Wavy Hair FINALLY Curly!

Erin_Catherine
I think I finally perfected my routine for how to make my wavy hair CURLY! I have wavy (in between 2b and 2c) hair that is as dry as the desert. As a result, my hair usually can’t hold a curl well and is a frizzy mess by the end of the day. That is, until I tried this routine last night after my shower—my curls (in the last picture) held up all night and even in the humidity! 😍 1. function of beauty - Custom shampoo + conditioner
I started using FOB maybe about 2 years ago after working in and around chlorinated pools full-time. My hair was dry, brittle, frizzy, and just an absolute rat’s nest. Picking my own “hair goals” gave me a super hydrating formula that honestly saved my hair. I don’t work in pools anymore, but I continue to use this formula to combat the drying effects of a medicated shampoo I use that similarly strips my hair. ✨ The biggest change I made in my routine is that I conditioned my hair FIRST. I let the FOB hair mask soak in my hair for a few minutes and then detangled it before moving on to my medicated shampoo, then the FOB shampoo, then finishing with the FOB conditioner. I think this double-condition combated the drying effects of my medicated shampoo better than just using conditioner once at the end. 2. SheaMoisture - Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk
After I detangle my hair with a wide tooth comb and rinse the conditioner out, I take about a quarter size amount of this product and put it through my hair ends to roots. I also try to roughly section my hair to make sure its equally dispersed, and then I detangle one last time with a wide tooth comb. 3. Miss Jessie's - Jelly Soft Curls
I just purchased this gel and I LOVE it. I’ve stayed away from gels for a long time because I thought they would weigh down my hair and cause build up on my sensitive scalp, but this was not the case at all. I took a slightly-larger-than-a-quarter sized amount and scrunched this product in wet hair (you should hear a little squish when you scrunch!). I also flipped my hair over before I scrunched to give my hair some volume. 4. Plop your hair! I watched Tik-Toks honestly to learn how to do this 😅 I used a long-sleeved cotton t-shirt, and I let my hair sit for about 45 minutes (would’ve been longer but I had places to be). 5. After I took my hair out of its plop, I parted it where I wanted and used the FOB leave-in treatment to re-scrunch my hair where it fell. Then I just let it air dry while I was out and about! You definitely don’t need to use all of the same products (I love Function of Beauty but it can be pricey, especially compared to drugstore brands), but out of everything, I think the double conditioning, the Miss Jessie’s hair gel and plopping my hair made the biggest impact. Hope this helps anybody with wavy hair to define their curls!

Shea Moisture Curl & Shine
SheaMoisture - Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo SheaMoisture - Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner SheaMoisture - Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk I decided to give this brand a try, because the shampoo I was using was drying out my hair and making it very frizzy. I have been using these products for about 2 weeks now. With my old shampoo, I could go 3-4 days in between washes. With these products, I can go 2 days. 👉🏻I like the shampoo a lot! I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish it cleansed a bit more then it does, sometimes my hair can still feel a little greasy near the roots. 👉🏻I love the conditioner! I only put it on the tips of my hair because of how moisturizing the shampoo is. It makes my hair tangle free when I get out of the shower. 👉🏻The style milk is great, I just think my hair isn’t dry or curly enough for this product. When I use it, I use a very small amount on damp hair or it makes my hair greasy instantly. It does a great job of keeping the frizz away, and keeping my hair soft.

Help!?! Fine/Wavy/Curly girl
I was born with like zero hair, it grew in hell’s patchy and bright orange ( ginger reject right here!) But it was super thin for most of my life. My pony tails were like the diameter of a dime. But I started cutting my hair really short in middle school and that helped a lot, though the strands are still thin, I have a lot of fine hair. But I always straightened my hair once I was older cause waves and stuff weren’t cool, nor was red hair, so I was a big fan of the dye and bleach as well. So now I seem to be left when a head of hair that A) is drier than the high heavens but doesn’t want to take in moisture properly without weighing it down, or making it never dry without heat. B) the top section appears to be more 2a, the mid more 2b-2c and underneath at the nape I can get tight ringleader curls? Where’s there uniformity? C) I have tried to do the curly girl method and that’s caused a lot of issues with my scalp and skin, and a lot of the heavy butters and oils are too much for my hair and just weigh it down. This leaves me wondering how to proceed. This I have used and like. I finally gave in and tried the Curl Talk line
I finally gave in and tried the Curl Talk line
Welcome to my very first Cherie review!! I've been following the Curly Girl Method (with some modifications here and there) for two years or so now. I've been eyeing the Curl Talk line since it came out, and for some reason I just never made the plunge... until now! These are my first impressions. For reference, I have 2c, fine, medium porosity hair. The second pic is my hair on day one, and the third pic is after I refreshed on day two. Curl Talk Scalp Cleansing Oil: This right here is the star of the show. I have a dry scalp that gets flakes fairly easily, and this is probably the best shampoo I've ever used. My scalp felt so happy after using this. It's strong enough to get rid of buildup and flakes, yet hydrating enough for my dry scalp. If you can only try one product from this line, make it this one. Curl Talk 3-in-1 Conditioner: I enjoyed this conditioner. I used it as a rinse out conditioner. it detangled fairly well and has some nice protein ingredients if your hair likes protein. I say give it a try! Curl Talk Leave-In Conditioner: I like this leave-in because it's a lightweight spray. It's hard to find a spray leave-in that actually sprays like a mist and actually hydrates curly hair. It also works as a heat protectant for diffusing which is a nice added bonus. Curl Talk Curl Cream: So, I'm not typically a cream gal because they can weigh down my hair. I'm typically a mousse gal cause I love volume. I've tried the Curl Talk mousse before, but I find it to be pretty sticky. This curl cream is pretty dang great. It's hydrating enough to give me some nice definition, yet lightweight enough to give me some volume. It's kind of like finding a unicorn. I'm impressed so far. Let me know what you think of the Curl Talk line!

Inexpensive Curly Hair Products & Routine 🙌🏽
Inexpensive Curly Hair Products & Routine 🙌🏽
If I had a dollar for every time someone asked what I put in my hair… 🤪 No, but seriously. I have been playing around my hair routine (products and styling) for about 7 years. This has allowed to try various products, styling techniques, etc. But it has also taught me exactly what ingredients can and can’t work for my hair type. 🥑 I know a lot of the routines on YouTube & IG call for moderately priced to very expensive products that most people don’t have access to 😩🤑 So, I am here to share with you all 3 products I have been using on and off for years and exactly how to layer them in order to achieve flawless curls/coils. Well… almost lol PLUS! Two of the products are under $5 each, so you can get amazing curls for less than $25! 🥳 TRADER JOE'S - Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo with Peppermint - This shampoo is truly divine. Its cleansing without being overly stripping and lathers well onto the scalp. I would suggest washing once if you don’t have a lot of build up, but if you are looking to clarify for your scalp, an additional wash would be necessary. It contains amazing cleansers (No SLFs) that won’t strip your hair of its natural oils and does an amazing job of cleaning the scalp and the minty-ness adds a very spa-like sensation to your wash day. TRADER JOE'S - Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner - One word: MULTIPURPOSE. I love this conditioner because not only is highly moisturizing and has a lot of slip but it can also be used as a leave-in due to consistency. After washing your hair, apply a generous amount to your hair making sure majority of strands are coated, and wait 2-3 minute before detangling and rinsing. After rinsing (with cool water) apply another amount to hair making to coat it but not excessively. You want enough to add moisture back in without the strands being weighed down. SheaMoisture - Sacha Inchi Oil Omega-3-6-9 Rescue & Repair Curl Defining Smoothie - A little goes a long way with this product and I make sure to only add little bit to my hair after getting out the shower. If you have thicker hair, I would suggest using a bit more. I love this because of the smell and how soft my hair feels after using it. I also use this as a styling product when doing other hairstyles, so it has different purposed for me. Honestly, any Shea Moisture curl smoothie/leave-in will work well! 🙌🏽✨ Have you curly babes used any of these? Would love to know your thoughts as well. 💛

Help my hair!
Help my hair!
So my whole life I have always had long and supposedly straight hair because I had always had it done up and I had not had it down for 24 hours in YEARS so I was taking care of my hair as if it was straight and as you can see it is NOT STRAIGHT you could even call it curly. I had just found out last year... lol 😂 that I had curly hair 👩‍🦱 and I’m still new to this curly hair thing so if there are any tips or products you know of please recommend! My “hair routine” rn looks like - Use normal shampoo and conditioner 🧴 - Once a week leave in Marc Anthony hair mask in for 10 minutes then rinse out. - Get out of shower and scrunch water out of hair with t-shirt to reduce frizz - Scrunch in Marc Anthony curl enhancing lotion and styling foam. Also can someone tell me my hair type? Please educate me! 😘 MARC ANTHONY TRUE PROFESSIONAL - Strictly Curls Curl Enhancing Styling Foam MARC ANTHONY TRUE PROFESSIONAL - Curl Defining Lotion MARC ANTHONY TRUE PROFESSIONAL - Damage Repair Mask

Curly Hair Routine
Hey guys! This is my current hair routine 🤗👩🏽‍🦱 ~ i was my hair about 3 times a week ~ All my life i disliked my hair. It was super frizzy, unmanageable, and I was very insecure about it, up until this year. I stopped being lazy, educated myself on my hair type and was able to find beauty in my natural hair. Now i absolutely love doing my hair! it’s a lot of work & takes a lot of effort but i wouldn’t trade it for anything else. 💋 Now for the breakdown of the products: tgin - Rose Water Leave-In Conditioner Right after my wash i apply this leave in conditioner and rake it through my hair, making sure it covers every strand. I absolutely love the smell of this!!! Carol's Daughter - Hair Milk 4-in-1 ''Combing'' Crème Then i apply this super lightweight creme. It is very hydrating & smells soooo good. I’ve also noticed this product definitely makes all the difference in my hair. Support black owned businesses!! 🖤 DevaCurl - Light Defining Gel Soft Hold No-Crunch Styler After i flip my hair upside down and begin scrunching this product throughout my hair. What i love about this product is that it does exactly what it’s names. Super soft gel that does not leave a nasty crunch feel behind. Great for holding that shape. Lastly i diffuse my hair till it is about 80% dry ogx - Nourishing Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Oil Mist I finish it off with this spray, it’s great, efficient and inexpensive! & that’s it! 💞💓💗 Let me know if you guys try any of these out. Would you guys like more hair related posts? If you have an other suggestions or questions please leave a comment! 🤍

I tried the “Curly Girl Method” and....
The Curly Girl Method isn’t new. My mom has been using this method for so long. I had never done it before because I have naturally curly hair and didn’t think it would make a difference...well.... I was wrong. My curls are dry and thick and nothing seems to make them bouncy and full except a good haircut with layers. But, you know, quarantine and all...so I haven’t had a haircut since February! This is my take on the curly girl method: 1. Start with wet hair! This is me about 10 minutes after I got out of the shower. 2. Use a curl defining cream or gel and scrunch it through your hair. Yep, from bottom to scalp. I used my current favorite Briogeo - Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Leave–In Defining Cream which smells great and is such a good amount for the price. 3. Grab an oversized t-shirt. The softer the better, but as long as it’s cotton. 4. Turn your head upside-down. Take the bottom two corners of the shirt and tie them around your forehead to your neck like a headband. 5. Grab your hair and “plop” or stuff your hair into the shirt while pulling up the rest of it. 6. Trap your hair in the shirt and wrap the sleeves up around your head like a headband again. 7. Tie the sleeves together in the front! 8. Leave it on for 20-60 minutes. My hair usually takes about 8-10 hours to fully air dry so I let mine sit for an hour. 9. Take your hair out of the shirt and let it air dry the rest of the way. If it gets too crunchy, re-wet it with water to further disperse the curl cream or gel. ...VOILA! My hair looks super voluminous and full. My curls are also really defined and beautiful, I also love how my strands aren’t clumped together so it looks lighter and thinner. I really love how it turned out. Have you used the curly girl method? What’s your favorite curl cream or gel to use with it? #CheriePartner

My Curly Girl Method Routine for healthy curls
My Curly Girl Method Routine for healthy curls
Since puberty, I’ve had thick spiral curls and of course, a boatload of frizz. Like skincare, it’s a journey to find the routine and products that will best accent your natural hair. As always, healthy is beautiful! Focus on healthy habits before you worry about picture perfect results! I helped my curls by following the curly girl method, a way of treating curls that avoids sulfates, silicones, and alcohols that strip hair of natural oils. Now, I’ll fully admit that my hair used to be greasier than a New York Slice. I chalked it up to genetics, and blasted my hair every other day with a lathering shampoo. Before CGM, I’d soak my hair in mousse and pray to the curl gods for a good hair day. What is the curly girl method? As stated above, it avoids products that strip oil from your hair and focuses on balancing your protein and moisture levels for healthy curls. Much like over cleansing your face can kickstart oil overproduction, using harsh shampoos on curls can make your scalp overproduce oil and can frizz out your hair. So, what do you do? Like skincare, it takes different products for different people and a lot of experimentation to get your desired results. Knowledge is power, so do your research. The biggest part of the CGM is co-washing: using conditioner to wash your hair. This cleans your hair without harsh sulfates or silicones in shampoos. You can then follow with leave in conditioners and styling products depending on what you want! It’s extremely unique to your hair and your needs, so learn to listen to your hair like you listen to your skin. Research and knows what your products are supposed to be doing so you can evaluate what works and what doesn’t. So is that it? I’ve had to simplify it down a lot, but there’s plenty of information online to help you get started, even an online bot that scans ingredient lists for CGM-banned compounds so you can find products that work for your budget and your curls. Like always, there are expensive options that may sound appealing, but the most basic CGM can be done for under $10. My routine is currently under $30: NOT YOUR MOTHER'S - Blue Sea Kale & Pure Coconut Water Sea Minerals Conditioner NOT YOUR MOTHER'S - Blue Sea Kale & Pure Coconut Water Sea Minerals Shampoo cantu - Shea Butter for Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream I spent over five months perfecting my routine, and it took a lot of research, experimentation, and asking for advice to get it down pat, so be patient! My routine: 🌀Wash with NYM low-poo (sulfate free) 🌀Condition and leave for five minutes and rinse 🌀Add in some NYM conditioner as a leave in 🌀Scrunch excess water with a cotton t-shirt 🌀Rake in Cantu’s curl activator (just a little bit) 🌀Wrap my head in foil (seriously, it helps my hair absorb product and water through heat) 🌀Unwrap my head after 30min 🌀Air dry And that’s it!
