Face Primer - Worth It?

On the left side of my face, I applied this smashbox - Photo Finish Oil & Shine Control Matte Primer
and kept the other side bare. This primer claims to be a transformative gel-to-powder face primer that feels like clouds and mattifies like magic. It uses skin healthy ingredients like witch hazel, salicylic acid, and zinc to control oil and shine throughout the day. They claim the result is a silky, cloud-like matte finish that helps makeup look better longer. I decided to test the claims about mattifying and prolonging makeup wear. The full size is 1.0 oz for $39, while the trial size is 0.40 oz for $15. . Application: the gel really does feel lightweight when it is first applied and easily spreads across the skin. I’ve had a difficult time lately with primers pulling up my skincare underneath as soon as I apply them, but this seemed promising this far. Immediately I could tell that my skin looked more matte and not as shiny, which I loved. As soon as I tried using my BeautyBlender to apply the Too Faced Born This Way foundation to the primer side (I did the bare side first and then moved onto the primer side so that the bare side wouldn’t get contaminated), my makeup/primer/skincare started pilling. I kept trying to just bounce it into my skin like I normally do, but no luck. I switched to using my It Cosmetics foundation brush and had to use a lot more product in order to even that side out and dust away all the pills that were created. It was so much extra work that wasn’t worth it at all. My skin looked somewhat more matte on the primer side, but that hassle alone made it not worth it to me. . Longevity: . Honestly, both sides looked the same after 8 hours of wear. My foundation had worn away almost equally on both sides and had the same amount of oiliness. My makeup didn’t look an different or better while I’ve been wearing this. It didn’t help prolong the wear or keep my oils at bay at all. . Overall: The hassle of the application of the pilling and taking more product and time made primer not even worth it. Usually my makeup lasts fine whenever I don’t use a primer. My pores might be more noticeable than the could be if I used primer, but this experience reminds me why I’ve given up on purchasing primers because they mostly just seem like duds to me.

I looove my Pearl Tint Primer 💕
IPKN - Radiant Cream Primer SPF 15 As you guys know- my face breaks out with a lot of products but I found my holy grail primer! I have been using this for maybe 2 years now and I love it. I use it throughout the whole year. It is hydrating and I wear it with or without foundation. I love the beautiful pearl tint! It makes my skin glowy and healthy looking , especially when I don’t wear foundation during the week! It does not break out my acne- prone skin. I took pictures without foundation to show you the glowy look. smashbox - Photo Finish Oil & Shine Control Matte Primer and smashbox - Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer These primers are not good for my oily, combination acne prone skin type. They look nice and definitely blur and minimize the pores on my cheeks and forehead. I noticed they dried out my skin and caused breakouts. Seems like my oily skin likes hydrating products 😆

Why???? 😩
Why???? 😩
Why do companies make an amazing product for a limited time, make you fall in love with it and then discontinue it??? I bought this Clairns SOS primer that promised a sun kissed look, I found it to be a little too dark for the summer and made me a little more than sun kissed. So I put it in a drawer and all but forgot about it. Then winter hit and so did the pale look that comes along with the cold weather. I have found that adding just a small dab to my regular foundation takes me from winter pale to “I just got home from a beach vacation”. This tinted primer is everything! While I find it too dark to use as an actual primer, when mixed, it’s fantastic ! I went to go buy this wonderful product a month or so ago, only to find out that it’s no longer being made. I am looking for a similar product to add to my foundation to achieve the same results...... CLARINS - Summer bronze collection SOS Primer

Need a new primer? No Poreblem!
Need a new primer? No Poreblem!
🎀 The what: This is the Touch in Sol No Poreblem primer. It is available at Ulta, Sephora, online retailers, and through the brand’s website. 🎀 The details: This primer claims to conceal pores and improve the appearance of skin over makeup. This primer boasts a smooth, velvety finish that is supposed to provide the perfect canvas for flawless makeup. Suitable for all skin types. It is paraben and sulfate-free, as well as cruelty-free and vegan. 🎀 My thoughts: I got this primer in a Boxycharm sometime in 2019 and I’ve been using it on and off for months. I truly feel this primer makes a difference in the way my makeup applies and wears throughout the day. It’s claims of feeling soft and velvety on the skin are totally true. I wouldn’t say my pores stay blurred all day (see photo 3), but they look pretty darn good! Photo 4 is fresh application - so smooth! The pump (I use 1) makes it very easy to apply. The only down side is that it’s kind of bulky to travel with, but it’s worth it! I have a backup because I don’t want to ever run out. The price is awesome, too, considering the quality. This primer works for me in the summer when my skin is more combo and when it’s bone dry in the winter. 🎀 The price: $18 for 1oz. 4.5/5⭐️

These primers are practically identical 😮 The nice thing here is that you can get the same Tatcha silk canvas results for just $8 buying the one from e.l.f. - Poreless Putty Primer The truth is that both products last a long time since you require a small amount. I think I would really continue to buy Tatcha's ($52), I am very visual and I love the packaging and that it comes with a spatula 😬 and I rarely wear makeup, so this products last me forever. Something that I found interesting is that TATCHA - The Silk Canvas Protective Primer recommend using it with or without makeup 😱 However, both products give the same long-lasting makeup effect and blur the pores, so I think both are fine and it will depend on how much you want to invest in a primer.

Great hydrating primer
Great hydrating primer
This is so hydrating it feels like a moisturizer. Super refreshing to put on in the morning too to wake yourself up! And it def doesn’t make your skin shiney. I feel like this has helped since switching to this product from a mattifying primer that dried out my skin.

Primer:smashbox VS YSL
Primer:smashbox VS YSL
Smashbox’s “Photo Finish Foundation Primer” VS YSL’s “Touche Eclat Blur Primer” I got these two primers to help cover my skin pores and give my skin a smoother look. smashbox - Photo Finish Foundation Primer –$36 (1oz) Smashbox’s primer works extremely well and despite the bottle containing only one ounce of primer, it lasts an extremely long time since it only needs a little bit of primer during each use. I apply this primer after applying my makeup and I’ve noticed that this primer helps my makeup last a lot longer, which is always a plus. The only downside to this primer that I’ve noticed is to not accidentally use too much. If too much primer is applied, it can cause your make up to ball up. Since the bottle is so small, it is very easy to accidentally squeeze out too much primer. YVES SAINT LAURENT - Touche Eclat Blur Primer - $52 (1oz) This primer is a deluxe sample that I got at Sephora. This primer had similar effects to the smashbox primer that I’ve been using. The only noticeable difference is that this one contains glitter, so it does make your face glow. The glitter gives your face a glossy look to it where as the smashbox one gives your face a matte look. The bottle of YSL is also a lot prettier than smashbox bottle. However, it is more expensive and rarely goes on sale.

Did you know that Becca Cosmetics’ Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighters are one of the best selling highlighter formulas out there on the market?! They were one of the first brands to create a highlighter and set off this highlighter trend craze that we see today. Their one of a kind formula contains ultra fine, multi toned luminescent pearls; these pearls then adjust to your skin’s natural undertone and amplify a natural radiance - AKA, that natural glow from within description that everyone uses and looks for in a highlighter. The formula is a mixture of pigments and liquids, allowing the formula to never get cakey or sit on top of the skin - instead this formula melts into your skin, truly giving that glow from within appearance. As radiant and blinding these highlighters can be, they will never appear glittery. Opal best suites those with a medium-tan skin tone as the shade is a neutral, white gold with a soft pink pearl shift. For this particular shade, I love to use it as a brow highlight and inner corner eye highlight. If I do use it on the high points of my face, I like to use my finger, dab it on the places I want to bring forward & shine on, and blend it out with a highlighter pointed brush. The highlighter pictured in the photo is the classic Opal shade in a limited edition packaging, which I think makes it look so much more elegant, along with the pan imprint. You get 8 grams of product for $38, which is a bit steep for a single highlighter; especially in today’s market where there are plenty of just as good highlighters available in the drugstore.
