Super skincare combos!! ❤️
I keep this chart handy when I have certain skin issues! My favorite pairing on this chart is...... Retinol + Niacinamide 💞💞 These two were absolutely made for each other!! Niacinamide can help reduce the redness and the irritation many experience when using retinols. Niacinamide can also enhance retinols therapeutic effects!! Here is how to make the most out of this match! Use niacinamide twice a day for a couple of weeks prior to starting treatment with retinol. Continue to use niacinamide as a ‘buffer’ during treatment with retinol. Niacinamide and retinol can be used together with a five-minute gap between application but are likely to be just as effective if you use them at separate times of the day. If you are applying niacinamide and retinol together at the same time then it is best to apply the niacinamide FIRST if it is in the form of a serum or LAST if it is in the form of a moisturizer. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily when using retinol (you should be using sunscreen daily anyway). If you aren’t using sunscreen honestly there isn’t really a point to try and combat anti-aging etc. If you are new to retinols, it’s best to start by using once a week and you can work up to more from there. Especially if you have sensitive skin ❤️ What’s your favorite pairing from this chart? 🤔
Best Way to HYDRATE
Hydrating cleansers and moisturizers are a great way of hydrating your skin on a long term basis, but what do you do if you just want a quick way to add some extra moisture/hydration to your skin care routine? Some may say to use a serum like The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5or DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum. Although serums as such do provide your skin with extra moisture on a temporary basis (and perhaps long term depending on the product), are they really the most effective? Do they make it easier for your skin to absorb the hydrating components of your moisturizer? In my experience, they do not. So what does do the trick? Answer? Hydrating mists infused with hyaluronic acid! The one I use is e.l.f. - Hydrating Coconut Mist and it is my MUST HAVE e.l.f. Cosmetics product! Whereas serums may add some extra moisture to your skin, a mist literally dampens your skin, leaving it feeling wet right after use. And as this mist has hyaluronic acid in it, it will absorb the moisture from the products applied following its use. Therefore, pairing a hydrating mist with hyaluronic acid & a hydrating moisturizer afterwards will help your skin reach its peak hydration. Moreover, the mist I use by e.l.f. is also infused with Vitamin E, which has its own amazing benefits in skincare. When I used DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Seruminstead of a mist, I did not achieve the same level of hydration. As someone who’s skin dries up really quickly, a hydrating moisturizer itself is not enough for my skin. When I used the B Hydra, I had to reapply my moisturizer a few hours later as my skin was left quenching for some extra moisture. I do not face this problem when using my mist. In conclusion, Best Way to Hydrate = Hydrating Mist Infused With Hyaluronic Acid + Hydrating Moisturizer 💦 UPDATE: There have been a lot of comments on how there are fragrances and other ingredients in this mist that can be irritating for the skin and bad for acne. Although this may be true, I have been using this mist for about 5 months and have not personally faced any of these negative side effects. That being said, everyone’s skin is different so be careful with what works for you. Also, there was a comment on how cerave should be enough to hydrate my skin. As I said earlier, everyone’s skin is different and a cleanser and moisturizer is not enough for MY skin. So I take the extra measure of using a mist:) Just sharing my personal experience!
