Face Creams I DO NOT Recommend for Combo Skin

Carleycarley
I have an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. Let me introduce two facial creams that I tried recently but don't recommend using. 1) Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream I do not recommend this product, especially for people with oily skin! It has a greasy texture and doesn't get absorbed easily. No matter whether you follow it up with sunscreen, primer, or foundation, it tends to ball up, so it can only be used before bed. I still haven't even finished using it. 2) CLINIQUE - Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator
I've used Clinique's Moisture Surge before and felt pretty good about it. Its gel texture doesn't ball up and it's very refreshing and moisturizing in summer. I bought its Moisture Surge Intense this time and the texture is very greasy in comparison. It doesn't absorb easily and will rub off onto the pillow when I sleep at night. I do not recommend this for oily or combination-oily skin, especially in summer. People with dry skin can give it a go.

Glass Skin > Ordinary Peeling Solution
Okay so a few weeks ago I made a post on how I changed my mind on The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Originally I was ready to bring it right back after trying for weeks but apparently I was keeping it on for too long and it was just making my skin worse. For the longest time, I was thinking that my skin has been so desensitized by products that I need to wear products for double the time they suggested (with hydrating products this sometimes works) but DEFINITELY not for this one. I started wearing it for 8-9 minutes rather than 10-15 and definitely seeing more improvements so I gave it a good review, but now that PEACH & LILY - Glass Skin Refining Serum has come into my life, I may have once again changed my mind. This is a serum that claims to smooth your skin and even tone using peach extract, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and peptides. Below I have provided Ulta’s notes on it! RECOMMENDED FOR: • Dullness and uneven skin tone • Rough skin texture • Wrinkles, fine lines, sagging • Dehydrated skin • Redness, inflammation WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU: • Peach Extract: full of vitamins, minerals, and essential acids to help keep skin resilient • Niacinamide: helps quell inflammation, brighten and provide antioxidative benefits • Asian Mountain Yam Extract: helps to reduce flakiness • Madecassoide: helps curb inflammation and stimulate collagen production • Hyaluronic Acid Complex: blend of short-chain, medium-chain and long-chain hyaluronic acid molecules that moisturizes every layer of skin, leaving it hydrated, plumped and radiant • Peptide Complex: proprietary blend of peptides that signals collagen production, helping fill fine lines and deeply-etched wrinkles, while firming skin for a smoother, glassier appearance Verdict: After using this serum ONE TIME I noticed a DRASTIC change in my skin that I was expecting from The Ordinary Peeling Solution and didn’t get after using for almost 6 months. Slowly it started to show results, but nothing even CLOSE to Peach and Lily. With Peach and Lily, not only do I see a total lack of acne and scarring that I had before, but the redness that normally shows in my skin is almost nonexistent and my face is finally the same shade as my neck. This is definitely one of my top 5 products I’ve ever used. How I Use: Morning: Wash my face with THE BODY SHOP - Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser Top with serum and a moisturizer with sunscreenCeraVe - Hydrating Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50 Night: Wash my face with either the tea tree cleanser or bliss - Micro Magic depending on how long I wore my Covid mask that day (Micro Magic seems to help with maskne) Saturate a cotton pad with Fourth Ray - Waterfall Gentle Toner and rub it all over, let it dry and top with CLINIQUE - Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator

Pleasantly surprised by this money sucker!
Let me just start by saying that I have been looking at this beauty basically since it came out but never actually bought it because of how obnoxiously expensive it is. The only reason I did this month is because ulta was having a big Black Friday sale and I racked up $10 in points, scoring this product for half off! It has a very interesting smell but now that I’ve been using it for a month, I’ve gotten used to it. It’s very thick and creamy so you barely need any to cover your whole face. They suggest you keep it on your face for 5-20 minutes. I like to keep clay masks on longer usually but this one dries in about 5 minutes which is probably why their suggested time is so short. When you take it off, you can immediately see that your skin looks smoother and pores look smaller! This usually means that the product is drying your face so I top it with either my favorite THE BODY SHOP - Jumbo Tea Tree Oil (sorry Hyram I tried to stop for a little and my skin didn’t like it) and CLINIQUE - Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator which is on the more expensive side but hydrates the CRAP out of my skin and is so worth it. I don’t normally like clay masks because I do have combination skin and it tends to make me breakout more but this one is like a different breed!! Verdict: YES!!!!! 💖💖💖💖 one of the best clay masks I’ve used. Buy it!!!

Clinique’s Moisture Surge
Product: Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator Price: $54 Product Claims: Clinique's Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator is a rich, oil-free cream-gel that plumps skin with 24-hour hydration. It instantly rehydrates and helps repair skin's moisture barrier over time. For very dry to dry combination skins. Product Target Concerns: Dryness and Dullness Texture/Consistency: Cream/Gel like moisturizer My Thoughts on Product: I originally tried this after my sister showed me it. She has oily skin and I have dry skin and we both love it! It absorbs nicely and really helps my dry skin. After just a couple nights I noticeably softer skin. It is a little on the pricey side but if you're having issues finding a moisturizer then it's definitely worth trying it. Recommend to Others?: Yes - if you have dry skin and have issues finding a moisturizer that works CLINIQUE - Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator

Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gel-C
Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gel-Cream My favourite drug store face cream! I tried the regular neutrogena hydro boost gel cream but didn’t like the smell. When I saw this I had to get it. The gel texture is amazing. It absorbs quickly into my skin, doesn’t clog my pores, and makes my skin feel so soft. It’s fragrance free, oil free, and contains hyaluronic acids, which I’m currently obsessed with. If you live in Canada like I do, you’ll understand that the winter weather can really dry your skin out. Once I started using this I haven’t had any dry patches like I used to. This is probably close to my 20th jar. I use it morning and night and cannot stress enough how amazing this is. You just have to try it yourself :)

Empty! 111Skin Cryo Activating Hydra Gel
Empty! 111Skin Cryo Activating Hydra Gel
111SKIN - Cryo Activating Hydra Gel *skin is normally oily/combo but has been dry recently Another lil Ipsy empty! Sometimes Ipsy sends me something from a brand that I’ve never heard of and have no opinion on and I just decide to use it to get rid of it. Sometimes I actually like the product they send me. This is one of those. This is a Cryo Activating Hydra Gel. Please nobody ask me what that means because I do not know and would love for someone to explain it. All I do know is that this is a pretty decent moisturizer. While the product name says it’s a gel, it’s really more of a cream moisturizer. I’ve already mentioned that I’m not really drawn to cream moisturizers and I was surprised when I used this first that it wasn’t more of a gel. That being said, it’s not a very thick cream and does apply more like a gel when you start to rub it in. No greasy residues thankfully! I would probably prefer it if it were more a gel like it claims to be. Unrelated to the product specifically but I kind of found the packaging hard to squeeze out especially near the end. I believe the full size comes in a pot and I’ve already expressed my dislike for any product in a pot so that’s a no go for me. I found this super moisturizing and lightweight and it mixed well with lots of different products. I do think this brand is pretty pricey, and the full size of this is upwards of $200 I believe. Needless to say, I definitely didn’t like this that much. I wouldn’t spend that much on any moisturizer and definitely not this. If it were more like $30 I’d consider repurchasing.

Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly
Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly
One of my favorite moisturizers for oily skin is the CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly . It is a lightweight, water jelly that provides hydration all day. It is oil free, fragrance free, and helps strengthens the skin barrier. I love using this in the morning because I still need something on my oily skin but it’s very lightweight and doesn’t make my make up slide around. It absorbs pretty fast too. It contains hyaluronic acid which I love because it not only draws moisture into the skin but helps keep moisture in. I appreciate the fact it’s fragrance and colorant free. It’s not sticky and keeps my face feeling hydrated. I would highly recommend this to anyone with oily skin. The gel consistency makes it well worth it for anyone who needs something lightweight.

Best Drugstore Night Cream!!!
Best Drugstore Night Cream!!!
Texture: a thick, hydrating cream! To be completely honest, I’m someone who is very iffy about drugstore moisturizers because I assume they don’t use the best ingredients and I’m afraid it’ll ruin my skin. One day in the summer, I decided to pick this up at target because it was on sale, and I was actually having a really bad flare up due to the heat (i’m allergic to my own sweat). Once I put this on my skin, let me tell you IT DID WONDERS FOR MY SKIN!! There is a scent to this (I normally don’t use scented products on my face because of sensitivity), but I didn’t know that it was scented). Even though it smells amazing and there’s fragrance my skin didn’t react badly to it! I definitely suggest/recommend this to all skin types! Do I recommend? Neutrogena HydroBoost
I’ve been using this moisturizer cream all summer long because it’s the perfect light-weight hydration my skin needed! With hyaluronic acid it’s the perfect addition to my routine when my skin feels dry. I love how light-weight this product feels on my skin and how quickly it absorbs. The only thing I don’t like about this is the price tag (for a drug store product) and the added fragrance. Besides those two things, I have really enjoyed using this moisturizer!
