Battle of the Hyped Sunscreens

Collegeskincare
My skin type is combo oily that can lean more dry during the weather changes or just randomly. My skin concerns are acne, oiliness throughout the day and also dehydration. I’ve ranked these popular hyped sunscreens based on how they worked for me personally (going from favorite to least favorite). My favorite is Unseen because it’s a primer and sunscreen in one, is lightweight and I haven’t had an issue with pilling. I prefer SPF 40 or higher. . Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
Key Ingredients: Complex Derived from Meadowfoam Seed (increases hydration levels), and Red Algae (helps protect against blue light emitted by electronic devices). Texture/Consistency: Gel Scent: None Price: $34 for 1.7 oz / 50 mL Experience: Is designed to be used as a primer, makes it quicker to get ready. It feels so lightweight, I can’t even tell that I’m wearing it throughout the day, doesn’t pill or make me oily. Repurchase/Recommend?: Yes, I definitely am going to purchase the full size of this! It simplifies my routine and lightweight. . Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion 50 Default Title
Key Ingredients: Sunflower Extract (protects your skin from external environmental elements) and Rosemary Leaf Extract (has a calming effect on the skin and is rich in antioxidants). Texture/Consistency: Lotion Scent: None Price: $32 for 5.5 oz / 162 mL OR $58 for 18 oz / 532 mL Experience: It was too heavy on top of a moisturizer and made me look greasy, but applied by itself it was lovely (have a glow, but wasn’t too heavy). It also doesn’t pill when I put my makeup on. Repurchase/Recommend?: Yes, it would be more for people with dry skin, but it’s moisturizing enough to act as my moisturizer too so I apply it by itself (or on top of serum). . FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30
Key Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (physical sunscreen that helps filter harmful UV rays) and Alteromonas Ferment Filtrate and Vitamin E (both help protect against environmental aggressors). Scent: None Texture/Consistency: Liquidy Price: $34 for 1.5 oz / 44 mL Experience: I love that this is tinted, it doesn’t leave a white cast at all! It is lightweight, easily sinks in, and doesn’t make me oily throughout the day. It also doesn’t pill at all, so easy to put makeup on after. Repurchase/Recommend?: Maybe, I just wish it was a higher SPF. . DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30
Key Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (physical sunscreen that protects from harmful rays) and Algae Extract and Sunflower Sprout Extract (both protect against free radical damage). Scent: None Texture/Consistency: Lightweight Cream Price: $36 for 2 oz / 60 mL Experience: It feels heavy and doesn’t sink in all the way, plus pilled and made my CC Cream look cakey and terrible. Repurchase/Recommend?: No, it pilled badly and doesn’t work well with makeup on me.

help! eye product to use with adapalene
I just finished my first week on Tactupump (prescribed adapalene and benzoyl peroxide). I've read different posts about how to start adding retin-A safely - pea sized amount over whole face, avoiding eyes and mouth, every other day, removed other actives, spf, etc. Overall I'm doing okay but just had a minor reaction with my favorite eye serum The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG applied after 4 days and instantly started burning and caused redness/flakiness under my brows. I applied aloe but stopped using the serum and haven't had a reaction since. AM routine: - Norwex gentle facial cloth wash with water - THAYERS - Rose Petal Facial Mist (want to replace but just using up the last bit as a base for serums) - SNP - PREP Peptaronic Toner - Osmosis Beauty - Rescue - Epidermal Repair Serum - CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream - Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion 50 Default Title or Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 if wearing makeup PM routine: - DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil - innisfree - Green Tea Hydrating Cleansing Foam - SNP - PREP Peptaronic Toner - boscia - Cactus Water Moisturizer soon to be replaced with LANEIGE - Water Bank Moisture Cream - Tactupump 0.1% adapalene and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide topical gel every other day - CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream plus The Ordinary - "B" Oil soon to be replaced with LANEIGE - Cica Sleeping Maskon Tactupump nights Any suggestions for a safer eye product I can swap in? I need the extra hydration around my eyes and have morning puffiness and dark circles.

Battle of sunscreens for my dark skin babes
I have combination skin, live in Fl (humid) and i wear a mask at work. So the struggle is real lol Im still taking recommendations for sunscreen thats dark girl friendly and combo skin friendly. So far the top one for me is unseen but I’m still undecided. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 This sunscreen i like. I dont love. It goes on like a weird primer (idk I’m a texture person). Even though i have combo skin i still like a natural glow because i don’t wear makeup. I still find that my face at I’ll gets slightly oily so idk if my skin is trying to compensate or what but yeah. It works well, its good if you wear makeup and a lot of people love it. Oil free, vegan and is clear. Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion 50 Default Title I don’t believe this is oil free. I think is a body spf. But you know how cerave lotion isn’t really a moisturizer but we use it anyway. I decided to give it a try. It comes out white, no cast at all i was surprised. It goes on like lotion (kinda like black girl sunscreen) but not as oily. If you have normal to dry, I think you’ll love it. I read reviews on their website and people use it on their face. So its okay lol. My first day using it so idk if I’ll end up a grease ball lol. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 60 Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 60 Dont even bother, it has a cast but I noticed it clears off eventually. As i try to work into my skin it leaves an annoying residue. When i sweat i feel sunscreen. When i wash my face, it’s annoying. Not dark chocolate girl friendly. Its goos tho for other skin tones. Oil free BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN - Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 Its great for dark skin, normal to dry skin, no white cast and if your skin loves oils. Go for it. It definitely helps with glowy skin But oily and combo? Not so much. My face was wayyyy to oily even when i used less. The other 2 eminence red currant and lilikoi. Its okay. But I wouldn’t recommend for darker skin. And definitely not lilikoi (i looked like a ghost lol)

Easy Breezy Minimalistic Look ✨
You know your skin is happy & healthy when no filter is needed! 𝒩𝑜 𝒻𝒾𝓁𝓉𝑒𝓇, 𝓃𝑜 𝑒𝒹𝒾𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 - just a couple quick iPhone portrait shots. I’m not a huge selfie kind of gal; I prefer to stay behind the camera but I felt put together for a change! I have minimal makeup on - this is an easy breezy routine that will embrace your natural skin. And YES, I know my eyebrows are way overdue for a waxing, but as someone with an autoimmune illness, my health comes first. 💞 𝒲𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝐼 𝒰𝓈𝑒𝒹 I double cleanse at night so in the morning, I go in with something super gentle to just refresh my skin and remove oil from my skin. So today I used Drunk Elephant’s E-Rase Milki and then 4-5 spritz of the new Sweet B mist. Then I mixed Protini & D-Bronzi, and applied Umbra Tinte for SPF. My skin was looking extra glowy today so to tone it down and reduce the appearance of my pores, I lightly went over with Girlactik’s Luminous Face Powder in Light with a big, fluffy powder brush. Then I used KVD Vegan Beauty’s Cake Pencil in Trooper & Thrive Causemetics’ Liquid Lash Extensions mascara. For the lips, I used Jeffree Star’s Velvet Trap in Celebrity Skin with Bite Beauty’s Yaysayer Plumping Lip Gloss in Cider Donut! ✨ DRUNK ELEPHANT - E-Rase Milki Micellar Water DRUNK ELEPHANT - D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops DRUNK ELEPHANT - Sweet Biome Fermented Sake Hydrating Spray DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 girlactik - Luminous Face Powder KVD VEGAN BEAUTY - Cake Pencil Eyeliner thrive causemetics - Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara™ JEFFREE STAR COSMETICS - Velvet Trap Lipstick BITE - Yaysayer Plumping Lip Gloss

Road Trip! My Must Have Products For Traveling
Okay so I’m going on a stay-cation. Meaning I’m not leaving the town I live in I’m just staying at a house that’s not mine. Trying to sprinkle a lil spice into my life. Anywho As I was packing I thought it would be cool to share what I put in my travel bag. First👏🏾 of 👏🏾All👏🏾 If it’s travel size it’s coming with me! Also My skincare routine is a tad bit different when I travel. Back in the day when I traveled I felt like my skincare routine went out the window but this would throw my skin all outta wack. Consistency is key when you have sensitive and acne prone skin! However to my defense I felt like I would need a separate luggage for everything I used on my skin because most brands don’t make travel sizes unless it’s a staple product. Hopefully this changes🤞🏾 Thankfully now, most of my must haves come in travel sizes so I can stick somewhat close to my routine when I’m away. So, here is the break down! I start with Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser It’s in the same oil fee collection as the gel moisturizer I like from Kiehls. I follow up with a toner after cleansing pixi - Clarity Tonic I use a bit of Kiehl's - Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate 12.5% Vitamin C This is new to my routine I’ll share my thoughts later Then moisturize with #Kiehls - Skin Rescuer[products]#[FiveStars] This is my second favorite lotion from kiehls. I mainly carry this when I travel because the moisturizer is in a squirt bottle. I don’t like packing my oil free gel moisturizer because the shape fits awkwardly in most of makeup bags. Also selfishly😅 sometimes when traveling with other people some will go dipping there fingers in my moisturizer to try it if it’s left out in the bathroom. I have no problem with other people trying it. However It’s just the finger dipping that bothers me. I don’t even dip my own fingers in it I use a qtip so I don’t contaminate it with other products that I might have on my hands. I wrap up my routine with HUDA BEAUTY - Get Even Rose Face Oil I reviewed this already and y’all know how I feel about it. 😍 I kept the small bottle from the holiday kit and I refill it from my bigger bottle so I can take it with me when I travel. This bottle is glass so I reuse it especially since I reuse it for the same product. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen is always a must! #Ebin - Ebin 24 Hour Edge Tamer[products]#[FiveStars] & most importantly edge control because Honey wherever I go the edges must be laid and this gets the job done right! ✅

SPF Please
I live where the sun shines virtually every day! Therefore, my routine is photo protective. From my morning Vitamin C + antioxidant serums, to my evening gentle acid exfoliants, I have built my skincare routine around anti-aging preventatives. I recently began working topical retinol at low % into my routine and get monthly Y:ag laser facials to stimulate and encourage collagen production. I’m about to turn 26, and I am very lucky to have plenty of collagen and few wrinkles. I spent a lot of my early 20s breaking the cardinal rules of anti-aging including smoking cigarettes (I’ve been nicotine free for over a year now!) and skipping SPF most days. I even had a brief bout of tanning booth addiction 😟 Now I use spf products as a daily routine. I was committed to Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 until a girl at Ulta recommended StriVectin - Full Screen SPF 30 Clear Finish which has a lower SPF and similar consistency as Unseen. I’ve also tried the Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40AND Supergoop! - Glowscreen Sunscreen SPF 40, neither of which I was really crazy about. The gel/primer consistency of both Unseen Sunscreen and the Strivectin spf are more conducive to my skincare routine and they both sink into my skin without leaving a greasy feeling. Now that I have an office job and wfh, I’m spending about 10 hours/day staring at two huge computer monitors, so I think I’ll stick with the Strivectin screen that also includes Vitamins A, B, C, and Pro-Vitamin D (?) and claims for protect against UVA/UVB, Blue Light (computer screens), and pollution. It’s affordable, comfortable to wear, a little goes a long way, and performs well under makeup when I’m wearing it. The lower spf isn’t a problem for me because I’m not standing in direct sunlight or anything. I think if I had my previous job working outside everyday I’d want a higher spf. Another line of defense I like to fall back on are SPF tinted moisturizers. A while back I had tried the PÜR - 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 which is honestly such a dream. This is a photo of me wearing it on a midday walk. It’s low to medium coverage, buildable, hydrating, and stays put! I don’t have very oily skin or especially dry skin so I feel it is a happy medium for those with normal or combo skin types. By no means is it full coverage. I slap this on (using my fingers to apply) if I’m planning to go for a walk in the sunshine or on a hike, in addition to my base layer of SPF. Of course, the best preventative is keeping the sun off your face at all costs, so you’ll usually see me on the trails with one of my favorite floppy hats, or sometimes if I’m feeling jazzy - my Bluestone Sunshield (see a few posts back). Do you wear SPF every day? Have you made any lifestyle changes for the sake of beauty/anti-aging? Share your tips or thoughts below!

Major SPF Myth ☀️❌
Here’s the deal...no matter how much we all don’t want to...SPF doesn’t last Especially if you wear a mineral SPF At best our sunscreen will only protect us for about 2 hours The sun will naturally break down all sunscreen actives and with the wear and tear of daily routines you are more likely to just wipe them off by accident, especially if you are sweating in the hot sun! What is your favourite SPF product for reapplication? These are my go tos as someone who doesn’t wear makeup FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I would love to try a PA filter sunscreen soon, any recs?

What is the importance of SPF
SPF is important as sun protection ie. to protect your skin from the suns ultraviolet rays. During the aging process collagen and elastin fibres become weaker and sun exposure causes this to happen at an even more rapid pace. The ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause cell damage, pigmentation, wrinkles/fine lines to occur. UVA Rays are known as the Aging Rays, as they have longer wavelengths, penetrate all 3 layers of the skin, cause genetic damage, weaken collagen & elastin and can result sagging. UVB rays are known as the Burning Rays, which are shorter in wavelength, penetrate the epidermis and can be therefore more damaging to the skin & eyes. Melanin is the pigment that naturally protects the skin from the sun. Melanin can be altered by exposure to the sun. When the body is injured, DNA is stimulated by the hormones to produce more melanin. There are two types of sunscreens: Mineral/Physical and Chemical. Mineral or Physical sunscreens are made up of organic material aka from carbon. The two active ingredients in mineral sunscreens are: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Chemical sunscreens are inorganic aka not from carbon. The most common active ingredients for chemical sunscreens are: octinoxate, octisalate, oxybenzone, avobenzone, homosalate and octocrylene. When shopping for a sunscreen you want to look for one that is 30 or higher for maximum protection, and if it is a mineral sunscreen at least 15% or higher for maximum protection. The number on the bottle of sunscreen, is based on UVB rays - how long it takes for redness to appear on the skin and SPF works best when reapplied. My two favourite sunscreens are the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 (available at Sephora) and Avène - VERY HIGH PROTECTION CREAM SPF50+ (available at the drugstore) #CheriePartner

PURITO REVIEW
PURITO REVIEW
Review Time! Ft. @purito_official 👏🏼 🌿 Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF 50+ PA++++ I already know this is not the first time you’ve seen this sunscreen on Instagram but my opinion about this differs from most others. We all know this is a cult favorite, but this is probably the worst sunscreen I have ever tried on my face and I’m so sad about it, I didn’t want to believe it. I have acne-prone/ combo to dry skin. It was nice to see that this sunscreen worked well for those with oily skin, and that it was hydrating enough for dry skin. But no. Although the texture was very nice, this just wasn’t it for me. My skin disagreed with this so bad.. After about a week and a half/maybe two weeks of use, I started breaking out really really bad. I know this was the culprit because it was the newest thing I introduced into my skincare routine at the time. I had 4 huge zits on my face at once it was so disturbing for me. Especially after all the progress I made, I felt so set back. Side note: Yes, I know this is a chemical sunscreen and although I naturally like mineral sunscreens better, I’ve never had a chemical sunscreen make my skin react the way this one did. 🥺 🌿 Comfy Water Sun Block SPF 50+ PA++++ Once I seen this sunscreen contained Zinc Oxide, helllo mineral sunscreen !!!!! I had to get it. Regardless of the Unscented Centella SPF not working out for me, I genuinely love the brand Purito, they have other amazing products that worked so well for me (hint hint* the unscented centella serum is LIFE CHANGING), so I decided to give this one a try! This definitely did not further any irritation or breakouts (THANK YOU). Zinc is an ingredient that my skin loves so I was definitely happy with the results of this product! It’s lightweight, yet very hydrating for my dry skin. This is definitely a sunscreen I’d re-purchase. Highly recommend giving this a try if you have acne-prone skin, and overall think it’s better to stick to mineral sunscreens over chemical. xo

My Favorite Sunscreen ☀️
My Favorite Sunscreen ☀️
I have combination skin that is sensitive and acne-prone. I’m also someone who doesn’t like anything with a sticky feeling on my face! 🌱This is the Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen and it is gorgeous. ✨First of all, it passes the Not Sticky test and doesn’t leave a white cast at all. It’s basically another hydrating moisturizer for your face in the way it applies and interacts with the skin. For this reason, reapplying doesn’t feel gross or heavy and this is one of the few sunscreens I actually enjoy reapplying throughout the day which is so important! ✨This has Hyaluronic Acid in it as well as Centella to enhance the skin barrier which provides protection from ultraviolet rays and any external stressors. It also avoids things like fragrance and essential oils so it is good for sensitive skin. ✨This is $16 for 2 oz which in my opinion is great for what you’re getting. What’s your favorite sunscreen? 🌞

SUNSCREENS!!
SUNSCREENS!!
This is going to be a short maybe not so sweet description/review of these small sample sized sunscreens that I was able to try in the last month! Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I’m not a big fan of chemical sunscreens because they contain a chemical that contributes to coral reef bleaching + the ingredients can be irritating for sensitive skin types! This formula, however, is “reef-safe” because it does not contain oxybenzone. I like this sunscreen because it acts like a primer and is totally clear! Great for darker skin types like me! It is expensive though so I’ll probably won’t repurchase knowing there are cheaper and better sunscreens out there (try Korean sunscreens). BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++ This mineral sunscreen has squalane which is a great oil for our lovely face! This formula is good for dark skin types but it can leave a white cast (check out YouTube videos to see white cast ratings). Whenever I used this, I didn’t use a moisturizer because this is pretty moisturizing (almost too much). I haven’t used this lately because it’s summer though I probably won’t use it until the drier winter months! FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 This is another mineral sunscreen that is suited for dark skin types too! I like this brand (recently there have been discrepancies and controversy regarding their cruelty free status due to selling in mainland China) & their products never fail! I like the glow this sunscreen gives me and it’s not too thick or anything! It does feel a little gritty but this may be because it was in my beach bag for a day… Still, I would probably repurchase this if I get another coupon from Ulta (this is little costly too for me) but for now I’ll stick to my Purito Centella sunscreen. Also, none of these sunscreens break me out! I have acne-prone, oily skin too!

Two MUST Have Mineral Sunscreens
Two MUST Have Mineral Sunscreens
I’m lucky enough to have started my skincare journey much earlier in life than most people. I’ve been wearing sunscreen daily since I was about 15 years old, but just recently got into mineral sunscreens as I’ve heard they suit oily, acne prone skin better. I also think that the zinc oxide used in mineral sunscreens really helps ease any sensitive I may have from acne breakouts, which is a major plus. PURITO - Comfy Water Sun Block This is a really, really beautiful mineral sunscreen with few ingredients and to me, it feels the most luxurious and “non-sunscreeny” between the two. It really does feel like you’re applying a watery creamy on to your skin, which is great for someone like me who as oilier skin. It’s not heavy or greasy in the least and blends in super quickly. Its perfect for oilier skin as it’s oil-free and dries down a bit more matte. It’s also unscented which I love! The only reason I didn’t give this one five stars is because it tends to cake up around oilier areas such as the creases of my nose and sometimes in my eyebrows. Unfortunately, it will leave a slight white cast on darker skin tones, especially if not rubbed in properly, so keep this in mind! elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 This has got to be one of the best, if not THE best mineral sunscreen out there right now. What I love most about this one is the smooth, silky texture and how moisturizing, yet not oily this is. It gives oily skin that healthy sheen that ppl with dry skin can pull off effortlessly without looking like they sprayed a can of Pam on their foreheads. It also has a beautiful ingredients list with niacinamide high up on the list, which is always a plus! Great for sensitive and acne prone skin types as well I want to add that neither of these products irritates my eyes; I have oily eyelids and sensitive eyes and sunscreen seeping into my eyes is a daily occurrence 🙄

Comfy Water Sun Block

Umbra Tinte SPF 30
Umbra Tinte SPF 30
What is it? Umbra Tinte is a tinted physical sunscreen with UVA/UVB protection to help prevent free radical damage and oxidative damage! Targeted to those with normal, dry, combo and oily skin. We all know the importance of SPF. A physical sunscreen creates a barrier between your skin and the sun to reflect the UV rays, while a chemical sunscreen is absorbed into the skin and absorbs the UV rays converting them to heat and basically prevents you from getting burned. Imo physical sunscreens are all around better for you but this is just one sunscreen I’ve tested. Umbra Tinte has 20% zinc oxide, algae extract, and sunflower extract as main ingredients. My experience: I had high hopes for Umbra Tinte because i love most DE products. This sunscreen is gritty, Stings my eyes, and makes my face itchy. Physical sunscreens aren’t the easiest to use and I know that but I’ve tried several others (because my mom and I both work at dermatologists offices ) and I haven’t had this experience with any others. I will say it isn’t extremely hard to wash off and doesn’t have much of a white cast which i appreciate since i get very dark in the summer. It gives my skin an extra oily feel too. I never experienced a breakout with this sunscreen so that’s also a plus. I just could not deal with wearing this. The smallest amount of sweat would make it fall off into my eyes which caused a lot of stinging. I ended up just using on my arms and chest which I think it worked a lot better and was easy to spread. It retails At 36 USD which is a decent price for a physical sunscreen but i would not repurchase this due to the experiences I had and it wouldn’t be my first sunscreen recommendation. My favorite sunscreen for ALL skin types🙌🏼🌞
When you’re out in the sun it’s so so sooo important to wear SPF. I covered a lot of this information in my previous post about sunscreen, but i got a lot of questions asking for good sunscreens for sensitive skin. Elta MD is by far my favorite one. It is perfect for any skin type, especially those with sensitive skin and acne prone skin. EltaMD UV Clear helps calm and protect sensitive skin types prone to discoloration and breakouts associated to acne and rosacea. It contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), hyaluronic acid and lactic acid, ingredients that promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin! It’s so lightweight and doesn’t leave a white cast on the skin at all 🙌🏼. It’s seriously great! Their full body sunscreen is amazing as well, I truly love this brand for SPF💕 #sunscreen #SPF #CherieCreator elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46
