Into clean, cruelty-free products!
3 new additions to my routine!
To be honest, I feel like I’ve fallen into a bit of a rabbit hole since joining this app. Can anyone relate? I keep buying new products and I have a bit of a stash going on. I don’t want to try every skin care product out there- I just want to find products that work well for me. It doesn’t help that my skin is so tricky. As far as I can tell, it’s combination- dry-sensitive. I also have to fight fine lines and large pores. It has not been my friend lately. It’s too early to rate these items- I’d like to give them more time to see how my skin reacts, but so far I’m happy. three ships - Purify Aloe + Amino Acid Cleanser This cleanser feels great on my skin and it is non- stripping. I’m not seeing much change in my skin yet (it’s been two days), but my skin is looking a little less dry and textured. This could be my imagination, but some of the pores close to my nose look smaller too. So much better than the FARMACY - BEE CLEAN which I wanted to love, but is way too drying for me. This one feels so much better! I have a feeling this will be a HG cleanser for me, but I’ll give it a month to see how it changes my skin. Mad Hippie - Mad Hippie Eye Cream This eye cream isn’t as hydrating as I’d like and I feel a bit of a tightening around my eyes when I apply it, as well as some extra eye crusties in the morning. I think this would be a good AM eye cream. I think I’d like to try a retinol eye cream at night to tackle my fine lines. Any recommendations? #Rocky Mountain Soap Company - Gua Sha[products]# I love this product so much. It may be a gimmick, but a nightly massage feels amazing, especially around my cheeks and jaw where I have a lot of tension. I use it with the Rocky Mountain Soap Co - Transformative Cleansing Oil as a last step before bed.
Natural sunscreen for the win!
I’ve been more conscientious about wearing sunscreen every day over the last year or so. The tricky thing is finding a physical sunscreen that works. These are my recent finds! Mad Hippie - Facial SPF, 30+ UVA/UVB Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen Pros: This one is really great. The ingredients are clean and it smells amazing. It’s a lotion consistency and once it absorbs, it does seem fairly light. This is my go to for under makeup. Cons: It’s not as hydrating as others and it does leave a white cast. Since I’m fair, it’s manageable. thinkbaby - Safe Sunscreen Pros: Smells great and very clean ingredients. The consistency is a thicker lotion. Cons: This one feels the heaviest on the face and made my (dry) skin too greasy. This is a great sunscreen for the summer, but not great under makeup. #Rocky Mountain Soap Company - Face and body sunscreen[products]#[FiveStars] Pros: Very clean ingredients and smells the best of the three (like a birthday cake). It is a very thick texture, almost like a paste, and it is tinted slightly to prevent a white cast. It feels very heavy going on, but it is very hydrating and light feeling when rubbed in. Cons: I put it on my eye area and it got into my eyes and irritated them. While this is my favourite of the three, I’ll either wear a different SPF around my eyes, or use it in the summer. Also, the thick texture makes it a little hard to judge how much to put on.

My experiences with Farmacy
I’d like to talk about two recent additions to my skin care routine. These are both good clean products and I recommend them, but I don’t plan to repurchase. First, I’ve tried FARMACY - BEE CLEAN It was recommended to me by a sales person at Sephora. This cleanser is great, but I think it’s a little too stripping for my dry blemish prone skin. I’ve been trying to overcompensate with other hydrating products, but my skin has felt a little rough. I think this is a great cleanser for combination skin or oily skin, but if it’s on the dry side, find something else. To try and bring some much-needed hydration into my skin, I’ve also been trying the FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask I think it’s pretty pricey for what you get, and I just didn’t get the skin softening effects I was hoping for. It’s not the miracle product I was hoping for, but it is a nice warming treatment and again, I’d recommend it for combination skin or oily skin. I did discover a new serum that’s been giving oh skin more glow and hydration. I will post about it next time. Thanks for reading!
Skin Journey Progress
I still have some acne here and there, but overall my skin has been more clear. My freckles are lightening, partly because it’s fall, and partly because of the vitamin c serum, and the AHA/BHA serum. I do have larger pores, but some of the “pores” it shows are freckles. I don’t love the dark circles. I have a new eye cream to try once I’m finished up the one I have. I think the wrinkles and fine lines look good. I’m 39, so I’m not expecting miracles. I’m integrating the EARTH HARBOR - SIREN SILK Multi-Tasking Hydration Cremeinto my routine. I’m using it on days where I don’t use the daily resurfacing peel from Beauty Counter, since the siren silk has sea retinol. This is my first experience with any type of retinol, so I’m excited to see how my skin does. I think it’s purging a bit right now since I have some extra pimples on my cheeks. The second photo is me with light coverage makeup. Don’t mind my hair in that photo. I was just letting it air dry. My current routine: Rocky Mountain Soap Co - Transformative Cleansing Oil Beauty Counter Coco Cream Cleanser Rocky Mountain Soap Co - Pomegranate Day Cream Beauty Counter Vitamin C serum Rocky Mountain Soap Co - Pomegranate Day Cream (Daytime, or at night when using the AHA/BHA resurfacing peel) Mad Hippie - Facial SPF, 30+ UVA/UVB Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen EARTH HARBOR - SIREN SILK Multi-Tasking Hydration Creme(on none resurfacing peel days) grace & stella - Hyaluronic Acid Serum (on none resurfacing peel days) Feedback on my routine is welcome!

You have to try this natural deoderant!
Update: Unfortunately, these worked really well in the beginning, but then they made me extra stinky. Won’t be a repurchase for me! I have moved on to another one which so far seems to be a game changer. I will post on it once I’ve used it longer, but 2 days in and I’m thrilled!NATIVE - Buttercream & French Vanilla Deodorant I’ve tried some other natural deodorants & the one I used more recently was alright, but I just got used to smelling my own natural scent more, and it seemed to be getting worse. I had heard so much about Native deodorant so I ordered some and I’m so happy I did! First of all, they smell great, and the scent is long-lasting, and they cover up any natural odour. I didn’t sweat while wearing these, but they are great for an everyday deodorant at least. I love the loco for coco scent so much, but it will be much harder to layer with other scents, including perfume. They only categorize it as a teen deoderant because of the scent and, as much as I love the smell of pina coladas, I kinda get why it may not be my go to scent. I absolutely love the buttercream vanilla and I’m bummed it’s a seasonal scent. Give it a try!

Earth Harbor First Impressions
I’ve been wanting to try Earth Harbor for a while, and I found these at the CauseBox Add-on Market for a steal, so I snapped them up. I know you’re supposed to introduce products one at a time, but I couldn’t resist giving them a try. All three are fragranced with essential oils, and the scents are pleasant. The peptide serum has a milky texture and it feels very rich going on. The siren silk moisturizer has a whipped texture and it feels really nice and hydrating. I noticed a bit of a tingle, but there wasn’t any irritation, and my skin is fairly sensitive. I didn’t put the eye cream on my eye area this time but did a patch test on the inside of my wrist. It also felt nice going on. I used these products before bed. My skin felt good in the morning, but I was hoping it would feel softer. I plan to use the Siren Silk as a night cream and use my favourite day cream in the day. I use a vitamin C serum from beauty counter in the morning. Does anyone know if I can layer it with the peptide serum? Final verdict: it’s too early to rate them, but so far I’m happy with these products. We’ll see how my skin reacts to them over time!
Purging Vs. Reaction
Have you ever introduced a new skincare product into your routine only to find yourself breaking out after? I certainly have! If you’ve ever visited r/SkincareAddiction on Reddit, you’ve probably seen this question A LOT: “Is this product making my skin purge?” or “Is this purging or breaking out?” It can be very tricky to tell the difference.
A Vegan’s Thoughts
Snail Mucin/Mucus is trending right now, so I thought this would be a good time to post some food for thought. They Show a Will to Live I don’t eat/use anything that has a will to live. Snails have a cute little shell, which is an indicator that they are actively protecting their bodies from harm to stay on this plant to procreate. I have a will to live too, and I don’t need to take a snail’s (or many snails) life to better my own skin. They Have A Nervous System Our nervous system allows for feelings of pain, and snails have a nervous system just like bees. Did you know people have giant snails as pets? They eat out of your hand, and even come to greet you! They’re lovable little creatures! Animal Relationships I like to reduce the act of taking something from a living being, and giving nothing in return. It seems pretty unfair to keep an animal around to only keep taking something from it that was not meant to be taken. The Process Apparently steaming and boiling the snails for their mucus is not used too often anymore (repeat: apparently). But it’s shown that the better the snails are kept and fed, the higher quality of the mucus. That tells me right there that if they were just in their natural habitat, they would be happier snails. The Use of Mucin over Mucus There is a reason why we call it mucin- because the words mucus or secretions gross people out- but that’s what it truly is! #staywoke This is why I’ll never use snail mucus for beauty gains. Now if we were taking life or death situation, it could be different. Just food for thought! Thank you for reading with an open mind. ♥️
Can you guess all 5??
In the oh-so confusing world of skincare, trendy ingredients come and go constantly! From snail mucus (which I LOVE btw) to CBD. But dermatologists tend to stick to a group of tried and true heavy hitters. Here is 5 of them. 💪🏻 Broad spectrum sunscreen— Technically a product but if you skip this there really is no reason to blow your $ on other anti-aging products. Sun exposure is one the the primary causes of all the signs of aging. Ceramides— Ceramides are lipids that keep your skin barrier strong and healthy and doing what’s it’s supposed to, dealing moisture in. Ceramides are also great for keeping irritants out so if you are prone to eczema, make sure you incorporate this into your routine. Glycolic Acid— Part of a group of acids known as alpha-hydroxy acids, this one is distinct in having the smallest molecular size, so it can penetrate deepest into the skin. Glycolic acid features the traditional exfoliating benefits of any AHA, gently dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells to improve skin texture, tone, and pore size. But glycolic acid also has another unique anti-aging benefit: It boosts levels of both collagen and elastin in the skin, so it can help ward off wrinkles, too. Note: if you have sensitive skin you should start out slow this glycolic acid because it can be irritating. Lactic Acid— A type of AHA derived from milk, and is generally gentler and less irritating than glycolic acid. It’s a common anti-aging ingredient in both mild in-office peels and many at-home exfoliating products, helping to leave skin more even and radiant. Plus, lactic acid has been shown to increase the natural moisturizing factors in the skin! Note: Lactic acid will make your skin more sensitive to the sun so make sure you wear your SPF. And the #1 heavy hitter..... Retinoids—They’ve been proven in study after study to encourage cellular turnover, stimulate collagen, help treat acne, soften wrinkles, fade pigmentation, and give the skin an overall youthful glow. Their existence to the skin care industry is what the Queen is to the world: royalty. Retinoids minimize the appearance of wrinkles, bolster skin's thickness and elasticity, slow the breakdown of collagen (which helps keep skin firm), and lighten brown spots caused by sun exposure. Retinoids are the one ingredient that has study after study and so much science backing them up. Retinoids first came to market in the early 1970s as an acne-fighting drug. Since then, they have also been used to treat psoriasis, warts, wrinkles and blotchiness caused by sun exposure, and aged skin. Retinoids work by prompting surface skin cells to turn over and die rapidly, making way for new cell growth underneath. They hamper the breakdown of collagen and thicken the deeper layer of skin where wrinkles get their start. It's not true that retinoids thin the skin. They typically cause peeling and redness in the first few weeks of use -- but they actually thicken the skin. The very best advice when you’re starting to use retinoids is start small and go slow. I will be posting a retinoid schedule soon
Repurchased Eye Cream
innisfree - Green Tea Seed Intensive Hydrating Eye Cream This eye cream is targeted to replenish dry under eye area, part of their Jeju Island line made of organic green tea leaves. It is rich in amino acids and minerals for intense hydration. It also corrects skin tone in the long run. The texture is quite thick gel, locks hydration in for quite some time, but sinks in eventually. I have recently finished my beloved Ole Hendriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme, and looking for replacement for an eye cream. Suddenly thought of this one, that I used to love so much. I have used it so much last year after a recommendation from my friend. Just repurchased this last week and after using I remembered how much I used to love this. It’s so nourishing and hydrating under the eyes. It doesn’t break me out and doesn’t feel burning either (one of my pet peeves with eye cream). I like how long the hydration feels on my undereye. I’d totally recommend this product to others, it’s worth the price and effort to use. It’s a mid-range priced eye cream that performs so well!

From Dry to Dewy - How I Got My Skin to Glow ❤️
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had dry skin and would try almost anything to get it hydrated. Nothing worked up until about 4 years ago. I didn’t have the heart to pick up just anything because I was so worried about my skin reacting badly to it. I didn’t want to just buy a product where it worked well on my skin while I was using it and if I stopped for a day, I would go back to having the Sahara Desert on my face and body. I’ve loved these 6 pairings together and it’s safe to say they are my absolute go-to’s for dry/sensitive skin! Yes altogether they may be spendy but they last me a very very long time (over 6 months or so). Let’s go over my skincare routine! 1. Cleansing I use an oil and a gel based cleanser. Oil first, massage into the skin for about 5 or so minutes, wash, and proceed with the gel cleanser. The type of formulas(gel/oil) are super dry skin friendly as the cleanse and hydrate without stripping the skin. These are the ones I use: TATCHA - Pure One Step Camellia Oil Cleanser YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Cleanser Refill 2. Essence For most, this can be an optional step. However, I found that placing an essence on my skin does contribute to the hydration and glow of my skin. Essence helps with the absorption of the products that come after, thus needing to use less of it. Yay for saving money! On its own, it does have its hydrating components too. After using TATCHA - The Essence Plumping Skin Softener I do feel my skin become softer. I take a half quarter size amount onto my hands and spread it onto my face.. 3. Serum I find that this is the most important type of product to have in your skincare routine. Serums are typically more concentrated and do the “bulk of the work” depending on what you want for your skin. I use one pump and spread it all over my face. A little goes a long way! I wanted to take care of my dark spots on my cheeks as well as gently exfoliating the dry skin or “gunk” out of the harder to clean areas on my face. I started using DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum about 2 years ago and it works great! My dark spots definitely lightened up a bit more and my pores are happy. I do alternate this serum with DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum so I don’t over-do on the acids/exfoliation. 4. Moisturizer Ahhhh the final step. I’ve been a die hard fan/lover of TATCHA - The Dewy Skin Cream THIS, my friend, improved my skin over-time when I didn’t get to know everyone else on this list. I use this once or twice a day. I take a fingernail sized amount and TAP (not rub!) it into my skin. Let 👏 me 👏 just 👏 say 👏 MY SKIN IS NOT THE SAHARA DESERT ANYMORE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😂❤️ I can wash my face and not go without moisturizer for a day without feeling like your dried out dishwashing sponge 🤣 Happy Skincaring!
