Battle of the Hyped Sunscreens
My skin type is combo oily that can lean more dry during the weather changes or just randomly. My skin concerns are acne, oiliness throughout the day and also dehydration. I’ve ranked these popular hyped sunscreens based on how they worked for me personally (going from favorite to least favorite). My favorite is Unseen because it’s a primer and sunscreen in one, is lightweight and I haven’t had an issue with pilling. I prefer SPF 40 or higher. . Battle of the Sunscreens!
☀️ I have sensitive combination skin that is acne-prone so I’ve used a LOT of sunscreens trying to find the perfect one. These are just some of my experiences ranked from worst to best. I always apply sunscreen after my moisturizer in the AM and then reapply during the day. ☀️4. Umbra Tinte by Drunk Elephant $36 for 2oz and SPF 30 This is a tinted and physical broad spectrum sunscreen for UVA and UVB protection. It has lots of antioxidants and has Marula oil in classic DE fashion for moisture. It is free of essential oils and fragrance. Thoughts? Meh. This is not it for me. I like a smooth finish and this in the past has made my skin feel very sticky to the touch. It has a gentle scent that isn’t distracting that I actually enjoy but it made me look really shiny and gross. That being said, my best friend loves this so I will be giving it another chance soon which I think is important to do because you may find you change your mind! It really is up to your preference but I’ve tried others that I’ve fallen for on the first try and this was definitely not that. ☀️3. Mineral Matte Screen by Supergoop $38 for 1.5 oz and SPF 40 This is a 100% mineral screen with a matte finish for all skin types. It also claims to minimize the look of pores and controls shine. The brand recently redesigned the formula to make it reef-safe! Thoughts? With this formula, I struggle to get an even look sometimes without really blending but I love how it feels! It’s so soft on the skin and gives almost a light coverage like a light foundation which I really enjoy. Because of this, I find it helps when I have any redness or breakouts too. I’d be curious to try the new formula and see how it compares but I do reach for this regularly. ☀️2. Youth Extending Hydrating Fluid by Paula’s Choice $33 for 2oz and SPF 50 This is a water-light formula with antioxidants and broad-spectrum sun protection. It also fights environmental stressors. This is a chemical screen meaning that it converts the rays into heat rather than a physical screen which deflects them. This can be sensitizing for some people but I haven’t had an issue with this. Thoughts? I love this one! It’s super lightweight and applies gorgeously almost like a light moisturizer on top. I will purchase this at some point in the full size. I think it’ll be great for summer because of this lightness. It isn’t sticky and doesn’t leave a white cast. Love it! ☀️1. Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen by Purito $15.90 for 2oz and SPF 50 This is safe for all skin types, essential oil free and is broad spectrum. It’s reef safe and calming for the skin too! Thoughts? YES. This is my favorite sunscreen of all time. I can’t believe this isn’t talked about more. Truly. It goes on like a moisturizer, isn’t sticky, makes skin feel smooth and doesn’t leave a white cast. This is my favorite. Hands down. Easy to reapply too! Definitely a repurchase. Best Drunk Elephant Products Worth Your Money
Well, I know people have used drunk elephant products. But still, I want to recommend this brand to people around me! Because it's my fav!🤩🤩 My first time was getting a try of drunk elephant, only because I got some small samples (like the pic below) for free!! DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum One of these is B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum, with a very light and easy-spread jelly-like texture. My T-zone always has issues absorbing any products because it turns so oily in summer (I want clear skin). But after I tried the free sample at night, my face stops turning oily, so amazing!!! DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum So I bought a travel size package from Sephora, including B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum and C-Firma™ Day Serum. After using C-Firma™ Day Serum, I decided to go for a full-size package because it's one of my fav brightening serum. I have other reviews with details on this, check this out!!! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer After that, I keep trying more small samples from Drunk Elephant, never get disappointed!!! The products like Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30、Protini™ Polypeptide Moisturizer, are just like designing for me!!!! I can't wait to shout out how much I love this brand!!' 🥰🥰
Sunscreen of the Summer ☀️
I finally splurged and got this $39 sunscreen from Supergoop! After seeing so many rave reviews and having tried a sample myself, I knew I'd love it. This is especially a great sunscreen (all year round) if you have more oily skin because it's a silicone base with no dew or tackyness to it. It also has NO color so it's all skintone friendly! My skin is dry so I will probably only be using this in the summer/early fall. However, I love it! Feels so lightweight and airy on the skin. Doesn't pill either. Supergoop is cruelty free which is great! 🥰 Also shout out to Rebecca_Suzanne_says (I think that's your @ It wouldnt let me tag you) for recommending this as well ✨ Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
Supergoop, Is It Really So Super?
Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 To begin with, this product was so hard to find in stock anywhere!! I ended up finding it on some random website on page 52672 of my google searches and bought an SPF 30 version of the product. As for the unseen claim of this product (that this sunscreen is visually unseen on the skin) , it is completely true. It is perfectly clear and you can hardly tell it is on the skin when applied. Neither colour, nor texture of the sunscreen is visible. Looks as a moisturizer would when applied. It is also thick and sticky, yet super lightweight on the skin, so a perfect primer for makeup if you don’t wish to use an additional primer on top. It does have a smell to it which I had read about previously, but it is not as strong or disturbing as i’d read. There is a pungent smell when you first squeeze out the product, but then the smell immediately dissipates. With each application, I use about 4-5 times the amount squeezed onto my hand in the second picture. This is not too much, but in comparison to the size of the bottle, it is an uncomfortable amount. In terms of sunscreen, this product is amazing and I have no complaints. It is even water resistant, which eases my nerves for when I sweat or happen to face some splashes of water on my face. However, I do not like how small the bottles are for how much I use and how much it actually costs (spent about $30 CAD). For that reason only, I give it 4 stars instead of 5. But if the price is not an issue for you, this is an amazing sunscreen! Either 30 SPF or 40 SPF are both great for protection against the sun and work well as a mineral sunscreen that blends into your normal skin care or makeup routine without much disruption. ☀️☀️☀️ I would like to ask if anyone has suggestions for a mineral sunscreen that works just as well but isn’t as pricy! Thank you!!
5 Do’s and 2 Don’t’s to treat your hyperpigmenta
We all have gone through dark spots I’m sure, whether it’s from an old acne spot, a sun spot or a scar. It’s disheartening when we want that beautiful even looking skin and then there are these dots of red or brown in the way. I have significant acne scarring and hella dry skin from years of cystic acne and destroying my skin.... so I’m going to give you my best tips! Do: Vitamin C! It’s a powerhouse antioxidant ingredient that fights free radical damage that can make these spots appear or even worsen them. It’s proven to lighten up and even skin tone for that beautiful bright glow! I love the Tatcha Violet C mask for weekly use as it somehow just brightens the skin quite instantly! TATCHA - Violet-C Radiance Mask Do: chemical exfoliation. This is your AHA products to dissolve the glue that is holding the dead and damaged skin to the surface. It helps get rid of them so healthier cells can find their way to the surface and shine! Honeymoon Glow from Farmacy is a fan favourite. Take it easy tho, a couple times a week is fine. FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum Or you can do the ordinary peel once a week! The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Do: Niacinamide. This is another superstar ingredient that will brighten up the skin and help those spots look lighter. It’s also good for oil control so that acne doesn’t pop up and cause more spots! The new cream from Caudalie is beautiful and will moisturizer at the same time! CAUDALIE - VINOPERFECT BRIGHTENING MOISTURIZER WITH NIACINAMIDE Do: Hydrate!! When treating skin concerns it can be easy to just dry the skin out and attack it with treatments. We forget how delicate our skin is. SO HYDRATE AND MOISTURIZE MORNING AND NIGHT!! Your skin will always look more healthy this way. Do: SPF! If you ain’t protecting the skin from damage, all the effort in your skincare is pointless. Protect from the sun who will cause those spots to get worse and even create them. Protect your precious newly exfoliated and brightened skin so it stays healthy. I don’t care the excuses. EVERYDAY! The new one from First Aid Beauty is lightweight, non greasy, gives a slight glow with its tint and works well under makeup FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral SPF 30 Don’t: Over do it. Please keep the chemical exfoliation to once a week for a strong treatment or 3-4x a week for a more regular treatment. Overdoing it will literally make your skin 10x worse and more damaged, red and sore. Don’t: FORGET THE SPF. But also, please keep suntanning or tanning beds and such to a minimum. This will not clear your skin. It’s not worth it if you want clear skin. Bonus: Do not, please, do not pick at your face!! It’s satisfying to pop pimples or scratch a scab, but the scar lasts too long for it to be worth it.
I S-cream for Suncreen!
I always had trouble finding a sunscreen that will work for my skin without leaving a white-residue on my face. I was never a fan of creamy sunscreens however I decided to try it and now I have been using this Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen 50spf for almost a year now. Besides liking the no white- residue it does not leave my skin oily and no breakouts which is great because my skin is sensitive and acne prone. This is also great not just for the face but the body too. In fact this sunscreen also hydrates my skin. It is a creamy sunscreen but lightweight and fast-absorbing. I use this everyday under my makeup and what i like is that my makeup looks smooth underneath the layers of makeup I wear. Even wearing this sunscreen alone gives my skin a glowy look. I recommend this product to all skin types but if you’re more on the oily side I recommend to go with their matte sunscreen. Sun ☀️ protection 365
This is my holy grail sunscreen! 🌞 Have you tried the UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 from Elta MD Skincare yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Just about every esthetician I know recommends and sells this sunscreen. It goes on smoothly. It sinks into your skin. You can apply makeup without using a primer and it won’t pill on you. As a woman of color it’s so hard to find a sunscreen that won’t leave me with a white cast. I don’t have to worry about that with this sunscreen. I also love that it has great SPF coverage and doesn’t have any fragrances. Elta MD claims this zinc oxide sunscreen will also calm and protect acne prone skin. It also contains niacinamide, which helps with moisture. I can’t stress enough the importance of wearing sunscreen daily, especially when using AHA’s/BHA’s and other actives in your skincare routine. Sunscreen helps to protect your skin from harmful Ultra Violet rays from the sun, which can potentially lead to skin cancer. While it’s great to apply sunscreen the key is to reapply it throughout the day. Also, sunscreen should be worn year-round not just during the summer. You can find this sunscreen online for about $35 for 1.7 ounces. It also comes in a tinted version. 4.5 stars ✨

SKIN GLOW 101: SPF ✨
Hey friends! Do you find yourself glowing immediately after you finish your AM routine, but feeling dull or too matte throughout the day? Oh boy, I have an exciting product for you 🤩 let’s talk about Biossance’s new SPF formula! BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++ To preface this, I want to say my skin tone is fair—so often times I don’t have to worry about white cast—I fully acknowledge my privilege in that aspect. The cool thing about this screen is that it is a mineral formula with NO WHITE CAST! I saw Jackie Aina applying it in a video and I was floored. I also want to add that my skin type is acne-prone and sensitive with rosacea so I typically prefer mineral sunscreens since they’re less irritating *to me* than chemical screens. Biossance’s “gimmick” is their plant-derived squalane—you can find it in every single product in their line. The spf is no different. Due to that, the texture is a bit heavier than other sunscreens I have used. Think traditional “sport” coppertone-esque levels of heaviness. Due to this, on days that I use this sunscreen, I use it in place of my moisturizer or else it feels incredibly heavy on my skin. That’s where this loses one star for me. Even though I have to rate this 4/5 stars, it gives me an INSANE dewiness throughout the day that doesn’t look oily. It’s amazing! It also hasn’t caused any breakouts in the time I’ve been using it (1 month). It runs on the pricy side—$30 for 1.7oz. I recommend getting a mini size or a sample before purchasing. I would recommend this for normal to dry skin types, not oily as it might make the situation worse. 4/5 What are your favorite sunscreens?

Sunscreen With Benefits
Living with lupus, it’s no secret that my enemy is the sun. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be a scorching hot day either. Sun exposure makes me prone to lupus flare ups which consist of butterfly rashes / hyperpigmentation on my face. To prevent this, it’s key that I protect my skin with SPF daily. The Elta MD UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen has been my go to for the last year! This facial sunscreen is created to protect skin types that are especially susceptible to acne, rosacea and hyperpigmentation. The 5% high purity niacinamide in the formula helps reduce the appearance of blemishes, discoloration, and photo damaged skin. Because of the lightweight formula, it is formulated to be used daily and promotes smooth, clean, clear skin while protecting your skin from the harsh sun. The 9% transparent micronized zinc oxide in the formula protects your skin from UVA, while the SPF 46 protects your skin from UVB. This sunscreen is also fragrance free, oil free, sensitivity free, and Paraben free. I like to use a generous amount on my face and apply it down to my neck, and it is recommended to reapply every two hours based on how exposed you’ll be to the sun. I purchase mine from the Skinstore about once every other month for $35, and it’s worth every penny!

Umbra Tinte SPF 30
What is it? Umbra Tinte is a tinted physical sunscreen with UVA/UVB protection to help prevent free radical damage and oxidative damage! Targeted to those with normal, dry, combo and oily skin. We all know the importance of SPF. A physical sunscreen creates a barrier between your skin and the sun to reflect the UV rays, while a chemical sunscreen is absorbed into the skin and absorbs the UV rays converting them to heat and basically prevents you from getting burned. Imo physical sunscreens are all around better for you but this is just one sunscreen I’ve tested. Umbra Tinte has 20% zinc oxide, algae extract, and sunflower extract as main ingredients. My experience: I had high hopes for Umbra Tinte because i love most DE products. This sunscreen is gritty, Stings my eyes, and makes my face itchy. Physical sunscreens aren’t the easiest to use and I know that but I’ve tried several others (because my mom and I both work at dermatologists offices ) and I haven’t had this experience with any others. I will say it isn’t extremely hard to wash off and doesn’t have much of a white cast which i appreciate since i get very dark in the summer. It gives my skin an extra oily feel too. I never experienced a breakout with this sunscreen so that’s also a plus. I just could not deal with wearing this. The smallest amount of sweat would make it fall off into my eyes which caused a lot of stinging. I ended up just using on my arms and chest which I think it worked a lot better and was easy to spread. It retails At 36 USD which is a decent price for a physical sunscreen but i would not repurchase this due to the experiences I had and it wouldn’t be my first sunscreen recommendation.
