8 Do’s and Don’ts for Hormonal Acne

FaceBareSkinCare
☀️I have combo skin that is sensitive and I get regular hormonal acne which makes keeping my skin fully clear very difficult but I’ve gotten a lot better at it over time so wanted to share some tips! 💕Do: 1. Wash your face daily by double cleansing. I like to wash my face with a water-based cleanser in the morning personally and then at night I’ll use a cleansing balm and then a water-based cleanser. This is called double cleansing and that extra step is important at night, especially if you were wearing makeup and sunscreen during the day (hopefully SPF!). You can also find a cleanser with Salicylic Acid in it to treat breakouts like the one from Paula’s Choice or CeraVe. 2. Wear sunscreen SPF 30 or higher Sunscreen daily helps my skin so much with redness and of course with acne. This is one of the most important things you can do for your skin! Do it do it do it! 3. Use clay masks Once or twice a week I will use my pink clay mask by Sand & Sky to pull out impurities from my skin. I find this mask helps with painful acne and reducing redness. It increases healing time from my experience too. This is the best one I’ve found and I will repurchase over and over again. 4. Use Vitamin C (with SPF during the day) Vitamin C helps me a TON with acne scars. You know after a big breakout how you’ll have redness? This ingredient helps me with that and fights free radicals during the day which is good too! Always pair it with sunscreen. I like to use this during the day and a retinol to increase cell turnover at night. Generally, the rule of thumb is to not mix the two! 5. Use a retinol This product increase cell turnover which for me helps heal acne faster and also seems to prevent big breakouts and even small ones from happening as frequently. I use A-Passioni by Drunk Elephant currently. It’s strong so like any product, patch test on your hand to see if your skin gets along with it. Then slowly add to your routine with a richer moisturizer. There are many options out there. I did experience peeling and purging when I first started and that purging where your skin breaks out from the product at first can last a few weeks but is so so worth it in the end. 🙈Don’t: 1. Do NOT use products with coconut oil. This isn’t true for everyone but for me and a bunch of skincare lovers I know, products with coconut oil make us breakout consistently. Yes, it can be hydrating but keep it to the body rather than your face. 2. Do NOT use products with fragrance! This isn’t true for everyone but for some people fragrance is extremely irritating for the skin. I think if you can avoid it, which you can, then definitely do. CeraVe has a lot of great and affordable products that fit this category. 3. Do NOT sleep in your make-up. I know. It can happen. But for my skin, I find I can breakout throughout just the course of the day from wearing make-up. I hope this helps! SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask

GraceProposchThis is amazing! But just be careful not to use vitamin c and retinol on your skin at the same time ❤️❤️

FaceBareSkinCareI’ve been using a stable form of Vitamin C that can be used with it but that’s a good reminder and point always for other forms of it!! Thank you for looking out!

Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask
SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask Well, today I learned the hard way that Vitamin A is retinol... I’ve been dying to try this mask and they had a mini at Ulta for $25 and I was so excited! But I put it on today and my goodness it burned when I first put it on. Someone was in the bathroom so I couldn’t wash it off, but the burning stopped after a minute thank goodness. When I was able to wash it off five minutes later my face was bright red. I’ll definitely be returning this because my sensitive skin can’t handle retinol right now. Maybe in the future it would be ok but yikes this is not for me right now.

Don’t leave your products on too long!
Okay so I’m not very new to the skincare game being that I’ve had cystic acne since I was 13 and have probably used every brand of every cosmetics/skincare that exists BUT I learn something new about my skin every day! That being said, I have assumed my whole life that as long as what you’re using is meant to heal (anything that’s hydrating, clearing, and not charcoal or an acid like AHA/BHA), I have had absolutely no problem leaving masks on my face for up to 3 HOURS... yes, sadly you heard that right. A few weeks ago, I made a post about SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask The instructions tell you to keep it on anywhere from 5-20 minutes and knowing the masks I use normally, I tend to leave it on as long as possible. Today, I took it off as soon as I saw it was dry and OMG did I see such a difference compared to my past uses. Not only was my skin tone more even and face looking hydrated as ever, but it looked as if I had just gotten the most natural makeup look done by a professional. I did not get a picture of this sadly, but I decided that using my favorite glycolic mask of all time afterwards would be quite helpful (PS any night I use this mask and top with a hydrator, the next morning I have the most plump and hydrated skin ever). So yes you can change your mind about products but most of all, you can be using a product incorrectly. These products we buy are made by professionals in skincare and they know how different skin types can react.

sandandskyaus - Pink Clay Mask
sandandskyaus - Pink Clay Mask It’s recommended to use 2-3 times a week, but at £40 a pop, I use it once a week. For me that’s enough and gives me the results I’m very happy with. Having always struggled with adult acne (yes I thought it stopped at 18 too) I struggled to find products that kept breakouts at bay for good. I have marvellous skincare for dealing with spots but preventing them was a different story. After using the Sand & Sky mask for about 2 months now, I really haven’t had a major breakout. I’ve had the odd one, the result of too much sugar (wine) and hormonal changes, but nothing I would cry over. I’ve also noticed a reduction in the dreaded oily T-Zone, but it’s definitely not drying ✨

Let’s talk face masks for acne
Let’s talk face masks for acne
The Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask is marketed as a pore-refining mask with super-powered Australian botanicals. It's meant to be a solution for pores, blemishes & acne, and oiliness. The texture here is similar to your usual clay mask, but what i love about this particular one is how smooth it is and non-drying it is on the skin. Definitely one of my favorite clay mask textures for sure. I decided to try this mask around a month ago since I've recently struggled with acne here and there. I had heard this mask in particular was great for clearing up skin blemishes and reducing acne flair-ups. Plus the before and after photo on their websites are incredible! In terms of my experience, I REALLY like this mask and I feel it is the best mask I've tried that helps with blemishes and preventing acne. It's really one of the few face masks that truly does what it says it does. As mentioned, I also really love how this mask doesn't dry out my already dry skin! Overall, if i put this on when i feel a breakout coming on, it's definitely helps my blemishes fade quickly and redness always goes down fast. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone! Like i said, it does what it says it does and is one of the few products I own that truly helps me when I'm battling a breakout. It sells for $50 which I'd say is worth it since it's an effective product with great ingredients. I would rate this product 5/5. SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask

You’ve probably heard it all about AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay 💓FEEL YOUR FACE PULSATE💓 and all that... Buuuut here’s some helpful tips from a friend who’s been using it almost as long as the Aztecs have (gosh I must be 👵ANCIENT👵) It recommends you mix it with 🍎APPLE CIDER VINEGAR 🍎 and I’ve heard some folks say that’s too harsh for them but honestly I feel it mixes best with the vinegar and has the best consistency. If it’s your first time try half water half vinegar (you prepare by mixing equal parts liquid/powder) I let it get nice and crunchy and remove🧖‍♀️ GENTLY🧖‍♀️ with a warm towel. This can be messy especially if you use a thick layer! It smells 😕NOT GREAT 😕 while it’s working it’s magic but you get used to it. I have dry sensitive skin and only use it once of twice a month to help shrink my pores and if I am having some blemish issues. It really feels like it is 💥SUCKING OUT💥 all your skin’s impurities. Your skin will be red afterwards and slightly irritated if you leave it on too long or scrub too vigorously when removing. I like to do it at 🌙 NIGHT 🌙 so any redness is gone by morning. To 🧴SOOTHE & MOISTURIZE 🧴 afterwards I like to use FIRST AID BEAUTY - FAB Pharma Arnica Relief & Rescue Maskor Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Hydrogel Recovery Mask 🍀GOOD LUCK🍀 being green!

The best acne treatment mask I’ve ever used!
The best acne treatment mask I’ve ever used!
SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask The Sand & Sky pink clay porefining face mask is hands down the best clay mask that I have ever used. This mask can clear up ANY congestion and acne that you may possibly have, in just a short 10 minute mask session. I have gone through 4 whole jars of this magical mask in about 1.5 years. I will repurchase over and over again because honestly there’s not another clay mask out there that delivers these kind of results. I would recommend this mask for any skin type that is struggling with acne and congestion, just keep in mind that the dry skin types (such as myself) will need to HYDRATE after this one. It doesn’t strip your skin, per-say, but it is a little more drying and tightens your pores giving you a dry feeling afterwards. The main ingredients in this gem are: Australian clay, aloe leaf juice, vitamin e, witch hazel, dehdroacetic acid, lactic acid, and glycerin. It does contain some natural fragrance, which smells very fresh almost cucumbery to me, but it does not irritate the skin. The texture of this mask is a thicker paste, but smoothes onto the skin easily with the cute little included mask brush applicator. The texture starts as a wet clay and dries down within the 10 minutes you have it on. The mask feels very cooling and is one of the more comfortable clay masks that I have used. You can always sprits a face mist or toner to keep it from drying down completely! I think that the jar of product can go a long way and last a decent amount of time with frequent use, because the product spreads so easily and a little goes a long way. The price point is justified in my opinion because the results are THAT good and immediate. I highly recommend this product to anyone struggling with congestion, texture, and breakouts! 5/5 stars

Sand & Sky mask- Review
Sand & Sky mask- Review
After succumbing to the pressure of my social media feed, I ordered this mask a couple months ago and I hoped it would be the miracle cure for my stubborn acne. It’s a good product, but I will be trying some other mask rather than reordering. Pros: It definitely helps to clear pores, and while it does help with blemishes, it didn’t make them vanish like I had hoped. It can also be used as a spot treatment for blemishes. It definitely helped them to clear up faster, but again, no miracles. It goes on nicely and it didn’t dry out my skin. It does say it’s free of nasty ingredients, but it’s not on the Think Dirty app. Cons: This is a very expensive mask ($66 CAD plus shipping). If it had been as good as I hoped, it would be worth it, but it’s hard to justify spending so much. Is it a great product- yes! But does it live up to the hype- no. I don’t plan to repurchase, at least for now.

Oh Tea Tree oil, the Peacemaker
Oh Tea Tree oil, the Peacemaker
My go-to mask for oh, so many reasons. I think we tend to forget about the body shop and it's perfect yet simple products. This is their "clarifying clay mask" specifically designed for blemish prone skin to "remove impurities while soothing" skin. There is no less truth in their statement. I use this as soon as I think I am about to breakout, I use this when I come back from vacation, I use this when I realize the hectic week had me neglecting my skin. I've been in love with this product for over a year. It's perfect for any onset of breakout or stress, it's soothing without any burning, and the tingle only comes as a cooling effect which I absolutely love when my skin is being... needy. I like to use this 2 times a week and love the whipped texture. It's even refreshing when you put it on! (Tip: I use a flat brush.) And for $17 it's absolutely worth it!
