Almost returned COSRX Galactomyces Essence...

... but instead, I decided to experiment. First impressions This is not for me. Why?
Because it made my face oily throughout the day and highlighted the uneven texture of my skin.
Because I don’t want a product to highlight my flaws, I almost returned the product.
-What a hassle- So I thought, if it’s supposed to help other products absorb and aid in moisture retention, perhaps I just need to play with the products I use in conjunction with it. Second impressions
Experiment 1a)
Apply BEFORE RoC - Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules
retinol at night Follow with THE BODY DELI - Nourish Night Cream
Results The next morning my skins was not dry or flakey despite the retinol application. The moisturizer did it’s job but the night cream stung upon application
Experiment 1b)
Apply AFTER retinol at night Follow with night cream (Same products as above) Results Same as experiment 1a. Except, the essence did not sting upon application. The night cream still did. Thoughts on Exp. 1a&b I thought that maybe the cream stung because it interacted with the essence. Based on the results of changing up the layering sequence, I have concluded that the sting was from the retinol plus night cream; not from the essence and night cream. This is a super gentle product that helps retain moisture. Even with retinol, it did not burn my face. It was quite the opposite, very soothing. It is for this reason I continued to Experiment 2.
Experiment 2
Apply after GLAMGLOW - SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment Mask
(I don’t normally use mud masks anymore because they dry me out. Also, Despite being marketed to clear your pores, I see the little pore sebums poking through and not absorb the mask.) Results My face did not tighten up and feel parched and devoid of any moisture after immediately applying the essence post mud mask. I followed the essence with HERITAGE STORE - Rosewater Aromatherapy Water Rose Petals
to give it some extra goodness. Thoughts on Exp.2 It felt really good to put on the essence and rose water. I’m always a little sad to apply a cream or lotion after a mask because I’m trying to get the stuff OFF my face, and I would like to enjoy that deep clean feeling. These two products were the PERFECT solution to maintain that no-product feel without compromising moisture. Overall impression If you have oily/combo skin I would not recommend using this essence before your moisturizer in the AM because it might work too good and you’ll end up slick. Instead, use it as a treatment after products that dry you out. (Best in the PM.) If you have dry skin, perhaps this is why so many people rave that it is a godsend... it helps retain your moisturizer! Thoughts? Opinions? Advice? Let me know!

Morning Routine- Paula’s Choice
Hi guys! I recently purchased some new products from Paula’s Choice and decided to update my morning skin care routine. Thought I would share my routine here and then give you an update in a few months to let you know how the products performed! My skin: oily/combo, dehydrated patches from using tretinoin at night, clogged pores and comedonal acne, PIH, not sensitive. CLEANSER: CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin I’ve been using this for months and love it. Does a great job of removing everything yet not stripping my skin. One of the game changers in my routine has been cleansing for longer (30-60 sec) and GENTLY (don’t scrub or rub at your skin). TONER: PAULA'S CHOICE - Pore-Reducing Toner While toners aren’t necessary in general, this one I cannot live without. It is so hydrating and has my skin feeling so good. It contains niacinamide to help diminish look of pores and control oil. ESSENCE: COSRX - Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence I use this more as a serum than an “essence” but I like it a lot. Contains niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. Very hydrating yet perfect for my oily skin. EXFOLIANT: PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator Got this as a free sample. Only used it twice but I was surprised by how gentle and hydrating it was during application. However, my skin was pretty dry the next morning. I’m currently only using it once a week since I also use a strong retinoid at night. (Not a dealbreaker for me but this product smells BAD). TREATMENT: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster Azelaic acid has so many benefits and I’m sure you don’t need me to list them all here. Bought mostly to help fade PIH from acne spots. I use this 3-4 times per week. This formulation also includes salicylic acid so I don’t use this on the same day as the exfoliant. Azelaic acid is safe to use with almost any other skin care active. EYE CREAM: VERSED - VACATION EYES Brightening Eye Gel I haven’t made up my mind on eye creams in general yet but decided to try this to see if it helps with dark circles (contains vitamin C). I doubt it will but I’ll give it more time and update you all. SUNSCREEN: PAULA'S CHOICE - Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 Have used this twice and already it’s one of my favourite sunscreens. I’m partial to mineral sunscreens and I was surprised how light, easily spreadable and beautiful this looks and feels on my skin. It doesn’t leave a white cast or make my skin greasy. Has an amazing satin matte finish. This formula also contains antioxidants and resveratrol! Not super hydrating so if you have drier skin I’d place a moisturizer underneath, but for me it’s fine on its own. Let me know what you think!
Perfect if your skincare is missing hydration!
This was one of the first products that I actually bought for the ingredient list instead of hype. WHICH IS HOW I SHOULD SHOP FOR SKINCARE. This product has antioxidants, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and allantonin. All of these ingredients are amazing for hydrating the skin and decreasing sensitivity, both totally needed for my skin! I would really say this product would be appropriate for all skin types, even oily because of the addition of niacinamide. HOWEVER those with a confirmed case (please go to a doctor for this quit self-diagnosing, guys) of malassezia (pityrosporum) folliculitis or fungal “acne” should NOT use this product as the galactomyces can feed the yeast and exacerbate the problem. This product is a little sticky feeling on the skin and feels kind of gross at first because I live in SUCH a humid tropical climate but I have adjusted to it. I did take a star for that because it says essence and feels like a quite sticky serum. No fragrance and a great balance of naturally derived products and stable lab ingredients make for an excellent product. This is a perfect inexpensive step (I got it for $17 USD on Amazon) for anyone wanting to experiment with K-Beauty but is reactive/sensitive! COSRX - Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence
My skincare journey!
Hello! My name is Emily and I recently discovered this app and have decided to do what absolutely no one has asked for: explain my somewhat complicated skincare routine and my skin’s history! When I was in middle school I had what I called an acne-stache that I was constantly ashamed of, but you know... puberty be like that. In high school I didn’t really have many problems with my skin besides the occasional hormonal pimple. I even used coconut oil on my face nightly which is something that I would almost never do now (occasionally use it to remove stubborn eye makeup, but that’s pretty rare). Once I moved to Los Angeles from a small town in Northern California, sh*t hit the fan. The last 3 pictures provided show the mess that my skin became which was very weird to me because I had practically lived in LA every summer for around 8 years before moving there in 2017 and never had my skin act in such a way. So, pretty much since then I have been using natural skin care items and am proud of how far I’ve come. My skin’s not perfect (damn hormones) but it’s not too bad either. My most recent skincare routine consists of: Washing my face every other night with Incredible BY NATURE - African Black Soap . Then tone with HERITAGE STORE - Rosewater Aromatherapy Water Rose Petals to prep for GOOD MOLECULES - Niacinamide Serum or (once a week) GOOD MOLECULES - Overnight Exfoliating Treatment . Finally, I moisturize with Incredible BY NATURE - African Shea Butter . I know it sounds super complicated but basically I had been using the african black soap and shea butter nightly since May 2018 (after trying Burts Bees products with no avail) and as my skin got better I added more specific ingredients to target my main issues without causing more problems (and realized that only washing every other night was better for my skin for some unknown reason discovered by accident lol). By summer 2019 I was tired of making diy turmeric masks and decided to try The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution once a week which I liked, but —since I was only using it once a week— I had way too much left by the time it expired so I switched to Good Molecules overnight exfoliating treatment in summer 2020. (I love it and the niacinamide serum so far!). Also IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO USE SUNSCREEN especially when using “brighteners” like glycolic acid and whatnot. This is something I struggle to remember daily but I’m really trying and I’ve been using BARE REPUBLIC - Face Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 I give it 4 stars right now simply because I’m still not sure if it adds to my chin pimples or I’m just crazy, or possibly both..? Idk, but I love how velvety it feels when applying it to my face so I’ll keep using it.
🌤Easy A.M Routine🌤
I love to sleep, so the last thing I want to do at 5:30am when I wake up is a ridiculously long skincare routine. However, the A.M routine is just as important as your nighttime routine. Especially when it comes to UV protection. simple is sometimes all you need. 🌤🌤🌤🌤 I always use a cleanser with active ingredients in the A.M, really no particular reason other than so use a gentle one at night. Some by Mi- 30 Day Miracle Acne Clean Foam It’s really creamy, but if you have skin that’s more sensitive it may be a little drying. To me it smells like menthol and it does have a minty feeling. Usually this would be bothersome, but it’s super gentle. It also contains Centella Asiatica which is great for redness relief. I then liberally spray HERITAGE STORE - Rosewater Aromatherapy Water Rose Petals as a moisture/toner step. I don’t really need this step but I love the smell so much. It does provide some moisture but nothing too crazy. ETUDE - SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream This is by far my absolute favorite moisturizer. It sinks in really fast and has no scent and is perfect for any skin type. I can’t possibly count how many tubes I’ve purchase but it’s so so incredible. I love Korean eye creams. Unlike their western counterparts you get so much product for a very wallet friendly price. MIZON - Snail Repair Eye Cream is by far my favorite, the snail mucin can have brightening effects and I have seen a decrease in my dark circles, but it could be because I’ve been getting more sleep. My eyes are really sensitive and dry from allergies, but i’ve had no issues with irritation. It sits well under concealer and it’s the first eye cream that stops my concealer from creasing. My final step and obviously the MOST IMPORTANT is sunscreen. All you young humans please wear your sunscreen, you won’t regret it! I’ve been using Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ for around 8 years and its the best I have found so far. It has a very light scent, leaves no white cast, and is non greasy. It sinks in really quickly, and kind of acts as a primer for makeup because it has make me less oily. If you hate sunscreen, do yourself a favor and try this. I really don’t think you’ll regret it! 🌤🌤🌤🌤 Have you tried any of these products? If so what’s your favorite?

GLAMGLOW - SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment Mask #masking with @glamglow . The obsession and cult status of this charcoal mud mask is absolutely real and totally worthy! I love it so much that I always have a backup! . Made with a combination of charcoal, clay, a blend of 6 acids, and eucalyptus, this mask not only smells good, it provides instant, visible results with just a thin layer. . Activated-X Charcoal helps to attract toxins, debris and dirt from deep within your skin and pores, so much so, that as the mask dries, you can actually see the pore dots appear showing that the mask is working. . K-17 clay, kaolin clay, is an ultra-absorbent clay that works to extract extra moisture, reduce excess oil production, remove impurities, and helps reduce inflammation. . 6 acid blend, is a blend of both AHAs and BHAs that work together on different layers of the skin (both top and bottom) to help exfoliate the skin, unclog pores and remove impurities. The blend include- Glycolic, Salicylic, Lactic, Mandelic, Pyruvic, and Tartaric Acids. . Real Eucalyptus leaves are steeped in the mask to help deliver antioxidants into the formula and adds to the scent. . As an FYI- this product tingles once you put it on, that’s how you know it’s working. . Have you tried this mask? . . . . #glamglow #supermud #maskmonday #glamglowsupermud #sephora #cultbeauty

Activating Serum
Activating Serum
I finally got my hands on this bad boy! I’d been eyeing it for quite sometime. After a period of reading reviews and totally obsessing, I went for it. The serum comes resting in a beautiful, heavy, white, glass bottle with a saffron-colored pump and cap. The bottle itself comes in an equally gorgeous, white cardboard box, which is pictured. I usually only take photos of the product packaging if it excites me - this excited me. The simplicity of it all is phenomenally executed throughout the packaging theme. This product is totally luxurious; the look, the feel. Everything. This is how you present a serum. Upon first use, one will notice 4 things: technique, texture, scent, and color. This serum is meant to be the first thing one puts on after cleansing the face. This serum is loaded with goodies, including Sulwhasoo’s JAUM Balancing Complex, yet the texture is quite watery. I was expecting something more gel-like, so this is something I was surprised about! Next is the scent. This is not going to be everybody’s cup-of-tea. It’s very herbal, and there is a slight alcohol scent. But the smell overall is not as strong as most people will say it is, and it does dissipate completely once it comes into contact with the skin. When it comes to the color, it’s this beautiful amber color. What does this do? Mainly, this is used to help other products sink-in more deeply than they normally would. Secondly, it’s going to help with all of one’s anti-aging needs, due to being packed with goodies! Lastly, this is supposed to balance the skin. Sulwhasoo’s main objective seems to be focusing on balancing the skin, so that it may, in-turn, become more healthy and radiant. From a personal perspective, so far, this serum is positively a joy to use. It sinks in quickly, doesn’t aggravate my super sensitive skin, and it looks pretty. I love it so much! The first time I applied it, shortly afterwards, I noticed that my skin looked smoother and my pores looked more refined. I also love the scent. If you’ve ever been to an Aveda salon, spa, or store; that smell that lingers in the air is what this smells like. Well, almost. The serum’s scent is stronger. Lastly, the packaging is A TOTAL WIN FOR ME. I love how the brand has, well, branded themselves. It’s simply perfect. Like I stated previously, this product is totally luxurious. I do have some concerns though. This has alcohol and a small amount of silicone lingering throughout. We’ve all been told to stay away from alcohol, and I have personally had reactions to products containing silicone (mostly dimethicone though). But, this is going well so far! So I’m hopeful. Since I’m still in the trial period, I’ll add a rating later on. I need to see if this lives up to the claims, and also see if I have any negative reactions. I just had to show off this beautiful product! Sulwhasoo - First Care Activating Serum

Honeymoon Glow the latest addi
Honeymoon Glow the latest addition into my Honey goodness collection that is farmacy. 🍯 Honeymoon Glow I have to admit I sampled this a lot before I took the plunge. This serum is unlike any I’ve ever tried. Although this serum contains 14% AHA/BHA acids it is so gentle on the skin. It also contains a Proprietary Honey Blend that is known for its soothing components. Honeymoon glow promotes cell renewal, targets hyperpigmentation & exfoliates dead skin cells. 🍯I used this 1-3 times a week during my PM routine & I kid you not, my skin not only felt smooth but was VISIBLY smooth as well. It does tingle the first time you use it but nothing alarming. I would also say if you suffer from congested pores like blackheads or acne scars this is your baby right here! I tend to get blackheads around my nose area & this has helped with that significantly. Minimized pores ✔️ Smooth skin ✔️ Glowing skin ✔️ This product is yet another home run for me in the farmacy line.

Exfoliation Series Part 4
Exfoliation Series Part 4
Last post I went over what chemical exfoliation is, this post I’ll touch on different forms. First you have your serums- such as Honeymoon Glow and T.L.C Framboos to name a couple These are daily serums you can use day or night- I tend to only use them at night. They have less concentration then say a mask, which makes them gentle enough to use daily and to leave on the skin without rinsing off. I’ve reviewed both of these products before so I won’t bore you again but I will just say that I like TLC better because it’s a combination of AHA and BHA where Honeymoon Glow focuses on AHA only Second you have the mask treatments. Such as Herbivore’s Prism and Drunk Elephants BabyFacial. These masks carry higher concentration of the acids. They can be left on for up to 20 minutes each. I wouldn’t recommend leaving on for longer than the time on the package because you can damage your skin barrier. Another mask similar to these is The Ordinarys Peeling Solution. I like that mask quite a bit but it is the strongest out of the three I would say, and they don’t recommend leaving on your skin for longer than 8-10 minutes. Masks you should use 1-2 times a week to see results Side note that whenever you use acids or retinol in your skincare routine you REALLY need to make sure you protect yourself skin from the sun. And the reason is these products are constantly turning over your skin cells and leave your fresh baby skin more susceptible to damage and burns. Minimum 30 SPF but 50 would be even better.

PaulasChoice Radiance Renewal
PaulasChoice Radiance Renewal Mask! Despite using this more or less on the daily for 2 years, I still haven’t reviewed this staple! 💸 Cost: £35/$36 for 50ml/1.fl.oz but Paula’s Choice regularly have 15-20% discounts. 🔍 What it does/Formula: an overnight ‘sleeping mask’ (or can be used as a moisturiser, as I do) featuring brightening agents (Niacinamide, Arbutin, Bearberry Extract and MAP - a stable form of Vitamin C) to target skin tone/pigmentation. The mask comprises of film formers + dimethicone to form a barrier and reduce TEWL and so an excellent option for combo-oily skins. It’s a light gel-cream but does form a decent barrier - not cloying nor is it too rich. It’s very similar to the PC brightening essence in regards to the brightening agents, but in a different format, if you prefer creamier textures. I use both + usually alternate AM/PM. 🔍 How I use it: As a moisturiser, sometimes in the AM + others in PM, as the last step in my routine. In the PM, I’ll mix it with 1-2 drops of a facial oil to negate the slight tackiness. 🔍 Results: I first introduced this 2 years ago when I initially started using Differin, as my usual moisturiser wasn’t nourishing enough to negate the side effects. As with most moisturisers, I was anticipating breakouts but I’ve had great success with this. I saw quite a significant difference when I first introduced this! Partly, (I presume) because redness + dehydration were reduced with the effects of Niacinamide, which I previously didn’t have in my routine, but also because my skin was finally being adequately moisturised (which would happen with any sufficient moisturiser). However, I did continue to see significant improvements beyond the instant gratification, particularly with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne fading at a much quicker rate. Since then, this simply never fails me. I can use it in every season, day or night. It doesn’t exacerbate oil production, plays well with most products (I find makeup can pill though) + it’s my go-to whenever my skin is throwing a tantrum. I’ve been through probably 8-10 bottles in the past two years, which is a testament to how much I love it.

Myth: Oils Are No Good
Myth: Oils Are No Good
This is so ridiculous! Of course a facial oil isn’t going to be good for everyone, nor is one particular oil going to work for everyone- but that doesn’t mean oils shouldn’t be used no matter your skin type. The beautiful thing about there being an abundant of brands and ingredients out there, is that you are bound to find something that works for you. Whether it’s marula, Argan, camellia, squalane, grape seed or rosehip oil, or has BHA, retinol, vitamin c, or botanicals, something will suit your skin. Here’s a few tips! I used to always use an oil right before my moisturizer because I wanted the benefits of that oil to work on my skin deeply. What I didn’t know, was that the oil was making a layer that my moisturizer couldn’t penetrate and it was actually drying out my skin a little bit and making my moisturizer useless. So now I use it as my final step (but still before sunscreen in the morning) to seal in that moisturizer and all the hydration and my skin has been reacting so much better! Another one, is to try and research what oil would work best for you. Even though I’m dry, I’m still so prone to clogged pores and need super lightweight oils - so I opt for oils like Fresh Seaberry, Drunk Elephant Marula and Biossance Squalane (I need another bottle ASAP). Also, you can find oils that have properties to help with certain concerns. Like Sunday Riley UFO targets breakouts and Rosehip oil (like Instanatural) targets dark spots. I believe in oils and believe they can help anyone since they are so occlusive that they keep moisture and water in to help with healthy skin function and it’s barrier. Cool right? So if you’re scared of facial oils, I hope you’ll reconsider and try to find one that could become your holy grail!
Dermalogica skin barrier repair product that I CAN'T live without!💖
Dermalogica skin barrier repair product that I CAN'T live without!💖
I have sensitive skin that can easily irritated especially in summers. I usually use Dermalgica's products for skin repair. They are truly my savior that I can't live without. So let's get started! 😜 Dermalogica Barrier Repair dermalogica - UltraCalming Barrier Repair It is a product that performs perfect in both using experience and effects. The texture is gel with excess oily content. It is a very comfortable and fresh feeling on the face. I generally use it as a morning cream. It works well in calming skin when used with the same series of serum. dermalogica - UltraCalming Serum Concentrate Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque dermalogica - Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask The formula contains anti-aging, balancing, and moisturizing ingredients. It is very good for calming skin and soothing redness. It is also great in brightening skin. It is suitable for use as a first-aid mask. Compared with other skin repair products, it is wallet-friendly. 🤣 What I like the most of this product is that after washing it off, there will be a comfortable cooling feeling left in skin for a couple of minutes. I love this feeling as I have dry and sensitive skin. It makes my skin feels more relief and soothing. 😘
