Going Beyond “Clean Beauty” Labels
My thoughts on clean beauty: @cherie Ann wrote an article about my clean journey ☺️ ((Im not wearing any makeup in this picture at all 💓)) A major thing to take away from the word “clean” is what is truly clean🙁? And what it means to you. Not everyone wants or needs to use cleaner products. But at the end of the day cleaner labeled products can be more effective for your skin needs. So many products contain ingredients that are just not needed or do the opposite of what the product is made to achieve- like putting an alcohol in a moisturizer, this will just make you skin even drier. Going for cleaner products should mean going for clean ingredients as well. What I do for a clean life style: ⭐️Disclaimer: I’m a (junior) biomedical student. So much of what I write here is my personal opinion based on what I’ve learned about the human body and how it works at a university level, but many of these I’m about to explain can be verified by doctors. I’m not a doctor. This is what worked for me and my body⭐️ Overall I’ve learned that you can’t just use these cleaner beauty products/ skincare on the surface and not do anything where it truly counts- from within. Clean beauty for me in more recent years has been discovering what things I can use/eat to nourish my body from the inside. Little to no sugar or heavy carbohydrates like white bread or pasta, NO added color ever. I’ve cut out almost all dairy products (expect for cheese 😩😍) and I take NEOCELL - Super Collagen

BriannaHi ❤️(( depending on your skin )) going with products that have similar pH balances (measure of alkalinity or acidity) in the skin. most companies would label their products with this if the product is similar. You want to stick with things that are a natural creation from your body if you’re going clean or what’s close to it. Staying away from drying products added for “experience” like dyes, perfum/fragrance/essential oils all = alcohol based and will dry out the skin. Doing more harm than good.

I’ve been testing the Briogeo 100% Organic + Cold Pressed Castor Oil for the last week. It’s for hair, brows, lashes & skin. Here’s the deets! TEXTURE This stuff is clear & thick. It has a soft feel to it & not slimey or slippery. It sinks in well the way a lotion would. I like to use this on my cuticles & elbows ☺️ USES FOR HAIR So I used this on my dry hair at roots & ends. When the stuff soaks in at the ends you’re left with extremely baby soft hair! At the roots it’s not greasy but if you over do it it can kind of look that way. It’s not thick of enough to tame my edges but I it’s great for softness & shine. I also used this on wet hair (I like better on dry) & directly on my scalp. When I parted my hair into four sections & ran some on my scalp the relief from tight itchy dryness was amazing!! It felt so good! It can look a little unwashed in that area but I wear my hair in ponytail daily & love that high shine soft look. Also good for brows & lashes & comes with tiny pink wands ✔️ Versatile ✔️ Cruelty Free ✔️ Vegan ✔️ Gluten Free ✔️ Fair Trade Free of 6 no-no’s!! 👏🏻 Rich in omega fatty acids, vitamin e, & riconolieic acid
While I do love products which take general care of skin and hair, sometimes it’s fun to focus on one or two tiny details- like eyebrows and eyelashes. My permanent quest for silky brows led me to trying the briogeo B. Well Castor Oil, part of their line of two 100 percent natural oils designed to target specific concerns. In the case of the castor oil, this product (derived from castor beans) contains ricinoleic acid (an anti-inflammatory), unsaturated fatty acids (Omega 6 and 9), and the antioxidant Vitamin E. As well as being an effective moisturiser for face, hair and bodies, Briogeo recommends applying this (very carefully) with a cotton bud to eyelashes and eyebrows to strengthen and condition. For me the results are fairly impressive. After using it overnight I certainly have considerably silkier eyebrows and my eyelashes appear slightly glossier. I have also been using this as a pre-shampoo treatment on the very ends of my hair and am also pleased with how hydrated they feel. I have a feeling this would work well on any particularly dry patches, such as elbows or knees. Plus points: Natural, organic, Fair Trade, a powerful moisturiser Minuses: Pretty expensive for just one ingredient. However this oil has been cold-pressed- a gentle process which preserves the highest possible amount of nutrients. It is also extremely thick so I only need the tiniest amount and it should last quite a while.
HUM Daily Cleanse
🛁It’s been a really busy week for me so this won’t be the most in depth review but here’s some cute pictures of Hum Daily Cleanse which has saved my skin in this weird bout of 30 year old acne I’m having. I’m not a huge supplement person but my skin has been clear, bright, hydrated, and not getting randomly super oily throughout the day. Highly recommend if your skin is freaking out. 🛁How do you guys feel about skin/hair supplements? Tell me your favorites.

amazing mascara. lengthening, volumizing and smells good. love that it’s clean ILIA - Limitless Lash Mascara
“No Makeup” Look
Loving this natural, glowy, “no-makeup” look. Perfect for the weekend! CHANEL - Rouge coco flash Shade: 56 Moment The formula is that of a balm and very comfortable. Provides a sheer splash of color to the lips, perfect to apply without a mirror. CHANEL - Les beiges water fresh tint Shade: Medium Light Provides barely there coverage - which is what I am loving lately! This is one of my favorite base products to use... so it’s always somewhere in the mix! CHANEL - LES 4 OMBRES Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow Shade: 266 Tissé Essentiel Very basic palette, but I love the neutral tones in this palette which creates a very subtle smokey-eye. Provides subtle definition. Perfect for the daytime. This is a very powdery palette though, wish the shadows were slightly more creamy. Kosas - REVEALER SUPER CREAMY + BRIGHTENING Concealer Shade: 3.5 Color tends to run on the more yellow side, I should have gotten shade 2 or 3 to brighten the under eye area. Overall though, I do like the formula. Very creamy and easy to blend. rms beauty - Un" Powder This gets the job done, not the best out there. But, there is no talc in this formula! rms beauty - LIVING LUMINIZER GLOW QUAD MINI I love color variety and travel size products - so extra brownie points since this quad allows me to play with shades that I otherwise would pass up on. This provides the subtle lit from within glow. Although, some of the shades you really do need to build up. Glossier. - Cloud Paint Shade: Dusk Can’t say enough good things about cloud paint. Love how easy it is to just pat into the face for a subtle flush of color. ILIA - Limitless Lash Mascara Shade: After Midnight I have very short and straight lashes. This mascara makes them look so long! I have thrown out all my other mascaras and am only using this one! benefit - Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel Shade: 4.5 Another one of those that always appear in my posts in terms of brow products!

Umbra is non-irritating, non-sensitizing and totally free of fragrance and essential oils, suitable for all skin tones and types, including the most sensitive. Retails $34
Drunk Elephant Line Rapid Review: Part 1
Brief peeks into my latest opinions of various Drunk Elephant products: • DRUNK ELEPHANT - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser is a deep-cleaning gel cleanser that is strong enough to take off sweat and sunscreen, but I find it needs a primary cleanse if I’m wearing makeup. Can be bit harsh if I’m having an eczema flare-up but is otherwise gentle and good for most skin. • DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser is a super gentle balm cleanser that I love to leave on as a moisturizing mask before I use it to wash off my makeup. Doesn’t irritate my eyes and is perfect for sensitive skin. • DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum is a potent vitamin c serum that lightens hyperpigmentation very well within months of use. However, it is too potent for my skin, so I dilute it heavily if I use it. • DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum makes skin so soft and smooth! It helps bumpy texture wonderfully. Again, super potent- I have to be sure to use a small amount dilute in a serum and applied over top of my moisturizer. Improves skin texture very fast. • DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer with Ceramides is and always will be a favourite. Creamy yet fluffy. Rich and quenching. Perfect for sensitive skin. Never leaves me shiny! • DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask is another favourite- it’s perfect for dehydrated, dry, or sensitive skin. I always use it after an acid product to prevent inflammation and sensitivity. A surprising texture, due to the beads of fatty acids, and it soaks in quickly. • DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial 25% AHA + 2% BHA Mask is so, so, so potent! It’s amazing. A single use leaves my skin baby soft and glowing. However, the potency that gives instant results makes it so strong that I can only use it every other week. But I’ll keep doing so because it’s so wonderful feeling my smooth, soft skin afterwards. • DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Antioxidant Face Oil is the best oil I’ve ever tried in terms of super fast absorption and lack of shine. It leaves me dewy, not greasy, and a couple drops is the perfect boost to my moisturizers. It is a bit pricy though considering I only use it in the PM unless it’s winter, making the quick absorption only important for 3 months of the year. • DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 No white cast, no tingling, no congestion. Buuut I am a little shiny if I use this in the summer, so this is my preferred winter sunscreen and would be perfect for dry-skinned folks.

Do’s and don’ts of dry skin
As I’ve posted previously we all know at this point that I have dry skin. I’d love to talk about some do’s and dont’s for others with skin like mine! Do layer moisturizers! I usually start with a light gel like cream. I let that sink in then go for a heavier richer cream before topping off with an oil Don’t be afraid to use oil in the summer! My skin is dry year round, it gets worse in winter but I still benefit from a nice light oil to lock in moisture Don’t use drying clay masks too often! I love a good clay mask but nothing sucks the moisture out like a clay mask. Use sparingly! Do use chemical exfoliators, just because your skin is dry doesn’t mean you won’t breakout or have closed comodones (I know I do) I use an aha/BHA mask to clear out pores Don’t cleanse with hot water. Cool water is better and doesn’t dry out the skin as much. I’m still guilty of this one on occasion 😆 Do use hydrating masks! I love a good leave on mask that really takes its time to sink into the skin. The perfect daily spf
A sheer physical sunscreen that delivers powerful broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and aids in the prevention of free radical and oxidative damage. This is my second favorite spf (umbra tint is my first favorite) Doesn’t leave my face greasy. No white cast. Clean ingredients that don’t irritate my face or cause breakouts. Reapplies smoothly & easily doesn’t peel upon reapplication like some spf’s I’ve tried. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30
DRUNK ELEPHANT-Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30
Every. Single. Day. ☀️ glossier invisible shield - my weekend warrior & the only SPF I’ve used that feels super lightweight, goes on clear and doesn’t cause breakouts. It wears beautifully under makeup and most importantly, prevents premature aging by protecting against sun damage caused by UVA/UVB rays.
Top 5 sunscreen - especially for acne-prone skin
Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I will be the first to admit that I was not serious about sun protection in my youth, but now I’m on the sunscreen train and never coming off. One of the reasons why I never wanted to wear face sunscreen was because it would leave me with inevitable breakouts. It took me a long time to find formulas that work with my skin and Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen is now my go-to. 💛💛💛 What I really love about it is that it’s oil-free and doubles as a makeup primer. It literally glides across the skin with its velvety formula and leaves it prepped for makeup, so you don’t have to worry about layering anything on top of it and potentially overwhelming your pores. (I do, however, add a little bit of a glowing on top of it to my high points for a dewier glow but Unseen Sunscreen has the rest of your skin covered!) 💛💛💛 The only thing I cannot vouch for is it’s shine controlling properties. My skin is oily enough to begin with and if it’s a stressful or sweaty day, there’s nothing that can stop my shine (this low-key sounds inspirational?? Lol) 💛💛💛 I would definitely recommend to a friend, especially if they have acne-prone skin. It's a little expensive ($32) compared to other sunscreens, but it really works and a little goes a loooong way.

Tatcha Silken Sunscreen
My love for all things Tatcha is pretty strong! Their Silken Sunscreen is used to protect your skin from the sun. It also has ingredients that work to help with anti-aging and truly leaves your skin silky after application. It almost feels like a nice matte primer. It is silky and smooth in texture and applies beautifully. This is my second bottle of this sunscreen. I've been using it for about a year now. I was intrigued by its claims to leave you with a matte silky finish as most sunscreens tend to leave me greasy after an hour or so. I absolutely love this product. It works so well with my skin and doesnt break me out. It doesnt leave any white cast after it dries. It's priced pretty high at $65 for 2 ounces, so I can't say that I'd recommend it to everyone. Tatcha does sell a smaller deluxe sample size, so if you cant commit to the full price, that would be a great opportunity. I read that there may be other matte sunscreens out there, so I may purchase a different brand once this bottle runs out! 4.5/5 stars!TATCHA - Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++
TATCHA-Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++
TATCHA - Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++ As you can see i love tatcha products. This sunscreen does not leave a white cast or leave a greasy residue after you apply it. Its lightweight and blends so beautifully, leaving poreless looking skin. It contains Japanese wild rose - tightens pores and smooths skin texture; loquat leaf extract - rich source of antioxidants to protect and calm skin. Tatcha’s sunscreen contains Zinc Oxide 15% (suggested percentage is 15%-20%) is a mineral based sunscreen, it reflects harmful UVA/UVB rays off the surface of the skin. Zinc oxide has one of the broadest spectrum protective qualities. Also, zinc oxide is non-comedogenic, which means its unlikely to cause breakouts or acne! Another top ingredient in Tatcha’s sunscreen is Octisalate 5%, an emollient that keeps skin soft and prevents the formula from degrading in the sun. And obviously their other main ingredient is Japanese wild rose, which supports natural circulation and calms with antioxidants. I am on my second tube and would definitely repurchase. I love this sunscreen addition to my skin care routine. Its $65 for a 60ml tube, i know steep, but it’s so good. Also, important to reapply every 2 hours while exposed to sun!

Sun ☀️ protection 365
This is my holy grail sunscreen! 🌞 Have you tried the UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 from Elta MD Skincare yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Just about every esthetician I know recommends and sells this sunscreen. It goes on smoothly. It sinks into your skin. You can apply makeup without using a primer and it won’t pill on you. As a woman of color it’s so hard to find a sunscreen that won’t leave me with a white cast. I don’t have to worry about that with this sunscreen. I also love that it has great SPF coverage and doesn’t have any fragrances. Elta MD claims this zinc oxide sunscreen will also calm and protect acne prone skin. It also contains niacinamide, which helps with moisture. I can’t stress enough the importance of wearing sunscreen daily, especially when using AHA’s/BHA’s and other actives in your skincare routine. Sunscreen helps to protect your skin from harmful Ultra Violet rays from the sun, which can potentially lead to skin cancer. While it’s great to apply sunscreen the key is to reapply it throughout the day. Also, sunscreen should be worn year-round not just during the summer. You can find this sunscreen online for about $35 for 1.7 ounces. It also comes in a tinted version. 4.5 stars ✨
