5 REASONS WHY YOU NEED TOPCOAT
A good top coat is more than just clear nail polish! Tell me this—do you find your manicure always chips faster than you want it to? (I know, this makes gel manicures really tempting, but hear me out). 1) It makes your manicure last longer Nail polish top coat adds a glossy seal over the polish you’ve just put on, ensuring it doesn’t chip away as easily. 2) It helps your nails dry faster I don’t even consider a top coat these days if quick dry isn’t mentioned anywhere on the label. To put it simply, quick dry top coats work by literally solidifying faster, making bumps and nicks harder to make in the nail polish itself. 3) It can make your manicure look like gel Top coats add a more glossy finish and high shine to perfect nails, giving them the illusion of a thicker layer of polish that looks like gel. 4) It smooths any over application mistakes If you accidentally nick or smudge your nails, here’s no reason to stress—your perfect nails aren’t ruined! This is where the top coat comes in. It’ll smooth over and fill any tiny little nicks and bumps just enough so that they’re not noticeable, saving you from doing over your nails. 5) It makes your at-home nail art look pro It adds that finishing touch and makes everything look 100% better. Which top coat is best? A lot of people think that their nail polish chips because they’re using a cheap brand. The thing is, it doesn’t matter what brand of nail polish you use—if you’re using a good quality top coat and base coat, you can make ANY nail polish last (and look good!) for perfect nails. HOW TO: DRY BRUSH NAIL ART
Today I have some nail art which I've tried for the first time. Basically, it's a technique where you remove as much polish as possible from the brush and dab it over a base colour - easy peasy. Today, I've done this using 4 polishes: Sally Hansen Red Snapper, Sally Hansen Good to Grape, Sally Hansen Shell We Dance, and Essence Off to Miami. Here's how to get this nail art look: Apply your base colour. I think this looks the best with a light base colour and darker/standout shades over the top. Let this dry a bit so you don't scuff the polish. Decide which color you want to use next. Wipe the brush of the polish until there's hardly anything on the brush, then dab your nails in random spots to create the dry brush strokes. You can do this with as many colours as you want, but I think that more than four is too messy. I started by applying 3 coats Shell We DanceSally Hansen - Miracle Gel , a stunning sheer pink. Something I noticed about the Sally Hansen polishes is that the brushes are very wide - the width of the plastic stem is basically the diameter of the opening to the polish bottle. The wide, flattened brush makes application so easy though - perfect for getting close to the cuticle without making a mess. After SWD dried, I applied Off to Miami (coral), Good to Grape (purple) and Red Snapper (um, red) in that order. After finishing, I sealed my mani with a coat of Sally Hansen's Big ShinySally Hansen - Big Shiny Top Coat top coat. I haven't used any mainstream top coats for a while, so I was frankly really impressed with this one. I tend not to have high expectations for top coats from mainstream brands, so it's nice to be proved wrong for once. Its very shiny and glossy. The only drawback is the shiny, metallic bottle - it looks super cool but it will be hard to gauge how much top coat is left in the bottle after continued use. Also, because I can't leave things alone... I mattified this mani too. I used the other sibling in the top coat pair - Big Matte.Sally Hansen - Miracle Gel Nail Polish Matte Top Coat is similar. I haven't done a direct comparison yet, I'm pretty sure this is comparable to the Essie Matte About You top coat in terms of being a true matte. Love the different dimension it added to my mani - it totally reminds me of tie-dye. A tip for matte manicures - apply your regular top coat first and wait for that to dry before applying your matte top coat. I find that manis last longer doing this, rather than going straight for the mattifying one. Think of it as a special effects top coat, rather than a sealing + drying one. I hope you like this as much as I do - I'm so so proud of my first dry brush mani, and I'll definitely be using this technique with other colour schemes. I'm also very impressed with the two Sally Hansen top coats I used!
COOL TONED NAILS (PERFECT FOR SCORPIOS)
Here’s the thing as a Scorpio - everyone expects us to like black or super dark nails because we’re ~mysterious~ and spooky. Most Scorpios (including myself) also have a soft side and I like using my nail polish to express this. We’re also a little cold and standoffish, so I’ll go with a cool, but soft shade today - OPI Icelanded a Bottle of OPI It’s a cool-toned taupe-grey - it’s not a cute, sweet pink that might suit another star sign better. As always, I put on a coat of Duri Rejuvacote before two coats of polish, then Essie Gel Setter. This combination hasn’t let me down yet! Icelanded a Bottle of OPI is perfectly flawless in two coats and I’ve gotten up to two weeks of wear (especially with base and top coat) out of it. I like it better than gel since I can actually take it off whenever I want and just put it back on again (if I want!) I’m a practical Scorpio (I’ve outgrown having long nails) so I’ve painted my natural nails. I like to keep them at a natural, rounded shape. Just in case I have to help my friend bury a body or something… Just kidding! ;) duri - Rejuvacote 1 Nail Growth System OPI - Long Lasting Nail Polish Infinite Shine 2 essie - Gel Setter Top Coat
MY FULL MANICURE KIT
Here’s my full manicure kit that I rely on whenever I do my nails and how I use them! I’m not a pro, but I have found a really good routine and method that works for me, so I hope this helps you! I've listed everything except nail polish. ✔️ Glass Nail File Glass nail files are so much better for nails than emery boards. They’re fine grain, but very effective for safely and quickly shaping nails. I can’t live without one! ✔️ Buffer This helps to smooth out any ridges in nails and lift any nail polish staining. However, don’t buff your nails too much otherwise you could thin them out and damage them. ✔️ Cuticle Oil Conditions nails and cuticles. So handy for strengthening nails and keeping cuticles from getting ragged. ✔️ Base Coat Helps nail polish last longer and strengthens nails. This one is non-negotiable! ✔️ Top Coat Helps nail polish last longer, dry quickly, and look shiny and professional. Another non-negotiable part of a manicure kit. ✔️ Cuticle Tools Perfect for gently pushing back cuticles, as well as wiping up any wet nail polish if application has been messy. ✔️Toe Separators Makes it super easy to paint the perfect pedicure! No more smudged toenails!

My favorite at home “gel” manicure!
I’ve gotten so much better at painting my nails after not going into a salon in months, and this combo of products allows my manicure to last a full 2 weeks. I haven’t ventured into gel polishes that require a UV lamp, but the OPI Infinite Shine formula is the same quality. OPI - Infinite Shine Prostay Primer I had never used a nail primer, or even really a base coat, before trying this one, but I definitely feel like it helps the polish stick to the nail better. I’ve tried the infinite shine polish without the primer and my nails chipped much faster. OPI - Long Lasting Nail Polish Infinite Shine 2 this is the shade “engagement to be” which is described as a pale lilac, but appears more grayish purple in person. It’s a beautiful neutral shade and very glossy. The wide brush helps with easy application, and the formula is thick enough to not run, but still allow for buildable coverage through multiple coats. With this particular shade I use 3 coats, but most of the collection only requires 2 coats Seche - Vite Dry Fast Clear Top Coat Super quick drying but also super chip resistant! Makes my nails super glossy but isn’t thick or gummy at all. My nails dry significantly faster with this top coat than any other I’ve ever tried #cheriepartner
3 Most Common Nail Mistakes You’ll Want To Avoid &How To Fix Them!
Since the pandemic started, I’ve had to do my own nails more often. My go-to nail salon has been closed for months. DIY manicures can be a little annoying if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’m telling you my mistakes so you can learn from what I did wrong. My Top 3 Nail Mistakes: 1. Only using one coat of polish I’m the first to admit it, I can be pretty lazy, but one coat of nail polish just doesn’t cut it. I know doing two coats takes more effort and adds to the drying time, but it’s so worth it in the end. 2. Not focusing enough on nail care Nail care is a game-changer! You need to buff, file, and cut your nails before applying polish to get the best results. Buffing really helps smooth out any ridges or inconsistencies on the nail bed. 3. Using a bad top & base coat Do you know that glossy top coat you get from at salons that makes your nails look super shiny and perfect? I didn’t use to care about which base or topcoat I used. I would just use the cheapest one available at the drug store. What a mistake! My Must-Try Nail Products: ● Seche Vite Base & Top Coat - The Sechevete base and top coats give you that salon-worthy shine you want from a DIY mani. Plus, it helps dry the nails super fast so you can get on with your day! ● Nail Buff - This thing was only $1, and it’s helped transform the way I give myself manicures! ● A glass nail file - Did you know glass nail filers are supposed to be healthier for your natural nails? The Final Look I did this fun look for the 4th of July! I filed and buffed my nails with the white buffer and topped them with two coats of my favorite nail polishes by Essie!
Classic French Manicure
You can never go wrong with a classic French manicure! I've always loved getting French manicures because it reminded me of going to the nail salon with my mom and watching her get it done when I was younger, now I'm doing it myself! It's super simple and actually really easy! All it takes is some practice and you'll have a perfect French in no time! One tip I have right off the bat is that doing a gel French is much easier than using regular polish! This is because the ability to cure each layer means that cleaning up the French line is much easier! 1. Apply a base coat! This will keep your polish on and smooth out your base. I use THE gel BOTTLE - White Biab Builder in a Bottle as my base, in the shade Clear. 2. Apply you favorite sheer nude. I use a combination of OPI - OPI Gel Nail Polish in the shades Bubble Bath and Put It In Neutral. This is my perfect nude! If you want more pink, stick with only Bubble Bath. If you want more of a nude then use Put It In Neutral only! Cure between each layer, I only do two layers total. 3. Apply a thin base layer of white to your tips. Using a flat, round brush dipped into acetone or alcohol to clean up the line! Cure. 4. Go over your white with one more layer, being sure to get full coverage! Cure. 5. Apply your favorite top coat, cure and enjoy your classic French Mani! #CheriePartner

Nutty for Nudes
💅🏻 So I love nude nail polishes and I love the Lights Laquer formula and when this collection came out I knew I was going to buy it. Also I accidentally spilled one of them which is what led to this shot because I was in a picture taking trance and just started spilling all of them for the sake of the shot and now I am very very sad about pouring out half of my nail polish. 💅🏻 I bought the first Lights Laquer and I was absolutely in love. The formula is very opaque and on the thicker side. The brush is very user friendly and coats my nails in (almost) one swipe. And the formula is actually pretty long wearing which for me is saying a lot as most of my at home manicures start chipping in minutes. 💅🏻 The YNBB (Your Nails But Better) Collection features five nudes ranging in depths and undertones. From left to right: Mila: Ivory with cool undertones Matilda: Spft beige with yellow undertones Lyla: Neutral tan with pink undertones Emma: Warm tan with orange undertones Alyanna: Deep cool toned chocolate brown Olivia: Rich espresso brown with red undertones 💅🏻 I honestly couldn’t pick which is why I bought all of them but my favorites are probably Matilda and Emma. If you’re in the market for some neutral nail polishes I strongly recommend checking these out. The colors are beautiful and the formula is fantastic.

Favorite/Go-To Nail Polish! 💅🏽
When I get my nails done, I can take forever to decide what color I want to get. However, when in doubt, I always end up going back to my neutrals because they never disappoint. 👏🏽 One of my very favorite colors is the OPI - OPI Nail Lacquer in “This Cost Me A Mint” - it’s perfect color for any occasion! It has a green tint to it but can look like a cement-ish color on certain angles. It’s a cool tone shade and can honestly be used in summer, spring, fall & winter. ✨ This color also goes on smoothly and I rarely or never have issues with it streaking of being too clumpy. If I’m getting my nails done professionally, I just bring the color with me and hav the technicians use it. However, if painting my own nails (which I’m sure we all have been doing since being in quarantine) I also like to use the OPI - Rapidry Top Coat so that I don’t have to wait forever for my nails to dry. Also included is a pic of my quarantine manicure that I did! 🌟 I was very proud of this nail job btw 😆 Tell me... what’s your favorite nail color? #CheriePartner 💛

All About The Cuticles BABY 💅🏽 Go-To Product!
CUTICLES! Everyone has them, and NOT everyone takes care of them! Recently I got a beauty basket as a birthday gift and included inside was this cuticle oil. I’m being real honest and saying i’ve never been into “nail health” they get taken care of when i go to the salon every two weeks and then whatever for the rest. My nails have been a main focus for me, i’ve had to be the one to up keep the maintenance on my fingers so i’ve been able to pay attention and see what they need to make sure they look clean and healthy. I got my nails done professionally the other day for my birthday and i seen my cuticles just look so dry and so not cute, luckily i got the BLOSSOM - Cuticle Oil- Spring Bouquet in my birthday basket and it had been SAVING my cuticles and IT SMELLS GOODT! I use it every couple days and i have been seeing a difference! i’m interested in trying other scents from this brand as well. Are you guys into cuticle care and nail care? Once upon a starry night 🌌
I am really into stars and ILNP BOUTIQUE COSMETICS - Holographic Nail Polish is like having a stars on your nails. ILNP (I Love Nail Polish) describes it as a “captivatingly deep midnight blue nail polish that’s sure to remind you of a night sky filled with dazzling stars.” Looking Up was a part of the 2016 Winter Collections. It is also fully opaque in 2-3 coats. It has a gorgeous glossy finish. When doing these nails, I did these steps: 1. Base coat: I used Pink Amour 2. Looking Up 3. Quick dry top coat: Sally Hansen - Big Kwik Dry Top Coat Pro tip: If you want to save polish, then paint a layer of black polish so Looking Up has a nice foundation to build upon. Price: $10 on ILNP; same on Amazon with added shipping fee. #CheriePartner

$4! My thought on the nail masks is...
Any girl who wears nail polish for a lengthy time—without letting her nails breathe between manis—will know that nails are weakened, splitting, peeling nails. I try my best to prevent it with a regular regimen of hand lotion and cuticle oil, but even that might not be enough. That's where a product like KOCOSTAR - Nail Therapycomes in. How to use: Apply it to parched nails in the form of individual finger mitts, leaving it on for 30-60 minutes. The mitts are sized from large to small for thumb to pinky, respectively, so don't mix them up and try to jam your thumb into the pinky-sized one Ingredients: A mixture of botanicals, vitamins, ceramide, milk protein, shea butter, and aloe vera (among other ingredients) promises to moisturize and strengthen nails. Result: I removed the mitts and massaged in any extra serum. My nails were noticeably healthier-looking and the dry-ish white striations were gone. But, I'd like to make it clear that Kocostar Nail Therapy is NO substitute for hand lotion and cuticle oil. It won't reverse splitting and peeling that's already happening. But it is a nice supplementary treatment at a very wallet-friendly price, and I think it'd definitely yield benefits over time.

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
