Exfoliating Sensitive Skin 101☀️
I have combination skin that is very sensitive and acne-prone so I need to be very careful when I exfoliate that my physical exfoliants aren’t too harsh and my chemical ones aren’t too strong. ☀️Physical exfoliants contain a rougher material like sugar or grains and when used against skin, you remove dead skin cells and reveal newer skin. Some can be too harsh and the Apricot Scrub by St Ives is an example of that. Some are so harsh they actually leave tiny cuts in the skin, leaving it prone and exposed! There are some that I like such as the Acure Blueberry Scrub and I find that is gentle enough to work for me on occasion. I only use a physical exfoliant maybe once a week and twice a week at most. It’s important to not over-exfoliate and when I do use a physical one, I prefer ones that are very gentle. One that I love is the Sand & Sky Enzyme Powder Polish which is my current favorite physical exfoliant. It’s so gentle and the ingredients are amazing for brightening and removing impurities. ☀️Chemical exfoliants are acids that get rid of dead skin that come in various concentrations. These include AHA, BHA and PHA acids. With regular usage, skin can feel smoother and look more even. It can also help with clogged pores! I love Farmacy’s Honeymoon Glow for this personally but I’ve also heard good things about the PHAT Glow Facial by Olehenrikson! The important thing is to listen to your skin and what it needs that day! Exfoliating doesn’t need to be done constantly if your skin is too sensitive for that. I’ll do it about two times a week and tend to alternate between physical and chemical exfoliants. FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum

Products That Make Me Glow! ☀️
I have sensitive combination skin so finding products that make me glow can be tough but I have found gentle products that work for me! Glowing isn’t just about exfoliation either. Vitamin C is brightening for skin so that helps with glow too! Here are some of my favorites: 1. Honeymoon Glow by Farmacy ✨ Key Ingredients- AHA, flower acids and honey ✨ Honeymoon Glow is an nighttime resurfacing serum that for me gets rid of breakouts and leaves me glowing the next morning. It tingles a bit when first applied but that quickly stops. I couldn’t go without this one and if I didn’t already have a back-up, I’d be repurchasing with the current Sephora sale! ✨ I like to use acids like this with a stronger nightly moisturizer like Healing Ointment by CeraVe! I use this maybe twice a week at most. 2. Rose + Glow Oil by Leah Skin ✨ Key Ingredients- Vitamin C and Squalane ✨ This oil is a game changer💕 Vitamin C brightens skin gorgeously but always use with SPF! I use it morning and night and notice significant changes in dark spots overnight. Over weeks I’ve seen major transformations in my skin. I have super sensitive skin and get hormonal breakouts so I’m talking from a MESS to smooth and plump. It has squalane and a stable form of Vitamin C that plays nicely with other Vitamin C and even retinol. ✨ Because it is more stable than others, it also lasts significantly longer- this bottle being good for a year after opening compared to some of my others which expire as quickly as 3 months. It is clean, in glass packaging and adorable. I will definitely be repurchasing this once I finish it! 3. Enzyme Powder Polish by Sand & Sky ✨Key ingredients- Australian Glow Berries, Papaya Fruit Enzymes, Quandong and Davidson Plum, Aloe Vera and Jojoba oils for brightening, smoothing, soothing and nourishing skin. It also has their Kaolin clay in it too! ✨This is now my preferred type of wash-off exfoliant. It starts as a powder then you add a little bit of water and rub it into a foam. After massaging on skin for 15 seconds, you simply wash off and go on with the rest of your routine. It makes my skin feel SO SOFT and helps remove any dryness or peeling. It’s super gentle on the skin but really effective and pairs beautifully with retinol as well. ✨This starts as a white powder but when you add water, you get that classic pink Sand & Sky color. Pro-tip, it took me about two tries to get the ratios correct- if you add too little water, you’ll get a paste and if you add too much, it’ll absorb into your hands. You want a light pink foam. My Favorite Serums 🌸
I have sensitive combo skin that is acne-prone and these are my favorite skincare serums! A lot of my serums are focused in helping with acne and its aftermath and these are the best I’ve found. ✨Antioxidant Pore Purifier by Paula’s Choice $31 for 1oz This serum has salicylic acid in it and white tea. It is meant to unclog pores and help with airborne pollutants. It’s a light fluid that is the tiniest bit sticky on skin before adding a moisturizer. Before finding this, I was dealing with a lot of really intense cystic acne. After using for about two months, I eased up on this product and noticed my breakouts got worse which is when I realized what an effect this was having for my skin. I eventually did ease out of regular use and my skin has been behaving but if it does get bad again, I’m definitely repurchasing this product. ✨Very Cherry Bright by Farmacy $62 for 1oz This is a lightweight Vitamin C serum by Farmacy made with four forms of Vitamin C, the most obvious being from the Acerola Cherry extracts which make this smell so good! This serum is gorgeous. It’s lightweight and effective. This is a clean brand and comes in packaging that is meant to reduce oxidation which makes Vitamin C serums less effective. I find this helps with red spots, scarring, brightening and fighting free radicals. My biggest issue is the price but this brand does regular sales which helps. I’m about to try the Naturium Vitamin C Complex so we will see how that compares given the lower price point. Stay tuned! I’m also liking the Naturium Niacinamide one a lot. ✨Great Barrier Relief by Krave $28 for 1.52 fl oz This is a moisture barrier saving serum by Krave which I fall more and more in love with each use. It has Tamanu Oil, Safflower Oil, Rosehip Oil, Vitamin B3 and Ceramide for for skin regeneration, hyperpigmentation, anti-aging, brightening, acne-fighting and generally repairing a damaged skin barrier. This serum is turning into an all time favorite. I actually use this after a lighter Vitamin C serum on my mask area and it’s been helping to prevent breakouts from mask wearing. This product mimics your skin’s moisture barrier so it’s great for skin that needs help from too many actives, sunburn, etc. ✨Honeymoon Glow by Farmacy $58 for 1 oz This is an nighttime resurfacing serum that for me gets rid of breakouts and leaves me glowing the next morning. It has AHA, flower acids and honey in it. It tingles a bit when first applied but that quickly stops. I couldn’t go without this one and have a back-up. I like to use acids like this with a stronger nightly moisturizer like Healing Ointment by CeraVe! I use this maybe twice a week at most. 🌸What serums are you loving? A few new products to highlight: - fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash: the physical exfoliant face wash I never knew I needed! I like to keep my morning routines simple. A gentle cleanse, hydrating toner, antioxidant serum followed by a moisturizer and a sunscreen is all that I use everyday. Sharing my routine from this morning. Derma Truth antioxidant cleanser: This gentle low foaming cleanser cleanses your skin effectively but does not leave it feeling stripped. It contains mild surfactants and is loaded with hydrating and soothing ingredients like Glycerin, Aloe Barbadenis Leaf Extract, Beta Glucan, Allantoin, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate. This sinks in instantly and feels hydrating. Earth Srecipe Energy Boosting toner: Love this toner, viscous in texture and delivers a boost of hydration to your skin. I used 3 layers this morning. It has a pleasant citrus scent and it sinks into your skin beautifully without leaving any residue. This has soon become one of my favorite hydrating toners. My love for small, CLEAN, cruelty free skincare brands exploded after being blown away by the formulas and quality of Honua products🌺🌱 These products are luxuriously made and work so well. . Here are my honest thoughts - in the order I would use them. FYI: I have extremely acne prone skin and these did not break me out! ——— ✨Pa’akai cleansing cream - First off, this reminds me of my childhood in Hawaii because of its delicate hibiscus scent🌺 Used AM/PM as a cleanser, this cream deep cleanses gently and thoroughly without stripping or drying the skin. It is divine. . . ✨Hawaiian beauty water - Ok, I’m gonna need back ups of this😭 This has been my favorite exfoliant to use lately. Blended with natural AHAs sugarcane and papaya enzymes, I always feel the product working and love the glow afterward! I also love mixing this with the cleansing cream as a quick mask for some extra TLC. . . ✨Aloha youth serum - This serum is blended with lovely firming and brightening ingredients. It sinks into the skin beautifully and my skin instantly feels hydrated and nourished. Love a good vitamin C serum for my hyperpigmentation. . . ✨Olena beauty oil - I am obsessed with using this both AM and PM. It contains turmeric, an anti inflammatory powerhouse which is amazing for skin with acne and eczema. My favorite way to use it is at night after extra exfoliation - I warm the oil between my palms and press it into the skin. My skin afterward feels so calm, almost like I just came from a spa.
Products for acne prone skin!
🌻My skin type/concerns- I have very dry skin in the winter and a normal skin type during the summer! Occasionally I will get bad acne throughout the year, I also have bad redness and hyperpigmentation, and pores! 🌻this review is for products I have tried to reduce my acne! ✅worked ❌didn’t work 🌻Product list: ✅Murad acne cleanser- I discovered this cleanser about 8 months ago and fell in love! I love using this cleanser in the morning and night because it does a great job at clearing my acne and getting rid of my hyperpigmentation! it is amazing at reducing the acne I get on my skin! I see a huge difference from before and after I use this! It’s amazing ingredients is everything that helps with my acne! ✅drunk elephant c firma serum- I discovered this serum from a friend recommending this to me after trying it and telling me how much it helped clear her acne prone skin ! I have been using this for about 6 months! I always use this at night and morning because I know when I wake up my acne looks super reduced and my skin is very soothed for when I start the day! I always use this first in my skin care routine! The amazing ingredients help so much with my acne! ✅Kate Somerville exfoliating treatment- I saw this all over social media when it came out, and when I saw some reviews for it I knew it would be perfect for my skin and I immediately bought it! I have been using this for about 6 months! I also only use this at night and whenever I use it before bed I see the biggest difference in my acne when I wake up! I use this right after I cleanse my face! The very thick consistency of this is super helpful before going to bed because I know I will wake up with super moisturized skin and my acne will be gone! ❌indie lee cleanser- I found this cleanser from a family member recommending it to me, and saying how much it helped with her acne! I saw the pricy price tag but I still went for it! I used it for a couple months of the summer, and it was perfect for my summer skin type! This has not really helped my acne, it is a great product for my dry skin, but it did not help my acne! I saw no difference when I used this at night and when I would wake up nothing changed! I used this right before using toner!Murad - Clarifying Cleanser DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum Kate Somerville - ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment INDIE LEE - Purifying Face Wash

With the rise in popularity of at-home chemical exfoliation, it’s easier than ever before to take it a step too far.
