Purging vs. breakouts
I found this nifty chart on Instagram and though I would give this a share! The actual term for skin purging is a reaction to an active ingredient that is increasing skin cell turn over. As the skin cell turn over rate speeds up, ones skin will start shedding dead skin cells faster then normal. Skin purging looks like any type of acne. It can look like small, tender, red bumps on the skin and can be accompanied by black heads and white heads. Some other ingredients that aren’t listed in the chart above that can cause skin purging are benzoyl peroxide, lactic acid, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. Chemical peels and laser treatments can produce a similar effect on the skin. Dermatologists say that skin purging lasts 4-6 weeks or about 28 days. If you are experiencing a purge that lasts longer then 6 weeks you should consult a dermatologist. Breakouts are when the openings of hair follicles on the face and body becomes clogged and blocked with oil and dead skin cells. When the clogged pore becomes infected with bacteria, it will form a pimple. There are numerous reasons that cause breakouts such as hormonal imbalances, unhealthy diets, excessive stress, excessive production of sebum, upon many more things. Same as purging, breakouts should only last 28 days (4-6 weeks). If a breakout last longer then 6 weeks consult a dermatologist. You should also discontinue the use of products that are exacerbating you breakouts.
mackenzieeSuper helpful! And do you have any products for avoiding breakouts?

Elizabeth200To be honest, I am not sure of any products specifically. What I do know is a good skincare routine is most important when you are prone to breakouts. Doing your skincare regimen both in the morning and the night will help to remove access oil, keep your pores clear, and even help speed up the healing process of exciting blemishes. It is very very important to stay on top of your skincare regimen by doing it everyday! I skipped two days and I broke out really badly on my chin! That is a prime example of how important it is to keep up with your skincare no matter what.

MY BEST SKINCARE TIPS 🧖🏽♀️
Invest in quality skincare: This doesn’t necessarily mean expensive skincare simply skincare good ingredients. Use products tailored to your concerns and needs. Wash your face: There should be no need for you not to be washing your face, especially at bed time. I once read that sleeping with your makeup on ages you 2 weeks. I’m not 100% sure if it’s true but it’s something that’s always stuck with me. Take it easy with the actives: If you have decided to take the plunge into using products with active ingredients ie: retinoids, Vitamin C etc take it slowly! While it might be enticing to head right for the strongest start with a lower percentage and work your way up. This will cause less irritation.
