Skincare Ingredients 101 ✅
I have sensitive combination skin that is acne-prone and these are ingredients that my skin LOVES! We see them a lot on labels but what do they do and how should we use them? 🍊 Vitamin C 🍊 Vitamin C is awesome for brightening skin and helping with acne scars. Vitamin C also is great for its ability to even out skin tone and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Research shows this ingredient can shield skin from visible impacts of environmental stressors, including free radical damage. 🔑 The key to using Vitamin C is making sure you use an SPF with it as the last step in your morning routine. Vitamin C can make your skin more prone to the sun’s rays so I’ve heard of people using it at night but for me because it fights free radicals, I love it for the daytime. Additionally, it’s important to note that some Vitamin C products have very short shelf lives. My favorite is currently the very stable Vitamin C found in the Leah Skin Rose + Glow Oil. It’s a clean and cruelty-free facial oil with a Vitamin C that lasts! Some expire as quickly as 3 months due to oxidation which makes the product less effective but the type in this product is good for a year! I also love Farmacy’s Vitamin C Serum. ❤️ Retinol ❤️ Retinol is a product that comes in many forms but is essentially great for skin cell turnover. This can help with fine lines because of this but is essentially a wonderful ingredient for acne because it speeds up that turnover process. For me, this means my breakouts heal faster and it prevents them too. 🔑 Retinol should be slowly incorporated into your skincare routine. I started with it once per week to start. It can initially cause purging, or seemingly more breakouts, which can last up to a few weeks depending on your skin and that’s ok. Stick with it as your skin cleans itself out because eventually it will be once of your favorites for preventing breakouts. You’ll gradually build up use with retinol. I personally like to pair with a heavier moisturizer like Healing Ointment by CeraVe and they’re an awesome pair. I recommend using retinol at night because the sun’s rays can make this less effective. I try to not mix too many actives on my face at once and Vitamin C and retinols do not always mix well and can irritate the skin. By having them applied at different times of day, you give your skin multiple perks over a long period of time. ✨Ceramides✨ Ceramides are fats found in high concentrations in the upper layers of skin. Aging and sun damage reduce the effectiveness of your skin’s natural ceramides which weakens your skin’s barrier. This can result in redness, irritation and dryness. Adding them helps your skin’s barrier and increases hydration which gives you plumper skin with less visible lines and fewer signs of sensitivity. 🔑 I love to have these in my moisturizers. After I cleanse, while my skin is still wet, I use a serum and then a moisturizer with Ceramides. It’s THE best. LEAH - ROSE+GLOW FACIAL OIL

Ok guys if you been following me my bumps are starting to dry up and now I have dark spots. My right side is completely healed and the left is my trouble side. After seeing my dermatologist for my follow up appointment she went up on the dose of the retinoid I use at night. If you are wondering my routine this is what I'm using. Also go look at my old pics to see where I started from. Neutrogena - Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask I love this as it dries out my bumps LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser I use this at night and love how it's super light CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion light way and keeps face moisturizer at night elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 I use the tinted version now great for black girls only in the morning and I do two fingers when I apply it The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I just started using it super light weight. I started as a suggestion to help purging. Haven't told my dermatologist I'm using it but it has made the bumps on the right side calm down so so far so good. I'll update this to five stars after I have enough data to support if it really works.CeraVe - Healing Ointment I use when I experience dryness from the winter. A lot goes a long way .
Adult acne update round 3
I have just finished my 2 month round of antibiotics, and boy was it rough but the look at my skin! Scarring isn’t great, but that can’t be tackled till acne is officially gone. I haven’t gotten any new cystic acne bumps and I’m using the same products NEOSTRATA - Foaming Glycolic Wash Clindamycin wipes elta md SKINCARE - UV Elements Broad-Spectrum SPF 44 And when my skin is extremely dry CeraVe - Healing Ointment I have my next dermatologist appointment in a month and we’re then focusing on scarring, fingers crossed my skin stays clear!

Underrated Holy Grail Hydrators 💧
I have combination skin that is super sensitive on my face and body. I find I get regular dryness on my lips, body and cheeks so hydrating my skin is really important for me, especially now that I’m back working and showering twice a day because of it. Here are my favorites that are super underrated! ☀️ Brazilian Kiss by Sol de Janeiro $18 for .21 oz I found this when I was still using Lippe by DE and this stuck out because it’s the same price but has twice the amount of product. I purchased it to try it out and it’s been my favorite ever since. This is basically like a big gorgeous chapstick. The smell reminds me of sugar cookies, probably because among lots of hydrating oils it also contains butter. I’ve gone through 3-4 of these already and I’m not looking back! 🌹 Rose + Glow by Leah Skin ~$32 for 1 oz This oil every time I use it reminds me why it’s so great. Not only do I see quick results in terms of fading my red acne marks on my face but overall it hydrates gorgeously and brightens my skin. I also love supporting small businesses and this brand knows what they’re doing. Some key ingredients are squalane, Vitamin C and oils. This is a stable form of Vitamin C that can be mixed with other forms of that vitamin and even retinol. I also adore squalane for its anti-aging and oil control properties and for helping eczema and acne. The texture of this is a little thick but doesn’t feel that way on the skin at all. It’s smooth on application and goes on clear. *won in a giveaway by a skincare blogger 💕Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm by Aēsop $30 for 2.6 oz This is the best hand lotion EVER. Nothing makes my skin feel as soft and smell as gorgeously of citrus. Definitely holy grail status. Key ingredients here are Mandarin Rind, Rosemary Leaf, Cedar Atlas. This doesn’t feel greasy at all and absorbs quickly while still maintaining hand hydration. This comes in two sizes, 2.6 and a massive 17 oz for the big big fans who just can’t get enough. I can definitely see why! 💦 Lots of washing means lots of hydration. How do you keep your skin moisturized? Review My Nighttime Routine 🌙
✨ I have sensitive combination skin that is acne-prone and I also get hormonal breakouts. My skin doesn’t love fragrance and also really benefits from consistency. 🍉At night, I double cleanse to remove make-up, dirt, SPF and impurities. I typically use Farmacy’s Very Cherry Clean balm and Krave Beauty’s Matcha Hemp Cleanser which are gentle and packed with perks from Vitamin C to antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. 🍊After that, I use an eye cream. Lately, I’ve been using my mini Jet Lag mask for this purpose and love it. I find this mask to be so multifunctional and really hydrating. Sometimes I’ll use it as a nighttime moisturizer too but not tonight. 🍋Although it varies depending on the night and need that day of my skin, last night I went in with a retinol once my skin was drier after washing rather than keeping it wet for a different serum like HA, etc. I don’t adore this retinol and have a new one coming from Allies of Skin but this does a good job with cell turnover despite the questionably long ingredient list and questionable customer service/behavior of the brand. 🍏After that, I used this moisturizer by Farmacy which I wasn’t in love with at first but it is growing on me, especially for summertime where I want a bit of a lighter finish compared to some of my winter nighttime moisturizers. 🍇Then to lock everything in, I use this gorgeous oil by Leah Skin. This is an oil that actually can be paired with retinol according to the brand owner because it is a stable form of Vitamin C which is super cool. 🌈 I like this routine quite a lot minus the retinol although it does the job for now. Is Farmacy Really Farm Fresh?? 🌾
Me: dry-combo, currently acne prone, sensitive or very sensitive For my first dive into Farmacy products, I purchased the FARMACY - Farmer's Market Kit so that I could try a variety of their bestsellers. Overall, a good tester kit for your money with adequately sized samples! (Much bigger than the Glow Recipe sample sizes.) From favorite to least favorite: FARMACY - Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm This was my first ever cleansing balm and I fell in love 😍 Your skin feels so smooth and moisturized afterwards. As a dry skin person I often used this as a single cleanse and didn’t notice any breakouts. I knocked off a star because it contains fragrance.... but actually I LOVE the smell... I just worry about my sensitive skin. The next balm I’m trying out is the GOOD MOLECULES - Instant Cleansing Balm FARMACY - Daily Greens Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer with Moringa and Papaya This was a nice lightweight moisturizer. I didn’t like the smell quite as much as the balm but it was fine. It did leave a bit of a shiny sticky residue for me but that went away when i added oil on top. Overall, not enough moisture for my skin right now, but I could see myself loving it in the summer! The next lightweight moisturizer I am trying is the CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask I wanted to love this one, and about half the time I loved it, but about half the time I HATED it. When it was good, it made my skin feel so smooth, hydrated, and brightened. When it was bad, it BURNED my skin, horribly at times. I guess it depends on how my skin barrier is doing? Probably not a repurchase since it was so unpredictable on my sensitive skin. I love honey and would love to hear thoughts on other honey masks to try! FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry My least favorite of the group, this one was just too sticky for me. I also didnt like the smell... it was almost sour smelling? Idk, just not for me. I’m now trying the Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serumfor my next vitamin C product. I also now purchased FARMACY - Cheer Up Brightening Vitamin C Eye Cream with Acerola Cherry and it is too soon for a full review but right now I am liking it a lot! It is not sticky, and does not have the funny smell of the serum. What do you guys think?? What Farmacy products should I try next? I’m eyeing the FARMACY - Honey Drop Lightweight Moisturizeror the FARMACY - Honey Halo Ultra-hydrating Ceramide Moisturizerand the FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serumand maybe the FARMACY - Whipped Greens: Oil-Free Foaming Cleanser With Moringa and Papaya!! Let me know what you think!
First Impressions - Very Cherry Vitamin C 🍒
Just swapped out my DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum with the FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry in my morning routine. I have posted about this before but man finding a good vitamin c serum is hard!! What I’ve noticed with this product so far: it’s really watery the smell is nice and mild I’m concerned the clear packaging will cause it to go back quick the pump disperses the perfect amount it’s not sticky My overall first impression is schmeh... I bought it because someone recommended it to me, but I’m thinking I’ll have to get the Paul’s choice one next since that seems to be a big hit!
BIOSSANCE SQUALANE + tea tree balancing oil
I got this set two weeks ago. This brand is new to me, so I bought the travel set to try. I used this oil from the first day I received it. The main ingredients of this oil are plant-based squalane and tea tree oil. The squalane can balance oil production, providing just enough moisture to keep the skin clear and healty. Tea tree oil possesses antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties. So this combination is simple, straightforward and very effective for acne skin. I keep using it for around ten days, and I discovered several ways to use it. 1、 Use it after night cream as the last step of night skincare routine when there is no new pimples or breakouts. My skin feels calm and moist 2、Use it before night cream as an acne treatment serum when I have some breakouts. 3、Apply 2-3 drops after day cream before sunscreen to moisture and balance the skin. Perfect for Redness, Rosacea, Eczema
I’ve been using MG every day since I received it, after patch-testing on my neck and omitting some of my other anti-redness serums to see how it fared on its own. I experienced no irritation, no reaction, and already consider this a new staple in my routine as someone with eczema that is prone to easily-sensitized skin and red cheeks. When applied in the AM, I see a reduction of redness within a couple hours of application. I also find it very moisturizing, with a pleasant texture that easily mixes with other serums. I’m excited to use it with my usual serums to curb my sensitivity and give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars for doing what it claims to do, quickly and without potentially-irritating ingredients 🙌🏽 Now. Glucosides are glucose (a sugar) joined to a non-sugar to form a compound. They’re very common in nature and have antioxidant + antimicrobial properties. Modulating just means modifying/controlling, which fits since these glucosides control redness amazingly. Anyone struggling with redness, sensitivity, rosacea, or eczema is probably going to love this serum. NIOD - Modulating Glucosides suspends a mixture of soothing glucosides, nourishing ceramides, and calming Tasmanian pepperberry in moisturizing squalane and water-retaining emollient isodecyl neopentanoate 🔬 INCI lists can have long, somewhat intimidating nomenclature in them. But it’s good to remember that all things are made of chemicals. Coconut oil is caprylic triglyceride. Just because something sounds “natural” doesn’t make it better. NIOD, however, gives nods to the more rural origins of skin care by melding cutting-edge technology with esoteric, plant-based science.
Essences aren’t new in the skincare world, but it wasn’t until recently more brands added them to their repertoire. An essence is a concentrated formula that targets wrinkles, fine lines, and dull skin. Most essences contain an active ingredient that promotes cell turnover. Eventually, the daily use of essences in your routine will lead to smoother and brighter skin. However, don’t be fooled by the promises that essences are somehow anti-aging powerhouses. I think of them as your skin’s multivitamin. Who Should Use this Essence Here’s the good thing about this product, because it’s almost entirely snail mucin filtrate, everyone should use it. But, you know I don’t believe in that “best for all skin types” stuff brands like to promote. To me, this product is a classic staple on everyone’s skincare routine, but those who need it have: Sensitive skin Dry skin Acne-prone skin Why? Because snail mucin can help reduce redness, nourishes at a cellular level, and provides a glow that will help fade out acne scars. But, most importantly, the combination of naturally-found hyaluronic and glycolic acid make it a must-have if you have sensitive or dry skin. How to Use this Essence It’s relatively simple to use an essence. After you’re done with the toner, use one or two pumps of product, it spreads easily. Apply all over your face and neck. Start from the center and work your way our with pulling motions, almost like a massage. Wait for it to dry before you move to the next step. Currently loving: the Herbal Recovery Line from jurlique!! Seriously look at how gorgeous the glass bottles look, I'm always handling them so carefully for fear of my clumsy hands dropping them (they're the most luxurious products I own for sure ) But beautiful packaging aside, I'm honestly really surprised these anti-aging products* (mist + serum) have been working so well on my skin!! I usually don't reach that often for anti-aging (as I should lol) but I really feel that they not only have helped keep my skin super soft and smooth, but also minimized my acne somehow too! I miss using them when I rotate them out of my routine (for testing purposes) especially the serum because it's so great at hydrating, soothing and calming my skin. . The Herbal Recovery Signature Serum has a lovely herbal rose/lavender scent that's not overpowering at all, and has this super lightweight but still hydrating property that I absolutely LOVE! I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm obsessed with these type of super fast absorbing serums that are at the same time perfectly hydrating for my acne-prone, combination skin. Similar to my HG Jkosmmune serum, it leaves a protective film that I can feel on the surface, maintaining hydration and preventing moisture loss. Maybe this effective hydration and water/oil balance is what keep my skin from breaking out and healing faster when it does! Features pure and organic Red Clover Flower to "enhance the role of hyaluronic acid." I can also feel a slight tightening effect on the skin whenever I use the serum which I feel it's great for an anti-aging product. . The Herbal Recovery Signature Mist has the same beautiful scent and hydrates the skin while soothing, refreshing, and revitalizing it. The mist is very fine and what I love about it is that it's not too watery like a lot of mists I've tried, it actually moisturizes! Features organic nasturtium to help even skin tone as well as a botanical blend of Japanese cedar bud, Yarrow, Viola Tricolor and Citrus Unishu peel extracts (not sure what all these are but sound lux ) So overall I am really loving both of these but especially the serum!

Omega+ Serum: Hit or Miss?
The product I’ll be talking about today is PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum So let’s get to it! What is it? - A superfood serum for your skin with omega fatty acids that strengthen skin's surface with the essential nutrients it needs to be healthy, hydrated and visibly strong. - Available in 1oz for $37, or travel size (0.17oz) for $8. (PC offers 15% off when you sign up for emails, plus they frequently have sales) What’s in it? - Concentrated levels of omega fatty acids help replenish dull, dehydrated skin, revive a beautifully smooth, supple feeling, plus visibly soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. - This serum also contains skin-identical ceramides and hydrating ingredients to visibly improve skin’s health. How to use- - Apply 1-2 pumps onto face and neck. For optimal results, use AM and PM. For daytime, follow with a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater. My review- - I have been using this serum for almost a month. I have dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin. - The serum has a milky, creamy consistency. It has a light, ceramide-like scent. I apply two pumps onto my face AM and PM after my toner and before my moisturizer. It spreads easily onto the skin and absorbs at a medium pace. - My experience with this serum thus far has been pretty lackluster. There hasn’t been any results that make me think, “oh that’s definitely the omega+ serum!” It doesn’t make my skin noticeably softer or smoother. I will say that the one time I chose not to put it on, my moisturizer stung a little, so maybe the serum acts as a barrier to decrease sensitivity? I haven’t had any negative results, which is why I gave it 4 stars. It is pretty expensive, and with not having any noticeable positive effects, I won’t be repurchasing this. My plan is to try Krave’s Great Barrier Relief serum after I finish this one! - This serum was a miss for me ❌ Source- - https://www.paulaschoice.com/omegaand-complex-serum/213.html
PAULA'S CHOICE-Omega + Complex Serum
Krave Great Barrier Relief This is a thicker serum so if you have oily skin I think you could probably wear it alone as a moisturizer, I have combination skin but I am always battling dehydration so I layer this after other serums before my moisturizer. This serum works wonders for me. When I started testing this out I was having one of the worst breakouts I have had in months. I simplified my routine and added this in. My breakouts started healing quicker than usual, my skin felt less irritated and my redness reduced immensely. I also noticed that the marks left behind by those blemishes were less red and seemed to fade upon continued use. I am blown away by this serum and at $28 this is something I always want to have on hand.

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
