Hello friends! For the past several months, I’ve been searching high and low for a drugstore dupe for Milk MAKEUP - Hydro Grip Primer. You see, I really like the “grip” aspect of this primer, especially for under a mask. But overall, I didn’t care for the primer in general, especially since it seemed to dry out my skin. It also did this really weird thing, where it pilled up into little balls on my skin almost every time I used it, regardless of how I prepped my skin. It was super annoying and made me never want to use it.I wasn’t willing to pay $30 for a primer that was mediocre and hard to use, in my opinion. I knew there had to be a more affordable option that didn’t pill up and dry my skin out. So the hunt began! First, I tried the NYX - Bare With Me Hydrating Jelly Primer . This was my least favorite out of the bunch. It retails for $17 for 1.41 oz. This primer has a unique texture, just like jelly. It feels really refreshing on the skin and doesn’t feel too sticky. However, this doesn’t really have that “grip” quality I’m searching for. I feel like this honestly didn’t do much for me. It wasn’t bad nor great, just kind of “meh.” I wouldn’t really recommend this to anyone, since it doesn’t seem to do much. For this price tag, you can find a million better primers. Next, I tried the e.l.f. - Jelly Pop Dew Primer . This retails for $10 for 1.01 oz. I think this primer feels the most like the Milk one out of all of them. It has the same consistency and texture. It’s super sticky which really does make your foundation grip. It doesn’t create any pilling either, which is awesome. I think this is an amazing dupe. However, just as with the Milk primer, I find this a tad drying. It’s not as bad as Hydro Grip, but it’s certainly not hydrating, which is odd since it has hydrating ingredients. I think anyone looking for an almost spot on dupe for Hydro Grip would like this. I love to use it on days when I know I’ll be wearing my mask a lot because it keeps everything in place for hours. Although it’s a bit drying on my skin, I would still highly recommend this. Lastly, I tried the HARD CANDY - Hydrating Primer Hydrating Primer . This retails for $6.96 for 1 oz. Boy oh boy, do I love this primer. So, this is not an exact, spot on dupe for Hydro Grip. It’s not nearly as sticky. BUT, this still does grip makeup pretty well, just not as intense as the Hydro Grip or the Elf primer. I think this is the perfect, everyday gripping primer. Even under masks it works well. My favorite part of this primer is that it’s hydrating! It doesn’t dry my skin out one bit, just leaves my skin hydrated and ready for foundation. This doesn’t pill either, which is awesome. To me, this is the perfect amount of grip and hydration and at such an affordable price tag! I would definitely recommend! There ya have it: my dupes for Milk’s Hydro Grip.
