Battle of the Face Masks

My skin type is combo oily that can lean more dry during the weather changes or just randomly. My skin concerns are acne, oiliness throughout the day and also dehydration. I’ve ranked the face washes I currently have open right now based on how they worked for me personally (starting from favorite). My favorite out of this bunch is the philosophy - Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Mask
because can see a difference when I use the mask, but it’s nothing major especially for the price tag. . philosophy - Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Mask
Key Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (for acne and blackhead removal) and White Clay (removes dead and dry skin cells). Texture/Consistency: Cream with granules Scent: None Price: $18 for 1 oz / 30 mL (mini size) OR $35 for 2.5 oz / 75 mL Experience: I haven’t noticed much, if any, difference in my pores honestly. I do notice that my skin looks more radiant and glows after removing this mask because the abundant amount of granules give a nice exfoliation. Repurchase/Recommend: It’s nice, but nothing special and don’t think it’s worth the high price tag because it’s not on the face long. I’d rather put that money towards an actual exfoliator than a mask. . e.l.f. - Hydrating Bubble Mask
Key Ingredients: Glycerin (for hydration and protection) Texture/Consistency: Gel that turns into bubbles Scent: Soapy Price: $14 for 1.69 oz / 50 g Experience: The sensation of the gel turning into bubbles tickles and can easily get out of control and get into your eyelashes. I don’t notice any difference in the hydration of my skin. It is easy to wash off, but the packaging is finicky and randomly decides to stop dispensing product and you have to keep pressing down until more comes out. It also requires quite a bit of product to fully coat the face so not sure how long it will last for. Repurchase/Recommend: No I didn’t notice any difference and the packaging is difficult. . FREEMAN - Matcha Ice Cream Melting Sugar Face Mask
Key Ingredients: Matcha extract (helps clear pores) Texture/Consistency: Thick gel with gummy flakes Scent: Sweet Price: $3.99 for 1.18 fl oz / 3-4 uses Experience: This mask is so thick and difficult to remove off the face! It made me ever want to use it. I also didn’t notice any sort of difference after using this mask. The style packaging is really nice and convenient and you can definitely get more uses than the recommended. It also claims that the flakes dissolve, but they never did for me. Repurchase/Recommend: No, too difficult to remove and didn’t see any results.

Today's TJMaxx Haul!
Today I went to TJ Maxx looking for nothing in particular (you let that store tell you what you need) and I found these products! I'm so excited for my next evening off so I can try out the e.l.f. - Hydrating Bubble Mask! I tried it out on the back of my hand and man it looks fun!! I was intrigued by the BECCA - Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector. I really want to put it to the test and see how well it keeps my t-zone matte! Lastly, I found SEPHORA COLLECTION - Matte Perfection Full Coverage Foundation. I can't wait to try it out and see how I did on shade matching! All of these products have never been opened or used and in total, cost lest than $15 all together! I love shopping skincare and makeup on a budget!
🌊 Favorite Masks: HYDRATE!🌊
e.l.f. - Hydrating Bubble Mask claims to hydrate and nourish the skin while cleansing dirt from the skin and making the skin glow ✨✨The product is an opaque gel and the consistency of the gel is simple and smooth. this product is that it foams up almost instantaneously. After applying, the product foams up within seconds into thin fuzzy bubbles. The instructions say to leave the product on for 5-10 min and when I tried to keep it on for more than 5 min I couldn’t. Why? Because it’s too itchy!!! 😳 the bubbles are so tiny and they start to pop after a while, making it super ticklish 🤪.That’s the only thing I did not like about this product. So now when I use it, I only keep it on for around 3 min. After the time was up and I massaged and washed the product off my skin. My skin felt cleansed and soft. Co'L CANDY O'LADY - O&Young ACME Beta-Glucan Intensive Moisture Mask Set is such an interesting sheet mask. It claims to hydrate with beta-glucan while removing skin debris at the same time?! When I opened this mask I noticed that the serum is sooooo viscous and sticky😅. The sheet is also extremly thin (which I love) so it stuck to my face super well and I did not have any problems with the sheet slipping down or moving around. After using the sheet for the whole timeframe which is 20 min, I noticed that the sheet was still soaked and full of serum so I squeezed it and omg so much came out! This sheet was extremely hydrating and soothing. It did not cause my sensitive skin to break out or become irritated so that was a plus. I did end up washing the serum off though since it was so much and kinda sticky which I don’t like. When comparing the two products, the sheet mask was more convienent since it required no further steps to wash it off after using it, the e.l.f mask was required to be washed off afterwards. I prefered the sheet mask since the e.l.f. mask requires that extra step and it makes my face itchy. Both are great masks for hydration though and I would recommend both since they don't cause breakouts nor irritation for sensitive skinned people. 👍🏻
Red Hot Nope!
I’ve loved Philosophy for as long as I can remember. The only fragrance that I’ve ever bought multiple bottles of is their Pure Grace (including fabulous lotion, beautiful body wash... even deodorant!) I love their mission and message. But... friends... I learned today. Two things happened today... 1) I was looking for a good wash off pore mask and 2) I got an email that for today only, all of Philosophy was 5x points at Ulta. Even though I’ve never really tried their skin care, I’ve always loved the brand, so the philosophy - Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Mask seemed like a no brainer. I was so very wrong. The claim is that it extracts and tightens pores dramatically- even in just one use - using a slew of natural products and salicylic acid. You can pretty much park a dump truck in my pores, so I was here for all of that. I purchased, raced home, washed my face and prepared to be wowed! The verdict? If you are the type of person who enjoys spending an exorbitant amount of money to rub broken slabs of concrete on your face... this is the mask for you! If you’ve ever dreamt of becoming a Medusa victim... here is your chance! It’s so gritty that I felt like I couldn’t get it off my face without a chisel. Once I (finally) got it completely rinsed off, my skin felt dried out and quite honestly, emotionally wounded. I had to cheer it up with an intensive moisture mask and some pure hyaluronic acid in order to get things back to normal. In short, not a fan. But thanks for the extra points, Ulta!
Secrets🤫🤫How I Remove Pesky Blackheads
While I know that no one has flawless skin, I feel like I have an excessive number of blackheads, and I’m not sure why. I wash my face 2x per day; I use toner, masks, cleansers. It seems like no matter what I do; nothing helps diminish my blackheads. That was until I found my holy grail blackhead buster.  My Skin Type: I have combination skin at its finest. My cheeks are super dry, but my nose and forehead have enlarged pores and tend to get shiny throughout the day. I do have to be careful what products I use on my skin because I sometimes tend to experience redness and sensitivity.  How I Treat My Pores: For me, I have to focus mostly on my T-zone. That’s my main problem area. My favorite skincare product for combating my annoying blackheads is the philosophy - Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Mask. It’s an exfoliating clay mask formulated with salicylic acid treatment. The salicylic acid does mean this mask could be drying on the skin. I specifically use it on my T-zone and not on my cheeks. It has very tiny exfoliating beads that help wash away my annoying blackheads. I use this mask around 2x per week to keep my skin looking great without it over-drying!  How I Use The Mask: One more thing that I love about this mask is that it only takes 5-10 minutes to work its magic! I love potent skincare products that do what they claim and do it fast. I can throw on this mask while I answer my morning emails, and my skin is prepped, clean, and ready for the day in under 10 minutes!

A little background about thisGLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask . It is a hydrating and lightly exfoliating nighttime mask that retails for $45 USD for 80 ml and $22 USD for 30 ml. It’s also made for all skin types. I used this mask once a week for a month and a half. My first impression was that, like most of their products, it smells so good I want to eat it. Their watermelon scent is just like sour watermelon candy and not too overpowering either. Upon my first application, I noticed that it has a very thick slip to it, similar to a facial oil. I thought this was the natural separation but even after mixing the mask, the same thing happened. I don’t think it affected the performance of the mask, but it did make washing it off my hands a little bit of a hassle. Just make sure to mix it well to minimize this! I have sensitive skin, so I opted to wear the mask for about 3 hours instead of overnight. I used a nickel-sized amount, and that was enough to cover my whole face. One feature of this mask is that it’s supposed to be pillow-proof. I haven’t tested that myself, but I can say that the mask dries down completely and no residue comes off when I tap or rub my face. If you plan to wear it to sleep, I recommend waiting at least ten minutes before coming in contact with your sheets! And unlike some exfoliating masks, this one didn’t give me the “exfoliating” sensation as it dried down. All in all, this mask is pretty comfortable to wear throughout the night (or day) and it isn’t tightening on the face. Towards the end of the 3 hours, I noticed some peeling around my inner cheek area and forehead. Glow Recipe said that this effect is normal – it’s just the exfoliating part of the mask doing job. I used a warm washcloth to remove the mask (didn’t experience the weird slip like when washing it off my hands) and saw the usual things I experience after face masks. My skin was soft and looked a little more luminescent. One difference I did see was that the pores around my chin were significantly cleared up! I usually get most of my white heads in that area and this mask totally erased them. That was an unexpected yet huge plus for this mask! For the following weeks, I went through the same process and saw similar results each time. The mask is good for upkeep in the sense that my pores stayed clean and I kept my skin cell turnover high. I wouldn’t call this mask a hero product, but it certainly is a pretty darn good one! I really enjoy the experience of putting it on and would recommend the mini size to anyone who wants to try. A little goes a long way and it’s not something you use everyday. I like mild products like this that still allows me to get the resurfacing effect I’m looking for every now and then. And it’s such a cute present to gift your fellow skincare pals :) #CherieCreator

olehenriksen Cold Plunge Pore
olehenriksen Cold Plunge Pore Mask . 💦contains clay, snow lotus extract, lactic & salicylic acids, eucalyptus, green tea, algae, alpine willow & Irish moss 💦has a light minty scent & cooling effect on the skin (but doesn’t tingle) 💦the directions say to leave it on for 15 minutes then add cool water to lather & rinse off; both times I have used it I have left it on for longer b/c it doesn’t completely dry so your skin doesn’t feel tight or hard. It does take a little manpower to get off (& is a little messy)-I went through 2 washcloths to get it off & both were bright blue afterwards, but the color came right out after 1 cycle in the washing machine (personally, I think the fun bright blue color makes it worth a little mess 😉) 💦I love the way my skin feels after removing-it is so soft & smooth, my pores look clearer & skin feels overall refreshed. It’s supposed to help control oil but I haven’t noticed this yet-maybe with more uses I will be able to tell a difference-i will update if so! I will be repurchasing this! .

Product: Mamonde Pore Clean Clay Mask 🤤 Application was a breeze! This multitasking wash-off clay mask absorbs excess oil, purifies and polishes without dehydrating skin. My skin definitely feels less oily after wash 💦 THIS MASK IS CRAZY GOOD. I don't wanna be TMI but I need to share my experiences with this one. As soon as I applied, left it on for 15-20 min and washed it off.. it sounds nasty but my pores started to unclog and like you can see the pull out all the oil (you can see it up close with a mirror) after that I used my facial vaccum to suck all the nasties out and they legit just came out. I was shook but after cleaning my face I saw how much justice it has done to my clogged pores. It did work for me, but we all know sometimes it doesn't work out for some people! If you're open to trying it, give it a shot! ✨

The product✨ Sand and Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask. This mask is meant to be porerefining, detoxifying and brightening by using ingredients like Australian pink clay, kelp, plum and pomegranate. It’s a pretty pink color and feels just like a thick clay mask and it has a slightly sweet smell. ••• My thoughts✨ I got a few uses out of this sample and I feel like my skin looked brighter after each use, but I’m unsure of the affect it had on my pores because I couldn’t use it consistently for a long period of time. This wasn’t as drying as some other clay masks and it applies nicely to the skin, so that I did enjoy. I know clay masks are great especially for oily/acne prone skin like mine, but I just never feel myself reach for them... so between this being a small sample and me having other clay masks I probably won’t purchase this product, at least not right away. It goes for $50 for 60grams which to me is kinda expensive 🥴 SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask

How to use: Pull your hair back and apply a thick even layer to your entire face. Wait 20-30 minutes for the mask to dry and then starting at the edges peel off. ~After use results~ Any dirt and oil is removed from skin Skin looks calm and cute Skin looks smoother and brighter Pores are clear Soothes skin ~My thoughts~ This mask was absolutely amazing. As soon as I put in on I felt it doing it’s magic. It was not messy to put on but it was a little sticky. I would recommend using a silicone brush to apply this mask. It dried very quickly but it needed a full 30 mins to really set. When I pulled it off it was painless and it all came off in one piece. After using this mask my skin was glowing. My skin felt softer, calm and bright. This mask also helped my acne a lot after just one use. My pores also looked and felt tighter. I struggle with having big pores so I loved that this mask helped tighten them. Another thing I love about this mask is that it is made with all natural ingredients. This mask is 20 dollars US and 30 dollars Canadian. Even though this mask is a little bit expensive, you definitely get what you pay for. This is my new favorite peel off mask and I would definitely buy it again!

Some of you have been sleeping on The Body Shop and it shows 🥴 The Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask is an incredible detoxifying mask for active breakouts and refining uneven texture. It’s a tingling charcoal clay mask infused with bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves and organic tea tree oil that is meant to draw out impurities and refine the appearance of pores while lending the skin some glow. It’s also great for oily skin types as the charcoal absorbs excess oil without disturbing the natural oil production or overly drying out the skin. It’s texture is thick and chunky. It REALLY reminds me a lot of GlamGLow Supermud (which was the first detoxifying mask I tried that I felt really worked but in my opinion is pretty overpriced!!). I bought this mask about 5 or 6 months ago because it had an average of almost 5 star reviews on both Ulta and the Body Shop website based on hundreds of reviews! I can definitely see why this mask is rated so highly. At $28 for 2.6oz (The Body Shop is 40% off + free shipping for Black Friday!!! $16.80!!!) it’s a steal and the glass packaging is really a nice touch. This mask has been great for minimizing the appearance of pores and unclogging congested skin. I definitely feel like my complexion appears brighter and more radiant after using this mask. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a good detoxifying mask, it doesn’t suck the life out of my skin but does remove the unnecessary impurities from the skin’s surface. I think it would be a great addition to any combo/oily skin user’s weekly routine. As for the ingredients, the first few are water, kaolin, Moroccan lava clay, magnesium aluminum silicate and denatured alcohol. While I typically avoid denatured alcohol in my products due to its drying effects, I don’t mind it in this formula as it doesn’t feel like it dries my skin out too much and feels like it just assists in the absorption process. It’s got antioxidants like camellia sinensis leaf, pumice, gentle exfoliation from the Arfania spinosa shell powder and charcoal powder, and others. The ingredient list also does contain parfum/fragrance, but again in a product that I wash off and that I’m using for the detoxifying agents in it, my skin can tolerate exposure to those kinds of ingredients but I would as always recommend you patch test your products first to see if your skin has any reaction to them, particularly if you have sensitive skin. While the ingredients list isn’t remarkable or super noteworthy, it does do the job it sets out to do at a fraction of the price other products with virtually the same ingredients list do. For that reason, I’d give this mask a 5/5 and I will continue to recommend it to those looking for an affordable charcoal mask
