Relief for my Itchy Scalp !!
I feel like Head and Shoulders have had bad reputation over the past decade without a valid enough reason for it. Most hairdressers I speak to always talk lowly of it, with their reason being that “it contains sulfates so it must be bad” and all those marketing myths. I personally am a big fan of Head and Shoulders. Despite having sulfates in, it’s never stripped my hair of the oils and left it feeling squeaky clean (which I hate). This is likely because it’s pH balanced and not on the more alkaline side but lathers enough to remove any oils from the hair leaving it clean! This shampoo has a thick texture and foams really easily making it easy to wash and rinse out. It also leaves your hair looking healthy, perfect for everyday use. I particularly like the menthol in this - if you’ve used a menthol shampoo before, you’ll know what I mean when I say it gives your scalp a tingly fresh sensation (almost the same feeling as the burst of freshness you get after you brush your teeth). If you have a dry flaky scalp like me, this shampoo is perfect for soothing your scalp and relieving some of the itchiness. It’s the one of the very few shampoos that’s not irritated my flaky and itchy scalp. I’ve suffered from a flaky scalp for as long as I can remember so Head and Shoulders is definitely one of those products which has been a staple in my life. What are some of your favourite shampoos if you have a dry and flaky scalp like me? Let me know in the comments below!
Rosy Blushing Cheeks with Glossier
I heard many great things about the Glossier products and wanted to try them out for myself (and I’m glad I did!). This Glossier Cloud Paint in Puff gives you the most radiant naturally flushed cheeks. I actually bought this blush cloud paint in the Covent Garden pop up store in London, but you can find this online via the Glossier website. It cost me less than £15 and would say I can see this lasting a long time so it’s worth the investment. It comes in a variety of different shades (6 in total!). I was trying to decide between this one and the Beam (a soft peach colour). Eventually, I went for the shade in Puff because the colour is a natural cool pink colour that makes you literally look like you’ve just blushed! If you have a somewhat olive skin tone like me, you’ll definitely suit this! The colour is super romantic and leaves your cheeks flushed with a healthy dewy glow. A little goes a long way - just one drop is enough to cover my entire cheeks! Some blush creams can double up as a lipstick, but I would say that this blush cream is only pigmented enough for the cheeks as opposed to the lips. I prefer blush creams to blush powders because it’s a lot less obvious! It’s super lightweight and glides on the skin really comfortably, perfect for those no-makeup makeup days! The Glossier product comes with a squeeze tube so is super easy and hygenic to apply. I add a dab onto my cheeks and blend it out with my fingers. It’s small and travel friendly! Just pop this into your bag and take on the go with you. Have you tried any Glossier products lately? What are some of your favourites?
Incredibly Silky Soft Hair (I’m obsessed!)
I love leave-in hair products. They’re easy to use - you just spray it in your hair, go about your day and forget all about it. I’m actually switching up between 3 different types of leave in treatments at the moment! This leave in conditioner by Schwarzkopf is absolutely wonderful. It was super affordable and leaves your hair feeling super soft to the touch with a lovely shine (and of course smells great). This is extremely useful for days where you don’t have enough time to condition your hair but still need something to tame your hair. The spray application is great because it’s so easy to apply. I apply this generously to the ends of my hair when I’m straight out of the shower and go in with a wide tooth comb just to ensure that it’s evenly distributed through my hair. You can either just blow dry as normal or let it air dry. It’s also amazing for detangling. Just spritz and them comb through the ends. One thing i’ve noticed is that you do need to be relatively generous with this product if you have thicker hair like me! This product is particularly great for people with dry damaged hair. My ends feel extremely healthy and shiny. The product itself is relatively thin in consistency too so it’s perfect for everyday use. I find that some leave in conditioners can feel a bit heavy and weigh on your hair – this one is lightweight and is perfect for people who want a bit more volume on the head. I’m always looking for new leave in products - what’s your favourite? I think out of all the ones I’ve tried so far, my favourite is still by far the John Freida Frizz Ease Serum (I’ve done a review on this in one of my other posts!)
Natural Makeup Look
I feel like the natural makeup look is controversial because most people would expect little to no makeup involved but I think most people would be surprised (we keep it real on here lol). Here are some tips to create a natural effortless makeup look 1. Use an eyebrow shadow instead of eyebrow gel Brows play a huge part because they frame your entire face. If you’re someone who feels brows aren’t that important, try glamming up your eyes without doing the brows and take a look. Notice how unbalanced and strange it looks? Use an eyebrow powder rather than an eyebrow gel for a softer look, and stick to a shade that matches your natural hair colour. Follow the natural arch of your eyebrow as closely as possible. 2. Apply a generous coat of mascara Mascara is one of those tools that is universal and looks good on everyone. Who doesn’t look good with long fluttery eyelashes? This is a no brainer! 3. Use transparent powder If you need something just to set your makeup, why not try a transparent powder? The one I use is the Stay Matte by Rimmel London in Transparent 001. It mattifies your face without making it look cakey! 4. Use a darker eyeshadow to make your eyes appear wider A darker eyeshadow can create some definition to your eyes by making your sockets appear deeper than they really are. This opens up the eyes and makes them appear wider. Make sure to use an eyeshadow that’s just one shade darker than your skin tone to make it look more natural.
Juicy Kissable Lips 👄💄
Want perfect kissable lips? The secret is having super hydrated lips, a strong pigment and the perfect shine. Prepare your lips by moisturising them with a luxurious lip mask to ensure they’re smooth and ready for lipstick application. You don’t want dry flaky lips – all the lipstick you apply later will go in between all the cracks and just look odd. The one i’m using here is the Berry Sleep Mask by Laneige (I’ve done a review on this in one of my other posts). I do prefer lip masks to a lip balm because I find them more effective at nourishing my lips. I apply this one before I sleep and wake up with the perfect hydration and moisture to my lips. I then follow up with the Loreal Color Riche Shine in Watermelon plump for the most gorgeous rosy red. This lip stick is moisturising, extremely pigmented and creates the most beautiful colour with a slight glimmery sheen to the lips. To create a more natural look, apply sparingly to the lips. What I tend to do is apply a layer to my bottom lip, and then purse my lips together so that the colour transfers to my top lip. Go in with a lip liner if you want a more polished look. I personally skip this because I like the slight blurred edges without it! This lipstick leaves behind the perfect amount of shine so you can skip lip gloss – I find lip gloss to be a bit sticky at times so this is the perfect alternative. This lipstick is a bit more on the creamy side, the downside being that it transfers more easily so needs reapplying throughout the day. If reapplying bothers you, I wouldn’t recommend this particularly but I personally don’t mind – the colour’s gorgeous! What are some of your favourite lipsticks for kissable smooth lips?
Favourite (affordable) Lippies this Month
I absolutely love lip products – lip sticks, lip balms, lip masks, you name it and I’ll have it. Today I’ll cover some of my favourites I’ve discovered this month. The best part is that these ones are all super affordable! The first lip product I’ll give props to is this moisture tint lip balm by Rire in the shade pink. This lip balm is great because it’s a two in one (shout out to us low maintenance girls!). It moisturises your lips whilst also giving you some colour making you look more awake and fresh. Second product I wanted to shout out is also another lip tint balm product. This one is by Macqueen called “Loving you Tint Glow” in the shade “Lovely Pink”. Many people say this product is a very close dupe to the Dior “Lip Glow” balm. The packaging for this is absolutely gorgeous and the tint leaves behind a long lasting stain. Third lip product I wanted to mention is the lip sleeping mask by Laneige in Berry. How stinkin cute is this mini version? It’s extremely hydrating and moisturising. Usually I apply this the night before so I wake up with super smooth and supple lips. If I don’t use this, I find I get chapped flaky dry lips really easily - especially during the drying cold winter months. Fourth and final favourite lip product of the month is this “watermelon plump” lipstick by Loreal in the colour riche shine range. This lipstick is a really lovely pinkish red with the most gorgeous shine finish. It’s not as long lasting, meaning you have to reapply throughout the day – but it has the most smooth application and feels really nice and light on the lips.
