Avene moisturiser comparison
Avene moisturiser comparison
Photo comparing of the 2 creams are the tolerance extreme at the top and hydrance riche at the bottom. All three pics try and showcase the consistancy difference of both creams. Background of this review. I have 4 weeks into using prescription retinol “Epiduo” which has 0.1% Adapalene and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide My skin has tolerated epiduo amazingly. I started using it every night from the get go. My skin burned and was sensitive the first week and then chilled out. It is now dry looking especially under make up and so my concern is to hydrate hydrate hydrate! Prior to epiduo I had normal and acne prone skin. I now use epiduo as my last step in my nighttime skincare routine. Avène - Tolérance Extrême Cream This product comes in air right packaging and is light enough in consistency to use in the day. It is the least fragranced among the three and is very hydrating. Comparatively to the hydrance Riche cream it is more “watery” in consistency and is more whiter. It doesn’t spread as evenly as the riche cream but I feel is more “soothing” in a way. Due to its watery texture I feel it penetrates slightly deeper. Avène - Hydrance Rich Hydrating Cream This is similar to the tolerance extreme créme. It does the same thing to the skin however has a different vehicle. It’s more lotion based and blends into the skin more evenly. A more aesthetically better vehicle. It has a stronger “fragrance” to it however the fragrance is like baby powder scent which is a scent that means it doesn’t have fragrance 😅 Out of these 2 I honestly could recommend both. The extreme has more air tight packaging and watery texture. The riche cream is more lotion based and is also just as good. Both do the job and both are hypoallegenic. Both hydrate very well especially for “prescription skin” If I had to choose I would go extreme just due to that watery texture being able to penetrate deeper. And is better suited for bigger pores which I have around my nose area. Also airtight packaging is better. Avène - Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream This is the thicker and more different cream. It still goes nice and thin as you spread it over your face and doesn’t leave a big white cast for me any my skin tone. This is great for all over the skin when I’m really dry or just over areas where I’m really dry. E.g just under eyebrows, eyelids, around mouth. I would definitely recommend this as a “pick me up” hydration if you feel you need a product that can boost your already hydrating routine. Or if you don’t have a hydrating routine and you need something for bedtime. I personally used this at night all over my face and spot treat in the morning if I need. Hope this helps anyone who is trying to find the best moisturiser from the brand 😊

Fave or meh?: Glow Recipe
Fave or meh?: Glow Recipe
Glow recipe is a clean beauty brand, which uses natural ingredients, cruelty free and free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates and also take care of the environment. It has simple and very beautiful packaging. I have used some of their products and I think some are worth it and others not so much. GLOW RECIPE - Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser MEH Price: $10 for 30 ml. Texture: lightweight gel. Scent: fruity floral. It’s a gentle cleanser and deep clarifying mask that cleanses the skin without drying it, helps minimize pores and combat blemishes and breakouts. Leaves skin soft, fresh and clean. It can be used as a cleanser or as a mask (with dry skin apply a generous layer and leave it for 5 minutes). It is not my favorite cleanser, but the mini is a good option to take on the road. GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist FAVE Price: $28 for 75 ml. Texture: ultra fine mist. Scent: watermelon. I love the smell of this mist, it is light and refreshing. Leaves my skin feeling so hydrated but not sticky. I have tried many, even with the same ingredient, but this one made the difference since it doesn’t cause irritation or burning. Softens, refreshes and brightens the skin leaving natural dewy glow. It is definitely a product that I would buy again. GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Pink Juice Oil-Free Moisturizer MEH Price: $39 for 60 ml. Texture: lightweight gel. Scent: watermelon. It is a light moisturizer, formulated with watermelon extract, hyaluronic acid and peony and jasmine to boost radiance and glow. It absorbs quickly and gives long-lasting hydration, smells wonderful and doesn’t irritate my skin. I think it is an excellent choice for combination skin. It’s good but not my favorite. GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Face Mask MEH Price: $42 for 15 ml. Texture: rich cream. Scent: fruity. Use slow-release encapsulated retinol to minimize the risk of irritation, it also contains niacinamide and squalane. I didn’t notice a change in dark circles, but it did improve hydration and loss of firmness. This sample lasted approximately 3 months, I would not buy the full size for the price and few results. GLOW RECIPE - Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream FAVE Price: $39 for 50 ml. Texture: lightweight cream. Scent: banana. It’s a lightweight moisturizer that doesn’t clog pores that hydrates and calms the skin. I don't usually use cream, but there are occasions in the year when my skin gets a little dry, so I decided to try it. It smells like a banana candy (laffy taffy), it is very lightweight but hydrates very well. My dryness disappeared from the first application, a little goes a long way, absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a sticky feeling. I would repurchase. My skin type: combination. Skin concern: dullness, dry skin, pores, fine lines.

Skincare Truths from an Esthetician
Skincare Truths from an Esthetician
One of the first things my teacher harped about was the importance of checking the ingredient list on products! Some brands (even from Sephora) are marketing-based, not fact or science-based. I’m not going to sit here and tell you what brands to avoid, but in this post I will touch on the ingredients that you should avoid while purchasing any sort of skincare. Sulfates (SLS) ex- sodium laureth sulfate. Sulfates strip the skin of its natural moisture and the skin’s acid mantle (protective barrier- more on that in a diff. post) which irritates the skin more. And by disrupting our natural moisture levels and the acid mantle we are throwing of the natural pH of the skin (4.5-5.5). Fragrance -also stated as Perfume or Parfum. Fragrance in skincare products is the biggest cause of contact dermatitis (red, itchy, sometimes inflamed rash). Fragrance includes most, but not all essentials oils. When fragrance is present in a product, companies will “disguise” it by using the scientific name. For example, lavender extract is lavandula angustifolia on ingredient lists. With that being said, you never truly know what is in a fragrance and it can vary from brand to brand. The FDA doesn’t require listed fragrances to be specific as to what’s really in it. Watch out, because some brands will not have “fragrance” or “parfum” listed, they will just have the scientific name of the fragrance. Most commonly found in: cleansers, toners, creams. Parabens ex- methylparabens, butylparabens, propylparabens. Parabens are a preservative to increase the shelf-live of products. Parabens have been linked to reproductive and fertility issues among women and has also shown links to breast cancer as this preservative can interrupt hormonal balance within the body. Most commonly found in: cleansers (mostly milky cleansers), and face masks. If you found this helpful and would like to hear more on ingredients to avoid, let me know😊

My Skincare Story: Eczema +
My Skincare Story: Eczema +
Over the years, I’ve dealt with acne and dry skin, but in the more recent years, nothing has affected me, in terms of my skin, like eczema and the resulting infections!!! Staph anyone? From November 2017 to August 2018, I’ve had bouts of the worst flare ups in my life. Let me just say, that period of time has probably been the hardest period of my life: I got into a car accident, I’ve got into a few gut-wrenching emotional fights with people, and the worst thing of all, my father passed away... while I was still finishing university. I had to miss 2 weeks of classes due to my skin condition because it was painful to move when the eczema was on my body from head to toe 🤕 To say that I was under a lot of stress is an understatement. Eczema is still a pretty mysterious health issue to most, but the health community is being very adamant about finding its different root causes. One thing for sure, it’s definitely not just something that appears on your skin “just because.” I believe that my skin was expressing all of the ways I was feeling. Stress literally compromises the skin barrier with stress hormones like cortisol. It was also hard to take care of myself, I began eating a lot of fried foods, so my gut was impacted by “leaky gut” syndrome where I developed many food sensitivities. Finding some of these answers through research, many appointments with various health professionals, and self exploration, I have hope that eczema isn’t something that I’ll have to deal with forever. Though I still deal with some eczema flare ups from time to time, it’s never completely out of control like the ones displayed in the pictures. I’m still finding ways to heal myself, as it isn’t linear, but in the meanwhile my favourite eczema management product is purO3 - Ozonated Olive Oil (only a 4 ⭐️ because it’s smelly!! I wouldn’t wear this on a date or out n about) Ozonated olive oil is a one-ingredient saviour that has great skin healing properties. It reduces inflammation, kills Staphylococcus aureus infections, and aids in quicker repair of the skin. I start seeing results within days of using it. You can also use this product orally (gum infections), to heal wounds from cuts and bug bites, as spot treatment for acne, etc. It even helps reduce hyperpigmentation scars from eczema and acne!!! 🎉 let’s just say this is my staple, like some would claim coconut oil.

“A gentle, PHA- and BHA-infused watermelon toner that hydrates skin and minimizes the appearance of pores” performance | full star | gotta give it to ‘em simply for the fact they they say minimizes the APPEARANCE of pores. Yeah pores don’t actually be changing size, but they can appear lil’ when they don’t have a bunch of nasty’s in them. Literally my new favorite toner though, no burning/tingling sensation and thicc enough to pour into your hand texture | full star | Stan with this texture, as I said above you can plop some right into your hand, makes it easier to pat into skin & no need to waste a cotton pad scent | full star | I am stunned at how bomb this smells! Herbal & fruity, but not the artificial watermelon (yes I’m calling you out jolly ranchers) packaging | full star | the grooves in the bottle make it much easier to hang on to, def need as a clutzy b. Plus the pink top is cute af annnnd the bottle looks real cute wit a single stem flower in it, or two if you really wanna live ingredients | .65 star | there is super subtle fragrance in there, but everything else is all good, especially that cactus water to make it thicc value | .75 star | $34 is a little on the higher end for toner, but honestly worth it with how amaze this product is Total 5.4 out of 6 stars

What Causes Acne and What Puts You at Risk for It?
Acne is among the most prevalent skin conditions in the world, with roughly 50 million cases in the United States alone. Although this disorder is most likely to impact teens, it can also affect adults—and it’s more likely to manifest in women.
