Hi guys! I am Dr. Cula, a dermatology resident in New York. I am here to debunk all skincare myths but more importantly, here to foster excellent skincare practices. November is National Healthy Skin Month! So, I thought to kick off my page with a skincare challenge to promote healthy skincare habits among Cherie users. Join me on this 6 week skincare challenge for healthy and more beautiful skin. The challenge consists of three main steps to be done in the morning and evening (swipe to see). I added the HA serum to the evening regimen to minimize skin irritation and dryness from the retinoid, which can be exacerbated by the colder weather. So, why join me on this skincare challenge?...Because: 🥰 skincare routine is self-care. 👯‍♀️To slow down aging, consistent use of retinoids will help take the years off 💅🏽Healthy, glowy skin is a great confidence booster! Pro tips: consistency is key to reaping the benefits. Your skin may get worse before it gets better if you are new to retinoids. Key is not to stop and to keep pushing through it! “just wash your face! just drink some water!” we’ve all heard it and seen it - advice that doesn’t help. But honestly, just washing your face IS NOT ENOUGH to treat acne, scarring, dry skin, or whatever problem you have. Washing your face for 30-60 seconds twice a day doesn’t give your skin enough time with active ingredients. you have to treat your issues, not just slap some soap on your face for a few seconds. Hopefully this isn’t news to you! everyone’s skin is different and there is no perfect answer or perfect product that is going to solve ALL your problems. Custom stuff like Curology - Curology formulacan help, but you can’t one step skincare. every basic routine has (and this is for oily skin like me, but same concept for all) 1) cleanser TATCHA - The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser 2) treatment REVOLUTION - Targeted Blemish Serum 2% Salicylic Acid 3) moisturizer dermalogica - Clear Start Oil Clearing Matte Moisturizer SPF 15 4) protection Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 One product can make a huge difference but its not going to fulfill ALL of your skin’s needs!

Healing acne and leftover scarring
In high school, I never had problematic skin. It wasn’t until I became an adult that acne presented itself and it was everywhere. My forehead, chin, cheeks, neck, etc. I felt really ugly and would put makeup on to hide everything. I never left the house unless I had a full face. As silly as it sounds, it does put a toll on your mental health and self worth. After years of trying these products that promised me the world, I decided that I was going to go back to the basics and I started using 3 products. Yes, just 3 products. I used Cerave hydrating facial cleanser, zapzyt acne treatment gel and cerave daily moisturizing lotion. I really started to notice a huge difference with my acne cleaning up. From there, I slowly added active ingredients like the ordinary’s niacinamide and zinc as well as Sunday Riley’s Luna to help with my scarring as well as supergoop’s sunscreen. My skin is not perfect, but it has come a long way.

Sweat plus heat and chafing makes a cocktail of maskne and irritation for my sensitive skin, so I focus on calming ingredients and layering lightweight hydration. My combo skin loves layered products since it’s less likely to clog my pores than one heavy product yet really hydrates my drier areas. This routine is added fragrance- and essential oil-free, as I avoid those two categories of ingredients. • CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser is a gentle cleanser that allows me to scrub off sweat and previously applied sunscreen without stripping my skin or overcleansing. Its humectants start binding water into my skin, making it wonderful when my skin feels hot/chafed. • The Ordinary - Marine Hyaluronics uses marine-derived humectants and amino acids to help pull water into skin, without the tacky finish of their HA serum. Love this for how lightweight it is, it layers beautifully with other serums with no pilling and mixes well with anything I want to dilute! • PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster minimizes pores, reduces the prevalence of acne, increases collagen synthesis, and controls oil production. This is my HG, my “if you could only use one” serum, so fantastic. It is so, so calming too, making it fantastic for angry skin. • PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum is a light serum-lotion that contains multiple ceramides, a variety of emollients (oils, shea butter, etc), and fatty acids to augment the skin barrier. Supporting the skin barrier reduces the likelihood of skin issues like irritation, dryness, and even acne since acne can be linked to inflammation! • VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream contains squalane oil, aloe vera, green tea extract, and jojoba oil- the aloe vera specifically comes through heavily in this refreshing, bouncy gel that skin soaks up easily. Oily skin would especially benefit from the lightweight water-dominant formula. Tip: put it in the fridge if you’re using it at home, it’s cooling and so good during the summer. • PURITO - Comfy Water Sun Block is an oily skin gift! It’s a medium-weight cream that’s mostly water, utilizing zinc oxide as its sun-protectant active to make this a surprisingly lightweight mineral sunscreen. I’ve not noticed a white cast and it has a semi-matte finish that minimizes shine but doesn’t make skin flat. #CheriePartner

Hi guys! Here’s my core skincare routine for most mornings. I’ll throw in extra products or swap some out according to my skin’s needs, but this is it about 90% of the time because consistency is key to seeing results. My current concerns are acne and post-acne red marks, as well as dryness from tret. 1. I cleanse with Dewy·er - Spirulina Face Wash . I got this because it’s touted as a miracle product for hormonal acne, and while I really like it, it’s not enough on its own to tackle my hormonal acne on my jawline. It lathers very well and doesn’t leave my face dry or tight, though. 2. Next I use PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator . I love this for gentle, everyday exfoliation and blackhead control. 3. LilyAna Naturals - Vitamin C Serum is my favorite vitamin C serum—it’s affordable, effective, and doesn’t smell like hot dog water! It also has vitamin E and hyaluronic acid. 4. I use Neutrogena - Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Spot Gel on the days I have a few pimples I need to get rid of fast. BUT note that if I use this, I don’t use the vitamin C because benzoyl peroxide oxidizes vitamin C and makes them both ineffective. 5. I moisturize withPAULA'S CHOICE - Omega+ Complex Moisturizer , the only moisturizer that’s been able to actually get rid of my flaky tret skin. I love this stuff! 6. Last, I protect with PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ , the only sunscreen I’ll ever purchase for the rest of my life. Seriously, the hype is real. What do you guys think? I’m happy to talk more about any of these products or my routine as a whole!

I’ve posted about many of these products individually, but I thought I’d share how I combine them in my relatively simple routine. For reference, my skin is very finnicky (eczema-prone, acne-prone, and very reactive). 🌤SKINCEUTICALS - Hydrating B5 Gel Hydrating Gel With Hyaluronic Acid The only reason for the docked star, is the prohibitive price. My mom got this for me as a gift when my skin was freaking out. It’s a fantastic hydrating serum that is thick and soothing! I apply after a thorough rinse to damp skin. When I run out, I’ll replace this either with Maelove’s hydrating serum (as the ingredients are similar) or I may try out their popular Glow Maker serum! 🌤DESERT ESSENCE - Organic Jojoba Oil Pat on 3 drops of jojoba oil then use my roller around my eyes and brow bone. 🌤KINSHIP - Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturzing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32 Smooth an even layer for extra moisture and sun protection. The initial shine will dry down and give a nice non-greasy glow. +++ 🌙ACURE - Seriously Soothing Cleansing Cream Massage this in for 30 sec - 1 min, focusing on the T zone and where I’m wearing makeup 🌙CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream (repairing) OR MAELOVE - Night Renewer (exfoliating) with DESERT ESSENCE - Organic Jojoba Oil I dot one of the creams around my face, add a few drops of oil and blend together. You can also “lock in” your moisturizer by patting the oil on top, but since these creams are a bit heavier, I like to mix them so everything has a chance to absorb. 🌤🌙Vaseline - Lip Therapy, Advanced Healing Skin Protectant I use this all the time- only wish is it came in the cocoa butter formula! I may try out one of the tins.. but seriously- no chapped lips in the 2 years I’ve been using this! I’d love to hear questions/comments/feedback :)

Hello Cherie 👋🏻 Figured my first post would be best as a morning routine post! I like to keep products at a minimum since I’ve found, through trial & error, that less is definitelyyyy more. 1. First, I wash my face with cold water No cleanser here; I think I do well enough with cleansing at night & find it dries out my ~already dry~ skin if I were to cleanse twice a day. 2. Clean&Clear Persa-gel 10 I’ve been using this for quite some time now on my cheeks & around my mouth to help with fighting acne. I think (🤷🏻‍♀️) it works ??¿¿ I mean, no acne soooo (🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️) 3. Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer with SPF 50 for Sensitive Skin I JUST switched to this moisturizer as I had been using the chemical based version and since the switch I’ve been experiencing EXTREMELY dry skin. Don’t know if it’s the drastic change to hot weather or the switch from chemical to mineral based formula. Let me know what you think!
