Cleansing Routine For Acne-Prone Skin✨
I cannot stress just how important cleansing is in a skincare routine. I believe in a double cleanse because, for me, the first step is always to remove my makeup, and then cleanse the skin. Removing your makeup and cleansing your skin in just one step with one cleanser isn’t enough! Removing only makeup from your skin isn’t called deep cleansing as it’s only surface level! Build up of sebum deep in the skin can cause congestion and breakouts in the future! Here is a breakdown of my morning and evening cleansing routine. Morning: A gentle gel cleanser is perfect for the morning because your face shouldn’t be that dirty from sleeping! But as you sleep, there can be build up of oils on the surface of your skin, and possibly retinol and other active ingredients that you applied the night before. It’s important to remove these actives that can be sensitive to sunlight properly before stepping outside during the day! JC Jane Clare - HA Cleansing Gel

My top 2 cleansers for acne/combo skin
Part 2 to my routine posts (see previous posts for full routine and in depth product description/reviews) My skin: I have combo skin with hormonal acne that is mostly on my cheeks and jawline. I have some bumps on my forehead and acne scarring on my cheeks. 🧚♀️Neutrogena - Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser - I have been using this cleanser for close to a year now. It’s true to its name—ultra gentle on the skin! I have never had a reaction to it and the best part is it doesn’t dry out my skin. I have moved this to my PM routine since I’m now incorporating retinol to the PM. The only reason for knocking off one star is that it doesn’t lather much and sometimes I’m not sure it really is doing a deep cleanse. (If you wear makeup most days you might want a second cleanse). 🧚♀️LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser for Acne Prone Skin - Newish addition to the skincare family. I use this in the AM and I really am liking it. It seems to help minimize breakouts, lathers well, and feels like a clean slate in the morning. It works great in addition to my other acne products as well. Reason for 4 stars is that I’ve noticed it dries out the skin around my nose and corners of my mouth (so I add extra hydrating moisturizer there at the end), and it’s super liquidy—like as soon as I open the cap it comes pouring out. So I wish it had a pump or something a little less messy (I do worry about traveling with it). But overall worth it and well priced! Part 3 will feature my HOLY GRAIL Clinique products that you need if you want to control your acne!
Finally creating an actual skincare routine
I’m somewhat new to skincare. For the longest time I had the clearest skin but after college I started to get hormonal acne and some skin texture issues. Morning: Cleanser- LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser for Acne Prone Skin. I just got it a few days ago and so far I like it! Prior to this I was using Neutrogena - Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser (which I still keep in my shower for after working out-this cleans my skin well but isn’t anything crazy special) Next: CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion - I really like this!! It’s absorbs quick and isn’t drying, often these types of products make my skin a little itchy but not this one! (I still use PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator but I do this every other day in the evening, it makes my skin very sensitive but it does work well) Spot Treatment: CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel - I’ve been using this for 2 weeks and I love it!! I notice a difference in any new breakouts, it stops them right in their tracks. Feels great too and soaks in nicely. Serums: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - trusty product that I will always use. I’m now adding in bareMinerals - Skinlongevity Long Life Herb Serumto help with my skin appearance and fine lines (~2 weeks of use and so far I like it, it’s hydrating and soaks into the skin. There’s a light scent that I don’t mind either) Moisturizer: CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+- using for 2 weeks and I really it! It’s gel based so it’s absorbs right into the skin. I don’t like heavy moisturizers because they make me oily, so this one is great! Keeps my skin happy even in the colder weather! Nighttime: Same cleanser as morning Same clarifying lotion/exfoliate as mentioned in morning, and same spot treatment Moisturizer: NEW unreleased bareMinerals Ageless Phyto-Retinol Face Cream. I got a full size product for free during a featured event, I believe this will retail for around $62 and be released in the new year. I’ve been using it for 2 weeks and my skin seems to be liking it! It’s a thicker cream so I prefer it only at night. There is a somewhat strong perfume-like scent which I don’t normally mind, but if I use my PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator prior to the cream, it does make my skin a little tingly/itchy. I like that it’s a plant based “retinol” and is less harsh on the skin. Hoping this one works out! Other products: The Ordinary - Retinol 0.5% in Squalane- Bought this prior to getting the bareMinerals Phyto-Retinol Cream. I haven’t tried it yet so no review. Not sure where to add this to my routine if/when I decide to use it. Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serum- I got this before my breakouts but haven’t used it since, might try to add
Battle of the Face Cleansers
My skin type is combo oily that can lean more dry during the weather changes or just randomly. My skin concerns are acne, oiliness throughout the day and also dehydration. I’ve ranked the face washes I currently have open right now based on how they worked for me personally (starting from favorite). My all time favorite is COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser because I can actually tell a difference in my skin, unlike the other cleansers and can be used AM and PM. . COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser Key Ingredients: Tea Tree and Beta Hydroxy Acids (work together to refine pores, control oil, and soften skin). Texture/Consistency: Gel that turns to foam Scent: Very strong Tea Tree scent Price: $14 for 5.07 oz Experience: I use this as my AM cleanser and it does a good job of removing the previous night’s skincare and having a new base for my AM skincare. It foams a lot, so only need a small amount of product. Since I’ve been using this, my face has gotten more smooth and not as oily throughout the day. I knocked off a star since the scent is so strong of tea tree. Repurchase/Recommend?: I will repurchase this and recommend this because it’s a great value and only need a small amount of product. My combo oily skin also agrees with this formula, I’m so excited to use it this summer and see how and if it helps my skin. . MARIO BADESCU - Glycolic Foaming Cleanser Key Ingredients: Glycolic acid (exfoliates the skin and dissolves dulling dead skin cells to help refine pores and retexturize uneven skin), and a soothing blend of chamomile, marshmallow, safe, St. John’s wort, and yarrow extracts (work together to provide additional rejuvenating benefits that help re-balance and leave skin radiant). Texture/Consistency: Gel that turns to foam Scent: Price: $16 for 6 oz / 177 mL Experience: I use this maybe 2-3 times a week (as directed for oily skin) and haven’t noticed much of a difference in my skin. It performs just like any other cleanser to me. I use it as my second cleanse and it’s just meh. Honestly not impressed with this and glad I got it as a free sample. Repurchase/Recommend?: I would not repurchase or recommend this, I haven’t noticed any special benefit over any other cleanser. . philosophy - Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Cleanser Key Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (helps prevent breakouts). Texture/Consistency: Gel Scent: Very strong orange scent Price: $22 for 8 oz Experience: Even after using this a couple times a week as my second cleanse at night, I’ve only seen a minimal amount of reduction in my acne and can’t contribute it solely to this. The scent is so strong that I can smell it for a while after washing my face. It can be difficult to completely wash off the face. Repurchase/Recommend?: No, too expensive for what it does.

Gets Rid Of Redness!
Why I Bought It: I bought this awhile ago while I was looking for something to help me out with my redness because I felt like I looked like I was always blushing. My Experience: When I first bought it I hated it. It made my skin so dry to the point my face was peeling in my drier areas(I have combo skin so my cheeks are my drier areas). So I stopped using it. But recently I started using it again and it does make me a little dry still but I go in with a moisturizer after and my face feels better. The redness has gone down so much it looks like I don’t even have it anymore. And it has helped the occasional breakouts that I get. I also noticed that my pores feel less large and my nose has less blackheads. Is It Worth It?: Neutrogena - Oil Free Acne Wash, Redness Soothing Facial Cleanser I would say yes if you want to get rid of redness and acne. I didn’t give it all five stars just because I feel like it does make my face dry and tight without a moisturizer. @Walmart for $6.97

Face wash for oily or combination skin - Caudali
CAUDALIE - Vinopure Pore Purifying Gel Cleanser Current cleanser that I’ve been using non stop. It’s perfect and everything I need in a cleanser; gentle, doesn’t have a strong scent, makes my face feel clean, and doesn’t make it dry or tight. This cleanser is @caudalie ’s newest addition to their vinopure line, a line that helps with blemish and oil control. My skin is currently more on combination side, and I also have blemishes/acne so this is great for me. This has been working great for my skin. It leaves it feeling calm and clean. I also have less breakouts since I started using this cleanser, so it definitely does what it promises! Really happy with how this has been working for me, and definitely excited to try more from the collection.
CAUDALIE-Vinopure Pore Purifying Gel Cleanser
Is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that occurs as a natural compound in plants. It has direct activity as an anti-inflammatory agent and acts as a topical antibacterial agent due to it’s ability to promote exfoliation. Benefits: 🔸 Fights acne 🔸 Decreses oil secretion 🔸 Reduces inflammation and redness 🔸 Removes dead skin cells Side effects: can irritate (peeling, redness) and dry on very sensitive skin. So, this ingredient is best known for it's exfoliating and bacteria-fighting powers, I like it because it’s not an aggressive acid and it works well cleaning the pores and get rid of pimples. CAUDALIE - Vinopure Pore Purifying Gel Cleanser This gel cleanser contains 100% natural salicylic acid, helps to minimize the appearance of pores, blemishes and oil. It is ideal for oily skin and combination. The texture of this cleanser is lightweight gel that foams when applied on damp skin. I really don't like the way this smells, but works well by cleaning my pores and drying pimples faster, without irritation and without drying my skin. After using it my skin feels clean and fresh. Although it contains essential oils such as the beauty elixir, but this product doesn’t cause me irritation or redness. Price: $ 28 (5 oz). TULA SKINCARE - Keep It Clear Acne Foam Cleanser Gentle foam cleanser with salicylic acid and licorice, treats regular or occasional breakouts leaving skin looking soft and glowing. Contains 2% salicylic acid, one of the highest for sale without a prescription. This is recommended for oily skin, combination, mature, dry and acne prone. It has a foam texture, making it easy to apply and remove. The aroma of this cleanser is strong, it smells like tea tree oil. I like it because it doesn't dry my skin when I use it either, and it leaves it very fresh. It has helped me to stop new pimples. Price: $ 34 (6.3 oz). THE inkey LIST - Salicylic Acid Acne + Pore Cleanser Lightly foaming cleanser that removes makeup and dirt, helping to reduce blackheads, acne and blemishes while unclogging pores. They recommend it for oily, combination and normal skin. This one like the previous one also has 2% salicylic acid. I just started using this but it has given me very good results in the pimples that come out occasionally without irritating or drying my skin, leaving it soft. It has a light and clean fragrance. Price: $ 9.99 (5 oz). This is by far the cheapest of the three, and it really works just as well as the other two. I like the results I get with them since they don’t irritate my skin. In my opinion any of the 3 are a good investment, I just started using the cleanser of The Inkey list, but I could say that it’s the one I like the most, because it has a subtle smell and leaves my skin soft after using it, in addition to having a good price.
TULA SKINCARE-Keep It Clear Acne Foam Cleanser
Would not purchase again
I bought this in hopes that it would clear up my acne and help control my oil. I liked that it came in a pump (except my pump was broken lol). It took forever to come off and it left a residue on my skin so I had to follow up with another cleanser to get the residue off. After washing my face with this cleanser my face felt soft, but extremely dry. I would not recommend this product to any skin type, because if it dried my oily skin out, it would definitely dry out normal and dry skin:((
CeraVe-Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin
These 3 are the triple threat of my cleansing routine. I use the biossance gel in the mornings and I’ve been using it with no problems for close to 3 months. I purchased it after taking the Sephora online quiz for acne problematic skin and after having tried and failed with all the recommendations I picked this one and hit the jack pot! After using and breaking out from the drunk elephant cleanser I went right back to this one and cleared up right away! You never know how good something was until it’s gone. Then in the evenings I take my makeup off with the Dermalogica Pre Cleanse gel. I prefer this then other balms I’ve tried. It’s easy to squirt out of the bottle and less messy! It does it’s job at cleaning even my fullest coverage makeup. Then I was the remaining debris off with the caudalie foaming cleanser. It had a light, fresh scent that makes my face feel so clean and pampered. Unlike most folks, I like my products to have a little smell to them. Makes me feel so fancy! So far, no problems and I’m liking these three together. Very light feeling and gets the job done!
