Perfect for smokey eyes -Clarins mini eye palette
If there is one thing that I really find fascinating when it comes to makeup, this would probably be smokey eyes. I know that technically smokey eyes are a thing of the past now, but, if we’re honest, the latest eye makeup trends are just variations of the eye design I absolutely adore! As a result, I’m always looking for eye palettes that could help me achieve different kinds of smokey eyes! And this is how I came across this mini eye palette from Clarins! Believe it or not, it was in an airport and what got my attention in the first place was the design on the box. It looked so girly and nice, I had to give it a second look! Once I had a look at the shades, it was definitely love at first sight. One thing I usually avoid is getting chunky, big makeup palettes because they are difficult to carry around when I travel. And it’s not like I’m using all the shades anyway! The Clarins mini eye palette had exactly the shades I was looking for, so it was a perfect match. I remember I paid around $20 on the makeup palette, but I think it was great value for money. The shades are easy to apply with a sponge or and eye brush, they last really well on the eyelids and most importantly, they don’t cake. My face is rather oily and sweaty in summer, and I hate it when eye shades gather in the folds of the eyelids. But this never happens when I’m wearing the shades from the mini Clarins palette. I also tend to use the lighter shades more often than the darker ones, as I apply them for everyday, work makeup. The shades are buildable, so I use as little or as much as I want. Just a touch on the eyelid and in the corner of the eyes, and it lightens up my complexion!
Thick eyebrows to better contour my face
I’ve always loved a good, arched eyebrow. However, to get that perfect brow I’ve started plucking really early, like when I was 12 or 13. After saying this you might imagine I was some sort of Cara Delevingne. However, that was definitely not the case. I mean, if I’m being really honest, I was a bit on the opposite site of Cara 😊))) I have an oval face and in my teenage years I yearned for some steep arch, like an S-shaped eyebrow. And to achieve this I plucked and plucked but never really got anywhere with the shape of my dreams. As it often happens, I kinda went in the wrong direction and ended up a few years later with very weird looking eyebrows. The bottom half was almost invisible in both eyebrows, and one brow was actually much higher than the other. Not to mention that they were both very thin. This is when I let them grow. Like I stopped plucking altogether for about six months. Don’t ask me how I managed, I never ever wanna go there again! However, when I was done and I knew for sure that my eyebrows are not getting any hairier, I went to see a brow specialist. She told me without doubt that the steep arch of my dreams is not only out of reach for me at this moment, but also not the best shape to suit my face. She recommended round eyebrows and… microblading! Yes, apparently at this stage it was only a natural pigment that could save my eyebrows so I can achieve a good shape. So, this is what I’ve got. She had to draw the upper half on one of my brows and the bottom half on the other, the ends… anyway, it was lots of work! However, the round brows for my oval face seem to be a really good choice. I’m happy with them and sticking to this shape from now on!
Blue nails with a touch of white for a christening
A few months ago, I was invited to a christening. It was an all-white dress code event and it took me forever to find a dress that didn’t make me look like a ghost. (I tend to steer clear from all-white attire as my complexion just doesn’t cope with this very well. If you know Casper, the friendly ghost, well… he looks a lot like me). Anyway, eventually I found a dress (more on the beige side than white), some lovely sandals and it was time for hair and manicure. My hairstylist suggested a mixture of romantic curls with braids and I thought I should get something equally romantic/ delicate on my nails too. But I’m not big on romance on my nails. I mean, generally speaking, I’d wear red for events. Red is my color for romance, sexy, powerful, furious, happy, fun-loving, and pretty much anything else. But red just didn’t work out with my general outlook. And I didn’t want to scare the poor baby with long acrylic red nails at his christening! I just didn’t have any ideas (or experience) with this type of nail design, so I just told the nail technician what the occasion was and what was I wearing so she can think of something. I was prepared to walk out of the salon not feeling over the moon with my new nails, but, well, that was the dress code, not much I could have done about it. My nail technician took forever this time to do my nails, and to be honest I had no idea where she was going with the blue nails with a touch of white. I usually have my nails pointier, but she made them almost square this time. The manicure looked so elegant, I couldn’t help but like it a lot. It is still not really my type, but so perfect for the occasion!
Gel pink and white nails with a petal and a touch of glitter
Gel nails have always been my favorite, ever since I first discovered them. It’s so much room to play and come up with ideas and you can really create innovative styles and designs to wear every day. I prefer gel nails when I know I have access to my nail technician (so I’m not travelling). But if I know I’m going to be away for a while, I’d get acrylic nails. I just found they last longer and are somehow more sturdy. Maybe it’s just my impression or it just happens to me, I don’t know. Before my manicure appointment I had my mind set on some simple red design, but it happened to meet my sister for a coffee and she had this glamourous nail design with flowers in different colors, it looked so good. So, it made me reconsider my choice… I mean I’m not one to get extremely long nails with flowers in all colors and rhinestones and stuff, but at least a petal would be nice, right? HAHAHAHA I’m so easily distracted from my purpose when it comes to nails! My sister always makes fun of me. And even if we have completely different tastes, somehow, I get some inspiration from her from time to time! I asked my nails girl for something flowery, but not too flowery and I got this. A very simple pink design with like a part of a petal in white. The glitter made everything come together beautifully, in my opinion. I mean, it didn’t look anything like my sister had, but in my head, it matched perfectly! I like that my nail technician does all the painting by hand with a brush, I don’t like stamps and other things like this. It makes me appreciate more her work. And it looks much more delicate and sophisticated. And I think that this pink and white nail design with gel, oval shaped nails is suitable for special events too, maybe even weddings!
White nails with a touch of black
You know those days when you don’t feel overly adventurous, but still you’d like to wear something special? This is how I got my white nails with a black stripe! I wasn’t feeling in the mood for any of my usual quirky designs, the nails appointment was too early for my taste (I mean who goes to get the nails done on a Saturday at 9 am???? It should be illegal to make appointments so early over the weekend). But my nail technician was going on a holiday and it was my only chance to freshen up my manicure for a while. When I got to my appointment, I was half asleep, so everything happened like in a dream. I had some business meetings planned in the next couple of weeks, so I knew I couldn’t get anything too crazy. More than this, the nail girl was going away for quite some time, so there was no opportunity to change the nails in case I change my mind. Did I tell you once I had parrots designs on my nails? Oh, yeah, things can get pretty wild when it comes to my nails! I was so confused and sleepy and didn’t know what to ask for, so I just told her to do something elegant with a touch of me. I mean, she knows me long enough. By now she should be able to give me a touch of me without too much indications! So, I started watching Netflix on my phone to preserve my semi-conscious state and I let her do her thing. I just couldn’t sustain a conversation so early in the morning. She gave me an oval shape, something I absolutely adore and find it very difficult to change and a white color. Well, nothing spectacular, but then again… When I was all done, and I took a good look at my new white acrylic nails I was just so happy! My nail girl knows me well indeed. They were so simple, so standing out from the crowds big time. Big, big love!
NAVY BLUE AND RED = CUTEST NAIL EVER
I have two girlfriends that I haven’t seen in a while (feels like years, so it’s probably at least six months!). Anyway, over the last few weeks we keep talking on the phone planning a girls’ getaway to our favorite lodge in the mountains. Initially, I thought it’s just plans for whenever, but it turned out to be sooner rather than later. So, preparation time!!!!!! I did my hair and I wanted something special for my nails. Something that says young and restless, but still she put a lot of effort into it! Don’t know, but it felt right! I wanted to impress the girls and also to look my best! So, when I got to the nail technician, I told her what the occasion was and asked her to do whatever she thinks is appropriate. It was the first time I let her run wild on my nails, but I was just so excited and didn’t know what nail design to choose myself. As usually, I got gel nails with an oval shape. But when it came to the colors and designs, I honestly didn’t see that coming. At some point I wanted to tell her to stop, and let’s start over, but this time I tell you what to do, but I was just too embarrassed to do this. Omg, I was mortified. The designs on the nails she painted with a paint brush, so no stamps or anything and it was some work involved. And all this time I was thinking whether I can go home and apply a few layers of regular nail polish to cover her work 😊))) I left the nail salon less excited then I was at my arrival, trying to think whether I love them or hate them. But I got other things to do and completely forget about them, until people started complimenting me on them! After the first week, I made up my mind and decided I love them too. And they looked great with jeans, white shirts and ballet flats. All in all, they were perfect for the occasion!
