HOW TO GET YOUR MAN ON A SKIN CARE ROUTINE!💞
Me being the skin care junkie that I am, my boyfriend is forced to listen to me rant about products, sales, ingredients, & my good (and bad) skin days. Eventually, I dragged him into liking it to! (kind of). I've peaked his interest...and now he understands the concept & importance of skin health. Eventually he started a routine, & now enjoys it! He has resilient, combo skin with an occasional blemish, but overall his skin is pretty good! He just needs the basics, no crazy treatments or harsh products. Just a cleanser, SPF, and moisturizer. He's been using the CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser
Don't over-complicate it! 🗯Simple is best. You don't want to overwhelm him, or make it seem long & time-consuming.
Don't choose products with girly packaging! 💟If he's into it, then go for it! But most of the time those girly, shiny products with cute names don't sound appealing to them. Especially just getting into it.
He needs to realize it's about skin health!🏥Let him know its just a way of taking care of yourself. And that makeup and skincare are different things! Because my boyfriend would mix them up all the time. I honestly don't think he knew the difference...which made him more hesitant.
Do it together!👥If you guys live together, start dedicating time in the bathroom before you go to bed to just unwind. Have him try your products, or do a skin care routine together! Make it enjoyable and a memorable experience, so it sets a positive impression.
Consistently show him products and explain what they do! 🧴🧼What peaked my boyfriends interest was me talking to him about products all the time, & what they fix! I would catch him complaining about his skin over a pimple or redness, and I would tell him about an ingredient or product that would help that issue. It intrigued him!
Consider fragrance free, light-weight products that fit his skin type! ✅The biggest complaint I hear from guys and skin care is that it feels greasy, heavy, or sticky. The purfumey smell is a big one too. So avoid those things. And make sure to talk to him about his skin type & properly match what products would be best for him!
Make sure he STAYS on the routine. Remind him about it, & don't forget to compliment his skin! 💞I still try to remind my boyfriend, but at this point he always remembers. Also, COMPLIMENT his skin!! If he's starting a routine, he wants to know you see results. He wants to look good in your eyes!

winter moisture boost!
I only started my skincare journey in January of this year, so I've been adjusting to the seasons as I go. I've noticed as we transition into colder weather that my skin feels moisturized to the touch, but my face feels simultaneously too oily and too dry/tight. Here's my spring/summer a.m. skincare routine for reference: COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser L'ORÉAL - Revitalift Derm Intensives Vitamin C Serum The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 I knew I didnt want to add another moisturizer under my already thick moisturizer SPF (my skin hates weighty moisture), so I bought the COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence . It adds a good dose of moisture, while being light-weight enough for my oily combination skin. Within a couple days, my skin stopped feeling parched! I would absolutely recommend for combo to oily skinned peeps!! Such a good winter supplement to my daily regime!
Damaged Skin Barrier + Closed comedones breakout
I could NOT stop breaking out nothing was working for my skin To give you some background info I’ve only very recently had problems with my skin. I’ve never had issues with acne and it all started with oil cleansing. I didn’t know I had sensitive skin until I began oil cleansing. That was only the beginning of the out of control spiral my skin routine had. I tried finding a solution everywhere and tried a ton of different products. Including curology too and that’s when it got worse! In the midst of trying to find a solution I ended up damaging my skin barrier like crazy. I have never broken out like that. My skin consistently felt tight. I thought I had a hormonal issue or that my skin was acne prone. In reality my skin just did better with low maintenance I didn’t need to add crazy products or actives. I started incorporating Manuka honey a natrual ingredient that has a lot of skin benefits. healthline.com/health/manuka-honey-for-acne Before: CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin Gentle but wayy to drying for my face. I don’t recommend it to anyone who has dry skin. Or suffering from a damaged moisture barrier. Curology - Curology formula I was not a fan of this because it broke out my skin more but it honestly was probably due to the condition of my skin. Azelaic Acid 4% Clindamycin 1% Zinc Pyrithione 0.25% CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream This was a good cream except I felt like I was getting open comedones but again could have been due to my skin being at a poor state. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • After finding out I had a damaged moisture barrier (NOW) Pm: 🌙 LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser THIS!!!! Ladies and Gentlemen. Oh. My. Gosh. This has been by far the best product I’ve used to wash my face. It doesn’t make me skin feel right and it washes right off. It doesn’t make my skin feel like I still have product and I love it. It has a lot of nice ingredients too and super gentle! #Kiva Health Food - Kiva Raw Manuka Honey[products]#[FiveStars] I leave this on all night and it has worked AMAZING! This helped balance my skins ph is getting rid of acne scars and fight the extremely stubborn acne! (What got rid of the issue) Am: 🌞 All I do is rinse my face and add moisturizer and my essence that’s it I don’t do anything else! COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence This is a great essence to lock in moisture while fighting gently acne and lightning those pesky dark spots! CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 I didn’t love this before but it was because my face was SO DRY! But now it’s great and it’s oil free! Highly recommend if you want a moisturizer with SPF. This helped dark spots too (hyperpigmentation) so they wouldn’t get darker and lighten them up.
SKINCARE: NIGHT ROUTINE BASICS!
Finally part two of my skin care basics! A lot of the steps are the same but I do have different products in those places. Let's get into it.... 1) MAKEUP REMOVER: this step is essential after a long day, look at this like double cleansing so they scheduled the service layer off before your cleanser goes in to get a deeper clean. my product: CLINIQUE - Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm 2) CLEANSER: cleansing helps to get rid of dead skin, pollutants, oils, dirt, and bacteria in general but many dermatologists & estheticians recommend that you should wash your face first thing in the morning so that you can prepare your skin for any other products that go on top of it. my product: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser 3) EYE CREAM: the eye area is a super fragile, sensitive part of the face so your best bet is to apply your eye cream right away. to allow for maximum moisturization, apply first and pat around the area GENTLY! also in the AM, eye cream can help tighten and depuff the eyes. my product: BURT’S BEES - Sensitive Eye Cream 4) TONER/ESSENCE/MIST: this step can help to prime your skin to absorb active ingredients, do you research on whether you should be using a toner or an essence. shameless plug, one of my first posts is about the difference between toners and tonics, check that out for help. my products: pixi - Collagen Tonic pixi - Hydrating Milky Mist 5) SERUM(S): this stuff delivers the bulk of active ingredients to your freshly primed face! if you apply serums over thicker formulas (moisturizers, etc.) they may not penetrate as well. serums DIFFER from day to night. be sure to choose ingredients that are SAFE for the time of day you're using them. (i.e. retinol should be used AT night, vitamin c during the day) my product: PACIfICA - Dream Shot Beauty Sleep Booster Serum 6) RETINOL: as stated above right now is best used at night! i use a retinol alternative. check out my dedicated post on bakuchiol vs. retinol! my product: ACURE - Radically Rejuvenating Dual Phase Bakuchiol Serum 7) MOISTURIZER: think of this as a way to seal in everything you just did! look for hyaluronic acid & other ingredients that lock in moisture. my products: CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream CLARISMA - Cali Dreaming Cream Daily Moisturizer 8) SPOT TREATMENT: only if necessary, you should be applying spot treatment on active breakouts both morning & night to accelerate the healing process. my product: JĀSON - JĀSON Tea Tree Oil 9) FACE OIL: i have a special post also on what face oils can do for oily skin! they help trap moisture in your skin & as a protective barrier. think of it like skin care topcoat. my product: ACURE - Seriously Soothing Blue Tansy Night Oil Thanks for reading! ❤️
One Week Using Differin
Experience: I started using Differin about a week ago to deal with my maskne and dark spots. Ever since I started wearing masks more frequently, my skin has essentially freaked out. It’s super sensitive and dry, especially around my mouth, but I get cystic-like acne along the area where my mask touches my face. I decided that I was going to try Differin as my last resort before going to the dermatologist (cause I’m still nervous about going to doctor’s offices, unless absolutely necessary because of covid). The instructions recommend daily use; however, I began my first week by using it every other day since I’ve had negative experiences/reactions with other active ingredients before. Since then, I’ve begun using it every night. I use this in the evening after cleansing and applying moisturizer and Aquaphor’s healing ointment. Pros: I definitely already see a visible improvement in my skin, especially with the hyperpigmentation that I’ve dealt with. I do use other products that help with brightening, but I’ve been using those products for quite a while and haven’t seen such a drastic improvement until now. Cons: I experienced a few small breakouts around my chin, but they went away pretty quickly. I have yet to experience any significant purging/dryness, but I also didn’t jump immediately to daily use. Other Products I Use + Frequency: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser(everyday to remove sunscreen, PM) The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA(every other day, alternate between this and the next product/AM) The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%(every other day, alternate between this and the previous product/AM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30(everyday, AM) Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant(everyday, use as a lip balm and to protect sensitive areas of my skin when applying Differin)
Help!!!!! Problems with Cerave SA Cleanser
Hii! I’ve been using the CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skinfor about a month now. I use it every other day at night before I go to bed. I’ve been realizing this cleanser gives me under the skin pimples, but has made my skin more even and has minimized my pores greatly. It has also got rid of most of the texture of small colorless bumps on my forehead and chin. I already had/have acne so I figured this was just the purging period, but I’ve been using this product for a month and want to stop waking up with a new pimple every time I use it ): The pimples that appear are usually in the same spots, and sometimes even an old pimple will resurface. Please help explain to me why this is happening and if I should discontinue use! *** The rest of my routine includes: CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin every morning and nights i dont use the sa cleaner CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotionmorning and night ——————- I cannot use many fragrances or chemicals as it damages my skin more than anything, thats why my skincare routine is so short and limited.
Transitioning Into My Winter Skin Care! ❄
So technically, I never even transitioned into my "Fall skincare" this year. Where I live, the fall months don't usually get that cold. For the most part, i've been using the same products I was using in the Summer. And that was a mistake! For the past few weeks it's been really dry outside, and eventually resulted in a disruption of my moisture barrier. My cheeks, and especially the area around my eyes felt super tight, and even got cracked and flakey. Lets Talk Cleansers! I LOVE the CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser . It will always be a holy grail for me, 365 days a year. This restores and hydrates my skin, and my go-to morning cleanse. I believe in cleansing twice a day, but the morning cleanse should be with a simple, gentle cleanser. Cleansing can be really harsh for the skin, and using a foaming or treatment cleanser twice a day can stir up trouble! Another good one is the PAULA'S CHOICE - Defense Hydrating Gel-to-Cream Cleanser . This one works better as a second cleanse, to help remove makeup. It foams up, and claims to remove makeup. In my opinion, it doesn't work that well without an oil cleanse or micellar water beforehand. This cleanser isn't AS hydrating but still really good and makes my skin soft. Unlike CeraVe, this one this one has a triple-superfood complex, and antioxidants! Lately, I've been oil cleansing, then going in with the Paulas Choice cleanser, & then the CeraVe one, as my night time routine. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize! Even if you have oily skin, moisturize! My go-to moisturizers are the CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion as well as the VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream . Both of these products I LOVE. They are perfect for acne-prone skin, & at a decent price point. But now... I'm going to start incorporating a more hydrating, heavier moisturizer, like the CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream . I'm very picky about heavy moisturizers because my pores are easily clogged. CeraVe is always a reliable brand I can count on to have simple, non-irritating products that get the job done. (And DOESNT clog pores.) Another good one is the PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum . This one is technically a serum but works like a moistuizer. It's very light but super hydrating & moisturizing! It has robust levels of Omega 3, 6 and 9 for calm, stronger & healthier skin. It also has ceramides, Hyaluronic Acid & Shea Butter. Surprisingly, the Shea butter in this does not clog my pores. Hyaluronic Acid! I don't own a sole Hyaluronic Acid serum, but I use the The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA . This is really good at hydrating and plumping my skin. And it calms & depuffs any inflammation I may have. I like that it's paired with Alpha Arbutin so this serum also fades dark spots & brightens my skin. Plus, these two ingredients can be paried with almost any other active, so it's easy to include this serum in a any routine.
Dermatologist recommended acne regimen
Since I hit puberty I have suffered from acne. After years of seeing dermatologists and trying countless prescription and over the counter treatments and products I have settled on the current regimen which keeps my skin 90-95% clear most of the time. Morning Routine Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser this cleanser has been recommended by the majority of the dermatologists I have seen over the years. It works well, cleaning without over-drying skin. Neutrogena - On-the-Spot Acne Treatment this has a lower percentage of benzoyl peroxide than most other gels and creams which is recommended if you are using other stronger acne treatments in your regimen. Over treating can irritate the skin and end up causing or worsening breakouts. Cetaphil - Facial Hydrating Lotion I love this lotion. It feels lightweight but works really well. It is noncomedogenic and contains hyluronic acid. Aquaphor - Lip Repair, Stick, Immediate Relief, Fragrance Free, 1 Stick my lips split on the sides from dryness sometimes and aquaphor has always been my go to lip treatment. I apply it in the morning and evening to keep my lips smooth and prevent splitting. Evening Routine Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel this gel works almost as well as the prescription cream I used to use when I was younger. I wish it was less expensive but it’s worth the cost to have clear skin.

Start of Tretinoin and Spirinolactone journey
Today is my first day going on Spirinolactone (pills for hormonal acne that I will be taking 1x a day) and Tretinoin. I purchased both treatments from Apostrophe, so I have been prescribed them from a dermatologist. My Apostrophe cream formula is 0.025% Tretinoin and 4% Niacinimide. Backstory: I have been a skincare fanatic for about 4 years (my friends can vouch for this), always taking measures to maintain a healthy skin routine. I have had clear skin for my entire life until recently. I recently started breaking out in January and no product was working. So at this point, I have rightfully assumed I have hormonal acne at 19. I’m completely simplifying my routine to only include a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, the tret cream, and a sunscreen. My routine will be as follows: AM Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 (looking for a stronger SPF at this point, so will switch sunscreens when this bottle runs out) PM Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin Apostrophe formula (using this after moisturizer so I can have a buffer between the tret and my skin) I have normal skin and will be adding more products gradually with extreme caution as time goes on, and my skin adjusts. I’m not sure the extent to which tret will dry my skin out either, so I will be looking out for that as time goes on. Since my skin isn’t sensitive, my plan is is to start using the Apostrophe formula 3x week for 2 weeks, and then every other day for another 2 weeks, and then start using it every day. Open to critique and suggestions about this since my derm says to start out using it every other day for 2-4 weeks, and then to switch to every day use. Anyhoo, I want this to be a sort of journal on how my skincare journey is going. I want to do weekly updates about my experiences with tret and spirinolactone, as well as show how my routine adjusts through this period. Sending many hugs to whoever reads this <3
CeraVe-Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin
current skincare favs and ditch list!
all of the products above are all skincare products that i have accumulated over a few months! FAVORITES CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin i reviewed this one in my last post, saying i wasn’t seeing any results. although i still have acne, my fave always feels cleaner and purer after using this cleanser. CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion these moisturizers are so good! they do such a good job with my dry, peeling skin, and as soon as i put them on, i see immediate results. STRIDEX - Daily Care Acne Pads with Salicylic Acid, Sensitive with Aloe (i have the off brand version since they didn’t have on brand in the store) these acne pads are fairly good and they do burn, but it makes me feel likes it’s working i guess! i do think it helps with my acne but it drys out my skin so much!!! i have to moisturize a lot because of this. i don’t know if i should ditch it yet.. HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original and Invisible+ Bundle i don’t have a lot of whiteheads so finding places to put these where they’ll actually work is a guessing game. sometimes they’ll do a great job and sometimes nothing will happen at all. it’s not he patch though- it’s my skin haha! i actually love these though! DITCH LIST Clean&Clear - Morning Burst Oil-Free Gentle Daily Face Wash although i can’t say i’ve used this consistently since i bought the small travel bottle just to try it- every time i use it my face just feels sticky? just super dry and sticky. Clean&Clear - Share NIGHT RELAXIN Deep Cleaning Face Wash not even gonna lie this worked kind of well for me and i could feel the cooling after i used it. i don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing but it was actually really refreshing to use. the only reason this is on my ditch list is because i’m biased from hyram and started using cerave lol. Clearasil - Rapid Rescue Spot Treatment Cream ok this actually sucks. i don’t see any results at all and it just drys up so quickly and PEELS. i have to use a damp cloth to scrub it off my face because it just layers and peels all over the place. please comment any advice or anything you would like to share! thank u, hope it helped!

Is this purging?
My skin started getting bad when quarantine started, so I started adding skincare products. My skin is just getting worse and worse so now I’m not sure if I’m just breaking out worse because of the products or if I’m just purging. I’m currently using Bioré - Blue Agave & Baking Soda Pore Balancing Cleanser The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution PACIfICA - Dry It Out Acne Gel Spot Treatment Cetaphil - Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion

Got new products to help with my acne
I got 2 new products today to test out to see if it’s going to suit my skin. I got an acne treatment kit from La Roche Posay. It says its safe to use both AM & PM but after speaking to a medical esthetician, she recommended I only use this during AM since I’m using retinol & niacinamide at PM and it might dry out my skin since I’m using a lot of the same ingredients. I finally switched out my No. 7 cleansing oil for the holy grail of cleansing oil/balm.. CLINIQUE - Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm I am so excited to try this because its fragrance free which is probably the best thing for my skin right now. Today is day 1 of using both these products and i’ll do an update in 1 week to see whether these products have made any noticeable changes. My night time routine is washing with Cetaphil cleanser followed by Niacinamide & retinol & rosehip oil instead of a moisturizer. Its really outside my comfort zone to post photos of myself with my acne cause I’m insecure about it but hopefully someone can give me tips about how to fix this!

Update Hormonal Acne: 1 Week After Product Swap
Hey All! So after a week of using products recommended to me from you all, I wanted to give an update. My skin has improved slightly, but I’m here for the small victories! I switched my cleanser from the CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin to the CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin and I think this has made a huge improvement to the hydration levels of my skin. I have naturally very dry and sensitive skin, so I think the foaming cleanser did a bit too much on it. I’ve also started using DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel again! Love this product as a spot treatment. It has worked wonders for my more inflamed breakouts. Lastly, I’ve taken out the following products: clarisonic - MIA 2 FACIAL CLEANSING BRUSH (LOL ya’ll I know, but I’ve been using it for YEARS and I just couldn’t put it down) PACIfICA - Cosmic Renew AHA & Hemp Resurfacing Tonic (This was just too drying with my prescription tret cream) Looking forward to continue updating xx
