorite products containing thermal water are the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel and the Effaclar Duo Plus, and using them in combination delivers fantastic results. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin This is a very gentle yet effective cleanser that does not irritate my sensitive skin. It leaves my face feeling cleaned and soft without stripping off my skin. This cleanser is in a clear gel texture and lathers up nicely to a creamy finish even though it is soapless, thus, perfectly safe for sensitive skin. The thermal water ingredient in this product calms my skin; therefore, I feel comfortable using this day and night. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment Because I have acne-prone skin, I often have a lot of hyperpigmentations on my face. This corrective moisturizer claims to target blemishes, imperfections, and marks, which I agree to a certain extent. The result is not drastic, but my skin does feel brighter and clearer. It has quite a thick texture but absorbs quickly into the skin and does not leave an oily finish. And it is perfect for my skin because it is oily and dry on the inside. It can hydrate my skin, and my face feels smooth and matte, which I love. I believe that the thermal water ingredient reduces the redness and imperfections of my skin. Overall, I would recommend people with similar skin type and skin concerns to try out this ingredient. My skin has benefited from it.

It is worth every penny!
I've had the most stubborn pimples on my chin & cheeks that I've been babying for literally three weeks! They were shrinking then getting inflamed. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatmentthis cleared my skin up with only a few whiteheads and no new breakouts within a week. If you're sick of $60 skincare products that smell nice but have no actual effect, this is for you. This is an Oil-free, Fragrance-free, Paraben-free, Non-Comedogenic peroxide spot treatment, and it works like one. For some skin that might be too harsh, but for my oily, hormonal acne-prone skin, it's excellent. The best way I've found to use it as a daily, acne treatment, cleanse face, tone, then apply to the affected area. Leave it to dry out. Use it daily, day, and night. Don't use any oil products. If you're just starting out with this stuff, you can try to apply a thin layer morning or evening 1-2 times daily to affected areas. I suggest using it once a day to start until your skin gets used to it. I do think it is very strong though, so use very little and don't use this multiple times a day. Or even every night on the same part. I did moisturize before applying this, so I think that helped compensate so I don't overly dry out my skin. By day 2 or 3, you will see a reduction of the pimples. Also, the applicator is great. I like that it dispenses very little, so it's easy to control. Other ones with big dispensers end up getting wasted due to how much squeeze out. Recommended for blemishes, blackheads, and whiteheads. Dermatologist tested on sensitive skin. And while this is on the pricier side, it is worth every penny. Since using it my skin has also become less oily and less textured. The only downside is if I forget to put it on, my skin kindly reminds me by breaking out again. But that’s my fault, not the products lol. I would recommend this product to anyone with stubborn breakouts. I will repurchase!
Skincare advice from my derm
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in over ten years of dealing with acne, it’s that sometimes, over the counter products just aren’t enough. Frustratingly, the healthcare system in the US makes dermatologist visits and prescription meds very expensive. That’s why I want to share some of the advice I’ve gotten from my dermatologist. While I do use several prescription medicines to treat my acne, the tips and tricks I’ve gotten from my derm are useful for anyone dealing with the same issues as me (hormonal acne, as well as the texture and hyperpigmentation left behind). For reference, my skin is not sensitive—not sure if I was born that way or if I’ve built up a tolerance to harsh products over the years. I use a telemedicine service called Apostrophe, and before that, I used Curology. You fill out a questionnaire on your medical history and skin concerns, upload pictures of your skin, and a dermatologist reviews the information and creates a treatment plan for you. I have a whole post on why I switched from Curology to Apostrophe, but the short answer is that Apostrophe prescribes more oral medications and I wanted to try that route. I’ve had an excellent experience with both companies in terms of the detailed advice I’ve gotten from my providers. So let’s get into it! Here are some things my dermatologists have told me: Don’t pick at your skin... seriously. One of the best tips I got was to use hydrocolloid patches on acne with a head: not only does it help the bump go down way quicker, it keeps me from picking at it any further. I LOVE the COSRX - Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch and I never go without them. Look at your diet. My derm says she gives this advice to ALL her patients: limit sugar, processed carbohydrates, and dairy. She says food is not generally the main cause of acne, but it can certainly aggravate it. She also always recommends increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables. Use sun protection—it helps dark spots fade faster, and of course prevents wrinkles. My derm recommends wearing SPF 30 or higher, as well as a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors. Along with my prescription cream, which includes niacinamide and tretinoin, my derm recommends the following products: LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment, LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel, LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser,CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin,Neutrogena - Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser, LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30, CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream These tips and the prescription meds I received from Apostrophe, have made my face clearer than it’s been in YEARS. I’m thrilled with my progress (the before/after photos have about 90 days between them). I’m running out of space, but feel free to ask any questions in the comments! #CheriePartner

The Ordinary’s chia seed oil
Got this in the summer of August and have been using this almost everyday. I’m so glad I incorporated this into my skincare regimen! I use this as an occlusive to seal in all of the hydrations, serums, and treatments at night. The chia smell is a bit strong but it doesn’t linger for long. Every morning I see a hydrated smooth skin glow! I noticed it speeds up healing time for my acne pigmented scars. This is perfect for post-retinoid or exfoliating treatments to soothe and build healthy skin barrier.I also noticed this may be good for hair, but I’ve yet to try. I have oily/combo skin with a damaged skin barrier, so this works wonders! PM routine: innisfree - Apple Seed Cleansing Oil LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin PURITO - Centella Green Level Calming Toner The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% curology tretinoin The Ordinary - 100% Organic Virgin Chia Seed Oil
My Skincare Routine to Fix Acne-Prone Skin
I have been struggling with breakouts ever since I was a little kid. Throughout the years, I have developed a skincare routine that works well for when I am breaking out. I am sure that even those with perfect skin can sometimes get a pimple or two on their faces, and that requires a change from their usual skincare routine to help reduce the breakouts. I have extremely oily skin, and that causes a lot of sebum buildup on my face. The oils can get mixed up with the dirt and dead skin cells on the surface of my face, clogging my pores and ending up breaking me out. This left me with a lot of acne scars all over the face and uneven skin texture. My breakouts are often triggered by staying up late, hormonal imbalance during my period, or eating unhealthy foods. Skincare Routine Step One: Cleanse well using La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Anti-Acne Cleanser $20 / 200 ml LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin I always come back to this cleanser when I am breaking out because it cleanses well and is very mild. It is in a gel texture that foams up nicely when in contact with water. After using it, my face feels clean and soft, and all the oils and dirt are wiped away without overdrying my skin. This product contains thermal spring water that softens, soothes, and protects the skin, and Zinc PCA that helps regulate sebum production. I did realize that my skin becomes less oily throughout the day if I use this cleanser consistently for a month. I also noticed fewer blackheads. I am happy with the price because of its effectiveness in reducing breakouts and the amount of product that could last me for weeks. I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family and repurchase this product when I am having breakouts again. Step Two: Tone and soothe the skin using Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray $20 / 300 ml Avène - Thermal Spring Water Spray This face mist is super effective in calming the skin. My face immediately feels refreshed and less red whenever I use it. My skin often feels irritated, itchy, and painful when I am breaking out, so I like to use this face mist after cleansing to tone and soothe my skin. It also contains thermal spring water that soothes and calms sensitive skin. It is very affordable considering its big size. Once again, I would highly recommend people with any skin type to give it a try, and you will notice a big improvement in your skin condition. Step Three: Hydrate using Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly Anti-Pollution $70 / 200 ml CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly I like to use this moisturizer when I am experiencing breakouts because of its incredibly lightweight water jelly textures and its anti-pollution aspect. As I mentioned before, my pimples usually form from the mix of dirt and oils on my face. This moisturizer has clean shield technology that locks in moisture for the skin while filtering out the bad stuff from the environment. The clean shield technology is formulated with a moisture barrier blend of sunflower seed cake, barley extract, and cucumber fruit extract. The product also contains hyaluronic acid which acts as a natural moisture humectant. I noticed that my skin becomes less irritable and breaks out less when I started using this product despite the bad air quality outside. There is definitely less dirt blocking my pores, and the product’s lightweight texture feels very refreshing on the skin. It did not suffocate my oily skin and gets absorbed into the skin quickly. It claims to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier and improve resiliency. Its oil-free formula leaves a non-sticky finish on my face, which I really like, and leaves no residue. My skin feels smooth, strong, and healthy with a pure, clean glow.
The Skin Care Brand that You Must Try: La-Roche Posay
La-Roche Posay is the brand that I would confidently buy any products from without checking the ingredients or online reviews, and would proudly introduce to any of my friends. The reason is that the brand is so trusted and beloved worldwide, and based on personal experiences, I have thoroughly enjoyed every single product that I have purchased so far. La-Roche Posay was founded in France but is accessible worldwide as it is a pharmacy dermatological skincare brand that deals with sensitive skin specifically. My friend, who is very into skincare, introduced the brand to me, and I have been using its products for at least three years. I loved the products for their low price yet effectiveness. I always notice a massive improvement in my skin quality after I use La-Roche Posay products, and there is one product that I always go back to when my skin needs an extra bit of help. · Effaclar Duo Plus: LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment One of my biggest skin concerns is acne. On top of that, I have extremely oily and sensitive skin, so it is challenging for me to find a skincare product that reduces breakout and calms my skin without burdening my oily skin. However, this moisturizer is the perfect product for me, and I highly recommend it to people with similar skin concerns as me to try this out, and you will fall in love with this brand. This product is in a creamy white texture that feels very lightweight on the skin. I also love the refreshing scent. It gets absorbed quickly and leaves a matte finish, which I find to be too drying as a moisturizer at night, but perfect for the morning, especially under my makeup since the excess oil won’t ruin my base makeup on my face. After a week of using this product, all my breakouts, especially the large bumps, have been reduced. Besides, my skin’s redness has gone down because of its famous calming ingredient, thermal water, which is perfect for sensitive skin. · Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin This cleanser claims to target and skin that is -prone specifically, which are precisely the concerns that I have. It is very gentle on the skin because it has a soapless formula that leaves my skin feeling refreshed but not overly or ped of oil and moisture. I also love the scent, which is always a plus. This product is in a gel texture that foams up nicely when in contact with water, so I only need to use a little amount of the product every time. I could use this cleanser for several months, and given its price, I think it is very worth it product.

Oily / Acne-Prone Skin Deep Cleanse Routine
Every once in a while, it is important to do a deep cleanse for your skin to prevent sebum and dead skin build up that will lead to break outs and enlarged pores. It is like doing house cleaning, which is necessary for everyone regardless of your skin type. However, since my face produces a lot of oil, I tend to break out more, and I have developed a deep cleanse routine that really helped with alleviating my acne problems. Step 1 – Cleanse Product: Neutrogena (Deep Clean Facial Cleanser Normal to Oily Skin) Firstly, I need to get rid of all the dirt and impurities on the surface of my face to get into cleaning the deeper layers of my skin. I use this cleanser because it has a strong cleaning power that removes the oiliness of my face without stripping off the hydration. It is in a gel texture that lathers into foam. Step 2 – Exfoliate Product: Dermalogica (Daily Microfoliant) This step is to get rid of all the dead skin cells being built up on the face that are the main causes of rough skin, dullness and acnes. The product has become one of my favourite products because my skin feels much brighter and smoother every time after I have used it. It is in a white powder form and turns into foam when it touches water. Because it is meant to be a daily exfoliate, it is very gentle on the face, however, I would not recommend exfoliating every day because it will destroy your skin’s barrier, and I have noticed that my skin becomes more fragile and red if I use it too often. Step 3 – Detox Product: Estée Lauder (NightWear Plus 3 Minute Detox Mask) I always like to follow up with a clay mask that draws out impurities from deep under the skin and helps control the oiliness of my face. This visibly reduces black heads of my skin if I keep up with this routine regularly. This product smells like fresh cucumber, which I enjoy, and has a very cooling sensation on the face. What I like the most about this product compared to other clay masks is that it dries very quickly because it is so thin. It leaves me with a clearer and smoother skin just after 3 minutes, which is great for lazy people like me. Step 4 – Sooth & Hydrate Product: Avene (Eau Thermale Spring Water) I use this mist to add another layer of moisture before I lock everything in with a moisturiser and to sooth my skin after exfoliation. The mist spreads very evenly, covering every part of my face, and feels very refreshing and cooling. Step 5 – Moisturiser Product: La Roche Posay (Toleriane Sensitive Crème) Lastly, I will rehydrate myself with a thicker cream than I normally use that has soothing properties to comfort my skin after going through the hash cleansing steps before. My skin feels very hydrated, smooth and plump after I use this cream. Also, it is not too heavy on the skin, and has no scent.

My Acne Story: How Did I Clean My Skin
During my period, it is straightforward for me to have acne on my face, sometime could make the skin pain, dry and sensitive. Sometimes there are comedones on my face and then develops into blackhead and whitehead. The blackheads generate from excess oil and dead skin cells. I have oily t-zone, and the rest of my face is dry. It is why there is always blackhead on my nose and whitehead around my nose, making my skin look dirty and uncomfortable. In order to solve the problem, it is essential to clean the face thoroughly, heal the skin, and avoid dryness. · Eestēe lauder’s Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask ESTĒE LAUDER - Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask One of my favorite products to clean my face is estēe lauder’s Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask. It could use as a cleanser as well as a purifying mask. It can clean my face throughout without dryness. I applied this on my face and massage on my nose. After I cleanse, it leaves my skin soft and clean. It can remove the makeup, help reduce my acne, and use only a little amount to create a creamy soft foam. I also use it as a mask once a week. Apply a little bit and genteelly massage around my nose thoroughly. I can feel my blackhead start to disappear after a few weeks. It makes my skin clean and refreshed. · La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Duo Plus Anti-Imperfections moisturizer LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment I also use La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Duo Plus Anti-Imperfections moisturizer to help my acne. It is the perfect moisturizer for my combination skin, especially for my oily t-zone. It can help clean clogged pores and dead skin. After applying this, the spots and breakouts, redness and pores of my skin have reduced. My skin becomes clear and smoother. My acne scarring also disappears. The texture is light, not greasy, but can release the dryness of the skin.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo
The Effaclar Duo is a hydrating lotion. I enjoyed this product during the summer as it is a moisturizer and serum in one. These kind of products work well for my oily skin. It contains an active ingredient of 0.5% salicylic acid. The product comes in a squeeze tube. It has a gel consistency, absorbs easily into the skin. For winter times I use a hyaluronic acid, then the effaclar duo AND a moisturizer. I would not purchase this product again as I know my skin can tolerate more than 0.5% salicylic acid, my skin prefers 2%. The product was kindly gifted to me by the brand. Best Cleanser Awards to my favs!!
As the first step of skincare, the importance of cleansing should not be ignored. But there are so many cleansers with similar ingredients and uses and makes it hard to choose the right one (or ones). These three awards are for my favorite cleaners that stand out among all I have tried. Best Daily Acne Cleanser--Neutrogena Oil-free Acne Wash This cleansing gel for acne-prone skin contains salicylic acid, which is a perfect ingredient for me(I have oily skin) to unclog pores. Though there is pink grapefruit extract and it is pink indeed, it smells to me more like mango or pineapple but still like it. For me, it is not as drying as other so-called “acne-skin-friendly “cleansers that make you feel dry and stripped at all. I have used this for two weeks, and a little goes a long way especially with its gel-like texture. Feels really clean yet refreshing on the face and pretty worthy! Best Resurfacing Cleanser--NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash I have to say this cleansing foam is so powerful and strong and even not suitable for many. Before using this, I have tried NeoStrata Facial Cleanser and it was gentler than this foam. It has a large amount of glycolic acid (an AHA) and lactobionic acid (a BHA and also a strong antioxidant) to clean pores, remove dead skin, and prepare skin for optimal benefits of the following routine. I just use this every other day right now by building tolerance, and the result is quite obvious: my face got softer and smoother after each use. This foam is worthy for those with low potential for irritation to try to receive a much smoother skin. Best Exfoliating Cleanser--Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser This cleanser comes more directly with micro-particles to exfoliate skin. Compared to NeoStrata foam, this Clarins scrub cleanser simply exfoliates all dead skin without leaving any harsh feeling on face. It is easy to cleanse all excess oil on my face with this and wash away but not over-drying at all. The orange color and scent are very refreshing and soothing, and this has been my first step of mask ritual for a long time. Clarins has my heart.

Best Facial Cleansers Under $22
As a person with extremely oily skin, I make sure to use a cleanser day and night to get rid of sebum build up and dirt on my face to avoid breakouts. However, as cleansing is such a prominent part of my skincare routine, it is just not sustainable to keep spending a fortune on luxury, high-end brands for a product that doesn’t even stay on the skin for long but gets washed off instead. After years of searching and testing, I can confidently introduce two best budget cleansers that do a good job just as well: La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel and Nivea Clean Deeper Daily Wash Scrub · La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel（$21.99 / 200 ml） LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin This cleanser claims to target oily and sensitive skin that is acne-prone specifically, which are precisely the concerns that I have. It is very gentle on the skin because it has a soapless formula that leaves my skin feeling refreshed but not overly dry or stripped of oil and moisture. I also love the scent, which is always a plus. This product is in a gel texture that foams up nicely when in contact with water, so I only need to use a little amount of the product every time. I could use this cleanser for several months, and given its price, I think it is very worth it product. · Nivea Clean Deeper Daily Wash Scrub（$10 / 150 ml） NIVEA - Daily Essentials Clean Deeper Daily Face Wash Scrub It is an even cheaper product! It is one of the first cleansers that I had used when I was in middle school and has a minimal budget. I was pleasantly surprised by its effectiveness, considering its low price. However, Nivea is a great brand in general, and its products are usually quite useful. Moving onto this specific product, I love how it combines scrub with face wash because my oily skin tends to produce dead skin than other skin types. The little beads contained in the face wash help smooth my skin and provide a deep cleanse for my pores, preventing blackheads. However, this product tends to make my skin feel a bit dry afterward, so it’s essential to follow up with a moisturizer.
