The Do’s and Don’ts for Oily, Acne Prone Skin
Knowing your skin type and skin condition is the first step to treating it. I personally have dehydrated yet oily acne prone skin. The right type of products in a routine can make a huge difference. *Disclaimer: I love all the products above except the Clinique toner (Dont use this please). I will explain below why things are good or bad for acne. Step 1: Cleanse Do - Use gel cleanser like the FARMACY - Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser . The gel formula will deep cleanse the face without stripping. Don’t - Use a cream cleanser like the GEORGETTE KLINGER - Green Tea Cream Cleanser . This is more geared towards dry skin. It will cleanse and hydrate but won’t give you the deep cleanse oily/acne prone skin needs. Step 2: Treat Do - Use a product with salicylic acid like PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliator . Salicylic acid is oil soluble and will dive deep into your pores breaking up any sebum or debris. Don’t - Use something with detnatured alcohol like the CLINIQUE - Clarifying Lotion 3 . It may feel good at first but the alcohol is stripping your skin and does more harm than good. In the end your face will over compensate for the stripping effect and produce more oil. Step 3: Moisturize Do - Use a gel moisturizer like the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair BarriAIR Cream Safe for Sensitive Skin . I love this because it is free of a lot of skin irritants like fragrance and dyes. The gel formula won’t feel too heavy on the skin but will give you all the hydration benefits you need. Don’t- Use a heavy, cream moisturizer like the Milk MAKEUP - Vegan Milk Moisturizer . Heavy creams are more geared for dry skin. For oily skin it will just sit on top potentially clogging pores (plus I do believe this has some comedogenic ingredients). These are basic steps I’ve been using for a while to make my skin routine the best is can be for my skin concern. Affordable Night Routine for Oily Skin
Here is my night routine! It is pretty similar to my morning routine(sorry about the cluster of products in the picture i tried my best to tag all the products). This a pretty affordable night routine for someone who used to deal with a lot of hormonal acne. Cetaphil - Daily Facial Cleanser Just like my morning routine, I use the Cetaphil cleanser. Sometimes i will use a bit more at night depending on if i wear makeup or not. Also i forgot to take a picture but to take off my makeup I use the GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Makeup Remover on a cotton pad. I try to stay away from makeup wipes and micellar water is super gentle! The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Again, just like my morning routine I use 2 drops of this after cleansing. I seriously recommend this product it’s cheap and very effective! Also make sure not to touch the dropper to your face! The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution So I am sure most people have heard of this amazing product. This is my 5th week using it and I can definitely see a difference in my skin! I use it once a week every Friday night. I skip the niacinamide because apparently it’s not good to mix these 2 in the same night/morning. I’m not sure if that’s backed up but just in case I skip this step every Friday night. I put 2 drops onto my fingers and gently spread it across my face. I make sure to avoid the eye area. Leave it on for 10 minutes and no longer. My scars have started to disappear and my skin feels incredible afterwards. I do also use a prescribed acne medication after this step just like my morning routine. I obviously can’t tag it but if you are struggling with acne and are able to, consider seeing a dermatologist! CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion This is by far my all-time favorite moisturizer! I use the ultra-lightweight one that’s oil-free. It doesn’t feel super heavy but makes me skin feel very hydrated and soft. I have never used any other night moisturizer because I know I will always come back to this one. ESTĒE LAUDER - DayWear Eye Cooling Anti-Oxidant Moisture GelCreme I then do eye cream. I’m not super picky when it comes to eye creams as long as they are not heavy. This product is kinda random when I got it but it definitely makes my eyes feel hydrated which is all I care about. Briogeo - B. Well Organic + Cold-Pressed 100% Castor Oil I cant say enough good things about this product. I started using it about a year ago on my eyelashes and eyebrows. I use a clean spoolie and my eyelashes have grown so long. I naturally have thick eyebrows but i will kinda run the excess on them. I still have my 1st bottle and I am surprised I haven’t run out yet since I use this every night. Any castor oil works but this one comes in a bottle!

Morning Skincare Routine for Oily Skin
I used to struggle with bad, hormonal acne about a year ago and I am so happy to have a morning and night routine that actually works for my skin! I have pretty oily skin and definitely still break out every now and then so it’s not perfect but much better than it was a year ago! Cetaphil - Daily Facial Cleanser (this is the one for normal to oily skin) I don’t use much but I use it morning and night! I have tried so many cleansers but I always come back to this one! I just wet my face and apply about a pump to my face and gently rub it in then wash off with water and PAT dry. Don’t rub the towel/cloth into your face it can be damaging and irritating. Cheap and works amazing! It is also not super over drying! The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I just started using this about a week ago so I can’t really say how much it’s done but so far I love it!! I also use it morning and night. I apply 2 drops into my hand(do not touch the dropper to your face) and gently PAT the serum into my dry face. Once it starts feeling tacky, I know it has settled into my skin. I only use 2 drops because a little goes a long way and you really don’t need more than that to cover your entire face. I do use a prescribed acne treatment morning and night so that has a lot to do with my skin clearing up. I use it right after this step and mix it in with my moisturizers since it won’t work on my dry face by itself. Neutrogena - Neutrogena Oil Free Facial Moisturizer Sunscreen I then use SPF which is super important to do in the morning. I don’t love this sunscreen but it’s the only one I have currently. I do want to try out the CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30once I have the chance to purchase it. I’m not super picky with my morning moisturizer as long as it doesn’t make my skin look greasy. Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Eye Gel-Cream I love this eye cream for the mornings since it is hydrating and if I do wear makeup, makes that go on easily. It’s also not heavy which is a big thing for me. I prefer gel eye creams over heavier creams.
