Skincare Trends of 2020: Yass 👍 or Pass 👎?

Hey there! There have been numerous skincare trends that have been going viral this year. Although just because it’s trendy, doesn’t mean it’s effective. ☆ ANTI-POLLUTION If you live in a city, you’re likely exposed to all types of pollution such as free radicals, UV exhaust fumes and even blue light screens are part of the problem (source: HuffPost). I live in San Francisco, CA and definitely deal with the issues mentioned above especially pre-covid. Studies have shown that those who live in larger cities age faster than their suburban counterparts and there is a correlation between air pollution and suffering from skin problems. DE’s D-bronzi and c-firma claim to fight against these issues. •C-Firma contains 15% l-absorbing acid and 1% Vitamin E which create a hardworking complex that help neutralize pollution and environmental stressors (source: byrdie). This product is one of my HG and I use this religiously. I have seen improvements regarding scars and hyperpigmentation and I think the anti-pollution effect is just a bonus •D-Bronzi contains raw cocoa powder which mimic the antioxidant benefits of vitamin D without the damaging effects of UV rays. I am not convinced this will do more than your typical tinted moisturizer with skincare ingredients. However I do love this product especially during the summer time. This also help me darken my foundation needed. • I love how my favorite skincare products contain anti-pollution protection, but I’m not convinced simply because there hasn’t been enough research. I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy products specifically for anti-pollution purposes. ☆ANTI BLUE LIGHT •My tinted sunscreen from Elta MD contains ingredients that can potentially protect the skin from blue light damage. •I honestly don’t agree with the anti- blue light hype. Research show that dermatologists are not fully convinced that blue light protection products will do more than a mineral sunscreen with a strong dose of iron oxide. NIACINAMIDE + HYALURONIC ACID •Both of elta and supergoop sunscreens I own contain Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. •HA has been proven to plump, moisturize the skin and niacinamide has a ton of benefits to the skin. It strengthens the skin’s barrier allowing it to hold moisture better for prolong hydration •I am on board with the HA and niacinamide trend. Research shows that both of these ingredients are beneficial to the skin. Long story short, I am not on board with anti-pollution and anti- blue light skincare products simply because not enough research has been done. However, skincare products that contain hyaluronic acid and niacinamide is a different story! I believe those two ingredients are definitely worth the hype! If you made it this far, congratulations because I know that was a lot. Thank you for reading :) Francesca 💋 #CheriePartner

Does hyped means good?
“Instagram Faves” I am sure I am not the only one who sometimes end up buying few products because of the hype about them on IG even tho we may not have bought them otherwise. Guilty? I know. @purito Centella sunscreen ☘️ SPF 50+ PA++++ ☘️ Contains Centella - Helps in calming the irritated skin ☘️ Good for all skin types ☘️ No Fragrance ☘️ No white Cast ☘️ Moisturizing- may be too thick for oily skin types if used over moisturizers. Can be used in place of moisturizer as well Price - $20CAD for 60ml My Experience:- > Amazing product at great price value > Moisturizing - Great for winters > Can be too thick sometimes if you are using many layers of other products underneath > Do not prefer this for hot summer days - make me sweat a lot ?? Anyone? Would I repurchase? No. I prefer my elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen over this. I like this too but the reason it make me sweat a lot is annoying and I don’t like that. @drunkelephant C-Firma Vitamin C serum 🍊Contains L-ascorbic acid (purest form of Vit C) 🍊Helps brightening and fading dark spots 🍊 Helps fading post acne marks 🍊 Contains Antioxidants such as Ferulic acid 🍊 Fragrance free and essential oils free Price :- $115CAD for 30ml My Experience:- > I saw results after using it consistently for 2 months > Helped in fading my post acne scars > it does oxidize quickly, needs to be refrigerated > One bottle lasted me long time over 4 months > It does have tacky feeling to it, but I used it over my hyaluronic acid serum that helped to lessen the tackiness. Would I repurchase? It is an expensive product but I do see the results after using it consistently. I would consider repurchasing in future. (On sale🙃)

Why does everyone hate on these products? 💙😥
Now I have been sampling different vitamin C serums for a while, and I have been loving the C Firma from Drunk Elephant! Now I will admit the smell is a little off putting and it is sticky (what serum isn’t though?!) but wow my skin has never been brighter! I personally use this in combination with the B Hydra to make it less sticky and add some extra hydration. As someone with dry skin, I love this combo! I also think you get more out of the product. Will I be repurchasing - Both, yes. I like how they work together and I am seeing great results. I would never recommend these products on their own, but as a combo I would. This being said, please share your vitamin C recommendations below as I am considering changing due to the stickiness and smell. *Disclaimer - I do not support Drunk Elephant in the ways they treat not only their staff, but also their customers.*

The Trunk 4.0🎪🐘
🎪DRUNK ELEPHANT - The Trunk 4.0 This kit comes fully stocked with everything you need for a truly complete skincare routine & a swift getaway! 🛩☁️ I wouldn’t travel right now, even if you paid me. Covid numbers aren’t going down & I take these facts very seriously. Haven’t had contact with almost anyone since March, because I do have a neurological disease that could put me at risk. I can’t tell anyone what to do... but do I urge you to consciously protect strangers while protecting yourself & your loved ones. My condition is one often referred to as an “Invisible Illness”. Many people have health conditions that others don’t outrightly see. Most people think I’m completely able-bodied unless I’m seen limping or having convulsions. I’ve only had this condition since 2014, so it’s been an adjustment & learning experience for my own prejudgements as well. 🧳My bf really likes the Monos locking suitcase & encouraged me to purchase this while the big Sephora sale was going on. He has to travel for his essential-work sometimes & this is a perfect carry-on size! It’s just as wide & deep as the ‘Monos Carry-On’ ($293) & only 4” shorter. specs: 18” high x 14” wide x 9” deep. Monos describes their Carry-On as: Designed to comply with the size restrictions of as many airlines as possible, & fits in the overhead bin of nearly any flight. So I think this slightly shorter rolling suitcase would 99% likely be accepted as a carry-on. 💚Really impressed with the quality! Its lightweight but well structured, great features/compartments + an antibacterial laundry bag. I’m totally new to Drunk Elephant, but I wanted to try their L-Ascorbic Acid serum, Glycolic Acid serum & the Babyfacial🍼🐘 I also want to start using a gentle retinol. Those 4 products alone would have been $324! With my Rouge discount: $360! Regular price is $450- You get 10 full size products, 3 minis +5 sample packets. 18 different things to try! ➖Which would you like me to review first?➖ 🐘I want to trial everything before I review! Here’s everything w/sizes & individual cost: #Drunk Elephant - Beste no.9 Jelly Cleanser[products]#$32/5 oz DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. AM Routine ☀️
I love reading about everyone's routines, so here is my AM Routine! I use a mixture of products from my Esthetician (Dermaki Skincare, can be found at www.dermaki.com) and drug/beauty store products. I am always looking to add things or find new products, I am currently looking for a great moisturizer! If you have any suggestions for those please share 🖤 AM Routine ☀️ #DERMAKI Skincare - Acne Cleanser[products]#[FiveStars] is a Sulfate, Paraben, Fragrance and Harsh Chemical Free cleanser that features Zinc Oxide,Green tea,Hops Flower targets stressed skin, wrinkles, & blemishes, & Tamanu Oil. This cleanser is low foaming, but really makes my face feel clean without over drying! FARMACY - Deep Sweep 2% BHA Pore Cleaning Toner an alcohol free toner that gently exfoliates, cleans pores, & controls oil. I have been using this toner for 2 weeks now, the first week only in the PM but now I use it in the ☀️&🌚. I love the way it makes my skin feel and it doesn't burn or tingle. I had some scabby spots from blemishes and it gently lifted the scabs, that was amazing! I also love that the bottle is glass! #DERMAKI Skincare - Acne Mist[products]#[ThreeStars] is a spray containing Copaiba, Buchu, Tamanu & Oil of Oregano to prevent and heal breakouts. I do enjoy this spray, especially for bacne! it worked wonders before my wedding day! I feel thought that I could use a product a little stronger for my hormonal acne. This is good for "everyday maintenance" ! #Rodan+Fields - Active Hydration Bright Eye Complex[products]#[FiveStars] an illuminating gel that helps reduce the look of dark circles & under eye puffiness. I truly love this eye cream! I am a former R+F consultant and I can honestly say that they have some great products. However, I would love to find an eye cream that works just as well but is a little nicer to my wallet 😜 belif - The True Cream Aqua Bomb Wow! This cream is legit. You can FEEL the hydration upon application! It's lightweight but definitely helps keep up skins hydration levels...Even in 27° weather! I'm in love. Also the packaging is recyclable! ♻️ elta md SKINCARE - UV Daily Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 Probably the best standalone sunscreen I have ever used. I made the switch from a moisturizer/SPF combo because the eltaMD had a high SPF than the combo. I'm glad I did! This sunscreen is great for acne prone skin because it contains Niacinamide. It's very lightweight and the light tint evens out skin tone. It also comes in a clear version. Let me know your thoughts? Any advice on a Moisturizer, Acne treatment for hormonal acne, or a brightening eye cream would be greatly appreciated! 🖤🌛 Riss

Acne/ Sensitive skin and Sunscreen Tips
I wanted to share a few tips about sunscreen that made a major difference in my skin. This is meant for sensitive and acne prone skin. I find I breakout less if I use a regular moisturizer without SPF first then layer my SPF after. I prefer a tinted sunscreen that doubles as a primer. My top two are CōTZ - Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40 or elta md SKINCARE - UV Daily Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 If you want just a regular sunscreen ensure you use a mineral sunscreen. Stay away from the ones with ate in the name. you can check this site to find out if your sunscreen is fungal acne friendly here: https://www.skincarisma.org/collections/jackofart-folliculitis-safe-products-recommended-by-f-c

Daytime skin care routine!
I like to keep my daytime routine super simple. First I wash my face with YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser which is I find perfect for my combination skin! Non stripping but yet still makes my skin feel clean. SUMMER FRIDAYS - CC Me Vitamin C Serum I’ve used this for almost 2 months. I only rated it a 3 star because honestly I don’t see it making a huge change in my skin. It does brighten and help with dullness a little. but I don’t see a change in my dark spots. I will use this up but I wouldn’t be re buying it. I’m personally just not a huge fan of it. GLOW RECIPE - Banana Soufflé Moisture CreamI recently just got this hence why I didn’t rate it! It smells amazing just like bananas. It’s nice medium thickness moisturizer. So far I don’t find it super thick on my skin and it doesn’t make my t zone look oily. From what I’ve tried I’d rate it a 4 star. I don’t think this will be enough moisture for me once winter comes but I do think this will perfect for summer. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I love this sunscreen doesn’t make my face feel oily and doesn’t break me out. Also I love using this under makeup. If you don’t like siliconey feels then i don’t think you’d like this.

Let’s talk SPF
I had received Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 in one of my birch boxes. I finally ran out of my other sunscreen I was using. I love the way this feels on my skin. It dries down quickly. It feels almost powdery on the skin, which I don’t mind. As someone with sensitive skin, this doesn’t irritate my skin. Also the product is clear. The product claims it can be used as a makeup primer. I haven’t used it as such, so if you have let me know how it worked out. I only gave it a 4/5 because a full sized bottle is almost $50 which for me is a bit pricey for a sunscreen. So a little update: I’ve been using this for a week. This is the minimum amount of time before I’ll review something, you know to either have it start working or see if my skin will react. I know, I know I should be patch testing before anyone says anything. After a week of use my skin started itching and breaking out like nothing I’ve seen before. Thank god it came in a sample size in a birch box because I would have been slightly annoyed if I purchased this for $45 and my skin reacted this way. I’ll be passing this on to someone who can use it. Any suggestions on a new sunscreen?

Drunkelephant famous SPF’s in UK ! ❤️
Drunkelephant famous SPF’s in UK ! ❤️
drunkelephant famous SPF’s in UK ! ❤️ I obviously had to get my hands on one of them; I chose Umbra Tinte because it has a tint and I knew I would prefer it more than Umbra Sheer, and I was right about it. (Umbra Sheer left a white cast on my skin) I love mixing it with a drop of my beloved D-Bronzi for a glowy, bronzy finish. I find it very moisturising, to the point where I don’t need a moisturiser underneath. I’m so happy it also doesn’t affect my foundation, doesn’t make me oily or irritate my skin. I also found I need to use less foundation because the Umbra Tinte and D-Bronzi just evens out my skin tone to the point where I could just use a little bit of concelear and I’m done 😃 The best method of application, for me, was to pat it on my skin instead of rubbing it, which may cause some pilling.

How do I Best protect my skin from UV damage?
How do I Best protect my skin from UV damage?
Okay, so we know that UV rays from the sun can damage and age our skin, so what do we do? We wear SPF! This one from Skinceuticals is my new favourite. It’s incredibly lightweight, non greasy, finishes without a white cast and has ample amount of mineral (better for the skin and environment) coverage. So we need to wear this everyday. Yes, even when it’s cloudy, or raining or wintertime! That sun will still get ya and you’ll get wrinkles and age spots. We know to wear SPF everyday now. So how can we improve this protection even more? In comes VITAMIN C!! This vitamin when used topically is a power antioxidant that fights off oxidative stress and damage from free radicals. It also brightens, lightens and tightens, so it’s a superstar. Basically these together work to protect your skin from the sun because of their ability to fight those free radicals and UV says from our most loved and hated sun. The C E Ferulic serum from Skinceuticals is the golden serum since it’s effectiveness is unlike any other. It’s L Ascorbic acid, vitamin e and ferulic acid which are all antioxidants to fight against aging and dull akin. This serum stinks, but it works so beautifully and has a cult status for a reason. Currently my main concern is that I have hyperpigmentation from post acne, so protecting my skin from further damage is ESSENTIAL!! I have dry skin too so I need to be careful i don’t dry it out, but these two work really well with my other hydrating products. SPF and vitamin c can fit into any morning routine easily. Luckily I discovered Skinceuticals after I received the best PR package from them and now I’m hooked!! I have been using the hydrating B5 serum SKINCEUTICALS - Hydrating B5 Gel too to really make sure I don’t dry out. Stay young friends ✌🏻

B Hydra/ Umbra Sheer
B Hydra/ Umbra Sheer
These two Drunk Elephant products are ones that I didn’t think I loved right off the bat but they grew on me and now I use them pretty regularly. Especially B Hydra I love now for it’s lightweight gel like texture and ability to hydrate without leaving me greasy feeling. This has : Pro Vitamin B5 Pineapple ceramides Sodium hyaluronate Watermelon rind/apple/lentil extracts All of these help to attract moisture, increases luminosity and brightness in skin and help to improve the barrier function of skin. Usually I am perfectly fine only using this as my daytime moisturizer maybe mixed with a little cream if I’m feeling extra dry or like I need a bit more like during winter. Summer this is perfect for my oily skin. Umbra Sheer is a sheer physical sunscreen that works well, only thing I don’t love about it is that it kind of leaves a white cast on my skin so I definitely don’t think it would be best for darker skin tones. I’m pretty light and I still notice it especially in photos. But on the go I like to keep the minis with me so I can apply when I am out and about. Raspberry seed and Marula oils make this moisturizing at the same time as it protects.

Today I wanted to share a suns
Today I wanted to share a sunscreen and vitamin c serum I've been using from the brand Cal pharma, a cruelty free and paraben free brand. 🐰 The C15 plus antioxidant serum. It's a lovely vitamin c serum and I've enjoyed this one alot. It has a light citrus scent to it. It's made from a super stable form of Vitamin C that penetrates to the active layers in order to provide maximum effect. According to leading dermatologists, Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that stimulates collagen production and helps to reduce signs of aging by repairing the damage done by free radicals and the sun. I've also been loving their ultra clear daily skin hydrator mineral based broad spectrum spf 50. It's lightweight which I appreciate. It doesn't feel greasy on the skin at all. I also love that it's water resistant for 80 mins. Plus I love that it has no fragrance in it at all. It's been a great daily sunscreen for me.

Best Sunscreen: Innisfree, 3W Clinic, Vaseline?
Best Sunscreen: Innisfree, 3W Clinic, Vaseline?
I have combination skin that tends to develop dark spots. I also suffer from dullness, so I always try my best to make my skin as bright as possible. Obviously, this also means using sunscreen whenever I’m outside. I’ve tried out three different sunscreens so far and here are my thoughts about them! The first one I want to talk about is Vaseline - Healthy White SPF 30 PA++ Serum which is technically a body serum but is also used as a sunscreen. It has SPF30 PA+++ and promises “flawless skin all over”. What I like the most about it is that it has a water-based formulation that is very lightweight and non-greasy. In fact, I don’t really feel anything when I have this on my face, which is a major plus. Lastly, I bought this for only $3 for 70ml, a really affordable price for a good product. The second one I tried is 3W CLINIC - Intensive UV Sunblock Cream It has SPF 50 PA++++, almost twice as much as Vaseline’s. It contains aloe extract and arbutin, two ingredients that can soothe and brighten tired skin. The formulation is also non-greasy, although if you compare it to Vaseline’s, it’s a lot heavier and you can definitely feel it on your skin. I also had to use powder more often with this on since it triggered my oily areas. This is also fairly cheap at $6 for 70ml. The third one, and the one I’m currently using now, is innisfree - Innisfree Intensive Long Lasting Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ This is actually one of three variants, the other two being Intensive Triple Care and Intensive Anti-Pollution. I chose this variant because I’m not a fan of re-application, if I have to reapply something I’d probably just forget it. Similar to 3W Clinic’s, it also has SPF 50+ PA++++. It’s not as lightweight as Vaseline’s but it’s definitely less sticky than 3W Clinic’s. It also doesn’t make me oily. Sadly, it’s the most expensive of the three, costing me roughly $13 for 50ml. If I were to rank these three, I’d say Innisfree goes first, followed by Vaseline, then 3W Clinic. That said, I still actually use all three! I use Vaseline on my body since it’s really cheap. Innisfree is the best but it’s quite expensive, so I only reserve it on days that I want to use makeup. If I’m just going to the beach or if I’m planning to play sports, I use 3W Clinic instead. What about you, what’s your favorite sunscreen? Have you tried any of these options? Let me know in the comments below!

Bronzey glow + antioxidant pro
Bronzey glow + antioxidant protection? ☀️ The sun’s seriously scorching here at the moment and while I already obsessively douse myself with SPF 50, today I thought I’d ramp up the skincare protection with a dose of my drunkelephant D-Bronzi. Full of antioxidants to help shield my vampire skin, this bronze-coloured concentrate is happily also ideal for mixing with face oils/moisturisers/spf/foundation for a pretty yoga skin look; perfect for a laid-back selfcare day.
