Hormonal/Cystic Acne approved - They WORK
Beautycation_by_shruti
If you know me, you know The Ordinary is my first favorite brand and Sunday Riley is always competing hard with it to be on my Faves list. I am obsessed with these picks from them.
I have my reasons to love this brand these products. Being Acne prone and dealing with a lot of skin texture, dullness and hyperpigmentation I always am looking for products that 'work'! No BS simply work, and these products work for me.
I have seen dramatic changes in my skin when I use these. I'm going to order these from the most effective and my favorites to the least! Sunday Riley was one brand which was hell expensive for me but on the other side they worked really well. I don't purchase them often as I purchase TO, but whenever I can I don't rethink.
If you want products that work these are the ones:
1. A+ Retinoid SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum
Gel based moisturizers
Non comedogenic face creams
Clogged pores treatments
Toners for acne
Fine lines and wrinkles treatments

night night routine
My night time skin care roitine is a ritual. It's my "It's time to decompress, remove the day and transition to a relaxing evening" time. I start by using my micellar water and baby washcloth and remove me eye and facial make. Then, I wash my face with my Cetaphil face wash. After patting my face dry, I pat on some Revolution Bakuchiol Serum. Then I move on to the Revolution Hyaluronic Acid. After that, I get a drop of Revolution Targeted Under Eye Serum with Caffeine and Hyaluronic Acid and tap it under my eyes. Then I use Revolution Collagen Skin Firming Solution on my face. After that it's Revolution Niacinamide Blemish Refining and Moisturizing Serum. Then, I moisturize some more with CeraVe PM Ultra Moisturizing Lotion and finish off with a sample of Sunday Riley High Dose Rentinoid Serum. After that, I am finally ready to lay down for the evening and go to bed.
Final thought, you probably don't need a complicated skin routine at night. and certainly, have a less complicated one on standby for those nights when you just can barely put one foot in front of the other.
As my mom used to say....night, night, don't let the bed bugs bite.
GARNIER - Micellar Water Facial Cleanser Sensitive Skin I love, love, love this stuff! it's gentle on my skin. It takes off the toughest mascara without irritating my eyes. I use it as a pre cleanser before washing my face.
Cetaphil - Daily Facial Cleanser While I use this every night, I am only using it until I finish the bottle. I am not crazy about the scent and there is a slight sting on my cheeks when I first lather the product on my skin and I am not fond of that feeling.
REVOLUTION - 2% Hyaluronic Acid Serum REVOLUTION - Targeted Under Eye Serum 5% Caffeine
REVOLUTION - 15% Niacinamide Serum REVOLUTION - Skin Firming Solution Stabilised Active Collagen Serum I've enjoyed all of the products I purchased from Revolution, they will all be empties. I am going to try The Ordinary next but the price comparison is about the same. DIFFERIN - Dark Spot Correcting Serum I haven't noticed a bit of difference since using this. how long do you have to you this before you notice your spots lightening?SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum

šŖš”šš š¢š¬ šš”š¢š¬ š©š«šØšš®šš? This is
SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum! SRās site describes it as an āadvanced-strength retinoid serum that delivers a 6.5% solution of stabilized retinoid blends and botanical, retinol-alternative extracts into the skin.ā See my IG post for the breakdown of the retinoid blend & other key ingredients! ā£ā£
ā£ā£
šš² šš”šØš®š š”šš¬: I know youāre all probably waiting for me to say I donāt love a SR product, but Iām sorry...š š§š³š¦š¢š¬šŖšÆšØ šš°š·š¦ šµš©šŖš“ š°šÆš¦ šµš°š° š„° after using a Pixi retinol serum for a couple months and then switching to Luna (see my review in an earlier post!), I finally added this higher percentage of retinol to my routine in September. I think it was a HUGE contributor to the amazing results I saw in just over 2 weeks after switching to an almost entirely SR routine (scroll way back in my feed to see my before/after for that!). Every morning after I use this I wake up to super soft, even-toned skin. ā£ā£
ā£ā£
If youāre new to a higher dose retinoid, try layering a hydrating oil first for a more gentle experience with A+. Start with two nights on, two nights off and build from there. Once your skin has adjusted, you can use A+ nightly (if desired), and I like to layer Luna on top for a bonus dose of retinol goodness! This serum, like all SR products, plays very well with others in the line. I layer A+, Luna, and Good Genes on many nights and have never had an issue! Of course, I have very tolerant skin so make sure you do what works best for šŗš°š¶!ā£ā£
ā£ā£ā£
ššš„š®š: The price is steep with this one, as it is with a lot of high-quality products. Itās $85/1oz or $122/1.7oz. I just finished up my 1oz bottle that I bought in mid-September, so it lasted me about 3.5 months with usage of 4-5 nights/week. Iāve cut back on that recently as Iām trying to rotate more products into my evening routine (like Vitamin C), and I used a solid 1.5-2 pumps with every use. If you just use 1 pump and less frequently, itāll last you way longer! I just received my 1.7oz (just in time!) which I bought in the Power of Three kit ā great savings that way on 3 serums I use all the time! ā£ā£

Sunday Riley Empties!
I freaking love this brand! Their marketing, packaging, and products continue to impress me as I try new things.
SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil probably the least favorite product Iāve tried from Sunday Riley. I mainly just didnāt feel like it sunk into my skin, and left me oily, which is something I definitely donāt want in the mornings when I am applying vitamin C.
SUNDAY RILEY - Ceramic Slip Cleanser just meh. Donāt love the consistency or color (like a murky gray color??) it was fine as a cleanser, but I didnāt find anything special about it.
SUNDAY RILEY - Ice Ceramide Moisturizing Cream this stuff is good, just a little heavier than I tend to use. I know ceramides are great for retaining skin moisture, but since my skin leans oily, it just was a bit much for me! I like the consistency and clean feel though!
SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream I love this stuff!!! Favorite vitamin c product Iāve tried so far. It works great as a morning moisturizer in the morning, and sinks in to my skin great as a base for my makeup!! Big fan.
SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes All in One Lactic Acid Treatment thereās nothing I can say about this stuff that hasnāt already been said by everyone else. I truly saw a difference in pores, brightness, and just general appearance of my skin quickly after beginning to use this. Super happy with it.
SUNDAY RILEY - Luna Sleeping Night Oil amazing. I love this as an intro to retinol, and it has had no negative effects since itās so gentle! I love the smell, the blue color, and will continue to buy this as long as they will sell it to me!

Addition to Winter āļø Skincare Routine š
Hey there! I hope youāre having a great week so far. I know that the last few weeks have been crazy in the US šŗšø at least due to the election and everything.
I received the Sunday Riley CEO Vitamin C Hydration Cream on my Boxy premium back in August.
SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream
It was still quite hot in California around that time with multiple heat waves and decided to take this off my routine. It made my face super oily despite having dry skin. However, it started getting cold around mid-October and thatās when I added this to my morning routine. This has a high potency of Vitamin C and claims to fight visible signs of aging while helping with dryness.
This is perfect for the colder months because it is thick and fixes my dry patches quickly. It also feels like butter on skin. My skin feels quickly moisturized and prepped in the morning. I also LOVE how this smells. It smells like freshly squeezed orange juice. I use this right after I apply my Vitamin C serum from Drunk Elephant. I donāt use this at night because I want to avoid mixing vitamin C with AHA/BHA and glycolic acid. I use those ingredients on my night time routines
So far this made a huge difference on my skin. Not only it helps with moisturizing, but it makes my skin glow for hours.
This item is a bit pricey however. It retails for $65 USD. Though pricey, I will definitely re-purchase.
What additions have you made to your winter skincare routine?
Xoxo,
Francesca š

Reflecting on 2020
2020 is coming to a close. I think we are all very hopeful for a better 2021. 2020 has been challenging year. But, as hard as it has been for me having a newborn & a toddler at home during two lockdowns now (Ontario is officially locked down today again), it has also given me LOTS of time with my kids, a HUGE appreciation for stay at home moms, and appreciating all the things I took for granted like seeing friends & family at Christmas.
Hereās my @cherie2020 Top 5
1. Product
My favourite has been SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes Glycolic Acid Treatment
I received it in a sample bag from Sephora and was blown away by the results. Itās a 7 % lactic acid treatment in a milky serum consistency. It also contains licorice root extract.
You really can notice it smooth & brighten your skin in 3 minutes! I havenāt bought the full size yet. It retails for $112 CAD for 1oz. But when my sample runs out I think this one is worth the money! (The sample is .25oz and Iāve been using it once a week for about 6 weeks and I might have one use left)
2. Trend
Does Vitamin C count as a trend? I only started my skincare journey 6 months ago. I didnāt really know anything about skincare ingredients. Now Iāve bought two Vitamin C serums, an eye cream, and face wash!
Vitamin C is powerful antioxidant that helps give you brighter, tighter, and overall more radiant looking skin. I definitely have noticed a difference since starting use to Vitamin C serums!
VERSED - STROKE OF BRILLIANCE Brightening Serum
SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum(havenāt started using)
OLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye CrĆØme
OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Juice Daily Cleanser
3. Best Look
My best book would have to be my everyday 5 minute natural make-up look (see earlier post). Before I started my skincare journey in the summer, I was maybe washing my face in the shower and putting on lotion. Definitely no make-up. I looked tired and dull.
Now I take care of my skin, so even without make-up I look brighter and I also take 5 minutes to put on a little make-up, even if it is just to walk the kids to the park and it makes me feel a lot better about my appearance.
CLINIQUE - Moisture Surge Sheertint Hydrator Broad Spectrum SPF 25
SEPHORA COLLECTION - Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer
Milk MAKEUP - Lip + Cheek
CLINIQUE - High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara
CLINIQUE - Just Browsing Brush-on Styling Mousse
4. Favourite Creator on Cherie
I might be biased because I won a great giveaway from her, but I really love following @JadesJourney
I really enjoy her intersection between skincare and wellness. Check her out!
5. Something I learned
The biggest thing I learned this year is not only can I find the time everyday to take care of my skin but that I look forward to it!
Happy New Year!

Dirty Dozen Chemicals in my Skincare
I want to move towards a clean skincare routine. My current products were not purchased with clean skincare in mind, but I want to know how many of the Dirty Dozen chemicals are in my skincare. See my previous clean skincare posts for more details.
Dirty Dozen Chemicals to Avoid:
1. Coal Tar Dyes
2. DEA / MEA / TEA
3. Phthalates / Parfum / fragrence
4. Formaldehyde releasing perservatives
5. Parabens
6. PEG compounds
7. Petrolatum
8. Siloxanes
9. Sulfates
10. Triclosan
11. Talc
12. Hydroquinone
A quick summary, almost every product contains PEGs! PEGs (polyethylene glycols) are petroleum-based compounds that are widely used in cosmetics as thickeners, solvents, softeners, and moisture-carriers. Depending on manufacturing processes, PEGs may be contaminated with measurable amounts of ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, known human carcinogens. 1,4-dioxane can be removed from cosmetics during the manufacturing process by vacuum stripping, but there is no easy way for consumers to know whether products containing PEGs have undergone this process.

Help sort out my routine for late 30s skin
Hi all! Welcome to skin in your late 30s. I am 37 and am at that wonderful crossroads between younger and older skin, meaning that I still get monthly hormonal jawline acne, have an oily t-zone... yet also the beginnings of wrinkles, plus large pores and dark spots from acne scars and sun damage.
I have a number of products that I have been using but itās been a little random as to when I use them. I also just got some direct acids and Iām looking for direction on when to use them in my routine.
Hereās what I have:
Cleansers
innisfree - Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam
DERMAā¢E - Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser
Kiehl's - Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil
AM toner
SUNDAY RILEY - Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner
PM toner
The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
Eye cream
BURTāS BEES - Renewal Smoothing Eye Cream
Looking for recs!

The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA
THE inkey LIST - Q10 Antioxidant Serum
SUNDAY RILEY - Luna Sleeping Night Oil

The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
Several mud based masks- Mudmasky, Generation Clay

THE inkey LIST - Multi-Biotic
The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

And since I know pores are an issue for me I also have other Inkey products I havenāt tried yet in the THE inkey LIST - The Pore Wonders Set
I really like a lot of these products but I donāt feel I am putting them on in the right order. I also think I may be missing something to really help with my dark spots? Any advice? Thanks!!

Treatments from My skin cabinet
Here Iām showcasing some of my time and money worthy Treatments!
I believe these are the tried and true ones for me with few daily staples! For ease of understanding and review Iām going to use the āTagsā like āDaily staplesā and Iāll give stars āļø.
I really think if youāre Hormonal Acne girl like me, this could be a helpful snap of my skin cabinet ā¤ļø
So, with first tag -
š¤©1. āDaily Staplesā - SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream This is rich and thick in consistency so if youāre oily try using it in Winters. I use it in morning routine. I think itās effective and will give you more brightened skin.
LeeGeeHaam Vita Propolis Ampoule This is new skincare find for me, AMAZING! In love this babyš Totally worth it! It gives glowing, brighter and tighter skin in consistent use!
ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm This balm is Amazing! Works the best in removing every bit of makeup. The best part is it emulsified and washes well. Worth the hype!
The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The best HA that worked for me. It didnāt irritate my Sensitive skin. Itās sticky so is the best under makeup. Love it š
š¤©2. āNot so favorite Treatmentsā -
SUNDAY RILEY - Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner Didnāt give any visible results. The smell is a bit too off for me. Positive is itās hydrating.
GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Face Mask This held high hopes from me but unfortunately I didnāt find it Stunning. I believe there are other Retinols that work the best. This one is too occlusive for me, also it is a bit sticky and heavy unlike the Watermelon sleeping mask. The results werenāt amazing. Hence three stars from me.
FIRST AID BEAUTY - Facial Radiance Pads This is okay in my opinion. Nothing too great, also not bad. I didnāt see any results similar to The ordinary glycolic acid toner. So, Iām not very impressed with it but I believe for someone who has very sensitive skin, this could be a decent treatment.
š¤©3. āFavorite Treatmentsā -
SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes All in One Lactic Acid Treatment This is AMAZING AMAZING! you will see the results in just one use. Gives glowing, brighter skin next morning. It helps with raised bumps and texture. Love it!
TULA SKINCARE - Pro-Glycolic 10% Resurfacing Toner It works just as amazing as Good genes. Worth the money. Itās more like toner so itās easy to use and also less irritating.
THE inkey LIST - Retinol Serum one of my favorite Retinols. Works great, formula is amazing. Not too thin but absorbs quickly. I feel the only downside is the size, itās just very little for what we get from other brands.
ELEMIS - Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads Works very well. Gives results in one use. Easy to use because of individual pads. Doesnāt feel heavy.
Kate Somerville - Kx Active Concentrates Bio-Mimicking Peptides Serum

Skin Update āØāØ
Okay this is a totally non filtered sun photo of my skin.
Still working on minor texture this is due to my new skin routine (I posted about my morning and will post my night).
I try and show my skin with new routines and products I use because I get so many !
The number one thing I will say is be consistent!
I saw a post from @MelaninSkinCareAddict(great post you should go check it out) and I loved it and it inspired me to show results from some advice she saw.
My last skin update was 12/22 which I showed a unfiltered close up of my skin and the breakout I had endure out of the states!
I will say for texture, hyperpigmentation, and acne you need:
ļæ¼effective vitamin C serum- should have vitamin E (tocopherol), hyaluronic acid, and Ferulic acid
insta natural - Vitamin C Serum
Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serum
ļæ¼retinol-
DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel is my first go to, but now I use The Ordinary - Retinol 0.5% in Squalane
GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Face Mask (I use this on nights I donāt use The Ordinary retinol oil .. 2xs a week)
ļæ¼cleanser made for you skin: should be tailored and effective my current faves:
Murad - AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser (2x week)
COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (only when I oil cleanse) (3xs a weeks when I wear my night mask)
PEACH & LILY - Power Calm Hydrating Gel Cleanser (mostly for nights)
ļæ¼toner: a great toner will be your friend! This is important for removing dirts and oils. If you wear makeup this is a necessity.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner
Murad - Clarifying Toner
innisfree - Jeju Lava Seawater Lotion
ļæ¼sunscreen: at least spf30 TULA SKINCARE - Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30
ELEMIS - Daily Defence Shield SPF30
ļæ¼moisturizer: a great moisturizer is your friend! So my faves
fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer at night
SUNDAY RILEY - Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream during the day for hyperpigmentation before sunscreen
āØāØāØāØ
Other things I love that have helped
COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence I use this day and night after my toner. If you neee hydration this is my current go to!
SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Acne Treatment Face Oil I now use this on days I donāt use my vitamin C in the morning.
PEACH & LILY - Glass Skin Refining Serum This has replaced my niacinamide from The Ordinary. If you want glass skin use this consistently!
CLARISMA - Namaste Glow Energizing Face Mask I use this as my daily face mask once a week.
I will be posting my detailed night routine soon as Iām redoing my entire on IG š„°š„°

Sunday Rileyās Tidal is a Hot Mess
Where to start... I wanted to love this. I really, really did. But boy, this disappointed me!
First, the good news: thankfully, I bought this at a discount through Ipsy, rather than at full price. And... the packaging is pretty.
The rest, ladies, is pretty bad.
This water cream is supposed to have a brightening effect. I canāt speak to whether it is effective at brightening or addressing discoloration, because I just could not wear this consistently. I tried. Really, I did.
ļæ¼It has an odd scent that I canāt quite define. Whatever it is... it smells funky. If the product were effective, I could overlook this.
ļæ¼This cream pills like crazy! Few products have ever caused such pilling for me. Like, SO bad.
ļæ¼I have fairly sensitive skin (ever since I started using retinoids). But I can tolerate most products. There is something in this that caused irritation for me. Itās possible that this may not be the case for you, but for those with sensitive skin, be careful! Instead of a nice, refreshing āwaterā feel, my skin became red, hot, and irritated for the first few seconds. This dissipated quickly.
ļæ¼It doesnāt really absorb. It feels greasy, rather than lightweight and hydrating. Yuck!
ļæ¼I even tried to use this on my body (since my facial skin was sensitive), and I couldnāt stand it. It pilled, and it never absorbed.
ļæ¼Iām not crazy about jars for sanitary reasons, so even though the packaging is beautiful, itās not functional.
So, while this cream does pack some decent ingredients, the formulation does not work for me at all... and it has irritating fragrances (yet smells funky!).
Save your money and ditch this. SUNDAY RILEY - Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream
(Check out LANEIGE - Water Sleeping Mask instead. Review coming soon)
Has anyone tried Peter Thomas Rothās cloud cream? That is next on my list š

šBEST HYALURONIC ACID SERUM EVER! š§”š
Myth: Only dry skin can be dehydrated.
Wrong! Normal and oily skin can be dehydrated as well. Dehydrated skin is skin that lacks water content, while dryness refers to skin that lacks oil . In fact, oily skin tends to overproduce oil to compensate for the lack of water. This can lead to breakouts and enlarged pores. Other signs of dehydration include tightness, fine lines, dullness, and increased sensitivity.
šLetās Talk Hyaluronic Acidš§”š
Hyalruonic Acid is one of the best answers for dehydrated skin. Itās a humectant, an ingredient that binds to moisture. It has the ability to hold 1,000 times its weight in water! This results in hydrated, soft, plump skin! HADALABO - Gokujyun Premium Lotion contains FIVE types of hyaluronic acid as well as sacaran algae known for its moisturizing properties. Hello hydration! š¦
šReviewš§”š
(Swipe to see texture pic) This product is a serum with a thick milky consistency. Itās formulated WITHOUT fragrance, dye, or mineral oil.Since this product is a humectant, itās best to use this product when the skin is wet. I currently use this at night. After I cleanse my skin, I immediately put this on and tap it into my skin. After it fully absorbs, I follow up with my moisturizer.
This J-product product beats all of the overpriced HA serums in Sephora! Not only does it keep my skin hydrated, soft and plump for hours, but within 10-15 minutes of usage, the appearance of my enlarged pores are gone! This will also be a lifesaver when my skin becomes dry and sensitive during winter. This is a new constant in my routine. I got mine in an Asian beauty store but you can find the product on Amazon and YesStyle! Itās only 15 dollars!!
Canāt wait to try more products from this brand! Happy Hydration! š¦

Brightening Essences For Different Skin Types
Combination skin people, can I get an āayeā?
If youāve got combination skin, youāll know that selecting which products to use is not so straightforward.
Here are three essences that Iāve used in the past (and in the present) that are great for different skin types.
With FIKĆ Brightening Essence
With FIKĆ was given to me by my boyfriend after his Korea trip. It was his first time seeing the brand and he thought this essence was pretty unique since it comes with a pump bottle. The texture is also more akin to a lotion or cream, unlike most regular essences. I actually like using this product because it really works on the brightening aspect. Itās also light enough that I actually use this in the morning. Plus, the price is very affordable, costing less than $10 for 50ml worth of product.
NACIFIC - Phyto Niacin Whitening Essence
Nacificās Phyto Niacin Essence is my current PM routine essence. It contains Niacinamide, which, if youāve already read some of my other reviews, is a favorite ingredient of mine. Niacinamide works so well on my skin that I still get amazed every day. The consistency of this product is a bit thicker than water, but itās still pretty watery. I love how smooth it makes my skin. When combined with other niacinamide products, I think it really does a great job of lightening my dark spots and acne scars.
MISSHA - Time Revolution First Treatment Essence Intensive Moist
Iāve already finished two bottles of this product and itās one of my favorite products ever. And I mean ever. Itās totally on my HG list. Itās hydrating but not heavy at all, so you can easily use this in the morning. At $50 per 150ml bottle, itās a great dupe for a much more expensive essence, the SK-II Essence, which retails for around $100. The only downside to this essence? The glass packaging. It looks nice, yes, but itās extremely fragile. I dropped my newly-bought third bottle from my dresser one morning and it shattered into a million pieces. Itās the first time that ever happened to me so yes, ya gurl kinda cried a bit. Thatās also why I havenāt bought another one yet. Traumatizing, really.
All these products are pretty good, especially if you just want to hydrate and brighten your skin. WithFIKĆ works great on dry skin, Nacific works well for dry and normal skin, while Missha works perfectly for those with normal and oily skin.

my night time skin heroines
Thank you to these quarantimes for giving me the opportunity to focus more on my skincare and really learn what my skin needs.
Coronavirus really brought acne and other blemishes on my skin so I decided that quarantimes was the best time to experiment and figure out what works for my skin!
I started using THE inkey LIST - Alpha Arbutin and THE inkey LIST - Tranexamic Acid Hyperpigmentation Treatment on my skin to help with a few acne scars and dark spots. I added on the OLE HENRIKSEN - Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner after a week to really hone in on those areas. I decided to try the FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serumafter reading several recommendations from people. I now switch between that and the BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serumand found that both have really helped my skin clear up. These products along with my PETER THOMAS ROTH - Water Drench Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer and innisfree - Tangerine Brightening & Pore-Refining Sleeping Mask(used once a week) are the winning combo for my skin.
Iām also sensitive to scents and have found that none of these products have scents that irritate me or my skin. Another win!
Ya girlās skin is happy and calm and glowing thanks to these heroines!

Happy #selfcaresunday š
Itās a sad day because #1 itās my last Sunday that I wonāt be spending studying (classes start Wednesday) & #2 itās one of my last few posts with my pretty little starfish as Fall slowly starts making its way towards us!
Today I am bringing you a rapid review of 2 serums from a brand that has a special place in my heart @earthharbor !
Now I know these bottles are full but I started my collection with their 2 gift sets that they offer. This is how I was able to find out which products worked for me and which I wanted to purchase full size.
šØ Review Time šØ
š Marina: This brightening serum targets hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, redness & blotchy skin. It includes so many amazing ingredients such as squalene to lock in moisture, Japanese green tea oil to prevent the appearance of hyperpigmentation, and spirulina which prevents the skin from environmental toxins and fights bacteria that may lead to breakouts (to name a few). I truly saw a difference in my hyperpigmentation and dark spots with this product. It does have a scent which didnāt bother me but is good to know. Soaks into my skin without feeling like thereās left over oils sitting on top of it.
EARTH HARBOR - MARINA Biome Brightening Ampoule
š Calypso: this rejuvenating moisture elixir is a go to and I will definitely be using it by the bottom this fall/winter. It includes ingredients such as sea berry oil, chia seed oil that helps hydrate and soothe the skin, as well as daikon seed extract that helps tighten and lifting your skin giving it a more youthful appearance. I like to mix this with my moisturizer or even some masks to add even more moisturizing benefits to my skin!
EARTH HARBOR - CALYPSO Rejuvenating Moisture Elixir
Have you tried any @earthharbor products? Which has been your favorite?!
EARTH HARBOR-CALYPSO Rejuvenating Moisture Elixir
Biossance squalane rose oil: worth it?
Today I wanted to compare Biossanceās cult favorite squalane oil with a less expensive and lesser know squalane, the one by Hush and Dotti. The Hush and Dotti is approximately 1/3 of the price of the Biossance:
Hush and Dotti: $52 for 2oz, or $26/oz
Biossance: $72 for 1oz, or $72/oz
Both of these oils have squalane as the main ingredient, though the #Hush and Dotti - Hydrating Serum[products]#[FiveStars] contains many more oils further down in the ingredient list: camellia, rosehip, rice bran, grape seed, argan, sunflower, carrot seed, pomegranate, perilla seed, black cumin, meadow foam, arnica, lavender, sweet orange, lemon, bergamot, sea buckthorn, and angelica root. Thatās a LOT of oils, and while some people are very sensitive to essential oils, they come further down the ingredient list than the carrier oils at the top. Still, I would avoid this one if essential oils donāt work well for your skin.
I really like this oil. The fragrance is pretty strong, but if you like earthy, herbal smells, this may be for you. In terms of how it feels on my face, it does feel a *bit* heavier than the Biossance (due to the fact that itās not all squalane), but not by that much. I find that it sinks into my skin well. I typically use it as a nighttime oil, mixing it into my moisturizer, but I will say that because the smell is strong it doesnāt play well with all productsāfor example, one tried I tried mixing it with Glow Recipeās watermelon pink juice and the scent profiles clashed so much that I wanted to just... wash my face. Regardless, this oil definitely does moisturize my skin, and itās never made me irritated or given me a breakout.
By contrast, BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil has just squalane, rose, vitamin c, and a few preservatives. Biossanceās squalane is made from sugarcane, if that means anything to you, and the rose oil and vitamin c are supposed to help fade dark spots and brighten overall skin tone. Iāll be completely honest, I *love* using this oil, but I donāt think itās exactly a powerhouse when it comes to fading dark spots. Iād like to know the actual percentage of vitamin c in this, but Biossance doesnāt specify. Regardless, I use a few drops of this every single morning, and because I only need a few drops, the 1oz bottle lasts forever and ever (as it should, for $72). Itās a very light oil that sinks in and never leaves me feeling greasy.
In the end, I really like both of these oils. If youāre down for a squalane blend with some other botanicals thrown in, I recommend checking out Hush + Dotti! If youāre hardcore dedicated to squalane with just vitamin c and roseāand you can handle the sticker priceāthe Biossance is a great oil, too. Both are moisturizing without being irritating, in my experience.

Please Donāt Mix These!
Acids (actives) and retinol are awesome skincare ingredients. They can do a lot for your skin, such as increasing cell turnover, lightening acne and dark spots, smoothing texture, help acne, and exfoliating dead skin. However, itās important to know what products you can mix and what you canāt.
For example, you donāt want to include retinol in your skincare routine at the same time as an exfoliating toner, overnight exfoliating treatment, or acid spit treatment. What Iām saying is you donāt want to wash your face, tone with the YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner , apply a retinol serum such as THE inkey LIST - Retinol Serum , and then use GOOD MOLECULES - Overnight Exfoliating Treatment or DERMAā¢E - Acne Blemish Control Treatment Serum . Not a good idea!!
Why? Using these products together can cause over-exfoliation. Over-exfoliation goes beyond the typical bit of peeling and sensitivity that introducing retinol or acids can sometimes cause. You could end up with significant peeling, irritated spots, chemical burns, or any other adverse reaction specific to your body. I have over-exfoliated before by using the YTTP toner multiple days in a row. I had irritated, itchy, dry skin and little bumps formed on my forehead. Oops! It happens. But it could have been prevented. Thatās why itās important to read up on what skincare ingredients should and shouldnāt be mixed.
Still want to use retinol and acids? Of course you can, but donāt use them at the same time! Apply your exfoliating toner (maybe not as strong as the YTTP one, though) in the AM and retinol or exfoliating serum in the PM. Or try applying 1 one day and another the next. Use your acne spot treatment alone. Most importantly, pay attention to your skin type and how it is reacting. If you have sensitive skin, you probably canāt exfoliate/use retinol even that frequently. I have dry skin, so I exfoliate and/or use retinol (never same day) 1-2x/week.
