My Favourite Exfoliation and Moisturiser Routine

The days when you exfoliate and moisturise really do “be like that”, don’t they! I absolutely live for the days when I get to do a more in-depth skincare routine and get a fresh glow going. My favourite products at the moment include a subtle physical exfoliant, an acid exfoliant, and two moisturising products. Generally, I use Murad - AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser
once a week, because physical exfoliants are just so satisfying. The granular texture of this cleanser is super fine, and so is much more gentle as far as physical exfoliants go. You always want to avoid big “chunks” in an exfoliant as they easily create micro-tears on the skin. On days when I use the Murad cleanser, I follow up with The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane
which has a pleasant “dry oil” texture. I massage it into my skin gently but with firm fingers, massaging in circular motions for about a minute. For a day or two after, I’ll stick to my Simple - Hydrating Cleansing Oil
and CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin
to keep my skin fresh. A day or two later, I’ll use The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA
on clean, dry skin. I then wait at least 15 minutes before applying a generous amount of my Cerave moisturiser to rehydrate my freshly exfoliated skin. It’s important to be aware of how often your exfoliate. It’s super easy to over-exfoliate your skin and cause MORE redness, inflammation and breakouts than what you may be trying to remedy. Acids and serums are very irritating to inflamed pimples, especially hormonal breakouts, so be weary of your skin condition and the best advice for dealing with your concerns. As a rule, I don’t exfoliate more than twice per week, usually sticking to one. And always, always moisturise your skin after a few minutes. The wait allows your skin’s PH balance to settle, and the moisturiser stops your exfoliant from drying you out.

1 week update
thanks to all lovely beauties out there to take their time and add a comment on my last post. I was devastated by breakout, i was having from last 2-3 weeks and nothing seems to be working. Well i guess too many exfoliants was making my skin too sensitive so now i am back to basics. I have started what i was doing in the beginning and that seems to be working just fine. I think i was selfish to have a great skin in no time 🥴. If someone is just curious what i am doing right now then lets go to products. AM: The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser sukin - Pore Perfecting Toner Blemish Control it has tree oil which is good for acne prone skin The Ordinary - Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+ as i have sensitive and oily skin this makes my face matte and oil free. I really like this one for oily skin or combination skin PM: The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser sukin - Pore Perfecting Toner Blemish Control The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (only on spots and acne 2-3 times a week) The Ordinary - Mandelic Acid 10% + HA (once a week) The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (once a week) The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque (once a week) The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane tea tree oil only on spots Even if i have listed so many items i feel i have very basic skin care routine as most of the products are being used weekly or only 2-3 times a week. But in the end this routine is working out for me and i am seeing good progress which makes me happy. Again thanks to all who suggested me before ❤️❤️

Purging or breaking out ??
Can someone tell me if its purging or i am just started breaking out after almost 3 months of using The ordinary products ?? It was getting better but now on one side its getting worse. Products i am using AM The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+ PM The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque OR The Ordinary - Mandelic Acid 10% + HA OR The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane I have combination skin but after some research i have decided to go with these ones. If its only purging then i am happy but purging suppose to happen everywhere on face and this is only on left cheek specially on jawline that hurts ☹️ Thinking to use PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator to give it a try Thanks a lot lovely ladies

One Year Progress
Exactly one year apart! I started my skincare journey 9 months ago. I primarily use Glow Recipe, but am slowly venturing out and replacing my lesser favorites of their products. These are some of my tips and holy grails! GLOW RECIPE - Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream holy crap this stuff really helped my redness, that was my biggest skin concern 2-3 times a week I do a chemical and physical exfoliant, I got this one in a boxy charm box and fell in love. I would recommend doing this in the shower and leaving it on your face for a couple minutes to really absorb the acids. Also I would recommend skipping the serums and night masks after this. Just use toner, eye cream, and moisturizer. Murad - AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser I mix a vitamin C serum in with my AHA every other morning. I’m undwerwhelmed with GLOW RECIPE - Pineapple-C Bright Serum I don’t hate it, but I think I can find better once I run out. However I love their GLOW RECIPE - Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid Serum it is gentle enough (for my skin) to use every morning and night, and one pump is all you need! double cleansing is a must! I’ll just use the tiniest bit of GLOW RECIPE - Papaya Sorbet Smoothing Enzyme Cleansing Balm even when I’m not wearing makeup because it has a lot of good ingredients for your skin. However if your skin is feeling dry, I’d skip it and just use a water based cleanser. I am also underwhelmed with GLOW RECIPE - Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser I’m going to use it for before and after my workouts, but not worth the price point. Plus it is irritating if it gets in your eyes. I just ordered FARMACY - Whipped Greens: Oil-Free Foaming Cleanser With Moringa and Papayafor my morning and night cleanser and I am beyond excited to try it. a nice spray is a must! I use it after I cleanse and after I shower. J.R. WATKINS - Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin Spray this stuff is soo good!! My face is so soft after I have to force myself not to touch it. I loved GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist but I got to say I like the Heritage one and it is wayy cheaper. don’t be afraid of supplements! I just got some vitamin E supplements and I’ve been taking magnesium and collagen everyday too. lastly look into anti-aging pillows and silk/satin pillowcases. This is especially important for side sleepers. If you sleep on your side, you are smushing your face against it. When you are young, your skin is elastic enough to bounce back, but you’re hurting your skin over time. YourFacePillow - Anti Wrinkle Back & Side Sleeping Pillow

My Worst Products of 2020
1. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser Deluxe Sample : I’m gonna need Drunk Elephant to go to the lab a 10th time because this cleanser is not it. Despite this cleanser having a “mild surfactant blend”, it honestly feels like applying apricot Softsoap on the face. It’s incredibly drying and leaves a film on the face. I’m not a It also doesn’t take off makeup properly. I immediately ditched it after a second use. I am NOT a chemist, but I honestly think the cleanser should be reformulated to have more emollient ingredients. 2. Murad - AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser Their magenta line is more targeted towards people who have dry skin. Many dry skin people like myself have sensitive skin. A cleanser with both physical AND chemical exfoliation can be harsh for any skin type, but ESPECIALLY for people with dry/sensitive skin. Also, the lay person who doesn’t know skincare and how often to exfoliate can easily over-exfoliate since the product is marketed as a cleanser. My initial ignorance of skincare plus the overall harshness of this product caused my skin barrier to become severely weak and damaged. Better to use a gentle cleanser and then a leave on exfoliant. 3. Murad - Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture This moisturizer is 75 dollars. When a 75 dollar moisturizer promises 24 hour moisture, it should deliver on its promise. After 4 hours of usage, my skin felt dry and tight again. For a moisturizer that boasts about its “advanced hyaluronic acid technology”, hyaluronic acid is pretty low on the ingredient list. The intense markup on this is probably due to the Retinyl palmitate, a retinol derivative. I give it two stars because it did slightly fade a fine line by my mouth, but this moisturizer failed in it’s basic duty/main reason of purchase: moisturizing. Not only did I use this year to become more educated about skincare, but a big lesson I learned is more expensive does not always mean better!

🧼Rebuilding My Moisture Barrier💧🤍
It’s always a balancing act when it comes from skincare. 😅 at least for me! Haha 💧I’ve had adult acne and have acne-primed skin, so when it comes to finding the right products that don’t over-strip my skin but also keep my breakouts & acne under control...you could say it’s been a journey! 💧If you saw one of my recent posts about my retinol breakout 😪 I’m back to familiar territory aka flaky, dry, inflamed skin aka my moisture barrier is damaged. And with the colder months, I’ve been spending more time trying to repair it. 💧These are some of the products that have been helping me: 🧴COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence : I recently purchased this essence and have really loved the effects. I use it after cleansing and find that it helps when I use it when my skin is still damp! It’s made my skin so soft & since it’s an essence, it allows for my other products to penetrate deeper into my skin. I will say, for those who are not really familiar with essences (especially this one), many often have a gel-like texture that isn’t super typical in some products (slightly sticky & for this one, slimy). 🧴CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin : my tried and true!!! I’ve been layering this product on, especially at night after the essence. Day or night, this lotion is a must-have in my book. It doesn’t feel oily on my skin and the hyalauronic acid is such a bonus since this an ingredient that helps draw in moisture into the skin. 🧴Krave - The Beet Shield : WORTH THE HYPE! Love Krave Beauty and I LOVE the Beet Shield. The texture is amazing, super light and dried down pretty quickly without a white cast. It makes me WANT to put on sunscreen and not just feel like I NEED to. 〰️After cutting back on the steps in my routine, and feeling& seeing results, I’ve been reintroducing these products for gentler exfoliation!〰️ 🧼CLARISMA - Cali Dreaming Cream Daily Moisturizer : the Clarisma moisturizer is super light and something I’ll typically wear during the day. It’s gentle and I like to wear it on days I’m inside especially since it is a lighter moisturizer and when I’m outside in the cold, I prefer something heavier. 🧼CLARISMA - Malibu Blush Exfoliating Scrub : the most gentle exfoliator! The exfoliating scrub isn’t at all like other physical exfoliants. The Luffa fruit breaks down when you use it so no micro tears with this one. The enzymes used also provide such a gentler exfoliation unlike most harsh acids. It also doesn’t cause hyperpigmentation, which I’ve experienced in the past with acids. 🏹Let me know what’s helped you with repairing or protecting your moisture barrier! 🤍

Reviewing My Followers Skincare Routines pt. 4
Hey ya’ll! In part 4 of Reviewing My Followers Skincare Routines we’re reviewing @Raks and @juliachristine’s skincare routines. Starting with @Rakswho reached out to me via Cherie message because she started skincare about a year ago because of her upcoming wedding. She starts by cleansing with theThursday Plantation - Tea Tree Face Wash Foam which costs $8.99 for 5.1 fl oz. This cleanser is very basic. It has tea tree oil, and eucalyptus oil. My issue is with the eucalyptus oil, which is a very irritating essential oil right up there with lemon oil and peppermint oil. If this doesn’t irritate your skin then it’s a great cleanser, but I can’t recommend it to those with sensitive skin. Then she goes in with 4 serums. First is thepura d'or - 20% Vitamin C Serum which costs $14.99 for 4 fl oz. This is a really good serum. It has aloe vera juice, glycerin, jojoba oil, and argan oil which are hydrating ingredients, and then it has hylaronic acid, retinol, and Vitamin C. I love it! Then she uses#The Ordinary - Nicinamide Serum[products]#[FiveStars] which costs $5.90 for 1 fl oz. We’ve talked a lot about this serum, it’s very good. Next is the#Tree Of Life - Hylaronic acid serum[products]#[TwoStars] which costs $10.95 for 1 fl oz. I don’t like this serum. It started off good with hylaronic acid, aloe vera juice, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C, but it contains way too many Essential oils and irritating extracts. And her final serum is theSkinMedica - LYTERA 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum which costs $130.90 for 2 fl oz, which is very expensive. This is not worth the price. It has nicinamide and glycerin, and then some not very researched acids. I don’t recommend continuing use of this serum. Then to moisturize she goes in with theOLAY - Regenerist Regenerating Day Cream which costs $29.99 for 1.7 fl oz. I don’t like this moisturizer. Let’s start with some positives. It has nicinamide, glycerin, and Vitamin B3. Now it has a lot of bad ingredients also. It has Sodium Laureth Sulfate, which is a harsh cleansing agent, as well as fragrance being the 6th ingredient. The she uses a Neutrogena sunscreen, and occasionally usesThe Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution which costs $7.20 for 1 fl oz. This is a great exfoliant. I think @Raks is using too many serums. I would stick to only the Pura D’or and The Ordinary serum, and ditch the other two. Keep the cleanser, and maybe try a different moisturizer. You asked for mineral sunscreen reccomendations for dark skin tones that don’t have a white cast, so I got you girl! I have light skin, but I did some research and I’d recommend the#First Aid Beauty - Weightless Mineral SPF 30[products]#[FiveStars] which costs $34 for 1.5 fl oz, and the #Biossance - Squalane Zinc Sheer SPF 30[products]#[FiveStars] which costs $30 for 1.7 fl oz. Both of these have minimal white cast, and Skincare by Hyram recommends them. Next is @juliachristine’s night routine. She starts off by cleansing with the #Vanicream - Unscented Gentle Cleanser[products]#[ThreeStars] witch costs $8.99 for 8 fl oz. This a nice basic cleanser with glycerin. Next she uses the#OBAGI - Tretinoin 0.025% Cream[products]#[TwoStars] which costs $84 for .7 fl oz. This cream has tretinoin which is a Vitamin A derivative which can treat acne, as well as retinol which also Vitamin A. I don’t think it’s worth the price, but it’s okay. Next she uses the #The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%[products]#[FourStars] which costs $7.99 for 1 fl oz. Along with azelaic acid, it has dimethicone which is a great moisturizer for dry skin. Next she uses theCeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin which costs $17.99 for 15 fl oz. Y’all know I love this product! Finally she finishes off with theVERSED - ZERO-G Smoothing Eye Cream witch costs $17.99 for .5 fl oz. Eye cream is definitely not necessary but this one is great! It has glycerin, algae extract, and olive oil which are hydrating, along with shea butter and a blend of peptides which can help firm the skin and increase collagen production which can help reduce fine lines around the eyes. Overall @juliachristine your routine looks great! That’s it for this post please cheer for this post if you liked it, comment your opinions on these products, and follow me for similar content. Upcoming posts include a 1 month Curology review and unnecessary skincare steps you don’t need. -Mae

Only 3 months left on Roaccutane
Dermatologist appointment went well on Tuesday. She dropped me down to 10mg a day and said May will be my last month on Roaccutane! She said because my skin is so clear I could stop now, but I’d rather stick to the 12 month plan my GP suggested. I’ve been lucky not to get crazy side effects, and while there is still a chance of acne coming back I trust my derm’s plans for after stopping the medication. I’ll be getting prescribed a tretinoin moisturiser, and by November/December we will start laser treatment to help smooth out the deep scarring and hyperpigmentation. Also can’t wait to continue my tattoo journey once my skin is back to normal, I think that’s been the only truly hard part of this journey 😂 Simple - Hydrating Cleansing Oil Simple - Kind to Skin Moisturizing Facial Wash CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream OLAY - Regenerist Retinol 24 Max Fragrance-Free Night Hydrating Moisturizer

I always go back to this cleansing oil!
Tatcha’s cleansing oil has been a staple in my cabinet for over a year now! I fell in love while looking for something to replace the empty Simple - Hydrating Cleansing Oil and got hooked. At first touch I thought it was incredible, but I also thought it was just another oil cleanser. Since then, I’ve tried a few other brands and this one is still one of the best. For me it’s the smell 😩 the slip that keeps on slipping during a facial massage 💆🏽‍♀️ how it gets nice and milky when emulsified with water...I could go on. I wanted something I could still double cleanse with that both rinsed and wiped off well without leaving a thick I’m-in-7th-grade-using-olive-oil-as-a-daily-moisturizer look (been there, done that too many times). It’s definitely in the higher price range, but if you’re looking to splurge on a treat, this is totally worth it. PLUS every purchase from Tatcha helps out Room to Read, an organization supporting gender equality in education.

HELP!!
HELP!!
My current skincare routine consists of CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser, then up&up - Deep Cleaning Pore Treatment at night, then Bio-Oil - Multiuse Skincare Oil, and finishing it off at CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin. I want to add The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%into my routine but I'm not sure where it fits in or how to apply the product. I am new to serums like that. Any recommendations? All and any input is wanted!! Thank you.

Needing a cheap but effective cleanser? ✨✨
Needing a cheap but effective cleanser? ✨✨
Okay, so i have spent years upon years trying to find the best combination of skin care that reduces my oily skin and calms acne. I spent literally hundreds of dollars and went through dozens of products with truly nothing giving me the results i wanted. everything from drugstore to high end and i had the same results. I decided to strip it right back to a basic, fragrance free, cult cleanser. for such a well priced cleanser i didn’t expect much to be honest but wow in combination with the daily lotion and niacinamide (the ordinary) i am blown away by such a cost effective and simple routine. my acne is by no means completely gone (hence the 4 stars at the moment) but i honestly feel this is such a staple product that anyone with oily skin should try The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin

• I have been following this skincare routine for roughly a month or so.. I have Normal/Combo skin, and so far, I haven’t been seeing many noticeable changes on my skin. I struggle with small white bumps on my face, uneven skin tone, as well as hyperpigmentation. I did lots of research about skincare prior to purchasing these products, and I was recommended these products based on my skin type + struggles. • step 1.GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Mattifying I use this product every night to take off makeup and/or sunscreen. The bottle says to use a cotton pad, but I use my hands because I am trying to be more environmentally conscious. • step 2CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin I heard good things about this cleanser from the Youtuber Skincare By Hyram. I also heard it worked excellently for other people, so I gave it a try. It’s been working pretty well for me so far. I cleanse every morning + night. • step 3 The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA I struggle with dark spots (hyperpigmentation.) I heard this product is supposed to help brighten + fade dark spots, so I ordered it. I’ve been using it for roughly a month now, and I’m still not seeing results. I’m not gonna give up on the product, though. I use this every morning + night. • step 4The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Okay, I’m just gonna come clean and say that the only reason I bought this product is because Skincare By Hyram recommended it. But I ended up finding out it works well with The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA. I use this product every night. • step 5CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin I heard this product was good, and everyone needs a good moisturizer in their life! I have nothing bad to say about it, its lightweight, and a go-to for me! I use this product every morning + night. • step 6Neutrogena - UltraSheer Face Sunscreen SPF 60I’ve heard good & bad things about this sunscreen. But so far, I dislike it. It feels heavy on my skin and it leaves a HUGE white-cast. It also doesn’t even dry on my skin. I kinda feel like its contributing to my acne because its so thick. I use this product every single morning. • Please criticize my routine, or tell me why it isn’t working all that well on my skin. Also, if you have any product recommendations for me, please, do tell!

step 1. CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin Best face wash for dry/eczema prone skin, recommended to me by very single doctor, dermatologist and skincare specialist step 2. The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA is formulated to help with hyperpigmentation (which i have loads of due to my pesky skin picking habit). isn’t abrasive or burning towards the skin. step 3. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% has helped a lot with my acne scares, but hasn’t really helped with my large pores. step 4. CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin HOLY GRAIL FOR DRY SKIN. really lightweight and absorbing makes my skin soft and has helped my dry skin. step 5. Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 100 this is a pretty basic sunscreen i haven’t been going out in the sun too much so i don’t know if it’s working but it has lightened some of my acne scares/prevented them. i’m looking for batter one but this is the only one i have extras: The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution has legit made it so my skin doesn’t get massive pimples or breakouts anymore. burns the first time but it’s nothing i couldn’t handle and i have pretty sensitive skin. sometimes i use this as a spot treatment for 10 min. DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil i use this when my skin feel really dry and it always softens the texture of my face. can be used for double cleansing or oil cleansing which really gets rid of sebum in the pores
